Scan rate and samples for FFT affecting dt

Hi,
I currently acquire data from an accelerometer and set the scan rate of the clock to 5120 S/s. I then use the Analog 1d Wfm Nchan N Samp to acquire 5120 samples and then use FFT analysis on it to create a frequency chart. This gives me a dt of 1 i.e. a resolution of 1Hz.
The question i have is how can i sample the data with a dt of 1 at a faster rate.
For example i change the scan rate to 10240 and still aquire the samples at 5120, this allows me to sample twice a second but gives me a dt of 2 (2 hz resolution) when i do my FFT analysis. All that happens by upping the scan rate for the sample clock is that i can now detect peaks at higher frequencies.
By this i mean if i just scan at 5120 S/s using my card , when i do the FFT it goes upto 1100Hz approx , if i double the scan rate, it then doubles this to 2200Hz approx, but then reduces the resolution
How can I improve the update speed and still keep a DT of 1?
Thanks
Mike

Hi,
Unfortunately i dont think i am quite making clear what i mean
Apologies so I'll try again.....
If I aquire the data at 5600S/s and my number of samples is also 5600. When i do the FFT peak spectrol measurements my df would then be equal to 1. By this as i understand it, it means i have a resolution of 1Hz on my FFT graph/data.
This is all fine, but if i want to update the graph or indeed save the data to disk at say 5Hz how do i do this and still keep the resolution of the FFT at 1Hz??.
If i change the S/s for the clock, all this does is increase the frequency range it does its aquiring over in the FFT. i.e. if its 5600 S/s my FFT goes upto 2550Hz on its X axis. If i up it to 10200 S/s my FFT goes upto 5100Hz on its X-Axis.
Therefore if i keep the same samples in my aquiring waveform i would get it to run at twice a second if my sampling rate was 10200 and my samples were 5100, BUT my resolution would go down to 2 on the FFT chart.
How can i sample at a faster rate at the frequencies i want yet still keep the reolution to 1 on the FFT?, i almost want to set the sampling rate per 10th of a second i suppose to enable me to update at a faster rate but this isn't possible - is it?
  Many thanks

  • "current encoder settings for bit rate and sample rate are invalid" message

I have some files I am working with. Details and what happened:
Had some music files where I was doing some trimming/splitting. Files worked fine in itunes.
Open the files in Quicktime Pro 7 to trim them. Exported to aif.
Opened the files with itunes. They open and play just fine.
In Itunes I click"create AAC version" to convert them.
I receive the message "An error occurred while trying to import the file. The current encoder settings for bit rate and sample rate are not valid for this file."
I don't know what to do from here. Suggestions?
    Thanks.

Make sure that the AIFFs that you export are set for 16 bit PCM.
Also, assuming that you are using 44.1 kHZ sampling in your AIFFs, make sure that you are not trying to use 48 kHz in the AAC.

What is the sample rate and codec for iTunes Radio? Is it lossless encoded?

I have to agree with you.  There are several forum discussions on bit rate being as high as 256 kbps but I don't see how it could be more than 96 kbps based on the poor sound quality I'm hearing.  I'm comparing it to an internet radio station that is 128 kbps and sounds much better.
    Am I missing something?

Tony, Make sure you are in Songs view.  Then View > Show View Options, and check the boxes for "Bit Rate" and "Sample Rate."  See picture:

  • Conflict between the saved data and the sampling rate and samples to read using PXI 6070e

Hello, I am using PXI 6070e to read an analog voltage. I was sampling at 6.6 MHz and the samples to read were 10. So, that means it should sample 10 points every 1.5 um. The x-axis of the graph on the control panel was showing ns and us scale, which I think because of the fast sampling and acquiring data. I use "write to measurement file" block to save the data. However, the data was saved every 0.4 second and as 35 points data at the beginning of each cycle (e.g. 35 points at 0.4 sec and 35 at 0.8 sec, and so on) and there was no data in between. Can anyone help me how there are 35 reading points every cycle? I could not find the relation between the sampling rate and samples to read, to 35 points every 0.4 second!
Another thing, do I need to add a filter after acquiring the data (after the DAQ assistant block)? Is there anti-aliasing filter is built in PXI 6070e?
Thanks for the help in advance,
    Alaeddin

I'm not seeing anything that points to this issue.  Your DAQ is set to continuous acquire.  I'm not sure if this is really what you want because your DAQ buffer will keep overwriting.  You probably just want to set to Read N Samples.
I'm not a fan of using the express VIs.  And since you are writing to a TDMS file, I would use the Stream to TDMS option in DAQmx.  If you use the LabVIEW Example Finder, search for "TDMS Log" for a list of some good examples.

  • The selected combination of bit rate and sample rate is not allowed.

I've always burned my purchased CDs into iTunes using a AAC 320 kbps and 48.000kHz. Now when I select that option in iTunes 9 I'm getting a "The selected combination of bit rate and sample rate is not allowed." pop up screen. So is it impossible to burn my albums in a 320kbps/48.000 AAC format?. I had no problems in previous versions of iTunes using this setting. I guess I might have to switch over using a MP3 import setting instead.

Audio CDs are encoded with a sample rate of 44.1 kHz. Ripping them at 48 kHz requires resampling and does not improve the quality. Unless you have a special need for 48, use 44.1.

  • How to set the Codec, Frame rate, Bit rate, and Resolution for iMovie 10.0.5

To upload a video to Vimeo, I need to be able to set the codec, frame rate, bit rate and resolution to make sure the file is compressed to under 500 MB. Where in iMovie 10.0.5 am I given the option to adjust these settings?
    Thank you!

Another question is in continuous mode, NI DAQmx uses Samples per channel to determine the buffer size. But according to the website you specified, it says if the acquisition is continuous (sample mode on the DAQmx Timing.vi is set to Continuous Samples), NI-DAQmx will allocate a buffer according to the following table. And for sample rate between 100 - 10,000 S/s, the buffer size is 10 kS. So if I set the sample rate to be 5000 S/s, and set the Samples per channel to be 20000, then what exactly the buffer size is? 20 kS or 10 kS?
    Thanks.

  • NI 6110 Example 2 doesn't provide scan interval and samples like it should

    Hello,
I'm developing software for NI 6110 with DDK and QNX Momentics 6.4.1.
I tried Example 2 (aiex2.cpp) but it didn't stop the Acquisition after 5 Scans, and the Sample Interval
    isn't 1 ms (Fifo filled after 1us -> Fifo Size is 8192).
Does the example code work like it should? Has it already been tested?
I got this card as a loan to test it for our requirements.
Therefore I hope to get response soon before I  have to return it.
    Thank you,
    Best Regards,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,
So I've instrumented aiex2.cpp to get a closer look at what's happening in the example. I've attached the patch so you're welcome to apply it and modify it for QNX system calls if you want to try the same. Apply the patch with
    patch -Np1 ./aiex2.cpp ./add-time-measurements.patch
Anyway, I've been able to confirm that the timing engine on the STC is not correctly driving the 6110's ADCs. The operation indeed finishes too quickly: see the output from the modfied example below. At this point, there are a two things we can do: continue troubleshooting this example to get it working and move forward from there, or discuss your application needs and try to solve the problem more directly.
I think the second option would be better since you also want DMA incorporated into your program. So, I know you want 2 channels sampled at 2 MHz, starting with finite acquisitions. Does this mean you want some kind of retriggerable operation or a continuous read later? What are you trying to do with the 6110?
I should also note now that this board was the first S Series board, so it is quite old, and has been with NI longer than me ;-) I'm not as familiar with the 6110 as I am with M Series (or TIO Series) devices, so I will be asking colleagues for their experience as we go deeper into the application. I want to be able to explain to you how to modify the examples or provide specific register information and programming logic so that you can make the changes that you need.

Now my client want profitability batch wise and rate of consumption also batch wise.
I can create one characteristic WWBAT for batch and also planned  Table lookup for Derivation from SD table LIPS.
But how to get cost Batch wise - 10 rs for batch -X and 15 rs for batch-Y. becoz price will come from VPRS which is my latest MAP
    regards

    Hi
For Batch - You need to create a WW Char i.e. User Defined Char
Valuation Type - Should be available as a Standard Char in COPA.. You can pull it in your Op Concern from KEA5 using "Reference" option
To get the Batch No - You need to create a derivation step in KEDR using "Enhancement" method... SOURCE field can be ARTNR and Target Field will be WW Char.... Then you can write exit COPA0001 or COPA0005
Valuation Type can also be fetched using the same exit...

  • Best Data rate and format for Big Screen Playback

I am a video producer supplying content for a tradeshow display consisting of 18 flat screens oriented vertically, 8 over 8. Very heavy duty Windows playback machine, with 3 graphics cards, 1 for each set of 6 monitors. The total pixel size is 3240x 1280 px. We have produced a number of full screen and smaller movies that the interactive programmer is trying to intergrate into a Flash program where some videos will play full screen, and others in smaller windows (those were produced in 1920x1080). All videos were mastered at the specified pixel count, square pixels, progressive, and output in Pro Res 422, 44.1K audio. Flash is being used to create the interface, and I am transcoding to .F4V at lower bit rates like 4, 6, and 9 Mbps. They are having trouble playing these movies back smoothly. We have done similar projects in the past with Director without issue. Of course they are blaming the video, I am offering to encode in any format at any data rate they suggest. Can anyone suggest a direction here?

Are you trying to burn a standard DVD or are you trying to put a QuickTime .mov file on DVD media?
A standard DVD doesn't worry about file size (only the duration).
A "data" DVD is limited to the type of media used. A single layer DVD is about 3.7 GB's.
In order to make a data DVD you need to keep the data rate low enough to not exceed the DVD media playback abilities. They can't handle the higher rates found in many of the preset options.
You can avoid all of these headaches by telling the viewer to "copy" the .mov file from the DVD to their Desktop. Then nearly any of the presets option will work.
H.264 is a great video codec and the "automatic" preset should work just fine. Use "multi-pass" for best quality (takes a very long time). Remove the check mark for "Audio" since your file has none. Leave it checked and you waste file size because a silent audio track would be added.

  • Scanning slides and negatives for iMovie

What dpi setting should I use to scan my 35mm color slides and b/w negatives that will be imported into iMovie? I may want to print some of the photos too, so should I use a higher dpi and will iMovie compress the image to what it needs? When completed in iMovie, I'll burn to dvd with iDVD.

Hi Rick - my (not very powerful) dedicated slide scanner just scans to 1800dpi, and they usually result in rather dark images that have to be 'pushed' a lot in Photoshop - then the results are very acceptable. While in Photoshop you can also remove dust and other blemishes (some of my old ones had tiny patches of mould, and a few scratches as well!). As others say, scan at highest dpi possible - this also allows for some KB zooming (which is very useful especially for pics taken in portrait-mode).
In a few cases with very dark slides, the scanning was not very successful, so I used my video camera aimed at a projector screen (keep the image small), which worked very well, even allowing for zooming and panning to be done.
    Hope this helps.
