SCCM 2012 Moving the Database to Another Drive

Due to space constraints I need to move my SCCM 2012 R2 database to another drive on the same system(server). I will run preinst/stopsite command to stop all sccm services, but wanted to know if I could copy and move the DB and Log files to their
new drive location, instead of performing a SQL backup and restore? We are currently running SCCM 2012 R2 with SQL 2012 SP1 CU4 as our backend database.
Thanks,
-Bern

  • Is it good idea to move 500GB database to another drive?

    Hello Experts,
I have Exchange server 2013 on Windows server 2008 R2 Standard. All the roles are installed on single server.
I have a single database in D drive and the size of database is around 500 GB, The drive is about to full.
I have another partition(E drive) with 1.8 TB storage and planning to move this database into this drive? is it good idea to move this size (500 GB) database to another drive?
    Or
Should I create a new database in other drive, which has 1.8 TB storage and move mailboxes one by one.
Please let me know, what is the best practice for it.
    Thanks in advance!!
    Thanks, Manoj

    Hi,
There is no downtime if you create new database on new drive and move mailbox to it. Moving mailbox doesn’t shrink the old database file, you need to delete the original database after you moving mailbox to new database.

  • Running HTML DB apps on one machine with the database on another

I first want to apologize for this question being asked AGAIN.
I have spent the better part of the day reading through a lot posts regarding this issue (and there are a lot). My boss sent me this requirement on a new project that Oracle Forms and Reports run on one server and connect back to the database on another server for security. HTML DB needs to do the same thing.
    The question:
I have found out that the DAD file needs to be modified to allow this type of set up to work and the HTTP server needs to be running on that server. He is asking what in the DAD file needs to be changed to allow this to work. Would someone provide me with an example of what would need to be changed?
Also, I'm confused on the implementation of this. Currently all the applications I've created are for "in-house" users. This project is the first (that I've done) that is going to be open to users outside the company. I'm confused on the link that will be supplied to the users. After I import my application into the production database, I run it to get the link and send that to our users. If the application is going to be run from a different server from the database, how is/will the link to run the application be built? I hope I'm describing this well.
    Thanks,
    Joe

    Joe,
You wouldn't have the database server "open to the outside world". All you'd need to have open would be the port for HTTP traffic.
    There are two scenarios -
    1) Having them both (DB & Apache) on the same machine
You would still only have the HTTP port open. The "fear" is that if the Apache server is compromised then they have access to the database machine.
    2) Having them on separate machines.
In this case if the Apache server is compromised then, since by definition, you have a route from the Apache server to the DB server then they can still reach the DB machine from the Apache server machine.
The thing to do here is to ensure your Apache server is patched and secure, regardless of whether it's running on the same machine as the DB or not.
I'd be interested to see what others think.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 SQL Database Upgrade Fails : Setup cannot upgrade the ConfigMgr database. Contact your SQL administrator.

    Hi Friends,
We have planned to upgrade our SCCM 2012 SP1 infrastructure to SCCM 2012 R2 so we have setup test environment to test SQL database upgrade before doing same in production.
But while testing SQL database upgrade on test machine, it is getting failed with below error.
    ConfigMgrSetupWizard.log
ConfigMgrSetupWizard Verbose: 1 : Scripted setup failure handling callback called. Failure: 29.

Can anyone please help to get this resolved.
    Thanks.

We found out that there were duplicate entries in the PkgStatus_G and the PkgServers_G tables in the SCCM DB.  We identified them, deleted them , and then we were able to run the /TESTDBUPGRADE command and it went through fine.  We performed
all of this on a COPY of the PROD DB and then moved the changes in PROD.  Hope this helps someone.

  • I have 60 000 songs on a hard drive. The songs are referenced to the media file and not stored in the media file. I have moved the songs to another external drive. The itunes library has lost the link to the media files. How can I restore the links?

I have all my songs (60 000) on a remote drive. The drive is wireless networked. I installed a new router and had to map the drive again. Once this was done itunes could no longer locate the music. My music is not sitting in my media file but is rather referenced to the location of the music. Now that the location has changed due to the remapped drive how can I link the itunes library to the songs (media)again.
I have read many help comments and forums but so far nothing specific about relinking once the songs have already been moved and are referenced songs.
A step by step procedure would be helpful.
    Thank you
    Graham

I've uploaded a newer version that might catch that error. For some background on the script look at this thread.
iTunes remembers the location of each file in the database. If you right-click on a missing file, click Get Info, cancel when it asks you to try to find it, then look on the summary tab it will show you the last known location in the form file://localhost/<some path>. If you put the files back where they are expected to be, close iTunes and reopen, then iTunes will find them again. If not my script can attempt the task. When the script asks for a media folder you should respond with Z:\ since that seems to be where the artist folders are located.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 Uprade - Database Concerns

I recently completed the R2 upgrade process on my production environment. Everything appeared to complete successfully. No errors, warnings, or issues aside from this RBAC mishap -
    SCCM 2012 R2 Reporting error
After some further usage I'm finding some inconsistencies in my reporting data. Here's an example:
A software deployment went out last week to my users. This was a simple application upgrade, moving from 1 version to the next.
On multiple computers I can see the deployment was received and installed successfully. If I open Programs and Features I can see the software version has been updated.
From there I open the ConfigMgr console and fire up resource explorer. On multiple computers I can see a recent software scan has picked up the new software and it is reflected in resource explorer.
Now comes the DB issue - I run a manual DB query using the ADD_REMOVE_PROGRAMS table and it consistently shows me the outdated software version. This table is giving me incorrect data. Here's an example of the query I'm using:
    SELECT dbo.v_R_System.Name0, dbo.v_R_System.User_Name0, dbo.v_GS_ADD_REMOVE_PROGRAMS.DisplayName0,
    dbo.v_GS_ADD_REMOVE_PROGRAMS.Version0
    FROM dbo.v_R_System INNER JOIN
    dbo.v_GS_ADD_REMOVE_PROGRAMS ON dbo.v_R_System.ResourceID = dbo.v_GS_ADD_REMOVE_PROGRAMS.ResourceID
    WHERE (dbo.v_GS_ADD_REMOVE_PROGRAMS.DisplayName0 LIKE N'%Symantec Enterprise Vault%') AND (dbo.v_R_System.Name0 LIKE N'%testcomputer')
Is there something I'm missing? Why would resource explorer have accurate data and the database be returning outdated info? Appreciate any insight. Thanks!

    @Idan
Great point! I checked my last hardware inventory and it was back in December! Yikes! I pulled up my workstation policy and got hit with an ugly error as reported in
this thread. At the moment I'm rebuilding my workstation policy and will see if that resolves hardware inventory.
    @ Garth
The application I'm reporting on is 32-bit. This is primarily why I didn't expand to include 64-bit programs.

  • SCCm 2012 : Move SQL Database

    Hi
I have root domain (domain A) and child domain (B).
I install SCCM 2012 in domain A and use SQL 2012 cluster on domain B. I have a problem with a firewall. I install a new cluster SQL 2012 in root domain (Domain A).
My SCCM use: MP, DP, SUP, WSUS, Deployment Application, Deployment packages, Deploy Hotfix.
My question: It's possible to move SQL 2012 database (SCCM and WSUS) in domain B to domain A? and reconnect SCCM 2012 to database.
    Thanks

As long as the computer account is a local admin of the SQL server (of every node as you're talking about a cluster) it should move just fine, especially considering you are moving OUT of the trusted domain and into the same domain.
Simply move the database then re-run SCCM setup.  When you do one of the first options you'll get is if you're installing into a new site or "perform site maintenance".  Within in that category should be an option to connect SCCM to a
new database, which will do all the work for you.
Quick warning:  in the past when using that option I've seen cases where roles have re-installed after I changed the site database, usually the MPs (I'm guessing because they need to reconnect?).  So hop into monitoring and watch your logs after
doing this to make sure everything "Settles down".

The default location for this folder is in the "Music" folder". All my songs are still in my iTunes Music folder, everything else seems to be in place. Please help.

    Do a shift-start of itunes.

  • Move Public Folders Database to another Drive on same server - Exchange 2010

Hello all and thanks for your time and expertise.
We recently added a new drive to our Exchange 2010 server.  I've moved all mailboxes including arbitration mailboxes to this new drive (and new mailbox database).  I guess the last remaining step is to move the public folders databse to this new
drive.  I know in the console I can move the database path and the log files path for the public folders database.  Is this all I have to do to move my public folders successfully.
And then once everything is moved - can I safely remove the old mailbox database?
Your help and recommendations are greatly appreciated.

    Mike,
I moved the public folders database and received the following message:
    "Summary: 1 item(s). 1 succeeded, 0 failed.
    Elapsed time: 00:00:16
    Public Folders
    Completed
    Warning:
The task completed successfully, but the database "Public Folders" cannot be restored.
The exception message is "An Active Manager operation failed. Error: The database action failed. Error: Unable to mount database 'Public Folders'.
The database appears to have been mounted at least once since its creation,
but there is no database file at 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Mailbox\Public Folders\Public Folders.edb'. Either recover the database file from a backup,
or mount the database with a new, empty database by using the Mount-Database cmdlet with the -Force parameter.. [Database: Public Folders, Server: *******.***]".
    Exchange Management Shell command completed:
    move-DatabasePath -Identity 'Public Folders' -EdbFilePath 'g:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Mailbox\Public Folders\Public Folders.edb' -LogFolderPath 'g:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Mailbox\Public Folders'
    Elapsed Time: 00:00:16"
I blanked out the server name.
After I clicked off this message I remounted the public folders database and everything relative to the public folders seems to be working fine.  Did this message occur because exchange was trying to mount the public folders database from its old location
and so I can safely move on with my life.  Just wanted to double check with you.
And once everything has been moved from the old mailbox database such as user mailboxes, arbitration mailboxes - can I safely remove the old mailbox database.  Thanks for your help.

the sap note above is well explained.
but, you may use SQL Enterprise manager.
    1. stop sap.
    2. detach Database (Enterprise manager, on DB Name -> All Tasks->Detach Database
    3. Move Data and log files to new location
    4. Database -> All Tasks -> Attach Database and find the MDF file (the first data file) from the new location. (you may have to find each of the data and log files)
    5. verifiy it is correctly attached.
    6. Start sap

  • Moving the database to different mount point.

    Hi,
I have R12 app tier on one server and 10gR2 database on separate server.
I want to move the database files from /u01/oradata/PROD to /u02/oradata/PROD on the same server.
I know how to do this for the database using alter database rename file .....
But what do I have to do with the application and context files.?
Do I just need to edit the values s_dbhome1, s_dbhome2, s_dbhome3 and s_dbhome4 to point to /u02/oradata/PROD and then run adconfig?
    Many thanks
    Skulls.

I am not cloning, just moving the databaseI know, but Rapid Clone does also help (use the same hostname, domain name, port pool, ..etc except for the directory paths) -- Please note you do not need to use "alter database rename file" as Rapid Clone will take care of that.
so I think manual changing datfile names is needed, followed by edit context file and run autoconfig? This is also valid.
    Thanks,
    Hussein
