SCCM 2012 using SUP to Windows 2012 R2 WSUS

I have the following environment setup:
1. Windows Server 2012 R2 with SCCM 2012 SP1
2. Windows Server 2012 R2 with WSUS installed
3. Windows Server 2008 R2 with SQL Server 2012 SP1
I am trying to connect SCCM to the WSUS server as a SUP.  I have reinstalled and configured countless times.   I've tried Sebastian's steps near the middle-end of this http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/29135ae5-5f0c-49d9-b7ad-f4d5e9664a33/sccm-2012-sp1-sup-on-windows-server-2012?forum=configmanagerdeployment
I keep seeing an error in the WCM.log that the WSUS version is not supported.  The WSUS version on the Windows 2012 R2 server is 6.3.9600.16384
Permissions should not be an issue.  I have configured a Domain account and have added as a local administrator and also the WSUS Admin group.  Firewall is not an issue as ports are open.
Do I have to switch my WSUS server to 2008 R2?  Or remove it entirely and let SCCM install it as a SUP?  This is environment is entirely from scratch.

I was finally able to get this to work.  My logs were continuously showing that SCCM2012 was looking for WSUS 3.0 SP2 (+ KB).  I installed WSUS locally on the SCCM 2012 server and added a SUP there.  I was then able to successfully add the
remote WSUS server and it seems to be working now.

  • What versions of Adobe Reader are certified for use in MS Windows 2012 RDS?

I have a MS Windows 2012 RDS (Remote Desktop Services, the new name of Terminal Services) environment. We are running Reader 11.08 now, and having extreme performance issues opening certain PDF documents, and we did not have this issue with earlier versions of Reader/ TS services. And we have tried turning off Protected Mode, Enhanced Security, to no effect.
So I have been tasked to ask - what versions of Reader are certified to work in 2012 RDS? We want to see if downgrading to an earlier version will help, but I need to know what versions will work in 2012 RDS. I see 10.01.4 available as an offline install; would that be the earliest? Previously, in Win 2003 TS, we used to use Reader v8 successfully.
    Thanks

    Hi MIke,
Are you still facing this issue?
Have you tried to install latest update patch 11.0.09. Do you have any GPO's for Reader. Have you tried to disable and checked again.

    Hi
    Seems like Cryptographic
    is disable
The Cryptographic Services that should be running on your computer is for some reason set to Disabled for Startup type...
    Or
There is log file or database corruption in the Windows\System32\Catroot2 folder
    try this:
Click Start menu, and then click the Run icon.
In the small box that Opens, type the three letters: cmd then click the OK button.
In the command prompt window that just opened (a black background and white text), type the following commands, pressing the ENTER key on your keyboard after each line:
    net stop cryptsvc
    ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 oldcatroot2

  • Change license to Windows 2012 R2 Essentials and Windows 2012 R2 Standard

    Hi,
I'm working for a small company (10 users). We have 2 servers; 1 is a normal file server, domain controller etc.; the second is dedicated for running a financial application. We bought and installed new hardware but with so called 'Technet licenses'.
Obviously we need to buy proper licenses. I have 2 questions :
    1. Am I correct in buying 1 Windows 2012 R2 Essentials license, 1 Windows 2012 R2 Standard license and 10 CALs ?
    2. Can I just install these licenses 'over' the existing 'Technet licenses' ?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Ronald Ruijtenberg

I would purchase one Server Standard license, install it as a hypervisor on the server, then add to VMs.  First one is Server with the Essentials role, the second to run your financial application.  You can do this on one physical box and you
only have to purchase one copy of Server Standard.

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 SUP on Windows Server 2012

    Hi sccm guys,
I'm having Troubles to get the SUP role working on my Windows Server 2012. I'm using SCCM 2012 SP1. I installed (and did not configure) the WSUS role from the Server Manager. I Chose to install the DB on the local SQL instance (no WID instance).
Then I added the SUP role to the Server and configured it with the seperate wsus Administration site (Ports 8530 and 8531).
WSUS gets configured partially (Proxy Settings and "Products and Classification" Options only for Office and Windows)
The folowing error pops up in the wcm.log
Failed to set Subscriptions on the WSUS Server. Error:(-2147467259)Unspecified error
    Any clues?
    Cheers

  • SCCM 2012 Sp1 CU3 support Windows 2012 R2 deployment?

    Hi,
Sorry for so basic question, but I have read few docuemnts, blogs and official materials and I'm a bit confused.
In our organization we have SCCM Sp1 CU3. We are planning create and next deploy Windows 2012R2 Server images. On some documentations there is CU3 supports only application managment, inventory and so on. but there is nothing about image deployment.
So, my question is - I have to upgrade SCCM 2012 Sp1 CU3 to SCCM2012R2 to capture, build and deploy Windows 2012R2 system?
    Thank you.

Yes, you do. See what's new with ConfigMgr 2012 R2

  • How do I load an SSIS package created in Visual Studio 2012 Shell (Integrated) onto SQL Server 2012 using SQL Management Studio 2012

I am fairly new to this whole process of working with the Microsoft development environment.  Here is what I have to work with:
an NT server running Microsoft SQL 2012  - Microsoft SQL Server Standard (64-bit)  11.0.2100.60
and on my laptop (all freebie downloads):
SQL Server Management Studio 2012            ver 11.0.2100.60
Visual Studio 2012 Express  for Desktop Development and
    Visual Studio 2012 Shell (Integrated)
I was able to create an SSIS package in
2012 Shell (Integrated).  It takes a flat file and imports it into an SQL database table.  It runs successfully from within the
    2012 Shell (Integrated) envrionment.
But I am having trouble figuring out how to set this up on the 2012 SQL Server.  I see that one of my colleagues created an Integration Services Catalog,
and using SQL Management Studio I was able to create a folder under that called DigLic.  But when I go to the Projects subfolder of DigLic and attempt to import my SSIS package, I get an error message:
"To launch the Integration Services Deployment wizard, one of the components: Integration Services, Management Tools - Basic or Business Intelligence Development Studio has to be installed by the SQL Server
2012 Standard, Enterprise, Developer, or Evaluation Edition.  To install a component, run SQL Server Setup and Select the component name"
I realize that Express Versions of Visual Studio lack the full feature set of a professional version.  But am I wrong in assuming that owning a server version of SQL Server 2012 gives us license to a professional
version of SQL Management Studio 2012?  If so, how would I go about getting this software component installed?  And I am not clear if this is something that needs to be installed on our SQL Server or if I simply need a professional version of SSMS
    loaded on my laptop.
I work for a company that is fairly fractured in its repsonsibilities, so I would need to know exactly what to ask for if I need to track down any licenses that I might need and if I need to have any specific software installed on our SQL server or on my
    laptop.
All helpt would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Arthur,
Thank you for your reply.  But at this point, one of my points of confusion is what software I have available to me.  I wish I had a useful central help desk to call up and just say, "Hey, load me up with all of the professional version(s) of Visual
Studio.  But I do not know what we have license to.  And I kind of need to know what the options are, so that I can ask a specific question of our vast buracracy.
For now, I have downloaded only free versions of Visual Studio client software.  Since my company does have servers running Microsoft SQL Server, I am going to assume that we have proper licensing for those servers.  But does that server license
allow me to get any professional versions of the PC client software for the various Visual Studio(s) 2012?
And if I get a professional version of Visual Studio 2012, does that do away with the three different flavors that I have right now?  I have 2012 versions of SQL Server Management Studio, Visual Studio Express, and Visual Studio Shell (Integrated).
    Your feedback is much appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Apply SP1 to SQL 2012 clustered on a Windows 2012 failover cluster

For earlier versions of clustering there was an ability to prevent a resource from failing to a particular node. I used this when service packing clusters to ensure that no SQL instances would attempt to fail back to the node I was patching. That ability
doesn't seem to exist anymore. ANd pausing or stopping a node causes rule failure in the SP setup.
Has anyone successfully performed this patching and are there any best practises or tips to follow?
Regards, Matt Bowler MCITP, My Blog

    Hello Matt,
This is still available, though I'm not sure where you remember it being. You can choose individual resources in a resource group and can also do it at the resource group level as well. It's in the properties of each level and allows each resource or resource
group to be allowed to run on only the nodes selected.
Here is the KB on it (though they use the command line):
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958734
I'd patch the instances on the nodes that the instance is not currently active (if more than 1), pause the node and reboot if necessary. Continue rolling until services need to be moved or your patched nodes outweigh your unpatched nodes at which point I'd
move the services and patch all remaining nodes.

  • Windows 2012 RDP "resets" user settings while using Roaming Profiles

Last month we installed a RDP environment running a Windows 2012 DC and 2 Windows 2012 RDP servers. The RDP servers are running in a pool.
For the rest it's nothing fancy.
The problem is that user-settings are reset, most likely during logon. This only occurs when we use Roaming Profiles.
    - We create a new user, in a container with no GPO's attached.
    - This user gets a RP while logging on, no errors, at logoff the RP is written to it's correct folder.
    - Logging on again. Now for example I make Chrome standard browser and change the program which opens JPG files.
    - Logging off
    - I check the NTUSER.DAT in the RP folder and the changes I made can be found in the file. So it has been saved to the NTUSER.DAT.
    - Now I login again and check the settings I made. IE is standard browser again and the JPG setting is also back to standard.
    - Logging off
    - Checking the NTUSER.DAT in the RP folder and yes, everything is back to default.
Now the funny part is, when I create a user with a local profile, everything is working properly. Settings been saved.
It doesn't make a different what kind of user it is. Domain User, Domain Admin. They all have the same problems when using RP's.
No error messages in the Event Viewer.
I'm clearly unable to solve this problem. Hoping someone can help me on this one.
What makes the settings reset at logon while using Roaming Profiles?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Have you enable Cache copies option of roaming profiles?
This issue might occurs because the User Profile service does not load the terminal server roaming profile correctly after the user account password is reset.
When the Delete cache copies of roaming profiles Group Policy setting is enabled, and when a user is prompted to change the user account password, the User Profile service loads a local temporary user profile. The User Profile service loads this user profile
to perform the password reset operation. However, the profile changes to a combination of the local temporary profile and of the roaming profile after the user password is reset. Therefore, the terminal server roaming profile is not loaded correctly.
In addition, please try to delete the SID of the user from registry key and check the result. You can follow the below path.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
    More information:
You receive a "The User Profile Service failed the logon” error message
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947215/en-us
Also check “User Profiles on Windows Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Services” article.
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks.

  • Applications not being advertised in control panel on windows 2012 r2

    Hya,
Ive just installed the sccm 2007 client on a windows 2012 r2 server and the event logs say it has been installed ok.
the server is a member of a collection which is linked to another collection that has some advertisements.
but i go in control panel on the server with the new client and use "run advertised programs (32 bit) "  there are no programs listed.
    what is going wrong?
    cheers Mike

If the client just installed, it does take it a little while for it to initially refresh it's machine policy.
Also, if the adverts are mandatory (that is, they have a schedule), they won't show in the RAP at all, they will just execute.
Also, if you just installed the client agent now, how did it get into those collections (just clarifying the order in which you did things)? And, is the resource added to those collections showing as client = Yes in the console?

  • Synchronization fails on Windows 2012 Server

Hello, Running DPM 2012 R2, Protected computer Windows 2012 Standard
I'm backing up only folders (19 GB) on a Windows 2012 server which also have SCCM 2012 installed on it.  The initial replica and recovery point creations are successful.   Any
scheduled synchronization job scheduled after will fail.    The job display "In progress" but there is 0 MB data transferred and will remain in that stage for days until I cancel the job.  A reboot of the protected server
resolves the issue temporarily where I might get a couple days of successful synchronization\recovery points but then the job will freeze again.  I have looked in the event logs and the logs in Monitoring on the DPM server and also on the protected computer
but have not found any error that points to the cause.  Has anyone seen this issue?  Will be grateful if someone can point me in the right direction of troubleshooting this issue.  Thank you.

Not seeing any errors that stands out. Here is the log from today's synchronization job that is hung.

  • SharePoint 2010 SP2 hosted on Windows 2012 R2 NOT discovered by SCOM 2012 R2 + 2 SP MP's

What is the process to get SharePoint 2010 Management Packs loaded in System Center 2012 R2 to discover/monitor SharePoint 2010 SP2 (14.0.7121.5000) loaded on Windows 2012 R2?
    View of installed system:
System Center 2012 R2 loaded on Windows 2012 R2 (supported separately by SQL 2012 SP1 loaded on Windows 2012 R2)
-Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Products Management Pack for System Center Operations Manager 2007
-System Center 2012 Monitoring Pack for SharePoint 2010
     SharePoint 2010 SP2 (14.0.7121.5000) loaded on Windows 2012 R2 (supported separately by SQL 2012 SP1 loaded on Windows 2012 R2)
The SharePoint 2010 Management Shell works fine!
    Result
Event 0, Operations Manager - Cannot identify which SharePoint farm server is associated with. Check the management pack guide for troubleshooting information.
    Looked at these already:
KB2690744, Configuring the SharePoint 2010 Management Pack for System Center Operations Manager.
    http://om2012.wordpress.com/2013/05/24/sharepoint-2010-mp-on-scom-2012/
Further, if the xml push does have the command get-farm instead of get-spfarm, that could be the issue. i.e.

    Peter,
I recommend to remove the Windows 2012 R2 server out of the farm and redeploy on W2008 R2.
This issue does not have an easy fix.
Summarizing, this appears to be the issue:
    1. Windows Management Framework 3.0 is integrated with Windows 2012 R2, which installs .NET 4 and Powershell 4.0. Not uninstallable.
    2. The Add-PSSnapin Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell is not supported with Powershell 4.0.
    3. The SCOM SP2010 MP puts a package on the defined farm server and when the agent launches the package, it calls Powershell (v4 in theis case) and errors out. The target W2012 server will have an Error 0 in the Operations Manager Event log. See below.
    Options:
    1. Work around maybe - Develop method for manual discovery (I'm working on that now).
    2. Rebuild SP2010 farm on Windows 2008 R2
    3. System Center Team - Write a new MP to down version Powershell (Powershell.exe -Version 2)
    4. Powershell Team - Write a SharePoint Snapin for Powershell 4

  • Boot Failed. EFI SCSI Device 1. Hyper-V Windows 2012 R2 Preview

    Hello,
I am new to Hyper-V. I installed Windows Server 2012 R2  Preview on a physical server and installed Hyper-V role on it.
I am trying to install Windows 2008 R2 on Hyper-V as a guest OS.
From Hyper-V manager, I created a VM and supplied 2008 R2 ISO as a boot device.
Windows 2008 R2 ISO is bootable. I have used the same ISO on VMware and it works.
I connected the VM and powered on, but OS instalaltion doesn't start.
I get error " Boot Failed. EFI SCSI Device 1." Below is th screen capture.
How to fix this problem ?
How do I go to Hyper-v VM BIOS settings ?
How do I change the boot sequence for Hyper-V VM ?
    Thanks ! Jayawardhane

I was getting the same error but with WINDOWS 2012 STD Edition.
My case: I was trying to use the existing WINDOWS 2012 VHDX with Generation 2 Virtual Machine, as I wanted to make use of 'Virtual Hard Disk Sharing' feature which is only supported on SCSI Controller. But during boot, it looked for UEFI code, whereas
I had created VHDX using BIOS boot partition. So I guess, In order to use 'VHD Sharing' feature, I have to convert boot partition to GPT which supports UEFI.
If I use the Generation 1 virtual machine, and then change the VHDX Controller from IDE to SCSI from settings, I see the option 'VHD Sharing' getting enabled, but unfortunately the Generation 1 BIOS does not have support for SCSI only IDE.

  • Windows 2000 user account migrate to new Windows 2012 R2 domain

    Hi all
I have a customer using Windows 2000 domain with many user accounts and file share service.
Now they want to use a new Windows 2012 domain without upgrade from old 2000 domain due to some hidden problem.
Customer requested to keep user name, password, uid for existing file share access.
May I know any tools for migrate user account from Windows 2000 domain to Windows 2012 domain?
    thx
    Q K

    Hi,
Can you please confirm your requirement, that is you will be using a new Windows 2012 domain with only the user accounts from Windows 2000 domain.
If the above text matches your requirement, I would suggest you the following steps,
    1. You can use CSVDE - command line tool to export the AD user information as CSV file from  Windows 2000 domain,
    http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/data-center/simplify-admin-tasks-by-exporting-active-directory-data-with-csvde/
    2. Then, you can import the CSV file with required user attributes (domain details modified according to the target domain) to Windows 2012 domain using PowerShell as
shown in the link given below,
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/bettertogether/archive/2011/01/09/import-bulk-users-to-active-directory.aspx

  • KMS windows 2012

    Hi Team ,
I have windows 2012 KMS server. Its used to activate windows 2012 , windows 2008 server , MS office and Desktop 7 & 8. Already product keys are updated and activating is happending.when i checked in Volume activation management tool i am not able to
    view the products.
    I have two question
How to see the list of product updated in my KMS server.
How windows 8 tablet activation work with KMS. I have tablet and facing issues with activate.
    Thanks In Advance

Try running the cmd line versions of the tool.
    Open CMD as an admin.
    Run -> 'cscript c:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs /dlv all | more'
This will show you all the products that your server can activate as well as the license status and counts.  Ensure all the products that are supposed to be there....are there.
For the Win 8 tablets, how were they setup? Do they have the KMS client key installed or do they show a different partial key? Do you see the traffic in the log entries of the KMS server?
Are the Win 8 Tablets the only devices not activating?
