SCO 2012R2 CU2 - Run Program (Local on MS) error
Am trying to simply 'Run Program' locally on the runbook server (single box with remote DB configuration. Both the Orchestrator Service and the RB service are local admins and in the Orch Sys Grp (more than needed I know).
The program is a simple one msg.exe localhost test
Runs fine on the system outside of SCO, with my acct and the RB acct.
When I appempt to run in via the console (Test Console) (1 activity only) it errors out with "Could not install service - Orchestrator Run Program Service: Access is denied. Installing Orchestrator Run Program Service requires administrative
privileges on the target computer. "
I have tried different variations of the Run As and the Security Tab on the activity but frankly I have run this MANY times at MANY customers and never run into this. Also double checked COM permissions
Anyone have any ideas
Hi,
there are differences executing a Runbook with Runbook Tester:
http://www.sc-orchestrator.eu/index.php/scoblog/99-functionality-differences-executing-a-runbook-with-runbook-tester
I guess the account which started Runbook Designer/Runbook Tester is no local admin on the target system.
You can specify a local admin (domain\user) in tab Security of the Activity. This account is used to trigger the (installation of) Orchestrator Run Program Service.
The Run As is perhaps needed to execute the program.
Regards,
Stefan

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------S1:I uninstalled BPA.
S2: I installed BPA again using the default options by selecting all the default options that the BPA showed during installation. EG. I selected 'Oracle Lite' which was by default an option.
S3: After BPA installation, I also installed BPA Publisher which i had not done last time.
S4: Restated my system and it all works gr8 now.
Actually, the BPA Publisher creats a Repository area so it should have been installed along with the BPA installation. And Since a Repository area was not found it was giving this error message again and again.
Now its all fine . Hopefully, some one else will learn from my mistakes. -
Powershell Hang when using Run Program (2012 R2)
I've seen a couple posts about this in the past but nothing recent. I am calling a powershell and passing through some variables to run program activity in orchestrator. The program runs (in this case the DB is created) and the script finishes, however the
activity does not. I've tried two solutions:
http://blog.coretech.dk/jgs/sco-2012-running-powershell-scripts-via-run-program-activity/
and
http://www.sc-orchestrator.eu/index.php/scoblog/67-running-powershell-with-the-run-program-activity-from-orchestrator
Neither of which seem to do the trick. Here is my command
Note: The script runs fine when called on the machine locally. For sake of cleanliness I've removed my <Nul 2>&1 attempts.I have found in these situations that having a non-stop error seems to get it from freezing (along with <Nul 2>&1). I use 'Get-Content "C:\Farce.txt"' as my last line.

Can't Run program in Debug Mode

Subject: Can't Run program in Debug Mode
Has anyone else experienced this problem? We have written a non-express
program that uses the Express generated services project as a supplier
plan. However, when we try running this program in debug mode about 50%
(or more) of the time we abend while Forte is trying to partition the
application. Since we have many database classes in our Business Model we
are wondering if Forte is timing out during the partition phase or if the
server partition is running out of memory . The following error messages
are produced by Forte. Any suggestions???

-----------------------------------------------Hi,
We have had the same problem in a non-express application
with a heavy server partition. In our case, the error was not
systematic, depending on the server workload at the time we
tried to partition and run.
The work-around we're using is to put the -fm flags (increasing the x
parameter to say 30000) in the 'server arguments' of your server
partition
properties in the partition workshop. Note that if your server is a Unix
platform,
you need to put double-quotes before and after the parenthesis in the -fm
syntax.
Hope this helps,
Vincent Figari
BTW, what Forte version are you using ?

Subject: Can't Run program in Debug Mode
Has anyone else experienced this problem? We have written a
non-express
program that uses the Express generated services project as a supplier
plan. However, when we try running this program in debug mode about
50%
(or more) of the time we abend while Forte is trying to partition the
application. Since we have many database classes in our Business
Model we
are wondering if Forte is timing out during the partition phase or if
the
server partition is running out of memory . The following error
messages
are produced by Forte. Any suggestions???

Need help in using [RUN PROGRAM] Activity against a server in another domain
Hi Experts,
We have two domains with two way trust enabled. Orch server exists in DomainA and target server exists in DomainB.
We are trying to execute some scripts(g:IPCONFIG) from orch server to target server using RUN PROGRAM activity. This is running fine and give expected results, if I give Built-in Administrator credentials in Security Tab. But I'm getting some
strange values like chinese/japanese language strings, If I use a DomainB/DomainA user (Part of local admin of the target server) in security tab as well as Advanced tab-->Runas.
Things I tried:
- DomainA/DomainB user in Security Tab as well as RunAs tab ---> Strange Strings
- DomainA/DomainB user in Security Tab and BuiltIn Administrator in RunAs tab ---> Strange Strings
- BuiltIn Administrator in Security Tab ---> Expected result
- BuiltIn Administrator in Security Tab and DomainA/DomainB user in RunAs tab --> ProgramExitCode = -10xxxxxx
But our requirement is to run the script on the target server as Domain User(Part of local admin).
Thanks in Advance

Can FTP-access to field point log file interrupt the running program?
Can FTP-access to field point log file interrupt the running program?
We have a problem where our factory process control program on a Field Pointer suddenly stops the process. We are running the development system on a PC, wich deploys the program on the Field point, with user interface on the PC. Quite often the process stops for no apparent reason. I'm not sure right now if the control program on the Field Point is still running or if it stops. We use FTP from a distant PC (over VPN) directly to the Field Point to check if the process is running, by looking for date and size of log files produced during running process. I've never opened och copied any log file during process run, because this I'm sure this would cause problems for new log entries to be written. But can the mere looking at the log folder via XP-pros ftp-functionality cause the Field Point to have problems writing data to a log file?
I'm not sure how windows XP pro handles "my network places" when it comes to FTP, it look that it keeps some kind of local copy of the folders, or at least the files opened.
Next version of the program will have only basic functionality on the Field Point, leaving logging etc. to another program on the PC, but right now we are stuck with this system.
Ola AIt turned out that the problem lies in the harware of the production machine, it was not a labiew-program problem at all!

Hi All,
I am using OWB 11gR2 and I am getting "perl" location error after start workflow for any dimension or fact.
*Cannot run program "/usr/bin/perl": CreateProcess error=2, The system cannot find the file specified
The log is below. I am using Windows 2008 R2 OS and 11gR2 DB. The perl path is set in the environment variables and I can run the perl.exe from command line.
Why OWB is looking for the Unix base path "/usr/bin/perl": is a question for me.
If anybody knows the issue please guide me.
Thanks

Contacting workgroup server requires run program-activity?
Dear Technet-group
I am currently working on runbooks within our environment.
The current setup is that we have several Domain-joined servers and some Workgroup servers. The runbookserver is domain joined.
When contacting workgroup servers, I encountered an issue where I need to add the "Run Program" activity and fill in the local credentials in the "Run As" tab instead of filling in the security tab to make the runbook run succesfully.
Has anybody encoutered this bug before or does anyone have a possible fix for this?
KR,
MitchHello Stefan,
Thank you for replying.
I think I might have formed my question incorrectly. Let me explain my problem in detail.
My situation is as followed.
1 workgroup server as testpurpose.
My Orchestrator-environment in a domain.
As a form of testing, I created a very simpel runbook with the local admin credentials in the security tab, so that account has more than enough permissions.
The runbook contains 2 activities. 1 intialize data, which only contains the input of the server's IP to connect to and 1 get Disk Space Status, which gets data from the testpurpose-server. Inside the "Get Disk Space Status" I filled in the local
admin's account under the security tab, enabling him all permissions.
When I run this runbook, it fails giving me the message: "Failed to connect to disk"
However, I found out that when I add the "Run Program"-activity infront of the "Get Disk Space Status", clear out the security tabs and fill the account in under the Run As-tab and add a simpel "date" command to be executed,
I do manage to get a success.
This is however a workaround for the issue we are having. Have you ever encountered something like this?

Yes, probably can.. but it won't be fast. You are better storing programs locally and data remotely.

Error with Run Program Service in invoke runbook.
I made main runbook (it do some things) and on the end i pute invoke runbook. In this child runbook i have
Run Program activities with Java srcipt.
When started this rb finaly i get error Could
not start Orchestrator Run Program Service service on 10.56.7.17 - Access is denied. (code 5),
but when manually i run this child runbook with any chaneges and this same date it works well.
In this Run Program i set that it ryn from admin acount but that don't nothing changes.
Where is problem? When you run it manually (with Runbook tester I assume) the Runbook will use
your admin credentials to perform all of the actions. When it runs scheduled or with an invoke from somewhere else it will use the credentials of the user account you've assigned to the Runbook service.
As a test, check which user is assigned to the service (via services.msc) and make that one a temporary local admin on the target machine. If it works, then you know it's permissions related to that specific account.
I give up ;), Yes, I testing by Runbook tester. But not shure that we understand :)
I have two scenarios (i can't put images, i need to verify my account).
1) One runbook. Exp. name" child. Inside is Run Program, that program is on different server.
Its work only when in options this activity i set local admin account from that server.
2). I created new runbook - parent. In this I put invoke runbook linked to that child. I do not change anything else. Now i will try run it (from tester, web console or scheduled) i get error
Could not start Orchestrator Run Program Service service on 10.56.7.17 - Access is denied. (code 5).
What I do wrong, what I think wrong? -
We have a simple runbook that runs an .exe program local on a remote server.
When I run the runbook within the Runbook Designer and the Runbook Tester it runs succesfully.
When I run the runbook within the Orchestration Console (http://server4:82) I get the error message "Access is denied. Installing Orchestrator Run Program Service requires administrative privileges on the target computer."
Orchestrator hierarchy:
server1 Management Server
server2 Runbook Designer
server3 Runbook Server
server4 Web ServerAlready solved it!
Even after making the Service Account a Domain Admin it didn't work after restarting the two services on server1. But I forgot the service on server3! Apparently when you use the Web Server it runs the runbook through the Runbook Server and when you
use Runbook Designer it runs locally within the Runbook Tester? -
Access to a FG from another running program
Group, Is there any way to "get a hold of" a reference of a functional global running inside another vi? I have a program that uses a functional global to pass data between vi's of a program. I have this program starting up as a service when I start the computer so I don't really have access to its front panel. Part of the data that the FG holds is a STOP flag and will shut down mulitple parts of this program. I would like to build another program that I can start and run at will that will set the STOP flag in the "hidden" running program. I am not sure quite how to do this.
Thanks
ToddWhat you are essentially asking to do is to access an internal resouce of another program. Doesn't really matter if it's a LabVIEW program. In your case you could enable the ActiveX server for the other program so you can access the VI that way. The LabVIEW Help contains information on how to enable the ActiveX server for an app and how to use it from another application. You could also use shared variables. You can take a look at this overview for more ideas:

I am having a problem w/ my Itunes working correctly, after accidentally running Itunes through my troubleshooter to, Run Programs Made For PreviousVersions of Windows. It keeps popping up that the Compatibility Version is on, to make sure it's off before opening my Itunes Account. I've looked everywhere, Please, Please, How Do I Make This Right??!??
It sounds like either your hard drive or the SATA cable that connects it to the motherboard are failing. This could be heat related in your case, which is why you see it after it runs awhile. You can take it to the Genius Bar for a free evaluation. If you decide to test it yourself, I usually suggest moving the hard drive to an external enclosure. If it works there for awhile, the cable is probably the issue.

does win8/8.1/10 kill/end-task long-running programs automatically as stated in specs? how specifically does it detect a locked-up process?
has this been put into windows 7 at any time to make it similar to windows 8?
Please supply accurate answers. thank you.
My understanding the reason for this change was to handle locked-up programs.
I do have a number of long-running processes. some examples of mine and scenarios for other users:
simulations on a Workstation or HPC Server
doing a directory tree walk on a hard disk with >=1TB of data
reference articles I have found on the subject:
windows 7
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/exit-program-not-responding#1TC=windows-7
windows 8
From some of what I understand, you can also get the "Program Not Responding" or similarly titled dialog box when:
bug in the source code of the program in question. for instance, while(1){} such as forever loops (win7)
similar program bug when declaring a function one way but defining it a different way and then calling it (mismatch in function signature) (win7)
similar to above with DLLs in using MSVCRT*.DLL or other
(?) can't remember for sure on this, but I think some badly formed calls or it was invalid values or data type mismatch to Win32 API can do this from buggy code. (win7)
for (x=0; x < 16777216; x++) {your code here...} in other words, large values for loop termination (win7)
this is a repost of http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-performance/does-win88110-kill-long-running-programs/d35c3c9e-c6f4-4bbf-846a-2041bf2167a0?tm=1427518759476

Hi Jim,
First, I have to admit that I'm not fully understanding the question, If a program is not responding, it means the program is interacting more slowly than usual with Windows, typically could be a confliction of software or hardware resources between
two programs, lack of system resources, or a bug in the software or drivers. In that case, we can choose to wait or end the program. This design is similiar in Windows 7, Windows 8 and other OS.
For deeper analysis, system determines whether the system considers that a specified application is not responding using a "IsHungAppWindow function",
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms633526.aspx
And this link also give some explanation: Preventing Hangs in Windows Applicationshttps://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd744765%28v=vs.85%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
While I'm not a developer, to better understand this, I recommend you contact members in the MSDN Forum:
