Screen Resolution in Solaris 10

Hi
I just installed Solaris 10 on my PC. I only get 2 resolutions (640x480) and (800X480) and my PC is capable of higher. How do I increase the resolution.
Also i cannot configure audio devices. The audio tray icon appears with an X and the system tells me it cannot configure devices.
Please Help

make sure your video card is in HCL, and then switch
to console login when CDE login appears, login system
and run 'kdmconfig' to change all ur video settings.

  • Screen Resolution in solaris 10 b69

    Hello
I have installed solaris 10 (10/04) in VMWARE and on my Toshiba satelite 2410-303 and there is no way to change its screen resolution. It keeps its 640x480 nomatter how many times i have tried to change it with kdmconfig. Keep in mind that i have tried in solaris 9 and in previous versions of solaris 10 express several times with success.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance

First you have to check whether you're using the Xsun or the Xorg
X11 server. See file /usr/dt/config/Xservers. I think the default with
s10 b69 is the Xorg server. You've the option to configure the other
    X11 server by chanhing /usr/dt/config/Xservers.
With Xsun, you can change the screen resolution using the kdmconfig
program. For a vmware environment, the XF86-VMWARE driver
    should be used.
For Xorg, you can create an X11 server config file by running
/usr/X11/bin/xorgconfig. I'm not a vmware user, but I guess that you
can select the "vmware" video driver, and configure approriate
    screen resolutions.

  • Change Screen resolution in solaris

    Hi
How can I change the screen resolution in either cde/java desktop? I remember setting the resolution to 800*600. But after installation the screen resolution has become 640*480 and everything is big.

    How`s about a little more info ?
Are you running a SPARC machine or a PC ?
If you have installed on a PC, simply bring up a terminal window and type : kdmconfig
A little more involved if installed on a SPARC machine.
    Good luck .................JRH.

  • Screen resolution in solaris 10 05/09

I used to know how to do this but for some reason I am at a loss this time. For a split second xrandr showed the 1650 x 1050 that I needed but now it is gone. Max's out at 1400. How do I manually add that resolution to my system? My monitors native resolution is the 1650 setting.

Very strange behavior... I set the utsettings on my sunray back down to 1400x1050 and then relogged. Suddenly my xwindows session was at 1680 again and the physical screen was set to 1400. Under xrandr all of the higher settings had reappeared. Utsettings then to enlarge the physical screen to 1680 and now all is good. Not sure what will happen when I relog...

  • Solaris 10  x86 console screen resolution and blank console after exiting X

    Hello,
At some point my Solaris 10 machine stopped showing the console after leaving Xorg for the console login. I know the console is active because I can blindly pass the shutdown or other command and it will respond, or after waiting a few minutes will bring the GUI login back. I can see the console before the GUI login while booting but not after. I have a dual output Nvidia 6200 on a 22" LCD running Solaris 10 using the latest Nvidia drivers. I would also like to know if it possible to set the console screen resolution somehow either from the shell or from grub? I have been searching the internet for weeks about this and am unable to find a solution.
    TIA,
    Brett

After doing even more searching, it looks as if this is an issue with Nvidias drivers. At least similar issues on Linux and FreeBSD that I have seen. Anyone know of a fix other than reverting to much older drivers? Still cannot find any info on setting the console screen resolution, though I can't even see it at the moment unless I refrain from ever starting X again. There has to something similar to vga= that's used in Linux. Anyone?

  • Solaris 10 Install - 10/09 version - screen resolution

    Hi guys:
I just installed an x86 version of Solaris 10 10/09 onto Lenovo T61. GUI install would not come up, so I used a command line mode. It turned out that Solaris used a greater video resolution than 1024 and my screen does not handle that. What is the reason for an install using resolution greater then 1024, as well being a Solaris default screen resolution? Can that be changed during the install? Is there an issues area for Solaris 10?
    Thanks
    Leonid

I am not sure what went wrong, but after another non-GUI reinstall - option 4 on the install, my LCD is OK now.
I have also tried option 3 of the install - text desktop, also uses GUI - worked fine as well...

  • Changing resolution in Solaris 10 sparc system

How do change resolution in solaris 10 on sparc system?
During install display was fine. Once boot to OS, display is bad. Need to know how I can change resolution to get a decent display on screen.

I'm not too sure about sparc hardware, as I don't know which graphic server it uses, but on my system(x86) the same thing happened. What I had to do was make an xorg.conf as the install doesn't create one.
On the CLI execute '/usr/X11/bin/xorgconfig' and this should step you through creating an xorg.conf file- as long as you are using the Xorg server of course.
    or
execute '/usr/X11/bin/Xorg -configure' this should create a basic xorg.conf and you just edit it yourself where appropriate.
Personally, if you know your graphic board, monitor, keybrd and mouse along with refresh rates the first method is probably best.

  • How to change the screen resolution

Could someone please help and tell me how I can change the screen resolution (i.e. the dimensions of the monitor) in Solaris 10 using CDE?

  • Cannot change screen resolution on an Ultra 5 using m64config

I have an Ultra 5 with Solaris 2.6 connected to a Xerox XR6-19Dw 19" widescreen monitor with 1440x900 pixels. This workstation was set up a long time ago, so I do not know exactly how it has been set up. The screen resolution is set to 1280x1024x60 and it looks very blurry due to the mismatch between LCD pixels and the resolution setting. First I tried m64config -res 1440x900x76 try. This just turns the screen all white, luckily it reverts to the old setting after 10 seconds. Then just for fun I tried m64config -res 1280x1024x60. This also turned the screen all white. I have heard there is also a way to set the screen resolution using the boot prom, but that this is not necessary because m64config should work. It is very important that I do not mess up this workstation, but the eyestrain is a big problem. Is there a safe way to fix this?

Get a different monitor. Use one that is far less capable and has an old-style 4:3 screen ratio (not a wide screen).
The integrated graphics of the Ultra5/Ultra10 platform has only 4MB of frame buffer RAM and defaults to Sun's screen output of 1152x900 at 66Hz refresh. In fact, very early Ultra 5 systems had only 2MB of frame buffer RAM for the integrated graphics. The hardware is incapable of providing anything like what you are asking for.
If you don't care about color depth, the 1280x1024 resolution you currently see is the highest you're going to get. There is absolutely no chance for any wide-screen settings. If you ever hope for 24bit color, you will have to go down to the 1152x900 setting or more probably down to 1024x768.
You're system is a design from 1997 that first shipped to paying customers in 1998.
I think you are hoping for too much out of that dinosaur.

  • How to change the screen resolution in Sparc workstation.

I am using the CDE screen to login. I need to set the screen resolution to 1100*864. How to set?
solaris 10 current setting is 1280*1024.

Specs for Ultra20 machine list ATI graphics as " onboard " chipset and the availability of four (4) other plug-in cards as options.
Depending on the installed graphics card, you must seek different commands, etc. for each change of resolution.
If you do not have the original manuals that accompanied the unit, check Sun`s site for documentation. They list an abundance of info and the " Getting Started " book gives indepth details about setting up the various graphics options for proper use with the various operating systems. ....................... • Bridge - How to view image in full screen resolution

In Bridge - How to view an image in full screen resolution and not as a Preview (Space bar), like in Lightroom (F), Photoshop or ViewNX 2 ?

The size of the Bridge Preview window will always be the absolute limit of the image display in Bridge.  Maybe I am not following you.  Sorry

  • DB does not look the same in different screen resolutions

    Hi All -
I have built my dashboards using the Windows screen resolution 1024 x 768, and exported the dashboard into powerpoint.  With this resolution the dashboard looks normal.  I then changed my Windows screen resolution to 1280 x 1024, opened the ppt slideshow and my X-axis labels are being cut off.  The labels are written vertically (ex: 06/09/09).
Does anyone know why this could be happening?
    Thanks!
    Tracy

I am experiencing the exact same thing. The width of the tabs in the layout editor is varied depending on the length of the text. However, at run-time, the width of the tabs is fixed, causing the tabs to be wider than the window and a set of VCR buttons to appear in the upper right corner of the canvas. Personally, I think this is a Forms bug. Why would they intentionally let us set the width to variable at design-time only to force a fixed width at run-time?

  • Unable to Change Screen Resolution in Remote Session - Windows Server 2012 R2

Does anybody know of a way to allow Remote Desktop users to adjust their own screen resolution in a remote session under Windows Server 2012 R2? We are struggling with this and can't seem to find a solution.
When users login to their RDP session and try to adjust their screen resolution this message is displayed in Control Panel:
"The display settings can't be changed from a remote session."
We don't want to use the "make text and other items larger or smaller" scaling feature, as this produces undesirable results with some of our applications.  We also don't want to have to support multiple types of RDP clients or RDP shortcut
    files.
We have looked at other posts but can't find an answer that applies to Windows Server 2012 R2.  The closest thing we could find is KB2726399, but it only applies to Server 2008.
Does anybody have a solution for Server 2012?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Currently you cannot change the resolution from within the session.  This is normal and expected behavior.
Unfortunately this means you need to set the desired resolution before connecting by using custom .rdp files, manually within the Remote Desktop Client, custom web launch page, custom windows launch program, etc.

  • Using Mini DisplayPort to VGA, screen resolution distorts.  How do I fix?

When I use my Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter, the resolution gets too big for my screen (mbpro 15") and the same thing appears on the projector I use. I'm not sure if I should change my screen resolution while I use the projector or what?
Also, the first (and only) time I used it, it seemed as if the signal wouldn't even send. After a while of fiddling around, the screen finally showed up on the projector (distorted) but we didn't do anything different to change that. It just kind of did it on it's own. Is this common for "first uses" or will this happen every time?
I plan on using this again Friday.

Welcome! If you have mini displayport, you should try the appropriate discussion group for your newer machine:
