Screwed up the initial start-up with Migration assistant

I just recieved my 27" refub iMac, and was all excited to transfer my files over from my old iMac.
When I started the system up, I followed all the directions, followed the migration assistant, and everything sync'd. Great. Until...
Not only did all of my files transfer over, but all of my old settings, too. It's basically a mirror of my old iMac. The problem with this is that I have some settings that I didn;t want to transfer over. Further, things like Office for Mac 2011 seem to have only migrated as a shell - the actual program content is missin on the new iMac.
I wanted a fresh, clean, original factory setting system with just my files (photos, iTunes, docs, etc). I can re-download Office, and all of the other programs. I just wanted myt files. Files only.
Just. My. Files.
How can I re-start the computer so that it erases the original setup/migration I did, so that I can power it up again, walk through the factory startup process, and then transfer only the FILES, not the bad user settings I had on my old iMac?
Help!
Sadly, I've had the old iMac for 5/6 years, but am very basic with its OS/file system, etc.
THANKS SO MUCH FOR ANY HELP!!!

Setup Assistant would probably have been the better route, but you need to do that at first boot of the Mac. All is not lost though, courtesy of Pondini's invaluable resource:

  • I am having problems with migration assistant (windows pc to Mac 2011) When I get to the 'Quit other applications' box and click continue, nothing happens. There are no other apps running - any ideas, please?

I am having probems with migration assistant. Trying to transfer data from a windows laptop to iMac 2011. It was working fine when I did the set-up yesterday, but it was going to take hours to transfer some videos so I quit the process with the intention of doing it again at a later stage. However today I find that everytime I get to the 'Quit other applications' box on the Mac and click 'continue', nothing happens. Have checked mission control and confirmed no other apps running. Tried several times with the same result every time. Migration Assistant running on my laptop with the 'Waiting for mac to connect' box displayed. Mac is connected to wi-fi OK as able to use Safari and access internet. Any ideas, please?

Thanks for your suggestions. Have managed to get Migration Assistant working but now have a new problem, i.e. where does it save the transferred files?!! Searched a few forums and it seems it saves it under your old username, or suchlike. Anyway I tried logging on as a new user using my old user name but there were only a handful of files there, couldn't locate the majority of stuff from my old laptop. Anyway I don't intend to go through any more hoops with MA - will just save the important stuff to an external drive and transfer it that way. Not impressed with MA at all. I thought it was supposed to be a user-friendly tool to simplify the transfer from pc to Mac - not my experience, I'm afraid!

  • What's the fastest way to transfer files with Migration Assistant?

I am trying to transfer everything from an iMac 21.5 over Ethernet with Migration Assistant and it is 20+ Hours estimated transfer time. Once I strt can I switch to Thunderbolt?  Everything I've read states this is the fastest means.
    Thanks!

Thanks. Through further investigation my old iMac does not have a Thunderbolt port so that's out of the question. I think it was going over wifi instead of Ethernet so I disabled my router and am now migrating from Time Machine via USB 2.0. Estimated around 3+ hours now.
Any idea how to get my old iMac out of migration mode?

  • Backup will not restore with migration assistant.

This is long and complicated but here goes. Had a 10.5 machine PPC that was backing up to a time capsule. IMac blew out PS so was toast. Took it home and took another iMac 10.5 machine that had a bad HD. Put new HD into that machine and installed 10.6 and then ran migration assistandt from the old iMac HD drive from the unit with the bad PS. The restored iMac with the new HD was a perfect close of the older iMac and everything was perfect. Took to customer site and they were happy. Time machine started backing up again to the same time capsule as before. It created a new backup image on the time capsule with the EXACT SAME NAME as the older iMac had. I did not know that until a year later when the new hard drive in the rebuilt iMac failed. I took a newer iMac of the Intel variety with 10.7 on it to the customer site. I told migration assistant to restore from the time capsule users and data file. I di not want it to restgore programs since I knew the ones on the newer iMac where newer versions and probably not compatible. Restore seemed to go just fine. Users were all there and desktop looked the same as the older iMac with the dead hard drive. I had to install a printer driver but all appeared okay. Customer called the day later and said all files for pages and numbers and address book appeared a year old at the newest. See where this is going.
I went to the site and started looking at the backup files on the time capsule drive. Taht is when I noticed that two exact backup named files existed. So I started drilling down through them ( Not using time machine casues it only had 1 day history on it ) and looked at the dates of the files. Sure enough, one of the backup images had files that had all ended a year ago when the original iMac blew out the PS and the other backup file with an identical name had files much more current in the current month and year. Simple I said to myself. I just happended to pick the older file to restore from. So I renamed the older file so I could not get them confused. Double checked that the one with the current files was named correctly. Went to migration assistant again and ran it again. Completed just fine but sill no file less than a year old. NOw I am really puzzled so I tried a test of one simple file to see if I was wrong in my assumptions. The address book file was one of the files that was a year old. I went to the time caplsule and drilled down to the exact file that address book makes. I had already thrown the corresponding file away on the new machine so I copied the file from the exact same location on the time capslue back up to the same location on the new machine. I then fired up address book on the new machine and the address book worked perfectly with the new and updated and current records.
So now I am sure that the drive image that I have been playing with on the time capsule has the up to date backups.  But migtration assistant will not move them to the new machine. It will take a very long time to move every pages and numbers files scattered around in various folders to do this manually. What is wrong with migration assistant that it will not work correctly.

I am not asking if there is anything on the card.  I'm not worried about the backup or recovering all of my information.  I'm asking if setting up the replacement phone as NEW will change anything at all when I use the OLD sim card.

  • Transfering Settings with Migration Assistant

Can anyone tell me what "settings" are transferred when using migration assistant to set up a MacBook Pro (by either migrating from another MacBook Pro or from a time machine backup)? It always asks if you want to transfer 1) applications, 2) documents, 3) settings
    Here is the background:
    1) Applications: I am setting up a new machine (OS 10.6.6) from an almost identical machine that I barely finished setting up (also OS 10.6.6). I had only a few programs installed but because of known transfer problems due to licensing issues (Office 2011, Adobe CS5) was advised by colleagues just to install my applications fresh on the new machine, which I did.
    2) Documents: I would like to use migration assistant to copy all my documents, I don't see a problem with that and I was planning to do that next.
    3) Settings: What I don't know is whether I should restore/migrate "settings". Are these things like my folder display preferences or power settings (which may have taken some time to get just the way I like and would like to replicate)? Are these settings that pertain to my applications, which may not link up with the newly installed (un-migrated) applications and then cause problems? Or are these things like internet settings, which I've already gotten in place and working for the new machine?
So the big question is: what "settings" are these and will they overwrite or interfere with anything that I already have set up on the new machine?

what "settings" are these and will they overwrite or interfere with anything that I already have set up on the new machine?
Using Migration Assistant, all of your settings will be transferred: system settings, application settings, even .ds_store files: your windows will all be in the same place as they are on your other machine; your custom icons will still be there, your file structures, your desktop picture, your passwords, pretty much everything.
If you use Migration Assistant on the initial setup, the account you transfer from your old machine will be the main admin account on the new machine. If you wait and use Migration Assistant after the initial setup, a new account will be created to contain the migrated data.

  • Pb with migration assistant

    Hello,
I try to install a new Macbook Pro with Migration Assistant.
I connect the Ethernet cable between macbook pro Lion (Source) and macbook pro Lion (Target) and i start.
When i arrived on the screen Transfer Information to this Mac, i select "From another Mac" and i launch Migration assistant in the source.
The target view the source but source can't view target.
I have always "looking for another computer" and nothing.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
Sorry for my mistake with Pb, I'm frenchman and it's the first time I write a post..And sorry if my english is not correct... If you understand me...it's perfect
So, in the Pondini's Setup New Mac,(thank you very munch for that) he wrote :
Usually, the best way is to use Setup Assistant, when you first start up your new Mac.  It will set the new Mac up just like the old one:  all configuration, settings, users and data, and all applications (except newer versions already installed).
    I make that, but nothing.
So I select "Do not transfer the know", and when I created the user, I do not choose the same as the source, otherwise there are a problem with migration assistant. and after, I used Migration Assistant to install all applications, configurations...But I think it isn't normal.
Today, i will  try to install a new Mac with Time Machine.
    Thanks for your help

  • Insufficient space for importing TM backup with migration assistant

First of all this is not for my main Mountain Lion installation on my Mac Pro, it is on a VM Ware Fusion virtual Mountain Lion installation that is running on my Mac Pro also running Mountain Lion. So this is really more a question dealing with VM Ware Fusion (or Parallels since I have the same issue with that as well) vs. a problem with Mountain Lion. Confused yet? I sure am....
I am trying to import a time machine backup of my previous Snow Leopard drive into my virtual machine. I did not want to import this into my new drive because I am starting fresh and trying to clean up and Snow Leopard had 10 years worth of crus I am trying to get rid of, but I would still like to have my old SL drive running within VM Ware to help with the transition. I have a Mac Pro with a dual monitor set up so I want it to run in my second monitor and very slowly over the next few weeks get all the files I want and need instead of just importing a bunch of useless crap.
Anyway, here is the problem I am having and cannot seem to get past this hurdle. When I open migration assistant inside VM Ware ML  and choose my time machine backup of snow leopard everything works fine until it finishes calculating the size. I deselected all the files and folder I possibly can which leaves 209GB. Even with every single folder deselcted it still give an insufficient storage error I have already resized the VMware drive to 400GB which is more than enough. In my real machine under Finder>Get Info it shows it as 400GB, but within the virtual machine it is only showing the Mac HD to be 40GB which won't allow migration assistant to import the backup due to insuffient storage.
I have a Mac Pro with tons of disk space so I have plenty of free space to allocate but I have tried everything I can think of but came up blank. Sorry if my explanation was overly verbose or confusing but I wanted to give as much detail as possible. Haven't really fiddled with the settings in VM Ware in a while so I must be missing something.
So, how do you import files showing as larger than 40GB from a time machine backup with migration assistant without getting an error that there is not enough remaining space? And again, I have already resized the disk to 400GB that shows as 400GB on my real machine but only as 40GB inside the VM Ware Mac HD. I also have Parallels if that is easier to do what I am trying to accomplish.

I just solved the problem! And this is actually a pretty big deal because experts at the VM Ware Fusion website and many other forums told me it was impossible.
So here is the guide to running Mountain Lion in VM Ware Fusion or Parallels with a partition larger than 40GB and allows you to import an old user account from Tiger, Snow Leopard, Lion, etc..
    1) Make sure to shut down Mountain Lion in VM
    2) Under VM settings expand hard drive to whatever size you like
    3) You will need either a disk image or an actual DVD of mountain lion, mount that in your VM and choose it as start up. After rebooting open disk utility and partition Mac HD. Instead of only showing the 40GB limit it shold now show the size you created from step 2. Close disk utility and install Mountain Lion as normal. Reboot and unmount disk image.
    4) You now have a virtual Mountain Lion with whatever hard disk size you chose.
    5) Open migration assistant and do your time machine back up as normal from previous systems.
The reason you might want to do this are many. In my case I wanted to have my old Snow Leopard user account open and running on my second monitor since I just did a fresh install on my Mac Pro. It is easy to import audio, photos, videos but there was a lot of other things I want to take my time bringinging over. There are also many cases where I needed to open up an app and view settings. Now I have my old machine essentially running at the same time as my new install side by side which is fantastic.

  • HT4796 Help needed with Migration Assistant, can't find files?

I've just purchased my first Mac (macbook Pro 15in) so please be kind, I'm so clueless it's ridiculous! Using migration assistant  I've transfered aprox 100GB of files from my PC which seemed to take about 2seconds, but have no idea where they are or how to access them. The files were mostly music but when I opened itunes there is nothing in my library. The rest of the stuff was pics, docs, email accounts but none of that seems to be there either.. From the few articles I've read I seem to have somehow created another user account which is labeled Guest User/Sharing only, but I can't seem to log in as that user to find the files.. What have I done?!  HELP!!

    Congratulations!
... Using migration assistant  I've transfered aprox 100GB of files from my PC which seemed to take about 2seconds, but have no idea where they are or how to access them.
It sounds as though Migration Assistant did not do a thing. With Migration Assistant, 100 GB will take time, no matter how the two computers communicate it will be at least an hour. Probably more. I recommend you connect them both to a wired network and make sure the PC is really using it. Wireless will take a lot longer.
I suggest you read the following step by step. On your Windows PC, you will need to download Migration Assistant. That link and everything else you need to know is in this document: OS X Lion: About Windows Migration Assistant. Follow its instructions to the letter.
The "guest" user is a feature of OS X and will not contain your files. Don't concern yourself with it.

  • Transfer emails with migration assistant.

My boss asked me to transfer all his old email from old macpro to his new one. Do i have to set up his email account on iMal first before i transfer them with migration assistant? Or will that set up autmatically while transfering?

On the old Mac. User/Library/Mail. Copy the folder to the new Mac to the desktop. Then on the new Mac from the Finder menu hold down the option key and click on Go. Select Library. Drag the Mail folder from the Library to the trash (don't empty). drag the Mail folder from the old Mac into the Library. Now launch Mail and check to see that all the email is there. If all is well empty the trash.

  • Use new name with Migration Assistant?

I am getting a new dual core iMac and will transfer all my applications, files, and settings using Migration Assistant. I would like to use the same account name and admistrative password on my old computer for my new computer. However, I've heard this could cause problems.
Question: Should I pick a new account name and administrative password for the new computer when using Migration Assistant?

When you migrate your old account you cannot have an account of the same name already on the new computer. When you first setup the new computer create your first account using a different name. Then migrate your old account over. Log into the old account and delete the temporary account.
A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs
If you are migrating a PowerPC system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate. Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3 or G4 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
    Screensavers written for the PowerPC
    System Preference add-ons
    All Unsanity Haxies
    Browser and other plug-ins
    Contextual Menu Items
Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5
    Kernel extensions
Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries
See also What Can Be Translated by Rosetta.
In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers. These versions are not universal binaries and will not work on Intel-Macs. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the only current choice is USB Overdrive. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior (does not work), TechTool Pro (does not work), SuperDuper (newest release works), and Drive Genius (untested) may not work properly on Intel-Macs. The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries.
Before migrating or installing software on your Intel-Mac check MacFixit's Rosetta Compatibility Index.

  • Problems with Migration Assistant in Leopard-

Hi - I did see someone else with a similar problem, but thought I'd be able to avoid these snafus by migrating between two PPCs. Alas!
I tried to transfer all my files, programs and settings between my used eMac and a second hand iMac G5 I had thought to upgrade to. Migration Assistant seemed to insist that I create a second account in order to proceed with the migration. At first, I thought I'd lost a lot of my programs, but now I see that they are actually there and working in the second account. On the other thread, I read that people with this problem should restore their new or newer machine to its factory settings, then do the migration over. That way, we can avoid setting up two identities for the same person. In my case, the seller of the iMac is sending me an install disc of Leopard. Can I use this to get back to the factory settings, more or less? And how would I do it?
I do know how to do an install-in-place, having done a couple of them. But clearly more is required here. I don't mind messing around with my machines to a degree, but I'm not a techie, really, and I'm also quite cautious generally. My whole life is on the eMac, so my priority is keeping it in good shape while transferring info to the iMac.
What I'd ultimately want to end up with - assuming I decide to upgrade to the iMac - is one administrator account, not two, with access to all my old files, settings and programs and also the newer programs the seller provided. Can I use the Leopard install disc to get there?
Oh - two more things. I cannot open iTunes on the working (second) account on the iMac. Also, none of my mail messages transferred over. Is there a way to get them to transfer?
Thanks very much, and sorry for all the questions!
    Mary

I HATE migration assistant! Just spent three hours trying to move stuff from my eMac, and I am now listed as the only user - but I have the same problems I had the first time around, only, this time, it might be worse. None of my files were moved into the current "music", "movies", "documents" folders. In order to find them, I have to dig into the hard drive, find my saved data, and then go to users and documents. Not all of my programs transferred, either, and one or two of them acted odd when they did. The most serious thing is that my novel is again missing on the iMac, and I again had to re-license Scrivener. Only this time it's really gone, all but three chapters. Grrr!
It's a good thing I am a cautious person and had no intention of passing the eMac on unless/until I could really use the iMac. Well, if I can't get my most important files over seamlessly, and if the machine can't access them without a lot of clicking and dragging, the iMac is no use to me.
I know I have a lot of info on the eMac - altogether, close to 8 years of stuff. But there has got to be a way to get it over to the iMac without losing data, programs, passwords, etc. I just don't understand this!
What I did - did an erase and install of Leopard a second time, because, if you don't use setup assistant to migrate, you seem to be stuck with two identities. Then followed the steps and opened the window and turned on a fan behind my computers - and waited, and waited, and waited, waking the iMac up occasionally when it went to sleep. Reinstalling Leopard took less than an hour, but this file transfer took nearly three. And it's a total mess, again. I'm really, really fed up, and am at the point of just sticking with the eMac and lending the iMac to the library. This just shouldn't be so hard!
(And this sort of thing is why I don't like Leopard. ))

  • HT4889 can I choose which applications to transfer with migration assistant?

I do not want to transfer all my applications from my old Mac Book Pro.  (like Toast or DVD Studio since there is no DVD burner and other apps that I don't use)
Is there a way to customize the transfer to pick just the Applications I want using Migration Assistant or something else?

It will transfer ALL applications except the older versions of the standard apps. Just delete them after the transfer.

  • HT4191 My Contacts Journal Professional CRM Journal crashes at the initial seconds of iCloud Migration. Has anybody with this application experience this situation. The developer has been contacted.

    Dear Contacts Journal Support Team,
Each time i have been trying what you put up for me,i always delete The Application Completely, then go to iTune Apps Store to re-download it. I know the apps store will not give me an old version, that is why i do not use my Mac or iMac to replace the application however this has also been updated on my Macs.
I reiterated in my message yesterday that,it is not that what you asked me to do is not working or i did not follow your instructions into details. I did follow every steps you stated.
The end result is that, WHEN IT REACHES DATA MIGRATION,THE SCREEN WILL BE BLACK OR LIGHT BLUE BLACK,WITH A WHITE SCROLLING LINE THREAD ON THE DEVICE SCREEN,MEANING MIGRATION IS ABOUT TO TAKE PLACE. THIS WILL MOVE FOR ABOUT 2 or 3SECONDS,AND IT WILL CRASH.
I have tried this several time,i do not mind starting all over again,i just want it to work with iCloud. We can give you feedback, and i praise your effort for not getting tired to respond. This is a good and real customer service assistance of which i really appreciate.
My devices are up-to-date,and the application i download is the latest version.
Please let's makes this application work, there is non like it on The Apps Store. So you should be proud of your work and your innovation which i see as very powerful as well as extremely useful. But when it becomes unworkable it render all my eulogies to your effort meaningless.
Thanks for contacting me again and i hope you will make it work again. Please forget about my previous DATA,i want to start it NEW. But you can not turn ON & OFF even the iCloud on Contacts Journal.
    Thanks a LOT.

Thanks. Can you confirm this step:
    - make sure all devices are updated to iOS6.1, and running the latest version of the app (3.3) [you can check if you have the latest version of the app by going to the App Store on your device, then checking the Updates section to see if you see any update for CJournal]
    - Another way to check is when you open CJournal, go to More -> Contact Us -> About page -> it should show the current app version.
This is very important. If you are running the previous version of the app (3.2.1), then this crash will definitely happen on iOS6.1. You need to upgrade the CJournal app to the latest. After updating the app, you will have to follow the same steps as before, including cleaning up the iCloud database.

Thanks. We just sent you an email an hour before you sent this one!! It had instructions on how to overcome this particular problem "Cannot sync since another device is syncing at the same time". It doesn't look like you followed those instructions at all.
This is our detailed feedback, so please read and follow them closely::
    - you can only get this message when you are trying to sync to iCloud with CJournal. It means that something else got stuck while syncing with iCloud before, and it needs you to clean up the iCloud database for CJournal (as previously instructed, and repeated below)
    - there is no hope for us to recover your previous data. The best we can do is to get the app working again with iCloud, by cleaning up your iCloud data for CJournal
    - your old data was previously wiped out when you cleaned up the iCloud database without backing it up. There isn't any chance that we can recover that. Maybe the Apple iCloud engineers can restore that for you (though I doubt it). If they do, then let us know and we can figure something out.
Meanwhile, follow these instructions for resetting your iCloud data:
    - make sure all devices are updated to iOS6.1, and running the latest version of the app (3.3) [you can check if you have the latest version of the app by going to the App Store on your device, then checking the Updates section to see if you see any update for CJournal]
    - make sure to turn off iCloud sync option in CJournal, on all devices
    - To clean out your iCloud database, you have to go to the Settings app -> iCloud -> Storage and Backup -> Manage Storage -> Documents and Data -> Show All -> look for Contacts Journal. (if you don’t see it, then look for “icloud” with a blank white icon). Here, press the Edit button, then the Delete All button. This will clean out your iCloud database. Note that it will take a few minutes for your data to be deleted from your other devices, and you shouldn’t try syncing any of your devices to iCloud in the meantime.
    - Now restart all your devices by powering them down, then power them back up again.
    - Now, wait 5-10 minutes for the delete to go through
    - On one of your devices, with the latest data, turn on iCloud. If it gives an initial message saying "iCloud data already exists", then press Cancel. It means it hasn't updated from iCloud that you deleted the data. You'll have to open the Settings app and go to the same Show All page again, just so the device tries to connect to iCloud again.  Wait a few minutes before trying to enable iCloud again.
    - After it's done transferring the information to iCloud, wait a few minutes, then connect your 2nd device to iCloud and let it connect with the existing iCloud data. If it gives a message saying "First Time iCloud Sync", then press Cancel.  It means it hasn't detected the data you just uploaded from iCloud yet. Try again in a minute.
Please follow these instructions closely. Let me know any instruction isn't clear to you.
    Regards.

    Dear Contacts Journal Support,
I am so disappointed as you have not deem it right to make a follow up enquiry about my problems of which you were aware about all my Troubles.
I keep you inform of all my efforts with apple iCloud Department and what i was told.
I did not delete any of my files from Contacts Journal from my iCloud Account as one of my iPhone 4S still contains a 75% of some of my data. This device has been switched off since. Any attempt i made to use iCloud  on contact journal always comes up with a message i have related to you in my former message that: Contacts Journal encounter a SYNC problems from iCloud and that 2 devices can not be Sync at the same time; while all other devices are actually switched off.
I am sending this Note now as the time limit given to me by iCloud Team will expire tomorrow. As i have said, this application has beautiful features but to make it work and Sync with either iCloud or Dropbox is a problems.
I mean, about 8 devices can not have these problems at a go while other applications link with either iCloud or Dropbox are working on all these Devices. I can list all these for you if require as apple iCloud Team do check this as well.
The iCloud restoration you sent me does not work, but i think this has teach me a great lesson as not to rely fully on an application like this anymore. I count my loss,my time and STRESS,i can not but let you know how i feel and my pains, frustrations and disappointments on this application.
I have been using this application since it has been introduced,i know all the ups and downs, but not like this.
I hereby appeal to you to sort out this PROBLEMS: "PROBLEM WITH iCloud SYNC: can not sync since another device is syncing at the same time: please wait and try again."
The iCloud button will not even switched on.
I look forward to hear from you.

You can also go through the iCloud reset process again. That should get everything back in order again with iCloud. But there is no way to restore your old data unfortunately, since the Delete All wiped it out.
Instructions for resetting your iCloud data:
    - make sure all devices are updated to iOS6.1, and running the latest version of the app (3.3)
    - turn off iCloud sync option in CJournal is it is enabled on any device
    - On your device with the latest data, turn on iCloud.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi,
Regardless of what Apple technicians say, the simple fact is this:
    - you went and did Delete All for your iCloud data ... now all your iCloud data is gone. There's no way to bring it back. We certainly don't have the power to bring it back; maybe Apple technicians do. Have you asked them about this?
    - your only hope is to restore your device using an iCloud backup, from before you did the Delete All. That might restore your data to a previous state. We sent you this link again: http://apple.stackexchange.com/a/75394/11236
If the Apple technicians can help you through this process, that would be even better.
There is honestly nothing we can do at this point. There's no bug to fix. The problem is you did a Delete All of your iCloud data, without making a backup first. If you had a backup of your data, we could be able to help you, but that data is nowhere right now.
    Regards.

No, not at all,The apple Technicians did run series of Test on both my account and The Application. It was conclusive that the application is not communicating both with devices as well as iCloud Proactively, this is one of The Application i personally rated 5 Stars and both iPad and The iPhone ones i have never made any complaint.
I gain nothing from spoiling another persons Job and effort. But when something needs to be repair,i think it need to. It crashes on my 4 iPads and all my iPhone series.
Please apple has the conclusion, you are the one who can fix it. Apparently my screen was shared because they can see through all my efforts since last Night.
I am very DISAPPOINTED... For now i am looking towards your end to get it fix. Apple policy still remains on Third Party's Application.
Looking forward to hear from you.
    Many Thanks,

Thanks for the update. We would love to fix the problem for you. Unfortunately, since you deleted all the iCloud data without creating a backup first, there's not much we can do from our end. I wish we had some control over this. The best option really is to look for your iCloud backups, and try to restore your data to your iCloud backup. Did you discuss this with the iCloud technicians from Apple? I'm sure nothing was wrong with their iCloud system per se, but did they focus on recovering your data (after you explained the problem to them in detail)?
At the moment, the only hope we have is to restore one of your devices from an older iCloud backup. You probably want to do this in the next day or so, otherwise it might get lost. This might have been something that I was hoping an Apple technician would be able to walk you through.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards.

    Hello There,
i have just finished or apple has just finished with me now,and i was opportune to be attended to by one of apple most senior iCloud Engineer or Technician. We were on this problems for couples of hours, apparently they could detect all my logins through out the night on this application. It was concluded that nothing is wrong with my iCloud account neither with iCloud in general as all my other applications is working fine.
What this implies now is that they i.e. apple engineers refer me back to you as the developer of this application. The application is not communicating with device as well as to have a good Synchronisation with iCloud.
They asked me to inform you that i have suffered as an elderly man through out the night and up till now nothing can be done from their end. They want you to look into the application and that    it will be monitor from their end for the next couples of Days as if i or others will get all their Documents stored in the iCloud.
The Senior Technicians might get inn contact with you if there is NO remedy to this gruelling and gruesome situation that this application has put and expose me to since 17:00 Hour yesterday evening.
I will hereby advocate for an improvement and utmost adjustment to this BEAUTIFUL APPLICATION. I know it can be made to work without any stress and PLEASE DO IT.
    MANY THANKS,
    The Reverend Canon Dr. IBITOYE.

    Hi,
At this point, I don't think Time Machine backups would help. The only thing that might be possible is if you are backing up your iPhone or iPad to iCloud. You can check this in the Settings app -> iCloud -> Storage and Backup -> is iCloud Backup turned On? It will also show you the Last Backup under the "Backup Now" button.
If this is on, you can try to restore one of your devices to this backup version. You can follow these instructions: http://apple.stackexchange.com/a/75394/11236
You might also want to consult an Apple Genius bar if you have an Apple store close-by or if it's convenient for you to do this over the phone.
Hope this helps. Really hope you can recover this data.
    Regards.

    Hi,
Thanks for your email. Were you using iCloud sync? When did you upload these missing documents? Do you use multiple devices ... if so, which device did you use to upload the documents? Did you use the "Transfer over WiFi" method, or did you use "Open In" from a different app?
Let us know and we can see if there's any way we can help.

FYI, this is a user to user support forum.  You are NOT addressing Apple here.
Honestly, I doubt anyone is really going to take the time to read the novel you have written.

  • I cannot find the Firefox Start page with the Sync Set Up Link

I'm trying to get the Sync code on my android device in order to retrieve all my bookmarks from my main computer to the tablet pc. The directions on the Mozilla support site say to "Tap the Set up Firefox Sync button on the Firefox Start page." Well I cannot for the life of me find this button or the Firefox start page. Where could it possibly be? My tablet pc, when operating Firefox, does not bring up any such page with said button.
