Script for Checkboxes & Fields
Hi Friends - I have a question that has been bother me for awhile...
Can you write a script that says "If checkbox A is checked & checkbox B is unchecked, then field C is visible & field D is hidden"?
I've tried several times unsuccefully to get a script to do this. I appreciate the help!
P.S. I'm using Adobe Pro XI
Yes you can, but the specific script and the best place to put it depend a bit on what type of fields C and D are. It also depends on what should happen if both A and B are checked or unchecked, or A is checked and B is unchecked. In other words, what should happen for each possible combination of A and B?

Custom calculation script for checkboxs
Hello,
Can anyone help me out with custom calculation script for this? I have two mutually exclusive checkboxes that, when checked, I want to populate data into other text fields.
If Checkbox1 is checked:
Company1=Warehouse Alpha
Address1=1234 Any Street
City/State/Zip1= Los Angeles, CA 90020
Contact Name1= Mr. Nice Guy
Phone Number1= 213-854-8565
Email1=[email protected]
If Checkbox2 is checked:
Company2=Warehouse Beta
Address2= 5678 Awesome Blvd.
City/State/Zip2= San Bernardino, CA 96545
Contact Name2= Mr. Handsome
Phone Number2= 909-824-8265
Email2=[email protected]
Thanks,
BryanSo one has two check boxes and one wants them to be mutually exclusive. Name them the same and change the export value of the field. Try it and observe what happens as you check the different check boxes.
You have described what happens if either box is checked but what happens when a checked box Is unckecked?
One can place scripts in many locations. I would use a mouse up action for both the check boxes, use the same script for both check boxes.
I would assume you are using the following names for the fields to populate:
Company
Address
CityStateZip
ContactName
PhoneNumber
Email
// Mouse up action for both check boxes;
// initial value for the fields:
this.getField("Company"),value = "";
this.getField("CityStateZip"),value = "";
this.getField("ContactName"),value = "";
this.getField("PhoneNumber"),value = "";
this.getField("Email"),value = "";
// test for check box value for selected box;
if(event.value == 1) {
this.getField("Company"),value = "Warehouse Alpha";
this.getField("CityStateZip"),value = "1234 Any Street";
this.getField("ContactName"),value = "Los Angeles, CA 90020";
this.getField("PhoneNumber"),value = "213-854-8565";
this.getField("Email"),value = "[email protected]";
if(event.value == 2) {
this.getField("Company"),value = "Warehouse Beta";
this.getField("CityStateZip"),value = "5678 Awesome Blvd.";
this.getField("ContactName"),value = "San Bernardino, CA 96545";
this.getField("PhoneNumber"),value = "Mr. Handsome";
this.getField("Email"),value = "[email protected]";
// end Mouse up action for both check boxes; -
Script for Required fields acting strange on extra spaces at end of Name/Description
Found this script on this forum, which I added to my submit button.
var emptyFields = [];
for (var i=0; i<this.numFields; i++) {
var f= this.getField(this.getNthFieldName(i));
if (f.type!="button" && f.required ) {
if ((f.type=="text" && f.value=="") || (f.type=="checkbox" && f.value=="Off")) emptyFields.push(f.name);
if (emptyFields.length>0) {
app.alert("Error! You must fill in the following fields:\n" + emptyFields.join("\n"));
Great script but the ERROR! popup was not coming up until I went into InDesign and removed extra spaces after "(g)" Description and Names.
I am new at this, can someone let me know of any rules for naming these fields such as using underscores, or any other illegal chacters.Jeff,
The SQL in the script file is below. To be honest, I have reduced it down to a simple select from dual and it still puts extra spaces at the end of the single line.
col ord noprint
spool test.csv
SELECT ' ' ord,
'ZONE_ORDER_NUMBER'||','||
'ZONE_NAME'||','||
'ZONE_TYPE'||','||
'DESCRIPTION'||','||
'START_DATE'||','||
'END_DATE'
FROM dual
UNION ALL
SELECT zone_name ord,
'"'||zone_order_number||'"'||','||
'"'||zone_name||'"'||','||
'"'||zone_type||'"'||','||
'"'||description||'"'||','||
'"'||TO_CHAR(start_date,'DD-MON-YY')||'"'||','||
'"'||TO_CHAR(end_date,'DD-MON-YY')||'"'
FROM zones
ORDER BY ord;
spool off -
The following script performs some actions related to checking/unchecking of checkboxes.
According to one of the actions, if you uncheck the checkbox all the entered data in the related text fields will be deleted but this is not the case. Can you check what should I improve in the code ?
Check1::change(javascript,client)-------------
if(this.rawValue == 1 && form1.page1.obs.obstacle.DropDownList1.mandatory=="error" &&
form1.page1.obs.obstacle.DateTimeField1.mandatory=="error" &&
form1.page1.obs.obstacle.TextField1.mandatory=="error")
form1.page1.obs.obstacle.DropDownList1.mandatory="disabled"; /// if Quotation is checked
form1.page1.obs.obstacle.DateTimeField1.mandatory="disabled";
form1.page1.obs.obstacle.TextField1.mandatory="disabled";
form1.page1.obs.obstacle.DropDownList1.rawValue=null;
form1.page1.obs.obstacle.DateTimeField1.rawValue=null;
form1.page1.obs.obstacle.TextField1.rawValue=null;
else
form1.page1.obs.obstacle.DropDownList1.mandatory="disabled"; /// if Quotation is checked
form1.page1.obs.obstacle.DateTimeField1.mandatory="disabled";
form1.page1.obs.obstacle.TextField1.mandatory="disabled";Just a guess but try setting the text field's rawValue to "" instead of null. If that doesn't work, make sure your script is actually entering that section of the if statement, that's a lot of conditions, and I know when I use a lot if conditions sometimes the logic that makes sense when looking at it doesn't work exactly as I planned. Also make sure you aren't getting any errors in the JavaScript console (Ctrl-J).

Creating a script for Date Field
Hello,
I am new to Adobe Live Cycle and I am struggling with creating an action that will populate multiple fields.
Example
I have a Report Date 1FEB and 3 FEB End Date
Day 1 1FEB
Day 2 2FEB
Day 3 3FEB
I would like the user to be able to select the report date and day 1, 2, 3 etc will auto populate with the report date +1+2+3So I figured it out on my own. Posting for anybody that might be looking for the same thing..
Table1[0].Row1[0].Date1.rawValue = Num2date(Date2Num(Date1.formattedValue, "MMM D, YYYY") +0, "MMM D, YYYY")
Table1[1].Row1[0].Date2.rawValue = Num2date(Date2Num(Date1.formattedValue, "MMM D, YYYY") +1, "MMM D, YYYY")
Table1[2].Row1[0].Date3.rawValue = Num2date(Date2Num(Date1.formattedValue, "MMM D, YYYY") +2, "MMM D, YYYY")
Table1[3].Row1[0].Date4.rawValue = Num2date(Date2Num(Date1.formattedValue, "MMM D, YYYY") +3, "MMM D, YYYY")
Table1[4].Row1[0].Date5.rawValue = Num2date(Date2Num(Date1.formattedValue, "MMM D, YYYY") +4, "MMM D, YYYY")
Table1[5].Row1[0].Date6.rawValue = Num2date(Date2Num(Date1.formattedValue, "MMM D, YYYY") +5, "MMM D, YYYY")
Table1[6].Row1[0].Date7.rawValue = Num2date(Date2Num(Date1.formattedValue, "MMM D, YYYY") +6, "MMM D, YYYY") -
In Acrobat, I wrote a script to turn fields gray if a checkbox was checked. How can I get it to reset to white (or clear) when the reset form button is clicked?
Thank you so much for your reply . . . but . . . I should have shared my original script with you -- it was a little more complicated than I led you to believer. I was triggering a group of text fields to become disabled as well as gray. Below is the original script so that when the checkbox is checked, it causes several "Co" fields to be disabled and gray.
// Mouse Up script for check box
// If checked, certain fields should be disabled
var f_prefix = "Co";
// Get a reference to all of the "Co" fields
var f = getField(f_prefix);
// Reset the Co fields
resetForm([f_prefix]);
if (event.target.value === "Off") {
// Enable the Co fields
f.readonly = false;
f.fillColor = color.transparent;
} else {
// Disable the Co fields
f.readonly = true;
f.fillColor = color.gray;
To recap -- my goal is to get those gray fields to revert to transparent if the form is reset. I'm willing to create my own custom "Reset Form" button but I'm not sure I understand how that would look. Wouldn't it be quite lengthy? I think I'm having a brain freeze -- can't figure it out! -

Script for validating Text fields or numeric fields
I'm looking for a simple script that will check the entered data in a specific field.If i enter numbers in the name/last name field i should get a pop up message that entering numbers in this field are not allowed.
(And vice versa regarding numeric fields).
What is the script for that ?Hi,
try this:
//var reg = /^\d+$/; // checks whether input contains ONLY digits
var reg = /\d+/; // checks whether input contains digits AND letters
var check = reg.exec(xfa.resolveNode("#subform[0].#field[0]").rawValue);
if (check == null)
app.alert("Everything's fine!");
else
app.alert("Entering digits is not allowed!");
You may want to replace
#subform[0] with the name of the subform the field to check is located in and
#field[0] with the name of the field to check for digits.
Also, you may want to select any of the regular expressions, which fits best your needs. See comment in the above code-fragement for further information.

Script for calculations using checkboxes in PDF form
I have 7 checkboxes, at least one must be checked, but the user may select all. Each one has a value of 800, therefore selecting all seven would give a total of (800 + 800 + 800 + 800 + 800 + 800 + 800). Selecting only two: (800 + 800), etc.
However, the last checkbox is a 50% discount for students.
I'd like the total to have this formula:
(CheckBox1 + CheckBox2 + CheckBox3 + CheckBox4 + CheckBox5 + CheckBox6 + CheckBox7) = x
If CheckBox8 is selected, then x/2.
I've done (CheckBox1 + CheckBox2 + CheckBox3 + CheckBox4 + CheckBox5 + CheckBox6 + CheckBox7) / CheckBox8
but in this way, I only get a value if the CheckBox8 discount is selected. Not everyone will be a student.
Excel, Access, no problem, but I'm new to javascript and pdf forms. Any suggestions?
IsabelTwo things about Acrobat JavaScirpt and forms you should be aware of:
1. Check boxes and radio boxes have a string value of "Off" when there is no selection is made for the field or a field within an exclusionary group of fields, fields with the same name but different export values.
2. One can not divide by zero and expect a reasonable answer. You will get a string returned with a value of "NaN' (Not a Number), "Infinity", or "-Infinity". Those values maybe number types but the numeric field type can not display them and reports a format error. You can check this by setting the field format to 'None'. -
How to write Java script for refering the 1st page text field from 2nd page?

Can you change the checkbox value and the caption fontColor in the same checkbox field?
There was a discussion last March where the discussion creator wanted to change the caption text on a checkbox. And the response used a separate check box to change the fontColor in a different text field.
Is it impossible to manipulate the color of the check mark and the caption in the same field?
It would make something I'm doing a lot easier if it was possible.
Thanks,
ChristinaNot sure how you created the field. In the object library under the custom group there is a Current Date field object. It's basically a text field that has some script behind it. Drop it on your form and instead of setting the runtime property, leave the "Calculation Script" radio button selected. It should display the date as M/D/YY, in the format of the selected locale. If you need to use a different format then you need to change the script that's automatically generated behind the scenes (it'll be in the ready:layout event for the field). BTW, selecting Runtime Property also generates a script, it's just different and formats the date as you see it. Either way you need to modify the script to change it.
If you need help with the scripting, post the format that you want the date in. -
Check for required fields before locking subforms and submitting
Hello,
I have a 5-page form with many questions, to be completed by the original requestor and multiple approvers. What I'm trying to do is have the original requestor's Submit button on p. 3 lock the input on the first three pages, but first check if all those fields have some content. I currently have all the fields on pp. 1-3 set to "Required" in the object properties, but my script still locks them when there's is one empty one. Here's what I have:
//Lock portions of form
Page1.access = "readOnly"
Page2.access = "readOnly"
Page3.access = "readOnly"
//Save document, allow user to change name
app.execMenuItem("SaveAs");
//Submit via e-mail
Submit_REAL.event__click.submit.target = "mailto:[email protected]" +
"?subject=Subject text" +
"&body=Message";
Submit_REAL.execEvent("click");
The automatic check for required fields happens after the pages get locked. I would like the check to stop the process before it locks the pages. Is there any way to check all at once that all "Required" fields on those pages have some content before allowing the script to proceed? I know how to script it to manually check the 50 or so questions on those pages, but I would like to avoid that. Thanks for any help.There are a few problems that I can see from the start. First, your code is going to pick up EVERY node that exists on these pages. Some of those nodes will not have a rawValue, and some will not have an actual name. As an example, you can take your code and create a text field to dump all of the names of the nodes that you get when you pull in all of the nodes this way. Here's an example:
The result:
Now, the question is, do you have a consistent naming convention for your fields that might be empty? That could be text fields, radio button lists, etc. For instance, I always prefix the names of objects in order to more easily keep track of what they are in scripts. Since I'm doing that, I can check the name of the field for tf, nf, rbl, cb, or whatever I have included to make sure that I'm checking an actual field before I check for things like rawValue.
var nodeName = oNodes.item(nNodeCount).name;
if (nodeName.indexOf("tf")>-1 || nodeName.indexOf("rbl") > -1 || /*check other field types*/) {
//insert your code to check for empty answers here
As for your line 7 issue. The syntax problem is that you've put extra parentheses in your if statement. Take out the parentheses that are just before and after the or "||".
*This is my fourth attempt to reply. Something was going on with Adobe/Jive earlier, I suppose. -
How to make checkbox field inactive in the output of ALV report.
Dear All,
I am having one ALV report in whose output there are checkboxes against each record. Example: the output columns of my ALV report are:
Checkbox, Sales Document No, Billing Document No.
Now, my requirement is that if for the Sales Document No there exists any Billing Document No in the output then the Checkbox should be inactive but if the Billing document coloumn is empty for a particular Sales Document No then only the Checkbox field should become active.
Kindly guide me on how to make this checkbox field inactive.
Waiting for your reply.
Warm Regards,
N.JainHello,
Follow the below steps:
1.Define as--> GS_STATUS TYPE SLIS_STATUS,
2.check layout check box fieldname is not initial.
then set the status according to your logical conditions
GS_STATUS-FLG_CHECKBOXES_ACTIVE = 'X'
Hope this would help you.
Let me know your feedback.

How can I enforce automatic spell checking for selected fields of data entered by form users?
I'd like to be able to enforce spell checking of selected fields in the forms that I've created using LiveCycle Designer 8.2 at run time, as opposed to design time. I understand the version LCD 8 has a nifty new spell checker for form designers. But I want to spell check the data entered by users using Acrobat Reader. And I want to enforce the spell checking automatically on selected fields only.
Presently it seems that users filling in my forms, must know how to manually right-click on each field and select "Spell Check" from the resulting dialog box in order to check for spelling errors in the data the user has entered in the form.
I would like to discover a way to enforce spell checking in selected fields, just as I am able to do in forms created using Acrobat Pro. In Acrobat Pro, I can set a property for each field to require spell checking. but that feature seems to be missing in Livecycle Designer.
I've check the Object model for XFA forms hoping that I might find a method I can call with a Javascript, to check spelling based on an event such as onBlur. But I haven't found a spell check method.
Am I missing something simple? Is there a way to set each field to be spell checked when a user is filling in the form using the free Acrobat Reader?
Our users are not sophisticated and requiring them to spell check each field separately just won't cut it...
Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
-David BartholomewHi David,
Two things...
At design time set the locale of the form to one that Acrobat spell checks. For example English (US) and English (UK) locales have spell checkers; however English (Ireland) does not. Check the Warnings tab to see if spell checking is supported for your locale.
If your form locale supports spell checking then you can go to the button script below.
If you form locale does NOT support spell checking then Stephanie has a great work around to force spell checking (http://forums.adobe.com/message/2233945#2233945).
Bring a regular button onto the form and in the click event have the following:
app.execMenuItem("Spelling:Check Spelling");
Which will open the spell checker for all fields. Thanks to Paul for extracting all of the accessible menu items (http://forums.adobe.com/message/1912914#1912914).
Good luck,

Adding a new choice to a checkbox field in a web app - options renumbered
Hi all,
I have been working on a web app today. (for a change...lol!)
I had to add another option to a custom checkbox field in the webapp and I noticed the following:
New options in a checkbox field need to be added to the end of the checkbox list, otherwise the options are renumbered to reflect the new order of items.
I imagine this will affect any web app entry that is already using that checkbox field.
To further illustrate what I mean here is a sample Regions checkbox field with its options:
<input type="checkbox" name="CAT_Custom_197366" id="CAT_Custom_197366_0" value="ACT" />ACT<br />
<input type="checkbox" name="CAT_Custom_197366" id="CAT_Custom_197366_1" value="NSW" />NSW<br />
<input type="checkbox" name="CAT_Custom_197366" id="CAT_Custom_197366_2" value="NT" />NT<br />
<input type="checkbox" name="CAT_Custom_197366" id="CAT_Custom_197366_3" value="QLD" />QLD<br />
<input type="checkbox" name="CAT_Custom_197366" id="CAT_Custom_197366_4" value="SA" />SA<br />
<input type="checkbox" name="CAT_Custom_197366" id="CAT_Custom_197366_5" value="VIC" />VIC<br />
<input type="checkbox" name="CAT_Custom_197366" id="CAT_Custom_197366_6" value="WA" />WA<br />
<input type="checkbox" name="CAT_Custom_197366" id="CAT_Custom_197366_7" value="NZ" />NZ<br />
I needed to add TAS to this list, cos I forgot! (Sorry Tasmania)
When I put it after SA the list looked like this when inserted on an upload page:
<input type="checkbox" name="CAT_Custom_197366" id="CAT_Custom_197366_0" value="ACT" />ACT<br />
<input type="checkbox" name="CAT_Custom_197366" id="CAT_Custom_197366_1" value="NSW" />NSW<br />
<input type="checkbox" name="CAT_Custom_197366" id="CAT_Custom_197366_2" value="NT" />NT<br />
<input type="checkbox" name="CAT_Custom_197366" id="CAT_Custom_197366_3" value="QLD" />QLD<br />
<input type="checkbox" name="CAT_Custom_197366" id="CAT_Custom_197366_4" value="SA" />SA<br />
<input type="checkbox" name="CAT_Custom_197366" id="CAT_Custom_197366_5" value="TAS" />TAS
<input type="checkbox" name="CAT_Custom_197366" id="CAT_Custom_197366_6" value="VIC" />VIC<br />
<input type="checkbox" name="CAT_Custom_197366" id="CAT_Custom_197366_7" value="WA" />WA<br />
<input type="checkbox" name="CAT_Custom_197366" id="CAT_Custom_197366_8" value="NZ" />NZ<br />
So all values after SA got renumbered, which I am sure would have affected the existing data in the webapp.
So I had to do add it to the end of the checkbox list so no existing data was disturbed. The field then inserts on the upload page as follows:
<input type="checkbox" name="CAT_Custom_197366" id="CAT_Custom_197366_0" value="ACT" />ACT<br />
<input type="checkbox" name="CAT_Custom_197366" id="CAT_Custom_197366_1" value="NSW" />NSW<br />
<input type="checkbox" name="CAT_Custom_197366" id="CAT_Custom_197366_2" value="NT" />NT<br />
<input type="checkbox" name="CAT_Custom_197366" id="CAT_Custom_197366_3" value="QLD" />QLD<br />
<input type="checkbox" name="CAT_Custom_197366" id="CAT_Custom_197366_4" value="SA" />SA<br />
<input type="checkbox" name="CAT_Custom_197366" id="CAT_Custom_197366_5" value="VIC" />VIC<br />
<input type="checkbox" name="CAT_Custom_197366" id="CAT_Custom_197366_6" value="WA" />WA<br />
<input type="checkbox" name="CAT_Custom_197366" id="CAT_Custom_197366_7" value="NZ" />NZ<br />
<input type="checkbox" name="CAT_Custom_197366" id="CAT_Custom_197366_8" value="TAS" />TAS
and then reorder the fields manually so they were alpha on the upload form.
An interesting thing to discover today.
Keep it in mind if you are changing the options in a web app checkbox field. Always add new items at the end. Maybe you will need to do a space for any option that is deleted.
Regards,
MaryUnless your doing something fancy with the Numbers Mary it does not matter the re-shifting of the numbers.
Do you see the name and it's data number? That's the one that matters and what the choice data is stored against, that's the actual custom field :p
