Script for dropping aand recreating Database
Please someone tell me that dropping a database in Cluster environment is same as in standalone server? Please let me know asap. If someone know how I would recreate the same database. Thnx
The best way to recreate the database is using te DBCA. In case you are doing it manualy then it depends on:
Case 1:
The ORACLE_HOME and name of the database being created is same as of the database being dropped
- Drop the database (don't delete the init.ora file as you can reuse this if everything is going to be same for the new database)
- Recreate the database or contolfile for the new database.
Case 2:
The ORACLE_HOME and name of the database being created is diferent as of the database being dropped
- Drop the database
- Remove the database from the Oracle Cluster Registry using SRVCTL command.
- Recreate the database or contolfile for the new database.
- Register the database in Oracle Cluster Registry using SRVCTL

Script for getting mail if database is down
Hi Friends,
OS Version : IBM AIX 5,2
Oracle version : 9.2.0.7
I am executing the following script for getting mail alert if database is down. some how the script is not working
check_stat=`ps -ef|grep ${ORACLE_SID}|grep pmon|wc -l`;
oracle_num=`expr $check_stat`
if [ $oracle_num -lt 1 ]
then
exit 0
fi
# Test to see if Oracle is accepting connections
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/sqlplus -s "/as sysdba" > /tmp/check_$ORACLE_SID.ora
select name from v$database;
exit
# If not, exit and e-mail . . .
check_stat=`cat /tmp/check_$ORACLE_SID.ora|grep -i error|wc -l`;
oracle_num=`expr $check_stat`
if [ $oracle_num -ne 0 ]
then
mailx -s "$ORACLE_SID is down!" [email protected] < /tmp/check_$ORACLE_SID.ora
exit 16
fi
I am saving this as .sh file and executing at command prompt. It is just hanging, but not throwing any error.
I would like to know if there is anything to be modified in the script or please provide me any such script. Thanks in advanceHI there.
I have a script I use that works really well. It sends out an email only if the database is down and also reads an ini file to process a blackout period and a priority level of the database... High priority databases are monitored every 5 minutes and Medium priority databases every hour.
There are two scripts, the shell script and the .ini file and I have two cron entries...
Check script:_
#!/bin/ksh
# check_oracle_status.sh
# Script to check if Oracle db's are up and running.
# Script is passed a priority field and reads check_oracle_status.ini
# to determine which db's to check. If db is down an email is sent.
# Priority Levels:
# H - Checks db's with "H"igh Priority every 5 minutes (cron)
# M - Checks db's with "M"edium Priority every hour (cron)
# L - db's with "L"ow Priority currently not checked
# Script Change History:

oracle2:M:17:08
oracle3:M
oracle5:M:17:08
oracle6:H
oracle7:M:17:08
oracle8:M
oracle9:M
Where oracle1,2,3 etc is your sid
L M and H your priority level
17 is blackout start (5 PM)
08 is blackout end (8 AM)
Note: Blackout is just a start hour and an end hour and must contain both or none and my script can only process one blackout per database. I guess if you
needed a second blackout you could add another line with different times for that sid
Cron entries:_
# Check Oracle Status
# The check_oracle_status.sh script monitors "H"igh priority databases every 5 minutes
# and "M"edium priority databases every hour
0,5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,50,55 * * * * /opt/oracle/admin/scripts/check_oracle_status.sh H > /dev/null 2>&1
0 * * * * /opt/oracle/admin/scripts/check_oracle_status.sh M > /dev/null 2>&1
Not sure if you require blackouts or priority levels but this setup works great at our site.
Hope this helps. -
Script for dropping all the tables
Hello:
Can somebody share with me a script that will delete all the tables in a schema?
Thanks.I think what Justin was getting at is this: we cannot drop tables that are referenced by foreign keys. So before we can drop all tables weed to drop all referencing constraints. Which makes this script even more dangerous - you may wish to abort if other schemas reference the "droppee".
Let's be careful out there!
Cheers, APC

RMAN script for hot backup (looking for code critic) code attached.
Hello Guru's,
I have been having soem trouble running a successful hot full rman backup nightly.
We max our CPU load whenever our RMAN takes too long and conflicts with a Legato tape backup. I have a development server that I attempted to get a consistent backup time duration that is rock solid as to not conflict with the Legato backup time.
I just found out about duration with RMAN scripts here is my code:
#!/bin/bash
#rman backup script for daily hot whole database backup
at -f /hd1/rman_scripts/rman_backup 0600 tomorrow
rman target/
run {
allocate channel d1 device type disk format '/path/%U';
backup duration 1:00 partial minimize load database filesperset 1;
backup as BACKUPSET tag '%TAG' database;
backup as BACKUPSET tag '%TAG' archivelog all delete all input;
delete noprompt obsolete;
release channel d1;
exit
It completes the backup, but does not use the 1 hour allocated- it only uses 15 minutes on average and creates many files instead of normally three backup files.
Here is the results from querying the v$rman_status table for operation,status,start_time:
RMAN,FAILED, 17-OCT-06 0600
BACKUP,FAILED,17-OCT-06 0600
RMAN,FAILED,17-OCT-06 0606
BACKUP,COMPLETED,17-OCT-06 0606
BACKUP,COMPLETED,17-OCT-06 0606
BACKUP,FAILED,17-OCT-06 0615
RMAN,COMPLETED,17-OCT-06 1513
REPORT,COMPLETED,17-OCT-06 1513
DELETE,COMPLETED,17-OCT-06 1513
However, the timestamps of the backupset files it creates is:
06:15 and not 1513?????????????
RMAN appears to have only taken 15 minutes to create the files, why do I have a completed timestamp from v$rman_status of 1513???
Please advise and comment, I am just learning RMAN.Try to remove the DURATION option in your script.
Here more details about that part.

Need Help in creating Unix Shell Script for database
Would be appreciable if some one can help in creating unix shell script for the Oracle DB 10,11g.
Here is the condition which i want to implement.
1. Create shell script to create the database with 10GB TB SPACE and 3 groups of redo log file(Each 300MB).
2. Increase size of redolog file.
3. Load sample schema.
4. dump the schema.
5. Create empty db (Script should check if db already exists and drop it in this case).
6. Create backup using rman.
7. restore backup which you have backed up.This isn't much of a "code-sharing" site but a "knowledge-sharing" site. Code posted me may be from a questioner who has a problem / issue / error with his code. But we don't generally see people writing entire scripts as responses to such questions as yours. There may be other sites where you can get coding done "for free".
What you could do is to write some of the code and test it and, if and when it fails / errors, post it for members to make suggestions.
But the expectation here is for you to write your own code.

Script for unmounting/deframenting exchange 2010 database
hi all,
i need a script to unmount exchange 2010 database, defrag it and mount it again.
thanks for any comment you may add...Tried the above commands... works like a charm, but with the following modifications:
1. Delete trash and recoverable items from all mailboxes, run repeatedly
The command using is
Search-Mailbox -Identity "mailbox.name" -SearchDumpsterOnly -DeleteContent
1A. Determining Free Space in Mailbox Database
The command using is
Get-MailboxDatabase -Status | ft name,Availablenewmailboxspace,Databasesize
2.Calculate the disk space to perform the defrag, the formula is
(Databasesize-Availablenewmailboxspace)*1.1
3.Dismount the mailbox database
In EMS, go to the folder contain the database file then use the command
Dismount-Database <DatabaseName>
3A.Copy mailbox database (edb and all related log files) to another location
In EMS, go to the folder contain the database file then use the command
4.Defrag the edb file (eseutil will recreate a temp edb and rename to the new edb after successful complete it will delete the old edb file. If anything goes wrong, it will revert back to the old edb as in the /d)
eseutil /d <file.edb>
5.Mount again
Mount-Database <DatabaseName>
You are advised to purge (step 1) all mailboxes before eseutil or move mailbox, otherwise it will just carry all the sh!t over to the new mailbox anyway. I gave up trying to tally the total mailbox space used, the whitespace avail and the edb file size already.
For example, not sure why there is such a disparity where by I have 30 2GB mailboxe est. at 60GB used, whitespace after mailbox move/eseutil at 95GB, the edb size is 106GB. This is where my older exchange 2003 edb files wins hands down. Better budget more
storage for edb files! I am considering whether it's even worth migrating all to exchange 2010 altogether! The edb files are so damn space hungry even with 3 day retention and 6 day delete with 24/7 maintenance ticked. Exchange 2010 edb beast simply cannot
be tamed.
Personally I find in EMC to online move mailbox faster and more reliable overnight. Furthermore, you can simply create a new database, sort all mailboxes by database, select all of them, follow the wizard to move them all at once, the system simply queues
them to move and complete. Overnight moving is the best, all will be done the next day. -
Shell Script for Startup and Shutdown the database
Hi,
i want Shell Script for Startup and Shutdown the database in Solaries.
could any one can hep me where i can get this script. or send to me to [email protected]
Thanks & Regards,
Gangi reddySHUTDOWN
SHUTDOWN ABORT]
Shuts down a currently running Oracle instance, optionally closing and dismounting a database.
Terms
Refer to the following list for a description of each term or clause:
ABORT
Proceeds with the fastest possible shutdown of the database without waiting for calls to complete or users to disconnect.
Uncommitted transactions are not rolled back. Client SQL statements currently being processed are terminated. All users currently connected to the database are implicitly disconnected and the next database startup will require instance recovery.
You must use this option if a background process terminates abnormally.
IMMEDIATE
Does not wait for current calls to complete or users to disconnect from the database.
Further connects are prohibited. The database is closed and dismounted. The instance is shutdown and no instance recovery is required on the next database startup.
NORMAL
NORMAL is the default option which waits for users to disconnect from the database.
Further connects are prohibited. The database is closed and dismounted. The instance is shutdown and no instance recovery is required on the next database startup.
TRANSACTIONAL [LOCAL]
Performs a planned shutdown of an instance while allowing active transactions to complete first. It prevents clients from losing work without requiring all users to log off.
No client can start a new transaction on this instance. Attempting to start a new transaction results in disconnection. After completion of all transactions, any client still connected to the instance is disconnected. Now the instance shuts down just as it would if a SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE statement was submitted. The next startup of the database will not require any instance recovery procedures.
The LOCAL mode specifies a transactional shutdown on the local instance only, so that it only waits on local transactions to complete, not all transactions. This is useful, for example, for scheduled outage maintenance.
Usage
SHUTDOWN with no arguments is equivalent to SHUTDOWN NORMAL.
You must be connected to a database as SYSOPER, or SYSDBA. You cannot connect via a multi-threaded server. For more information about connecting to a database, see the CONNECT command earlier in this chapter.

Oracle SQL template to create re-usable DDL/DML Scripts for Oracle database
Hi,
I have a requirement to put together a Oracle SQL template to create re-usable DDL/DML Scripts for Oracle databases.
Only the Oracle DBA will be running the scripts so permissions is not an issue.
The workflow for any DDL is as follows:-
1) New Table
a. Check if the table exists from the system/admin views.
b. If table exists then give message "Table Exists"
c. If table does not exist then execute DDL code
2) Add Column
a. Check if Column exists for a given table from system/admin views
b. If column exists in the specified table,
b1. backup table.
b2. alter table to make changes to the column
b3. verify data or execute dml script convert from backup to the new change.
c. If Column does not exist
c1. backup table
c2. alter table to add column
c3. execute dml to populate column with default value.
The DML scripts are for populating base tables with data required for business operations.
3) Add new row
a. check if row exists by comparing old values of each column with new values to be added for the new record.
b. If exists, give message row exists
c. If not exists, add new record.
4) Update existing record (We have createtime columns in these tables so changes can be tracked)
a. check if row exists using primary key.
b. If exists,
b1. deactivate the record using the "active" column of the table
b2. Add new record with the changes required.
c. If does not exist, add new record with the changes required.
Could you please help with some ideas which can get this done accurately?
I have tried several ways, but I am not able to put together something that fulfills all requirements.
Thank you,First let me address your question. (This is the easy part.)
1. The existence of tables can be found in DBA_TABLES. Query it and and then use conditional logic and execute immediate to process the DDL.
2. The existence of table columns is found in DBA_TAB_COLUMNS. Query it and then conditionally execute your DDL. You can copy the "before picture" of the table using that same dba view, or even better, use DBMS_METADATA.
As for your DML scripts, they should be restartable, reversible, and re-run-able. They should "fail gracefully" on error, be written in such a way that they can run twice in a row without creating duplicate changes.
3. Adding appropriate constraints can prevent invalid duplicate rows. Also, you can usually add to the where clause so that the DML does only what it needs to do without even relying on the constraint (but the constraint is there as a safeguard). Look up the MERGE statement to learn how to do an UPSERT (update/insert), which will let you conditionally "deactivate" (update) or insert a record. Anything that you cannot do in SQL can be done with simple procedural code.
Now, to the heart of the matter...
You think I did not understand your requirements?
Please be respectful of people's comments. Many of us are professionals with decades of experience working with databases and Oracle technology. We volunteer our valuable time and knowledge here for free. It is extremely common for someone to post what they feel is an easy SQL or PL/SQL question without stating the real goal--the business objective. Experienced people will spot that the "wrong question" has been asked, and then cut to the chase.
We have some good questions for you. Not questions we need answers from, but questions you need to ask yourself and your team. You need to reexamine this post and deduce what those questions are. But I'll give you some hints: Why do you need to do what you are asking? And will this construct you are asking for even solve the root cause of your problems?
Then ponder the following quotations about asking the right question:
Good questions outrank easy answers.
— Paul Samuelson
The only interesting answers are those which destroy the questions.
— Susan Sontag
The scientific mind does not so much provide the right answers as ask the right questions.
— Claude Levi-Strauss
You can tell whether a man is clever by his answers. You can tell whether a man is wise by his questions.
— Mahfouz Naguib
One hears only those questions for which one is able to find answers.
— Friedrich Nietzsche
Be patient towards all that is unresolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves.
— Rainer Maria Rilke
What people think of as the moment of discovery is really the discovery of the question.
— Jonas Salk
Judge a man by his questions rather than his answers.
— Voltaire
The ability to ask the right question is more than half the battle of finding the answer.

FOR XML to generate dynamic script to drop multiple tables
Log_Table has a column named Col1 where we have table names
Col1
TableA1
TableA2
TableA3
TableB1
TableC1
TableC2
Generate dynamic script to drop tables that are in Log_Table and starts with TableA.
Instead of using the loop, use For XMLThanks Visakh16 [+1],
you are right there was typo mistake :-) I forgot the variable in the end, and Thanks Naomi [+1],
this is true and better to use quotename or just add brackets. Actually I will not choose this approach since we chould use schema as well. the DDL in the OP is not something that I will create probably.
In any case, here is the fixed query (current approach):
declare @SQLString NVARCHAR(MAX)
SELECT
@SQLString = (select
N'IF OBJECT_ID (N''' + CAST([Col1] AS VARCHAR(MAX)) + N''') IS NOT NULL drop table [' + CAST([Col1] AS VARCHAR(MAX)) + N']; '
FROM Log_Table
WHERE (Col1 like 'TableA%')
FOR XML PATH (''))
--print @SQLString
EXECUTE sp_executesql @SQLString
GO

Thanks & Regards,
Praful KawajiYou have Database Control.
Database Control can already do this.
Why do you want to remain in the Stone Age and continue to use scripts?
Why do you want to reinvent the wheel, when the functionality is already there.
Agreed, you would have to read documentation and/or help text, and you rather don't want to do that.
Which is the exact cause why you want to reinvent the wheel, and pay Larry for functionality you don't use.

Alter table script for wrong database version
When we generate an alter table script by connecting to a database, the scripts that get generated are for database version 7.3.
Furthermore we cannot update the field "oracle version" for the database we created.
When we choose a database version from the pulldown box and try to save it, the field is blank again.
We are on Designer 9 on a oracle 10g database and we try to alter the table in a oracle 10g database.I had this error last night while applying a patch to 6.0. However in my case the version was 21 versus a required version of 23.
As far as i know 6.1 is not compatible with the 5 db schema, so you will need an update / migration plan for the db also. -
EEM Scripting for error and drop counters
Hi,
We want to check the following counters for drops every 5 minutes and generate an alarm if a certain threshold of errors (example: increment of 100 in the error/drop counters in the last 5 minutes) is overcome:
My sample script is inline, i'm missing how to parse and generate the alarm if the threshold is surpassed:
Example command:
SPLAB_7600_3#remote command module 4 show platform hardware drops | include Selene|drp
------ Selene 0 Channel 0 ------
Selene Ingress Drop Counters Ch[0]
Selene Egress Drop Counters Ch[0]
egr_tot_fifo_drp_ctr 25
Selene Drop Counters
------ Selene 1 Channel 0 ------
Selene Ingress Drop Counters Ch[0]
Selene Egress Drop Counters Ch[0]
Selene Drop Counters
