Script Keepalive with Passive UDP Services

When sending a script keepalive (socket connect) to a passive UDP service (snmp, syslog, etc.), it doesn't appear that the CSS will recognize an ICMP Port Unreachable response as being associated with the socket. Is this correct, or am I missing something?

The optional use-output keyword on CSS script keepalive allows the script to parse the output for each executed command. This optional keyword allows the use of grep and file direction within a script. You can configure a maximum of 16 script keepalives (out of a maximum of 255 script keepalives) to use script output.
I have one application which CSS will consider it is alive only when the two keepalive (one is the tcp on port 20100, another one is the http page) are both alive. I am running out of the "16" quota when I use scipt to show both individual service alive by using grep -u Alive.
How can I circumvent this "16" limitation.
Appreciate your thoughts and help.

why don't you create a single script that checks the tcp port 20100 and the http page instead of creating 2 separate kal and another one to check the status of the other 2.

CSS: How does DNS Scripted Keepalive (ap-kal-dns) work?

I have a question about how does DNS Scripted Keepalive (ap-kal-dns) work on CSS 11503.
According to the "Using the CSS Scripting Language",

Since we just want to see if the DNS server is alive we will send a simple DNS Query. This query is hard coded in hexadecimal and sent raw to the DNS server.

but it also says
Failure Upon: 1. Not resolving the host's IP from the domain name
And according to the "How to Configure the CSS to Load Balance DNS Servers and Use the DNS Scripted Keepalives",

The script is hard-coded to resolve www.cisco.com. It does not matter if the DNS server can resolve this address or not, as long as a DNS response comes back that the service is alive. This keepalive is only testing if a DNS server can respond to a query, not if it can resolve a specific name. The script queries from the CSS to DNS internal servers keep track of the availability of the DNS servers.
but it also says
Access to Internet Domain Name System Root Servers is required for successful implementation of DNS scripted keepalives.
So I am confused whether DNS server has to resolve the host's IP address correctly for DNS query received from CSS or just needs to reply any response but not need to resolve it.
I would like to recap about my question.
Q1: Does DNS Scripted Keepalive (ap-kal-dns) send DNS query with cisco.com as DNS name by default?
Q2: Does DNS server has to resolve IP address of cisco.com or just need to respond for DNS query with any response but not need to resolve IP address of cisco.com?
I understand I should get capture data and see how DNS scripted keepalive works, but I can not prepare lab environment to do it at the present.

yes the query is for www.cisco.com and the script expect a reponse that contains the word cisco.

Scripted Keepalive Problem

I've run into an issue with a new scripted keepalive. I've created the script and copied it to a CSS11000. I can run the script manually and it works as expected, however when I add it to a service, it is not run. After the service is activated, the service shows down, and the following information is shown for the script:
Script Error: None (suspended)
Script Run Time: Did not finish
I know I've run into similar issues when upgrading the CSS code. After restoring archived scripts within the new version, I'd have to reboot the CSS before I could use them in keepalives.
I'd prefer not to have to reboot my production switches if there is another way to get this to work.

I am quite backlevel on this particular pair of CSS's. I loaded the newest code on a CSS in the lab and did not have this problem.
Looks like I need to schedule an upgrade for the production boxes.

Problem with a Web Service execution of a Matlab converted program

Hello,
I need my Java Web service to call a program developed in Matlab. I've created a C++ shared library from my test.m file using the cpplib wrapper, with the following command: mcc -W cpplib:libtest -T link:lib test.m
I've then created another file which I called another.cpp to use the shared library. I've done so using the following two commands:
g++ -c -I/usr/local/matlab/extern/include -I. another.cpp
g++ -O -o another another.o -L. -ltest
Until this point, everything is ok and I've obtained my compiled file "another". However, when I try to execute the file, the system requests for some shared libraries, which should be pointed out through the LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable. Everything works fine changing the variable in the shell. I can execute "another" without any problem. The problem arises when I try to execute the file through my Web Service. I started by developing a script which would export the LD_LIBRARY_PATH and execute "another". The idea was to have the Web Service call the script, but it didn't work. I've tried to solve the LD_LIBRARY_PATH problem by using the following command:
g++ -O -L. -o another another.o -Wl,-rpath=/usr/local/matlab/bin/glnx86 -Wl,-rpath=/usr/local/matlab/sys/os/glnx86,-rpath=. -ltest
This allows me to have an executable "another" with no other shared library needs... However, whenever I compile my "another" with "-Wl...", my Web service just does not execute the file. The problem still remains! Just to be sure, I have executed successfully other c++, using the same compiler, or scripts files from my Web service. But for Matlab programs, I need to use the libraries I referred above in "-Wl".
I've been with this problem for quite a while now, and I still haven't found a way of solving it. Can anyone help me?

Resolved when I create a deployement profile explicitly.
The Webservice.deploy that gets created automatically when I create a web service was giving this issue.

I too am fed up with BT Customer Services - they seem only able to pursue their own script and simply do not listen to what the customer is saying. On numerous occasions they ask a question just seconds after they have received my aswer to that very question.
I have been experencing a particular broadband / exchange line problem for over three years, have kept a detailed log of my dealings with BT for over a year and it appears that there is no way of escalating the issue within BT. Follow 'contact us' and 'complaints' on teh website and see if you can get anywhere other than teh standard customer servoces number. Customer services say they are unable to escalate to a more senior person / department.
'Customer Services' - to me a rather hollow joke, especially as they are in effect a monopoly provider and being paid millions of pounds of taxpayers money to roll out Infinity.
I think the answer either lies with legal action but perhaps if enough of us rais ethe issue with our MP we might be able to more effectively influence what is going on.

Problem with getting a service ticket - ignoring host name?

I've been struggling with this for several weeks on and off. The latest issue I have, is that when I try to obtain a service ticket it replaces the hostname I use with the ip address of the server. This then results in a 'Server not found in Kerberos database' exception.

Your DNS server should have an entry for this host name in its reverse lookup table.

anyway you can disable this rule/monitor as no control from monitoring solution in that case. Or try to rewrite the same monitor...
The problem in your case is when function tries to get Max Server Memory MB by connecting to master DB, but you can replace it with performance counter like Target Server Memory (KB)...

I am having the exact same problem. The SOAPEncoder is adding
an additional tag and the server thinks the envelope is not
properly formatted and therefore does not know what to do with it.
Is there any fix for this yet? Or has it even been reported as a
bug?

Problem with passive mode FTP server and NAT

Hi,
I have a problem with Passive mode FTP and NAT.
I am trying to run both an FTP server and sharing the Internet connection via NAT. I have by the way specified the passive ports to use in ftpaccess (65000-65534). Everything works fine until someone tries to connect via Passive mode. I have tracked the problem down to the firewall and the rule that handles NAT.
Firewall rule config without NAT:
00001 allow udp from any 626 to any dst-port 626
01000 allow ip from any to any via lo0
12300 allow ip from any to any
65535 allow ip from any to any
Firewall rule config with NAT
00001 allow udp from any 626 to any dst-port 626

So, passive ports do not work when NAT is on. If I turn it off, Passive ftp works like a charm.
But how do I solve my problem? I have in my quest for the answer stumbled upon "-punch_fw" but do not know how to use it or if it even helps me at all?

They may also need to edit the .htaccess file to allow the .3gp file extension be used. Call them.

Problem with SNAT UDP

I,ve been trying to run CSS11500 07.40.2.02 one-armed DNAT+SNAT with RTP udp 10000-30000.
I need to nat client ip addresses.

is dropped in CSS (verified)
whithout "portmap disable", works, but the source port of client is natted...

The combination of 'portmap disable' and client-source-nating is not supported.
The reason is that if you disable portmapping, when 2 clients hit the vip with the same source port, the traffic is sent to the server with the same source ip and port. It is therefore not possible for the CSS to identify the client ip when the response from the server comes back.
So do not use one-armed mode or make the CSS the default gateway for the servers.

Scripted Keepalive Library

Does anyone know if a library exists for scripted keepalives? I know that the css comes with 15 scripted keepalives pre-loaded and with the new 5.0 version of software there is a capability for up to 255 keepalives. What I am looking for specifically is a place where css users can post scripted keepalives that they use, that can be used by others in the css community.

I'm not aware of anything like this. The only problem I see with this is that many scripts will be custom and as you may know the TAC does not support custom scripts. In the scenario were a shared script fails to work, TAC will not be able to help.
Also, the 255 keepalives that you are referring is how many scripted keepalives you can run at any given moment. On version 4.0 you can run up to 16 scripted keepalives at any given moment. The limit on how many you can have installed is based on the disk space of your box.

I am having a problem with requesting new service, I am hoping someone with verizon can assist.

We are in transistion to a new home.
Back on 8/9 I registered for service for a temporary residence that I was expecting to be at the time. Unfortunately plans changed at the last minute.
I am now in the final stages of closing on my new home, and will move in on 9/6-9/7.
I have reinitiated a request for Fios online. I followed the prompts selecting my service and everything seemed to be going swimingly. I requested installation for 9/9 8am-12pm. I filled out the online registration.

I did not ever get a confirmation email, and I cannot login to my verizon account. it states as disabled.
I am worried that my service order has not been processed.

Could anyone show me how to file a complaint with Verizon Customer Service?

I would first like to state that this is my first time having an issue with Verizon Customer Service.In all my years of using their service, I had never run into someone that truly had no idea what they were talking about. I would like to file a complaint to save everyone from experiencing the frustration I am feeling and from wasting your time.
Here is the story, so that you can understand the reason why I would like to file a complaint;
My phone has always had an SD Card in addition to the phone memory because my phone memory is already tiny, less than 1 GB.I put things that cannot be put on my SD Card (my text messages, contacts, etc.).
This past week I kept on receiving air messages that my phone memory was full. I deleted most of my text messages but I still received air messages that my phone memory was "full". I therefore decided to call Verizon Wireless to see if they could help me solve my problem or at least educate me on what was taking space in my phone memory.
Well, I unfortunately had the luck of being connected with a representative named "Naima" and I told her about my phone memory problem. She said she knew how to fix my problem and instructed me to click on the "Format SD Card" button. Following her instructions blindly, I never once stopped to consider that clicking on that button would erase everything. And so ALL my pictures, ringtones, and videos were erased.
Trying to fix her mistake she dug herself into a deeper hole. Instead of admitting that she had made a mistake she claimed that my pictures, ringtones, and videos could be recovered, She had me access Backup Assistant, but my stuff was NOT saved there. I later learned that my phone's Backup Assistant can only save contacts, NOT pictures. She knew what phone I had (representatives have all the phone's info and history) yet she led me in circles and wasted my time and could not own up to her mistake.
What upsets me is the fact that she did not even KNOW that the phone memory and SD Card are 2 COMPLETELY DIFFERENT things.And also she could not own up to her mistake, but instead wasted at least an hour of my time trying to get Backup Assistant to do something it could not.
I then attempted to file a complaint to found that Verizon makes it Virtually Impossible to file a complaint, only through MAIL! Really??

Those out of memory messages usually mean internal memory is getting full. I have no idea of your make and model of device but there are many articles via google that tell you how to transfer files from internal memory to sd card memory.
Now on the off chance your sd card is nearing its capacity you can either hook to your computer via usb and the computer will show two drive letters. One is internal memory and the other is the sd card memory. If its internal memory and your sd card is not full you can drag and drop the files to the sd card. However you can also get a card reader and then make a saved files folder on your desktop, then cut and paste any or all movable files to that new folder you just created. its really very easy.
You can also remove files from internal memory (music, photos,documents) to that folder on your desktop. You can also remove all files and photos from the sd card on a regular basis to never have that low memory problem again. I always purchase the largest sd card that is usable on my device and never save anything like music and photos to internal memory.
