Scrubber issue. AS 2, Flash CS 3

Hey there. After following the scrubber tutorial on gotoandlearn I've hit a serious hick-up. Basically instead of scrubbing, if I grab and move my "scrub" it literally just pauses the video, and once I've let go, returns to the beginning?
I've narrowed the problem down to the "scrubit" function and the script for that function but unfortunately can't seem to solve it. Any help out there?
Here's the whole code:
/*loadbar*/
var videoInterval = setInterval(videoStatus,100);
var amountLoaded:Number;
var duration:Number;
ns["onMetaData"] = function(obj)
    duration = obj.duration;
function videoStatus()
    amountLoaded = ns.bytesLoaded / ns.bytesTotal;
    loader.loadbar._width = amountLoaded * 338;
    loader.scrub._x = ns.time / duration * 338;
var scrubInterval;
loader.scrub.onPress = function()
    clearInterval(videoInterval);
    scrubInterval = setInterval(scrubit,10);
    this.startDrag(false,0,this._y,336.6,this._y);
loader.scrub.onRelease = loader.scrub.onReleaseOutside = function()
    clearInterval(scrubInterval);
    videoInterval = setInterval(videoStatus,100);
    this.stopDrag();
function scrubit()
    ns.seek(Math.floor(loader.scrub._x/336.6) * duration);
In bold is what I think the problem is.
Any help, comments are much appreciated.
Luke.

ns.seek(Math.floor(loader.scrub._x/336.6) * duration);
I don't normally deal with video matters so I may be totally off with this, but if the value of loader.scrub._x is less than 336.6 then the Math.floor value will be 0, which will result in ns.seek(0);
What you might intend is...
ns.seek(Math.floor(loader.scrub._x/336.6 * duration));

    Wow. Okay...
    I'll let the real veterans in this forum tackle your issues one after the other. But, I can tell you, all will be well.
    My only comment would be re: your computer specs:

    To be completely honest, FCPX is a RAM hog. It just is. But, RAM is relatively cheap, and the pay-off is good.
    4GB is right on the edge, IMHO. 16G is ideal.
    I wish you luck, hang in there, and standby for more help.

  • Adobe Flash IDE: Migration/Compatibility issues between Adobe Flash Professional CS3 and CS5

    Hi,
    Adobe Flash IDE: Adobe Flash CS3 Professional and Adobe Flash Professional CS5
    I am facing some  migration/compatibility issues between Adobe Flash CS3 Professional and Adobe  Flash Professional CS5:
    I am working on a project that has  been completely developed in CS3 earlier. When I am using CS5 (Flash Player 9 /  Flash Player 10) to compile the FLA files, it is creating some new issues like  some customized radio buttons are getting disappeared while viewing the SWF on a  web page etc.
    So, I would like to  know:
    1) Is there any  migration/compatibility issue between Adobe Flash CS3 Professional and Adobe  Flash Professional CS5?
    2) If yes: Is there any patch  available from Adobe for it?
    3) If no: What could be the causes  and the best possible solutions for it?
    Any help and support would be highly  appreciated. Many thanks in advance!
    Thanks & Regards
    Amit

  • Privacy/Security Issue with Adobe Flash 10

    Not sure if anyone has noticed this or not, but there is a
    bizarre (if minor) privacy/security issue with Adobe Flash Player
    10. I came across it while attempting to upload a file to Flickr.
    Previous versions of AFP do not exhibit this problem.
    Specifics: using Firefox 3.x, Vista.
    The problem: When Flickr calls the "open file" dialogue in
    Flash 10 (in order to upload files) via the "Upload Photos and
    Videos" link, at the bottom of the dialogue, to the right of the
    "File Name" box, sits a common UI element that brings up a dropdown
    menu of what appear to be (or at least are supposed to be) recently
    viewed or downloaded or accessed files. Actually I'm not sure how
    Flash 10 compiles or accesses this list of files, but at any rate,
    a list of files come up.
    The problem is that, as far as I can tell, the list of files
    that come up reference a long list of files, some that are very old
    and that no longer exist, and that there is no way that I can find
    to clear the list. This is a minor security/privacy issue, as
    generally there should be a way to prevent a dialogue from
    displaying a long list of past-accessed files by clearing a cache
    somewhere or other -- imagine if it was impossible to clear the
    history of a web browser, for example -- this would be considered a
    pretty significant privacy issue. I have tried everything from
    flushing the browser cache to uninstalling and reinstalling the
    browser to uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe Flash to using the
    Flash Settings Manager to clear out the Flash saved sites to
    turning off Vista indexing to clearing out Vista's Recent Items
    list. None of these actions did anything to clear out this list of
    files. I can find no references to these files anywhere when I use
    Vista Search (with unindexed and system files searched as well),
    and I can find no reference to the files anywhere in the registry
    (I checked just in case Flash 10 was storing this index in some
    really bizarre place.) I've linked to a screenshot below of what
    I'm talking about -- most of the files listed below were deleted a
    long, long time ago, and so I have no idea why this dialogue refers
    to them.
    Screenshot
    Is there a simple work-around for this that I'm unaware of?
    Even if there is, there needs to be some more obvious way to clear
    out this list. Where is this information being stored, and what
    criteria does this list use to "put a file on the list"?

    Thanks for putting me on the right scent. That's what I'd
    originally thought, too -- it's just that the file-> open dialog
    was giving an entirely different list of files with other
    applications, so I assumed that it must be Flash that was the
    culprit. Turns out the reason it was different with Flickr was
    because it was restricting the file results via a long string of
    video and picture filetypes that are compatible with the Flickr
    service.
    It turns out the information I'm looking for is buried deep
    within the registry. The only way to clear out this list of files
    is to delete the following key (or specific subkeys):
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ComDlg32\OpenSavePidl MRU
    Seems more than a little stupid to store such information in
    the registry if security is your concern. Vista beguiles me
    sometimes.

    Firefox 3.6.23 is experiencing constant freezing and rebooting issues with Adobe Flash Player 11 Plugin, not sure if it is a conflict issue or not.
    Since the update there had been no reported issues till today when the blue screen came up on me, this issue prior to plug in 11 had occurred at least 6 times, this issue only happens on firefox.
    I do not wish to update since recent firefox browsers seem to have a lot of ongoing issues.

    The point is that you're a customer, and the company needs customers, so the individual who's failing to deliver good service needs to be identified so they can be properly trained, and so that problems in the system can also be identified, but more important is that you get the service you're entitled to.

  • Having issues with Adobe Flash player hanging the browser

    Having issues with Adobe Flash player hanging the browser.
    WIN 7 enterprise 32 bit / Firefox 19.0.2 /
    Internal company website keeps giving attached screen shot error, and hangs the browser when error pops up.
    Steps taken:
    Uninstalled Adobe Flash player with the file “uninstall_flash_player.exe”
    Deleted provided directory in instructions
    "Copy and paste the following and click OK.
    C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash
    Delete all the files in this folder."
    Rebooted PC and reinstalled the flash player directly from “http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html”
    Re launched company website and received same error.
    Repeated above steps as well as uninstalled Firefox browser.  Even went so far as to remove all profile information to start fresh from all profiles on the laptop with the same results.
    Note: The web page will work without the flash player plugin, and my page doesn’t hang the browser. Required to open page in FireFox per company policy.

    I'm sorry you're encountering this.  Could you paste a few of the most recent report ID links displayed when you go to "about:crashes" in the Firefox address bar?
    As for workarounds, the first thing I'd suggest is trying our 11.7 labs release which you can get here: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer.html
    If that doesn't help, please try the troubleshooting steps outlined in this FAQ:
    How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?
    In particular, I'd recommend temporarily disabling protected mode (for troubleshooting purposes only) to see if that addresses the issue.

  • 2 Issues with ActionScript/Flash

    Hello, I suppose I'll make this also a little bit of an introduction, I'm a 20something year old Graphic Design graduate, who has found herself working in a small business where everything is done in house. My job skills have had to be stretched a little, as normally my work only involves photoshop, indesign, illustrator, and dreamweaver. I've never used Flash before, but since the company is moving onto digital media and the motorola xoom I've had to pick it up.
    The company I work for has a very large catelog that they put on CD, and they are looking to update it, so I've been making a flash index page for it. The entire catelog is in PDF (bookmarks used as links between various PDF files), but the index page is Flash (I cant acess the origional index file, as it was done several years go).  Basically the elements I'll need are 3 links (for website, install cd catelog, and view cd catelog) 1 exit link, and scrolling text.  So far I've managed to import the links and images and get text on the page, but I've hit a couple major snags.
    1st Issue: Looping the scrolling marquee text. At the top of the index screen I need text to continuously scroll at the top. I tried to find loop codes, but all I found were convoluted tutorials involving 'for' loops and 'for if' loops etc etc and even after reading them several times I have no idea what any of them are saying. I think a lot of these tutorials are made for people who have a basic understanding of flash...I literaly just opened the program today. I was able to figure out the inserting Keyblanks and such so I have text that scrolls across the top screen once (I used tweening for that) but you cant copy or paste, so I'm really at a loss as to how to make the text loop so it continues to scroll across.
    2nd Issue: The installation link has me a bit bothered, mostly because I have no clue where to even begin with this. In the old CD catelogs when you click 'install' the 'instal shield wizard' comes up and downloads to the desktop the entire catelog (the cd catalog itself) and a link to the website. Both of which show up as Buttons on the desktop. So one of the links has to be able to do that...and I am entirely at a loss as to how this works in Flash. Is this type of thing even doable in Flash?
    I know that this is probably asking a lot, even though its only 2 problems, but if anyone would be willing to help me out it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    The first one is the easiest and I haven´t heard about
    any issues except that flash will comsume more resources and will
    play a little slower. The second one can also be done (repeating an
    image all the time with Flash 7 or older, or painting with a tiling
    image on Flash 8) even manually, or with some coding.

    I used to be able to use my webcam! I downloaded the Adobe Flash Player and now I can't use it anywhere!
    I am unable to see the Privacy pop-up allowing me to Allow or Deny access to my camera & microphone.

    I have created a simple Flash menu for use on multiple site. They all access the same flash file. My original flash file only had a few links and tabs. The new one has more links, and a "LIVE" button at the bottom. But in Fire Fox, those that saw the original can not see the updated version in FireFox. They see it if they use Internet Explorer, Safari, Opera, etc. This issue comes up on all operating systems. This issue only occurs with FireFox. I've tried clearing FireFox's Cache but that doesn't seem to be working either.
    The Flash File can be found on the left side at this link:

    Your server file handling has nothing, and really nothing to do with Adobe software. If files don't get locked for (over-)writing and/or lose connection to the program opening them, then your server is misconfigured. It's as plain and simple and that. Anything from "known file types"/ file associations not being set correctly, MIME types being botched, crooked user privileges and file permissions, missing Mac server extensions, delayed file writing on the server, generic network timeout issues and what have you. Either way, you have written a longwinded post with no real value since you haven't bothered to provide any proper technical info, most notably about the alleged server. Either way, the only way you can "fix" it is by straightening out your server and network configuration, not some magic switch in Adobe's software.

  • Issue with latest Flash Player version when replaying videos

    I am using an older version of JWplayer "5.10.2295" in a lot of sites and it was working fine so far. Since the latest version of Flash Player came out the videos can't be played a second time on any browser on Windows. It is working fine for me on Mac - quickly tested in Firefox (Nightly) and Safari (latest stable).
    Reverting to an older version showed that everything was working fine before. I tried the latest 13 and 14 from Archived Flash Player versions
    Has this kind of issue been reported already? Any change in the upcoming beta that might fix this?
    Thanks,
    Albert

    I uninstalled FP following the steps on Uninstall Flash Player | Windows and installed 'flashplayer15_install_win_pi/ax/ppapi.exe' from Download Adobe Flash Player 15 Beta for Desktops - Adobe Labs instead. The 'Flash Player information' showed 15.0.0.183, but I still have the same issue. I also ran more tests multiple times on colleges' computers and the results are rather inconsistent:

  • T510 boot issues - power button flashes

    I have a T510 that is acting really strange.
    The laptop will do the following once shut down for any extended period of time.
    When I open it up and press the power button the power button, keyboard light , hdd light will all flash. 5 seconds or so will pass and then it will do the same thing, never actually booting up. I'll pull the power and batteries and repeat the process and the thing will do the same thing. Eventually it will boot if I repeat the steps enough.
    This just started happening recently. It will run fine once the system actually turns on. I have updated all drivers, I have updated the BIOS and all other software. I am highly doubting this is a windows issue as it never even POSTs.
    The flashing lights almost act like an error code but I couldn't find anything regarding 1 quick slow flash by the power button.
    Any suggestions?

    Maybe the keyboard cable or the keyboard itself? Nothing shows on screen during a false start?

  • PulseAudio issues: Manual 'initialisation' + Flash 10

    I have a PulseAudio isntallation that on the whole is functioning quite well. I've installed mplayer-pulse, mpd-pulse and libao-pulse and all is configured for Pulse and all is well.
    However, two minor issues:
    - Despite starting the pulseaudio daemon at startup, I need to manually mute and unmute the output device in pavucontrol in order for pulse to work. Up until I do this, the device works as a straight ALSA output, e.g. I can play an MP3 by running 'mplayer -ao ALSA filename.mp3' with nothing showing up in pavucontrol. Running mplayer without the ao option would use the mplayer output default of pulse which doesn't work at this point. My interpretation of this is that for some reason pulseaudio doesn't automatically assert control despite my running the daemon.
    - The wiki says that flash-plugin 10 should automatically pick up on pulse without having to resort to the hacking that apparently was needed for flash 9. Nevertheless, here's what firefox outputs to the command line when I try to play a youtube video:
    ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1008:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
    Obviously it persists in using ALSA - even when I add
    export FLASH_FORCE_PULSEAUDIO="1" && firefox
    to the mix... Note that this is always the case - also after I've done the mute-unmute routine.
    To my mind it looks like there's a missing global pulseaudio link here.... Some setting or other that would automatically make Pulse take control and make Flash discover it rather than perversely persisting in its oldfashioned ALSA ways...? I can get Flash sound output by installing alsa-plugins and adding the bits from the ALSA wiki but it still annoys me, knowing that it shouldn't be necessary....

    yes, pulseaudio worked for me out-of-the-box. but especially the lagging made video watching almost impossible and pulseaudio unusable.
    Which aren't actually so minor since I do like running all TTY (no X) sessions and no PA developer has apparently cared to make a PA controller for the command line or ncurses, at least what I've found.... So I can't unlock it on those occasions
    i think there are cli commands to controls pulseaudio. so you have to write them in a small bash (whatever) script.
