Searching tool to watch serialized object graph

Hi there,
I would like to check wether really only the needed data is serialized, however to read the binary file myself is very hard.
Does anybody know a tool which can convert serialized data to a more readable representation, like a list of instances or something like that?

How to search inside files of serialized objects without load then?

Hi,
I have many files and the content is default serialized objects, and I need to make a search in these files, and just load the files that match a search criteria, exists any tool or framework that can search inside these files in binary form, iow without load one by one and reflect to see if the criteria matches?
for example the search criteria can be: *"ClassName.attribute = 2"* and the search engine will search the binary format and just returns what files match that search criteria.

I dont know if there is a API for this but even if you have one it will still take almost the same time to do the searching because it will still have to read all the files completely.
Why not move to a database.

WebLogic WS having trouble serializing object graph with circular refs.

I am currently working with WL8.1 and we have a webservice that wraps some Java objects to send them over the wire. The problem is that these Java objects contain references to each other (ie. circular). WL doesn't like this and throws a recursion error when it tries to serialize them for the SOAP message.
Is there some setting to use a refID like XMLEncoder does or stop recursing after a certain point? I am using WLW 8.1.3 to create the web service.

- Add a toXML() method to your top level domain class and do your own custom serialization to XML.

Trying to use WAAD with FIM 2010 R2 SP1 (4.1.3496.0) and during export several objects cause a warning/info with:
Maximum number of items that can be serialized or deserialized in an object graph is '500000'. Change the object graph or increase the MaxItemsInObjectGraph quota.
I looked, this appears hard coded into the MA, anyone know what causes this? My best guess is something like a large group membership? Does anyone know what the limits around the WAAD MA are?

Domain design causing full object graph serialization

Hello,
I work on a project, based on 3-layer-architecture. We have rich client developed on swing, application server and we persist our domain objects in the database.
We map the domain objects using hibernate, send the same objects (means, we use POJOs and don't use DTO) via spring from application server to the server and visa versa in case the objects are to be saved, deleted etc.
We use an object identity store on the client side, in which all already loaded objects are stored.
My challenge is as follows:
- Since an object is stored in the object store, the same certain object is used in every GUI module. Imagine, we have customer, account and a list of transactions per account. In practice, let's say:
1 customer
2 accounts
1000 transactions per account which ever exist
- In one of the modules, the used loaded all list of transactions. So, at that moment, 1 customer object, 2 accounts and 2000 transaction objects are bound to each other via java references (object graph).
- On another module, the user wants to edit a very small attribute of customer object, say he corrects his birthday date and saves it.
- Saving operation sends the customer object to the server. But the problem is, a very big object graph hangs on this one little customer object and are serialized to the server, although the
service.save(customer);is called, and this costs extremely much time for our application.
boldSOLUTION:*bold* We solved the problem with a hack, as we used the serialization over XStream framework from Thoughtworks in xml-format. We could set a cut in the serialization and have serialized only the customer object for that use case.
So the problem for the save-use case was solved. This has a disadventage: the loading time (server-client (de-)serialization) using xml is longer than the java standard, especially remarkable if you load a big number of objects.
I've read many articles about the enterprise architectures which are related to domain objects, dto, serialization. It is not uncommon to avoid DTOs and use POJOs on the server and client as well, if the domain objects don't contain business logic. So, I just wonder, how the problem above should be solved smartly, if the non-DTO, say POJO alternative is chosen.

If you want to rename an existing car then you need logic to do exactly that. You do not copy the entire tree.
If however you do want to copy the entire tree then that is in fact what you must do. Although I seriously doubt that there is a valid business requirement for that. In terms of efficiency though you could write a proc that did that rather than propogating the tree.
Although further if you do in fact have two cars which use the same inventory item(s) then, again, you do not copy the entire tree because you are not creating a brand new inventory item. Instead you should only be pointing to an existing item.
I wonder how this problem is solved smartly, if you guys share domain objects between the client and server, and avoid DTO.The first step is to start with actual business requirements.

OID and binding java serialized object

How are you doing? I am trying to bind a serialized java object to a name in Oracle Internet Diectory (oid) using JNDI.
it gives me an errror.

Hello:
Although OID supports calls from JNDI, the JNDI schema for storing JAVA serialized objects is not yet a standard part of the OID schema. This is easy to remedy. Go to javasoft.sun.com and download the JNDI schema for java serialized objects and load the attributes and objectclasses into OID from the ldif files provided at this web site. . Make sure the attributes are loaded before the objectclasses.
Once this schema is loaded this problem should go away
Use the ldapmodify command line tool to add the schema items from the ldif file.
Let me know if you need further assistance setting this up. A future version of OID will contain these schema items standard.

Saving and loading serialized objects (StreamCorruptedException)

I am relatively new to Serialization (coming to that, a bit new to Java too) and I am having a problem with the following:
I am saving a number of serialized objects (all of the same class) in a file using the following way (the method is called multiple times to save a list of TeamMember objects):
Note: TeamMember is a custom class.

While tracing the program, I've seen that it always gives me that error when reading past the first object saved in the file.
Am I saving the objects in a wrong way, or reading them is done incorrectly?

DRG search tool failure

I have a Cd that can open and run without issue on a Win7 Pro without problems. The same CD reports an error message when trying to run on another Win7 Pro; the error message is:- "DRG Search Tool. Couldn't load OLE object."
I would like to know what's missing in the OS or how to sort out the issue.

CS3 - Object; Graph; Type - Crash

Working in InDesign and Illustrator CS3 and having 2 problems:
- From within Illustrator I have an existing simple bar graph that has been plotted and the bar colors changed. The client wants the left axis changed from a maximum of 50% to 60%. When I select a piece and go to Object; Graph; Type the program crashes. Tried this 3 times in a row and the program crashes every time.
Would this Graph be corrupt in someway?? Can I resave, rename??
- The other problem is within InDesign: Select the Graph, Edit Original and Illustrator will crash.

I realize this is an old post, but I've had the same crashing in Illustrator when selecting Type for many versions (since they haven't significantly updated the tool since, ever?). I've recently finally figured out why it happens, at least for my situation, so I'm posting here in case it happens to help someone else.
The default behavior for charts in Illustrator is for the plotted points/bars/etc. to be on top of other graph elements. With line graphs this is usually fine, but with bar charts it's visually stupid—the bars will appear half on the axis line and half off. So I figured out that I can rearrange the stacking order of the bars by selecting just the bars with the direct/group select tool and sending to back. Works great…
But then I get the crash when selecting Object>Graph>Type. Every time, reproducible.
Illustrator doesn't mind if I click twice on the axis and bring it to the front. So I'm relieved there's another way, but I haven't figured out how to fix a chart that's been "broken."

The selected objects cannot be joined as they are invalid objects,( Compound paths, closed paths, Text Objects, Graphs, Live Paint group). You can use Join command to connect two or more paths, paths in groups; ot to close an open path.

This sound like a firewall issue. I would start by disabling the firewall and seeing if you can connect. If this works then you know where the problem is,

Writing serialized objects as XML

What are the advantages and a disadvantages for writing serialized objects as XML instead of the Java binary format?

Depending on the serialization scheme, XML can be used to loosely bind the persistant data, so that the class can change version, or even be replaced by a different class as the project requires refactoring over its lifecycle.
It also allows non-Java tools to interact with your data, which almost always has a longer lifetime than any implementation. I still occasionally process SGML files from the '80s. If they had been in a proprietory binary format, that data would be far harder to re-use.

Adobe Bridge Search Tool Just Stopped Working

i recently upgraded to CS6 and all was well for a couple weeks then all of the sudden the search tool in bridge just flat out stopped working. i always used it to search for keywords and it worked almost flawlessly until today. i have thousands of photos on multiple hard drives and ive even tried indexing them to no avail. nothing works. ive used both the search bar in the top right corner as well as the find window and still nada. i purged the cache, i rebuilt the cache and did everything else i could think of still to no avail. ive googled and googled and googled and found absolutely no help in resolving this issue. i reset bridge during startup also to no avail. i even indexed specific files in specific folders and pointed the search directly to those folders and still nothing. i dont know what else to try at this point. can anyone offer any suggestions before i give up and just re-install the product (which i REALLY dont wanna do)?
im running CS6 on Windows 7 64-bit .. and again, it worked fine until today. i havent changed any settings or modified anything that i can think of that would have thrown bridge out of whack.

Weird. Have you tried resetting Bridge (Ctrl/Cmd-click icon)?
Maybe the cache is damaged or unwriteable?
I assume that the index is created in the Cache 'data' folder, and that this is the root of your problem. As an experiment, you could create a new folder in a known good writeable location on an internal drive, and change the cache location in Bridge Preferences (making a note of the existing location first). When you restart Bridge, it will use the new location, and automatically create a new index and preview cache.
Then try a search in one folder, for a known used keyword, making sure you have indexing turned on in the search options. Let us know how you get on.

How to create a Windows 8.1 Desktop icon from the Metro/Start and/or Search Tool?

I'm a Desktop user, but often find myself needing to go to the Metro/Start and Search Tool to find programs and App(let)s in order to run them. However, after doing this several times for many programs, I find myself wanting to create
Desktop icons to run the programs more easily. Is there a way to do this from the Metro/Start Icon and/or Search Tool results?
If not, Microsoft, please consider adding the ability to do this.
It would be very nice if this ability supported all of the icon types shown in the Metro/Start, Search Tool, and Control Panel interfaces, e.g.: Metro Apps, Desktop Programs, Charms, and Control Panel Applets.
Currently, there is a way to pin the Metro/Start Icon to the Desktop, but the Taskbar will get very cluttered with even only a handful icons.
It would be very nice if the desktop icon created by this also supported the context options that the program/app(let) now shows as Tasks when the icon is pinned to the Desktop Taskbar.
Additionally, it would be nice if I could also simply drag a Pinned Taskbar icon onto the Desktop area, again, retaining it's Tasks as context menu options when the Desktop Taskbar icon is right clicked.
This ability would be very helpful for people needing to get to programs and App(let)s, without having to resort the Metro/Start and Search Tool, because when there are a lot of Metro/Start icons, I have well over a hundred icons, it
can be very hard to find one simply eye-balling lot. The Search feature is much better, provided I know the name to look for and can remember it.
Finally, this ability would be very helpful, because the kinds of desktop shortcut icons that I can create using the New Shortcut option, assuming that can I find the program/App(let)'s name and path information, do not support the context options
that the icons could in Windows 7 when an icon is created while installing the program.

As a suggestion for your current situation, you can use Windows Charm Bar to search Apps, it is also easy to use.

In Messenger Express (ME) how do I add the Directory Server (DS) to the address book

Edit the globals.pl file. Look for a line similar to: <BR>

Add an entry to the list. The list is comma delimited and each entry is a
string. The string contains three fields, delimited by a double colon (::). The

the hostname of the DS and the third is the Distinguished Name (DN) to use when searching.

You can't add a new contact to specific group and there is no app for this. 3rd party apps don't have access to private iPhone APIs with security concerns being a primary reason, which such a function would require.
