Security Method?  Saving downloaded PDF's

I have credit card accounts which I access on Safari. Each month I download the statements as .pdf files. When I view some of these downloads on Preview, I can save them using a Save-As command. But for files downloaded from other sides, the Save-As is grayed out.
When I check the info for each file, the only difference I can see is that the files I can't "save-As" have a "Password encrypted" Security methods whereas the other ones have no security method. Ownership/Permissions seem the same for each one
How can I remove this limitation? The work around I use is to rename the files in the info tab and then drag them to the folder I want.
Thanks for your help

> If I then try to copy it over to the external hard-drive I get another error.

  • Preventing Preview from saving downloaded PDFs

    I love Preview in many ways, but one way I miss Adobe (or is it Windows...?) is that the PDFs were saved as temp files and deleted when closed. This meant if I wanted a copy, I manually saved it. With Preview, my desktop can quickly fill up with unwanted copies. it gets worse when I revisit a PDF and get multiple copies of the same (seems like Preview would be smart enough to know it had already been there). How can I either prevent or change the location to which Preview saves downloaded PDFs?
    Also, I'm using Firefox and it just occurred to me this could be Mozilla "functionality". Is it?

    *The lack of a Google toolbar for Safari really has me down on it*
    Hmmm! There's one on mine. You must have deleted it. Check View->Customize Toolbar and drag it back or just use the defaults setting.
    How? I've yet to see options for either of these.
    *First off, if you want PDF's to open in your browser, set it up that way.*
    You need to install PDF Browser Plugin.plugin. Sorry, I've had it for over three years, so I forget it doesn't come with Safari. Get it at http://www.schubert-it.com/pluginpdf/
    *If you don't want PDFs downloaded to your Desktop, change the download location.*

  • Unable to open a saved/ downloaded pdf file

    Hi
    I get the following error when trying to open pdf file that was downloaded and saved through a java program.
    Adobe Reader could not open 'export.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged. (for eg. it was sent as email attachment and was not correctly decoded.
    Any solution or suggestion to this error will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

    Since you don't tell us anything about your code, we can only guess.
    Here are common solutions:
    - Don't use any of those types when handling your data: char, char[], String, Reader, Writer.
    - Make sure that you really understand what read(byte[]) does and when it returns. (Hint: when ignore its return value or call it outside a loop, then you don't understand it).

  • Has anyone experienced problems saving downloaded pdf files in Yosemite?

    In Mavericks, I could choose the pdf file destination folder using the save dialog box's "search" entry to select the folder to save a file in. Now the search feature seems to have been disabled. Yosemite appears to have implemented a new method to choose a destination folder. It sometimes allows me to navigate to a parent folder and get a list of sub folders that I can scroll through to choose the desired one. Problem is that the feature seems to be unstable - I can't reliably get this feature to work and wonder if I can downgrade to Mavericks.

  • Security Method is grayed out

    I need to change the Security Method on a PDF file so I can reduce the file size with file optimizer.
    The problem is the drop-down menu for Security Method (File > Properties > Security) is grayed out. Also, the button for "Change Settings" and "Show Details" are grayed out as well. Below, the Document Restructions Summary shows "Allowed" for everything listed.
    In the meantime, "PDF Optimizer" remains grayed out and I need to reduced the size of a PDF.
    Any help with this would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    You might try doing a Save As with a new name. It sounds like the file has Extended Reader rights.

  • Unable to password protect file to email using Acrobat XI whether saving excel PDF or scanning document and then trying.  Security Method has no drop down menu to change None.

    I cant get password to work on Acrobat XI.  Can not get a drop down menu to appear to change security method from None.

    Make sure that you use Adobe Acrobat, not Adobe Reader.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    You can't share preview files to an iOS device. There are several other options for pdf's such as Adobe Reader or iBooks.

    for the moment you can Forcequit, as Eustace said.
    Really quit a program you do by clicking the menu bar of the program where its name is, on the bottom you see "Quit (appname)"; when it is in the Dock, rightclick it in the Dock and choose "Quit".
    Now about yout attachment: it does not matter what you did to it and where you moved it, as long as Preview is still open it doesn't let it go.

  • Acrobat 10 has stopped saving ANY PDFs, old or new, scanned or downloaded

    Help! Recently my Acrobat 10 has stopped saving ANY PDFs, old or new, scanned or downloaded.  When I try to save a PDF a popup occurs telling me "The document could not be saved. There was a problem reading this document (8)."  What can be done to fix this issue?

    Hi rdabel,
    This is a generic error message, while saving a file which has some corrupt data.
    Can you please open the file, click on 'File - Properties', and under description, please check who is the PDF producer for a sample file.
    Also, please share the exact version of Adobe Acrobat 10 (Help menu - About Adobe Acrobat 10). The latest version of Adobe Acrobat is 10.1.12. You can also try updating your Acrobat to the latest version (Help - Check for updates) to see if that works for you.

  • Firefox cannot download pdfs on secured web sites .... any ideas?

    For some months now I have been unable to download pdfs at the secured web sites of financial institutions. After talking with technicians they are all bewildered but point to browser or security settings but are unable to solve the problem. Do others have this experience?

    Only security software (probably anti-virus software or the firewall) would show such a message if it was a Windows message, so you can check it there.
    If it is a message from a Firefox extension then see this:

  • On new MBP, wont download pdfs from secure sites, like banks. "unknown error" reported. Using Acrobat.

    Recently started using a Macbook Pro, formerly ran Firefox on a PC. Installed Acrobat and it works fine, and will download pdfs from internet fine, UNLESS it is from certain sites, that as near as I can tell have in common that I needed a password to get in (eg, Bank, insurance company). At this sites I can't download a pdf file, and am told that an "unknown error" occurred and I should try saving directly link to the disk. But this doesn't work either, it just wants to save a .cgi file, not the pdf. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

    Did you try to save that cgi file and give it a .pdf file extension?

    Hi Melbus_SE,
    Are you downloading files from your Acrobat.com cloud storage? If so, what browser are you using, and are you on Mac OS or Windows? Has something changed on your system since you were able to download/open PDF files successfully? What version of Acrobat or Reader are you using to open these files?
    Sorry to ask so many questions, but your answers will help us get to the bottom of this issue.
    I look forward to hearing back from you.
    Best,

    A "quick" fix that worked for me was to uninstall Adobe... then download the base install for Adobe Reader 11.0.
    Then download each of the individual updates and run them sequentially.
    I've installed back up to the last security update which is version 08 and have been able to do normal Save As operations.
    You will have to disable automatic updates in order to stay at version 08 until Adobe resolves this issue in a later release.

  • Setting a security method in Adobe forms

    Hi all,
    This is th Adobe form developemnt. the output PDF will be downloaded to the Presentation server.When ever i am viwing the PDF Document-> Security.> Show security settings it is showing as 'No security'. But I need to set the set the security method as 'Password secured'.
    Please help me out in this issue. How to set the password security in Adobe forms.
    Thanks & Regards
    Deepika

    Hi Deepika,
    You could try to add a password to the PDF as follows:
    Prerequisites: NW70 SP-13 or higher (include ADS J2EE engine)
    Preparation
    1. Job profile
      first create xml file which has following content:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <JobProfile>
    <Description>
    ##Password encryption
    </Description>
    <Protect transform = "add">
    <OpenPassword>open</OpenPassword>
    <MasterPassword>master</MasterPassword>
    </Protect>
    </JobProfile>
    You can select any name for <OpenPassword> and <MasterPassword>.
    Save this xmlfile. And copy it to ADS server
    /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/global/AdobeDocumentServices/JobProfiles/Custom/Print
    2. Create Password alias on ADS
    Visual Admin -> server -> services -> DocumentServicesConfiguration
      -> Password tab
    Create 2 alias
       Alias: open   (It should be same as as above XML tag <OpenPassword>)
       password:  this password will be used for opening PDF.
       Alias: master (It should be same as as above XML tag
    <MasterPassword>)
       password: this password will be used for opening with Acrobat
    Professional.
    3. Modify print program
    When you call sfp runtime, you need to use 'SET_JOB_PROFILE' with job
    profile name (created by step1)
    http://help.sap.
    com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/46/3862dfac8e00c2e10000000a11466f/frameset.
    htm
    Sample ABAP report is available:
    FP_TEST_03
      Job Profile -> select file which is created by step1. (You can use F4
    help)
    These are addtional steps to add password encryption for PDF.
