Select a video device

Hi
I have an integrated webcam, which works properly as far as I know.
The problem is that every time I try to locate it I get the window asking me to 'select a video device'. there is only one option, but it asks every time.
can I avoid that?
win 7, if it matters.
Thanks

Using "vfw://0" indicates to JMF that it should use the default VFW device. If no default is found / set, it'll ask which one you want to use.
You should try obtaining the address of the specific device from the CaptureDeviceManager...

  • Error message: "Attempt to capture video without a video device selected."

When trying to log and capture, I'm receiving the following error message: "Attempt to capture video without a video device selected. Please select a video device in your capture presents and try again."
In Capture Presents under DV NTSC 48 kHz it says "WARNING: Video Device DV Video is missing."
An attempt to edit the Capture Preset gives me QuickTime Video Setting Digitzer options of only "[missing] DV Video."
This happened only after I upgraded to Tiger. I know Log and Capture is recognizing the camera because it's showing the timecodes, but not the image. Any help would be most appreciated.

This reminds me of a problem with the QuickTime install. Try this - remove all the QuickTime associated .pkg files from /Library/Receipts, then go to http://www.quicktime.com and download the full installer and do a complete install.

  • Attempt to capture video without a video device selected

Everything appears normally, I can see the video and audio, but as soon as I click on 'capture now',
    communicate appears:
"Attempt to capture video without a video device selected.
Please select a video device in capture pre-sets and try again".
    I've clicked on 'Final Cut Pro>Audio Video Settings..>Capture Pre-sets
Settings are DV Pal 48 kHZ
I have tried the basic DV setting but all cummunication seems fine anyway.
I have also tried trashing my preferences.
This was all working OK on the last version of software.
The camera is a Sony pcr dc110

The problem was that the frame rate setting have not been set for Pal DV in Apples default setups

  • Selected audio and video devices may not match

Hello - I was able to Print to Video w/no problem, from my Mac Book Pro, to my Panasonic PV-GS320 w/no problem. Now, all of a sudden, when trying to do this, I get this msg.:
'The selected audio and video devices may not match. Please verify that the a/v outputs are externally routed to the intended device(s).'
Not sure what happened, or what changed, but here is my setup:
Sequence & Capture Presets are both: DV NTSC 48 kHz
    Device control preset: FireWire Basic
Video Playback: Apple Firewire NYSC (720 x 480)
    Audio Playback: Default
Like I said, I don't know what got changed, but, it was working before - hope someone can help, thanks so much!!
    Kristina

I think I found the problem...I had forgotten to switch my Device Control Preset back to FireWire, from the previous non-controllable - thanks so much!

  • Adobe FLME Error Message "Please check if video devices are connected properly and are not used by any other application."

Hello, I'm trying to use my MAC Book Pro with Adobe FMLE. Once I select either my internal or external camera and microphone, in the live encoder I get this error message. "Please check if video devices are connected properly and are not used by any other application." The Facetime HD camera works in Photo Booth. Can someone assist me in what to do please, Thanks in advance!

    Hi all ,
We found the solution for this issue .
We have installed the crypto library in global executable directory and any way it will replicate those binaries to individual application servers.
But the parameters are still looking for global executable directory for loading crypto library during time.
So all application servers are trying to load crypto library files from global "exe" instead of local directory, which was clustered .Sometimes during  heavy network load it may cause some delays to load the libraries to individual application servers and in turn is causing the license key issues.
Note 982056 - The license key library has not been initialized yet..
SAP Recommend option for all SSF parameters should be instance profile parameters not in default parameters..This was mentioned in below note:
Note 662340 - SSF Encryption Using the SAPCryptolib --- .
But in our Environment SSF and SEC parameter were set in DEFAULT profile instead Instance profile.
    Recommendations:
    o     ssf/ssfapi_lib  = <Path and file name of SAPCRYPTOLIB>
    o     sec/libsapsecu  = <Path and file name of SAPCRYPTOLIB>
This was mentioned in the below SAP HELP.

  • Profile.xml: how to select a video input (from number not name)

    Hello,
I'm using FMEcmd in command-line mode with a custom
    profile.xml
If I look at the profile.xml it looks like the selection of
the inputs (video and audio) is only possible by giving the full
name of the input (not just the input number like for Real Producer
    or Windows Media Encoder).
The app. I'm developing will be used with a webcam and I dont
have the information about the model someone will be using (and the
user won't open the FME GUI to generate a profile).
Is it really not possible to select an input from its number
    (as seen by windows)?
If not do you have any suggestion to overcome this
    limitation?
Also I've played with <crossbar_input> but I'm not sure
    what it means.
    Thanks
    <video>
    <device> ToUcam Pro Camera; Video</device>
    <crossbar_input>0</crossbar_input>
    <frame_rate>15.00</frame_rate>
    <size>
    <width>320</width>
    <height>240</height>
    </size>
    </video>
    <audio>
    <device>Appareil photo Philips ToUcam F</device>
    <crossbar_input>0</crossbar_input>
    <sample_rate>22050</sample_rate>
    <channels>1</channels>
    <input_volume>75</input_volume>
    </audio>

Now that FME 2.5 is out I tried again. I still can't find the
possibility to select the source from number (like Windows Media
    Encoder or Real Producer can).
Can someone confirm that this possibility is not present in
    2.5?
Is there any slight chance it will be implemented in the next
    version?
What work around do you advise?
    Thanks for any answers.

  • Valid video device not be found for playback (-70017)

    Hello
I have read an identical unsolved discussion to my problem here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3067284&#3067284
I have an intel Mac Mini 1.66 Ghz Intel Core Duo with 1 G ram running 10.4.10.
When I put in a DVD the dialogue says: Valid video device could not be found for playback (-70017)
I have tried deleting the preferences, but no luck?
    Any thoughts?

When you insert a commercial DVD, does the system show any sign of attempting to open an application? It should, by default, open DVD Player, but you could get that error if you were trying to play something like a DVD with a different region code.
Check the CDs & DVDs preference pane, and look at what it says against 'when you insert a video DVD'. If this isn't set to open DVD player, then select that and see if that gives better results.
If you are trying to play DVDs from another region, you might download and install VLC player from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html This is a versatile player application which can cope with out-of-region DVDs. Once installed, use the CDs and DVDs preference pane to set that as the preferred application to open when inserting a video DVD, and see if that works.

  • Missing video device / apple firewire

When trying to caputure, a box comes up that says "attempt to capture video without a video device. Please select video device from capture presets."
Under capture presets, where it lists all the settings for each preset, it says: "WARNING video device dv video is missing."
Under a/v settings -> summary -> video playback, it says "[missing] Apple firewire PAL." (I'm using PAL)
When trying to log and capture, I can't see the image, but can control the camera.
Background: I just reinstalled FCP HD and Quicktime.
If anyone has any ideas about this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Mac OS X (10.3.9)   FCP HD

    Nathan,
The setup of you system is a little unclear from your profile.
Are working in 10.3.9 with FCP4.5 and now gone back to QT6.5.2?
If so, that is a very reliable grouping. I'd say, unless you have changed or added a drive, changed the firewire port the drive is connected to or changed some other physical element, the QT reinstall is not working as it should.
Try trashing the receipts, download the full installer and then run it from your hard drive again.
    Good luck.

  • Video device unknown

During hardware scan the video device was undetected. Should, I continue with the installation or abort.
By the way the video card is ATI diamond Radeon 128MB PCI DDR. It is not listed in hardware list for intel x86.
Is their a way around to install Solaris 9.0 on WinXP bypassing the Video issue.
    Appreciate your help.
    Ram
I am new to this OS. Just started the class from 20th June 2005.

    Hi,
I had video card and Monitor Frequency problems too while installing Solaris 10. May be this will work for Solaris 9 too. Please let me know if it does. First, go ahead and install Solaris 9. It should probably detect the Windows partition ( I really hope it does!!)
Log into command prompt as soon as the Solaris login prompt is shown.
    At the command prompt, type:
    kdmconfig and hit enter.
kdmconfig will allow you to choose Xorg Server or XSun Server. Choose the Xorg Server. Hit F2 key. It will show you that you can configure the settings using the xorgconfig command. Hit F2 again and now you will be at the command prompt again.
    Now run the following command:
    /usr/X11/bin/xorgconfig and hit enter
( I think you might see different values when you run the xorgconfig tool. I am not sure if its there in Solaris 9, but like I said, lets try if it works)
Read the screen that comes up. You can select the mouse (Better keep it to Auto Value), keyboard (Dont use generic ones. Did not work for me. What worked for me was option no. 87 about the Logitech Keyboard) and the screen resolution, video card type, memory on the video card now.
You can enter the Horizontal and vertical Frequency of your monitor.(This will probably be displayed when you get a black screen. It will show you what the operating frequency is. Note it down and enter it when asked for it in the xorgconfig tool)
When choosing the resolution, ensure that the highest value is 1024X768 (Incase you have a 14" monitor) and then 800X600 and then the value lesser than that. The resolution is numbered and hence you will have to type 432, where 4 = 1024X768, 3 = 800X600 and 2 =640X480 (or some value like this). You can also choose the Video card and the amount of memory you have. Select all this and then lastly it will ask you if you wanna boot in 24 bit mode by default. Choose yes (if you can boot in 24 bit mode). Finally it will ask you if it can go ahead and write the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. Type y.
Now run kdmconfig again and ensure that the Xorg Server is selected. Hit F2 till you get to the command prompt and then reboot. After reboot, you should get the CDE login screen (GUI).
    Try this. This might work.

  • Video device not detected

I am new to using flash media live encoder, very little
knowledge on how this works. I downloaded it today and plugged my
JVC HD 110 with firewire and got the error message that no video
device was detected when I opened the application. I also tried
using my Sony Handycam connecting it with a USB and still nothing.
I am running the encoder on the PC side of my Mac using Parallels.
    Any thoughts?

The Mac thing may throw this for a loop, but try buying a
Dazzle RCA to USB converter (yes, even if your camera already has
USB-sometimes cameras does not have a setting to allow the video
    out in real time).
Once you connect the Dazzle (they are at every computer store
'Micro Center', etc.), it will be in the list to select, if it
already isn't the systems selected choice-you will be able to
select it. Now, if your video camera does not have RCA and it has
the 1/8 inch or any other plug-you may be back to scratch (if you
have the 1/8 inch-you can adapt that to RCA and continue from
    there).
    Good Luck!

ok so new build. Works great. However randomly after I restart or shut down, I get "reboot and select proper boot device."
so I go into the bios, try to troubleshoot the problem, restart and it boots fine 4 or 5 times. I think I fixed it. then later I restart, its back.
I have gaming 7 board and an samsung 840 evo 250gb HDD.
I guess if it does it again ill try to repair windows. Then I guess I will figure the SSD is bad. Hope not.

  • Can I use the HDMI Out on my macbook pro retina for audio without connecting a video device?

While the MBP has TOSLINK output from the headphone jack, TOSLINK does not have the bandwidth to carry the high resolution audio from many blu-rays and DVD-Audio disks. I would like to hook my MBP to an audio-only HDMI sink so I can pipe the multichannel output to my surround speaker setup.
My concern is that the MBP will get "confused" and do one of the following things - both of which are "bad":
    1) It will decide that a video device is there, and put the desktop on the nonexistent HDMI display OR
    2) It will decide to send no signal at all (no video, no audio) because it sees no video device.
    Any thoughts on this?
In short - thinking of using something like this: http://www.ambery.com/2hddodtsdihd.html
with the HDMI out of the MBP and then piping its 6 discrete analog outputs to my old (but excellent for computer speakers) Logitech Z680 setup.
But I want any movie video to remain unperterbed on my Thunderbolt display. And if I am not watching a movie and am just listening to multichannel FLACs or something, then I'd like to run the media player normally and have the usual desktop on my MBP or Thunderbolt display.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks to all!!
