Selecting Multiple columns in Sub-query

Hi All,
I've been using three co-related queries to fetch data as shown below in the pseudo code. All these sub-queries are same, except the column name. I want to avoid the same query to be executed thrice for three columns. Is there any way to avoid this?
insert into my_table
select colA,
colB,
(select field1 from table1 where table1.fieldx =tableA.fieldy ) col1,
(select field2 from table1 where table1.fieldx =tableA.fieldy) col2,
(select field3 from table1 where table1.fieldx =tableA.fieldy) col3
from tableA , table B
where con1= con2
    and con3 = con4
    and con4=con5;All suggestions are welcomed
Regards,
K

Hi,
Perhaps this is what you want:
INSERT INTO my_table (colA, colB. col1, col2, col3)    -- list the columns explicitly
WITH     table_1_summary          AS
     SELECT       fieldx
     ,       MIN (field1)     AS col1
     ,       MIN (field2)     AS col2
     ,       MIN (field3)     AS col3
     FROM       table1
     GROUP BY  fieldx
SELECT       colA
,       colB
,       t1.col1
,       t1.col2
,       t1.col3
FROM       tableA          a
,       tableB          b
,       table_1_summary     t1
WHERE       con1          = con2
AND       con3          = con4
AND       con4          = con5
AND       t1.field1 (+)     = a.fieldy
;Something a little shorter (and a little more efficient) might work, depending on you data, especially what columns are unique.
I hope this answers your question.
If not, post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements, relevant columns only) for all tables, and also post the results you want from that data.
Explain, using specific examples, how you get those results from that data.
Always say which version of Oracle you're using.

    Hi,
      If we want to select the multiple columns in the alv by using ooabap
    so in the class CL_GUI_ALV_GRID  it is having one method SET_TABLE_FOR_FIRST_DISPLAY
    it is having one importing parameter IS_LAYOUT of type lvc_s_layo type
    and this structure contains one field SEL_MODE and set that field value as 'A'.
    then we can select the multiple rows in alv grid

  • How do I select multiple columns in a recordset

    I am very new to Dreamweaver/PHP/MYSQL
    I have created my recordset but I cant work out how I select multiple columns.
    How do I select multiple columns, I want to search for data that is spread over different columns.
    My recordset looks like this just now.
    SELECT *
    FROM names
    WHERE nameone = john
    I have 11 columns where the name john my or may not appear so how would I select all the columns. What would the recordset look like.
    As I have said I,m very new to this  and forgive me if what i have just said makes no sense.
    Thanks

    >I have 11 columns where the name john my

    You could try a Full-Text search (if mysql supports it) but on the surface, this sounds like a badly designed data structure. What does your database and table design look like?

  • SAPGUI JAVA 7.10 (OSX 10.5.1): cannot select multiple columns in ALV

    Hi,
    in sapgui java 7.10 (on mac osx 10.5.1) I cannot select multiple columns in ALV reports.
    I can do it only in some transactions (like SE16). But on all our custom reports (REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY) in does not work.
    Any hint?
    Many thanks,
    Lorenzo

    Hi Lorenzo,
    did you double check if selecting multiple columns works with SAP GUI for Windows in the same report?
    If yes, I suggest to file a bug report so we can do a remote logon to run your custom report.
    If not it might be because of REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY itself or your parameters calling REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY.

  • Linq selecting multiple columns when using anonymous types using Sum multiple columns

    I have a list with multiple columns where I need to sum a list of columns for each row into a new column (not 100% sure if there is another way to sum other than I have done it). Problem I'm having is being able to select more than just column I'm creating
    used from summing the other column and the Key. Below will produce a row with the CustomerId and the total of all the months.
    CustomerId
    Total
    12345
    2500.00
    12346
    3000.00
    But let's say I have a row called Name in "history"--how can display it in the query results as below.  I'm unable to reference anything but the key.
    CustomerId
    Total
    Name
    12345
    2500.00
    John Smith
    12346
    3000.00
    May Allen
    var list = history
    .GroupBy(g => g.CustomerId)
    .Select(sg =>

    Key = lg.Key,
    SumTotal = sg.Sum(x => x.month_01)
    + sg.Sum(x => x.month_02)

  • Multiple columns from a query sorted vertically

    Is it possible to sort a query resultset vertically, with
    multiple columns across the page, in the following manner, with
    page breaks after 40 rows? I can get it to sort horizontally just
    fine with tables, but how can it be done vertically as shown?
    JONES, Abby JONES, Betty JONES, Dawn JONES, Frank
    JONES, Adam JONES, Bill JONES, Debbie JONES, Gayle
    JONES, Alice JONES, Bob JONES, Denton JONES, Henry
    JONES, Ben JONES, Cathy JONES, Emma JONES, John

    This will get you started. I assume you had the appropriate
    order by clause in your query. I also assume you want 4 columns per
    line.
    My approach would be to convert the query to an array and
    then output the array.
    columns = 4;
    maxrows = 40;
    recordsperpage = columns * rows;
    records = query.recordcount;
    myArray = ArrayNew(2);
    ThisColumn = 1;
    ThisRow = 1;
    if (records gt recordsperpage)
    LoopTill = recordsperpage;
    else
    LoopTill = records;
    for ( ii = 1; ii lte LoopTill; ii = ii + 1){
    myArray[ThisRow][ThisColumn] = query.field[ii];
    increment ThisRow;
    if (ThisRow = MaxRows + 1) {
    ThisRow = 1;
    increment ThisColumn;
    } // if
    } // looop
    You can do the rest

  • Selecting Multiple Columns in Segment's Column Formula of BIEE Marketing

    Hi all,
    in BIEE 10.1.3.3.1 Marketing Tool we are having problems creating a segment.
    We need the possibility to create a segment filter that contains for example the sum of two different columns ( Num SMS 1 month ago + Num SMS 2 months ago > 100).
    In the "Edit Column Formula Window" the user would like to add the columns from the left panel (like it is suggested in the edit column formula) but this seems to not work, instead when a column is selected a new "Create/Edit Filter" window pops up, therefore the selected column is not inserted in the "Edit Column Formula". We have also tried selecting the "Columns" button but no columns appear ("None").
    We have a work around to this but we can only do it by editing the column formula and adding manually the 2nd column and this is not very user-friendly.
    Does anybody have any suggestions?
    Thank you in advance for your help

  • Selecting multiple columns

    hi all
    i have a jtable.I need to select multiple rows (not continuous) and store the values into a arraylist ..iam getting an exception when i use this one
    int rows[] = tbtsTable.getSelectedRows();
    for(int i=0;i< rows.length;i++)
    String display="";
    for (int j=0;j<4;j++){
    display+= (String)tbtsTable.getValueAt(rows,j)
    if(j!=3)
    display+="-";
    JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null,display);

    When you post code use the "formatting tags" so the code retains its original formatting.
    iam getting an exception when i use this one Are we supposed to guess what the exception is?

  • Select multiple column into one column

    Hi..!!!
    Is it possible to select 4 columns in to 1 columns?
    I've major1, major 2, major 3, major 4 and i want to retrieve all the columns into one column called "Majors".
    Is it possible? if yes then how?
    Help me out.
    Thanks,

    If you had given a proper example this thread would have been over in two posts. What you are looking for is often described as an UNPIVOT.
    I tend to use a collection type for this, e.g.
    Oracle Database 10g Express Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
    SQL> CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE varchar2_table AS TABLE OF VARCHAR2 (4000);
      2  /
    Type created.
    SQL> SELECT empno, column_value
      2  FROM   emp, TABLE (varchar2_table (ename, job));
         EMPNO COLUMN_VALUE
          7369 SMITH
          7369 CLERK
          7499 ALLEN
          7499 SALESMAN
          7521 WARD
          7521 SALESMAN
          7566 JONES

  • Multiple Columns in sub-report

    Post Author: Marcotte
    CA Forum: General
    I am creating an Inventory Disposition form.  At the top of the report, I want to list all of the Reason Codes the user may select.  There are currently 30 Reason Codes, but this could grow in the future.  Therefore, it is impractical to list all the the Reason Codes in one column.  I would like to list them in two columns at the top of my report (perhaps as a sub-report in the main Report Header).
    I know how to create a multi-column report via the Section Expert, however what I can't figure out is how to force it to start the second column after a pre-set number of records or inches.  Here's the layout of the report I'm looking for:
    What happens is that it lists all 30 records in the first column because it doesn't reach a page break.  How do I insert a page break into a report?
    There is a Reason Code Group field in the table which I can use to break the Codes into smaller groups (there are about 6 groups), if that helps.

    Aha!  "Across Then Down", under the Layout Tab.

  • Selecting same column twice makes query slow

    Hello,
    Has anybody any idea why following statement is slow when selecting the
    DATA_TYPE column twice?
    SELECT S.OWNER,
    S.SYNONYM_NAME,
    UCOL.COLUMN_NAME,
    UCOL.DATA_TYPE,
    UCOL.DATA_TYPE,
    UCOL.DATA_LENGTH,
    COLUMN_ID
    FROM ALL_SYNONYMS S,
    ALL_TAB_COLUMNS UCOL
    WHERE S.TABLE_OWNER = UCOL.OWNER
    AND S.TABLE_NAME = UCOL.TABLE_NAME
    and S.owner = 'REPORTING_TEST'
    and S.SYNONYM_NAME = 'OV_COMMERCIAL_ENTITY_JN'
    Replace the owner and table name with one of your own.
    If you take one of the DATA_TYPE's out the select is much faster.
    Why, I hear you ask, do you select the same column twice?
    Well, it's not me. It's BusinessObjects when it does a structure refresh it
    produces a statement similar to the one above except that one of the
    DATA_TYPE's is a SUBSTR + DECODE (however they in themselves
    have virtually no impact on the statement). I just find it weird that repeating
    a column twice can have such a dramatic impact on performance.
    I'm not a tuning expert and have looked at EXPLAIN PLAN outputs but can't
    make head nor tail of them.
    Thanks,
    Ruud

    Yes it's true that Oracle caches data but I did run both statements several times within the same session. Run statement 1, run statement 2, add 2nd column and run again, take column away and run again, etc. Always the results were the same. The query with duplicate columns ran in seconds, the one without in milliseconds.
    If it tells you anything, below both explain plans. The main difference that I noticed is the full table scan on USER$ for the first query. The second one (although a more elaborate execution plan) seems to use indexes more.
    Don't spend too much time on this. I've found a workaround where I create temporary tables for ALL_SYNONYMS and ALL_TAB_COLUMNS and re-direct the public synonyms to point at those. After I've done what I wanted to do with BusinessObjects, I restore the original public synonyms. Next thing I'll try is rebuilding my database from scratch and see if the problem is still there.
    Apologies if the listings come out in variable font (how do you paste fixed font?).

  • Select single column but multiple rows in JTable

    Hi
    I have a jTable and want to be able to select multiple rows but only in a single column.
    I've set these properties which makes selection almost the way I would like it.
    table1.setCellSelectionEnabled(true);
    table1.setSelectionMode(ListSelectionModel.SINGLE_INTERVAL_SELECTION);the only problem now is that the user can select multiple columns.
    Is there a simple way to restrict selection to single column?
    regards
    abq

    table.setCellSelectionEnabled(true);
    table.setSelectionMode(ListSelectionModel.SINGLE_INTERVAL_SELECTION);
    DefaultListSelectionModel model =
         (DefaultListSelectionModel)table.getColumnModel().getSelectionModel();
    model.setSelectionMode(ListSelectionModel.SINGLE_SELECTION);

  • Dynamic selection of columns in report and print the output

    Hi,
    I tried to have dynamic selection of columns in SQL query using lexical parameter. The hitch is how to print those selected column in excel ouput ?
    Suppose
    I have select &col from table_name
    Initial value of &col is col1 and in data layout only col1 appears
    where &col was replaced with more than a column (col1,col2,col3)
    now how to print the column selected at the run time,
    i have coded in Before Report Trigger
    :cell_val := ' <td><rw:field id:"cl1" src="col1"></rw:field></td>
    <td><rw:field id:"cl2" src="col2"></rw:field></td>
    <td><rw:field id:"cl3" src="col3"></rw:field></td> ' ;
    and this user parameter was replaced in web source using JSP expression
    <rw:getvalue id: "v_cell" src:"cell_val"></rw:getvalue>
    <rw:foreach src:"g_val">
    <table>
    <tr>
    <% =v_cell%>
    </tr>
    </table>
    </rw:foreach>
    but in the output i can see only blank columns
    Regards
    Suresh

    The strings replaced by expression <%= v_cell %>
    should print the field values contained in col1,col2,col3 columns, but nothing is printed . i think the custom tags (rw...) are not replaced by the jsp expression properly.
