Server 2012 Dual Monitor Issue - Can't Get it to work properly.

I have a HP Proliant ML310e that runs Server 2012 R2. It came with an on-board VGA graphics adapter, that was using a Microsoft Basic Display Adapter driver and working fine.
Needing to run dual monitors, I contacted HP and purchased a Nvida K2000 PCIE graphics card. I installed it using their latest drivers and rebooted, making sure that the new PCIE card was enabled in the BIOS.
While booting, the server actually now displayed on the new 'second' monitor connected to the newly installed Nvida card. When I actually logged in and went into the display properties, it was only detecting the new display - I couldn't even force detect
the original display.
Also, when I go into device Manger, it now only shows the Nvidia graphics adapter - no longer shows that the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter is present.
Any advice on how to get dual monitors to work on Server 2012. I did try the Windows/P Projector display, but that did nothing.
Thanks,

Hi,
You should check your BIOS settings - some motherboard will disable onboard display card once a PCI(E) card is plugged in. This is a hardware settings issue. If  HP support is available, ask them for detailed configuration steps.

    Yes, if you purchased it in an Apple store, they should be able to assist you.  Bring your MBP with you as well as the Drive.
    Ciao.

  • I can't get iTunes to work properly on Windows 8

    I can't get iTunes to work properly on Windows 8. I tried everything and iTunes is NOT compatible with Windows 8. There is either an iTunes issue or a Microsoft issue.

    I finally got it to work right. Some files and folders (iTunes video files, etc) were referenced to my iTunes account, I copied from my backup (external) Hard Drive to my system Hard Drive. The only thing that can keep me from accessing my wish list for some time is a very heavy Internet traffic via iTunes players to iTunes Store. So everything is now NORMAL.

    Hello EucaBlue!
    So in Disk Utility, with the external harddrive selected, go to the Partition tab, and then under "Partition Layout:" select 1 Partition.
    After than, verify that it is formatting the drive as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled) under "Partition Information"
    Also verify that it's using using the GUID Partition Map under the Options button at the lower left of this window.
    Then click apply and confirm that you want to format the drive. It will ask you if you're sure, and probably for an Administrator password.
    Once your harddrive is formatted properly, you should be able to use Time Machine, or any other Mac backup software.
    Happy tinkering!

  • IMovie wii no longer share with iDVD.  I just upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.2 and now I can't get iDVD to work properly.  Any thoughts?

    iMovie wii no longer share with iDVD.  I just upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.2 and now I can't get iDVD to work properly.  Any thoughts?  This is what comes up.....

    iDVD does work with Yosemite although, as Kappy pointed out unsupported for 2 years, so try this basic troubleshooting fix:
    1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
    User/Home/Library/Preferences folder.
    2 - delete the contents of IDVD'S cache folder: User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD.
    3 - launch IDVD and try again.
    NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
    If you're running Mavericks or Yosemite go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
    If iDVD crashes again post the first 50 lines of the crash report.  Don't post a screenshot but copy and paste the actual text.
    To get a movie from iMovie to iDVD it should be exported out of iMovie as 480p and added manually to iDVD.

  • I am using Hover for my email address and I can not get it to work properly

    I've changed the MX record to 10mx.hover.com.cust.hostedemail.com (Hover's recomendation) but it's still not working.
    How Can I get this to work properly?
    Thanks for the help!

    Hey KoobeP,
    I have performed a DNS look-up on the domain stormbluedesign.com and can see that the MX record you have added exists within our DNS: http://screencastmb.worldsecuresystems.com/img/2013-04-24_0949.png. However, this MX record is not pointing to any IP address which leads me to believe the MX record you added is incorrect.
    I believe the MX record you need to add is mx.hover.com.cust.hostedemail.com, with a priority of 10. Not 10mx.hover.com.cust.hostedemail.com. But as always, contact your mail service provider for confirmation on the records they require you to add.

  • Can't get X to work properly (ATI AIW 9800)

    Hello,
    I have a few problems. My first problem is this. The dpi was messed up when i first install, so i thought no big deal, I'll just go and configure the defaultserverargs setting in the startx script to "-dpi 75". This does not seem to work. Secondly,I can't get gnome to work as my default window manager. I put this line in my .xinitrc file in my home directory:
    exec gnome-session
    I also tried this:
    exec /opt/gnome/bin/gnome-session
    My last problem is that when i try to install the ati fglrx drivers with the stock kernel arch package but whenever the fglrx module is called, it says that the module doesn't exist. One thing i might mension which might be of importance is that i compiled a custom kernel during install without SMP and preemtivity so i could use my rt2500 wireless card. Thanks in advance for the help
    cheers,
    -Lukas

    sinisterguy:  You're going to need to build your own kernel module, afaik you can't just symlink a module built for another kernel and expect it to work.
    As root, run
    abs
    Once that's done (it'll check out a bunch of stuff from cvs), change to your normal user and either make a directory for the new package, or cd to some temp directory, then:
    cp /var/abs/extra/modules/ati-drivers-arch/* .
    vim PKGBUILD
    then make the following changes:
    pkgname=ati-drivers-arch
    to
    pkgname=ati-drivers-custom
    (or whatever you want to call the package)
    depends=('ati-drivers' 'kernel26')
    to
    depends=('ati-drivers')
    source=(https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/fglrx_6_8_0-$pkgver-1.i386.rpm fireglcontrol.desktop)
    to
    source=(http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/fglrx_6_8_0-$pkgver-1.i386.rpm fireglcontrol.desktop)
    (for some reason I can never get the source from the https address through makepkg.)
    and
    _kernel=2.6.15-ARCH
    to
    _kernel=`uname -r`
    Save and quit, then run
    makepkg
    - this'll make you a brand new kernel module package that you can install with
    pacman -A ati-drivers-custom-8.22.5-2.pkg.tar.gz
    You'll need to update this package every update to the ati-drivers in the same way you originally built it.
    If you need more information, ABS is a good place to look, as well as man makepkg.

  • Server 2012 Direct Access Single NIC cant get it to work

    Hi,
    I am having some real issues with setting up Direct Access with Server 2012 and a Windows 8 client, it simply won’t work at all.
    First of all I should describe my setup:
    I have an internet connection with a static IPv4 address on the external network adapter of the router
    The internal network address (the address of the router which has the internet connection) is 192.168.1.1
    Server1 (windows 2008 R2 Standard) has a static IPv4 address 192.168.1.2 and has some ports forwarded from the router (443, 25, 80) this server is a domain controller, email server, and has the DNS, DHCP and
    certificate services
    Server 2 (Windows 2008 R2 standard) has static IPv4 address 192.168.1.3 it has no ports forwarded from the router as it has no services accessed externally, it is used as a file server and print server, backup
    domain controller and backup DNS.
    Server 3 (Windows 2012) has static IPv4 address 192.168.1.4 and has the Remote Access server role installed along with all the other default features and roles it requires in the setup process.
    These servers have all got an IPv6 address which I assume the server has configured automatically, there has been no deliberate configurations made to disable IPv6
    I have no UAG or proxy server or anything else to route packets to internal servers. Just this router which has the option for port forwarding (I assume that’s NAT isn’t it?) sorry don’t know much about that
    area.
    I go through the setup wizard in remote access to configure direct access, in the external URL I have entered da.mydomain.com and created a host A record in my external domain name providers DNS which points
    the da record to my external IP address. The wizard creates all the GPO’s, scoped correctly, and applied to a Windows 8 client. The operational status shows its all working and I got green ticks. However, when I connect the client to the internal network it
    doesn’t seem to have correctly got the DA settings. I run the following in powershell
    Get-DnsClientNrptPolicy
    Nothing displays – at all
    Get-NCSIPolicyConfiguration

    I go into services.msc and find that the network connectivity assistant is not started, it wont start either something must trigger it but I have no idea how to get it triggered to start… this might be my only
    source of problem perhaps but on a more network level question:
    If I have such ports as 80, and 443 (which I assume DA uses in some form with a public IPv4 internet address) directed at server 1, how does the DA connection get to server 3 which has the DA role installed?
    I could create another record on the server which also opens port 443 to server as well as for server 1, but then how would the router know which server to pass the DA connection to if the same port is open for two different servers?
    Either way, this first issue is that the client doesn’t seem to have the ability to connect internally correctly yet, so maybe this connectivity service is a good place to start? My understanding is that the
    networks icon in the system tray should show that there is a corporate connection, but it doesn’t. also, the client seems to have the NLS certificate in the computer certificate store, so the cert side of things is working and the GPO side is working.
    Many thanks
    Steve

    ahh i see, so just to enlighten me even further...
    If a company has two web servers that would mean they would need two different public facing IP addresses so they can route to each internal web server. If, like the big companies have, they
    may have many web servers (possibly more than 100) I’m assuming that simply buying more public IP addresses would have a limit, especially since the IPv4 address space is pretty much exhausted. So is this where proxy systems come into play like ISA and Forefront,
    is this what they do?
    I assume if such a product was implemented you could go down to just one or two public IP addresses, point all traffic to the ISA server and that in turn would do all the routing of packets
    to each server behind the NAT/router (probably based on some sort of domain name or sub domain namespace as it’s parameter for forwarding?)
    Secondly, what I have done is installed windows server 2012 and used that as a direct access client (I read on another forum that the windows 8 RP doesn’t have the enterprise bits to make this
    work). I have got much further with the 2012 server acting as a client (installed on laptop, installed desktop experience and wireless LAN),
    but when I run the following command on my DA client I get the following status
    Get-DAConnectionStatus
    Status:
    connectedlocally
    Substatus:
    none
    This appears to work fine, when im connected to the local network. But then I disconnect and run the command again and I get the following:
    Status:
    Error
    Substatus:
    NameResolutionFailure
    On my router what I did is temporarily disable port 443 going to my original server and instead opened it up pointing to my other server, so 443 traffic should be going to my DA server now, but I don’t understand why its giving the name resolution failure
    status. I have a host A record called “da” with my domain hoster, and entered the full domain namespace in the DA wizard as da.mydomain.com (the Host A record has been up there for more than a week so it’s propagated through the net)
    So, a bit further but stuck again.

  • Can't get Firefox to work properly behind corporate proxy

    I am forced to use Firefox behind our corporate proxy and have to continually make exceptions just to get to sites, but even this doesn't always work. I don't know much about certificates, but I know certificates are issued by our organization for each user and device. I've tried exporting the personal certificate from IE and importing it into Firefox without success (couldn't export certificate completely and in correct format for Firefox) and am not sure if I'm even taking the right approach. IE is our only approved browser and I'm sure part of the reason is that proxy settings can be forced via group policy. I've tried adding a certificate exception to Firefox for our proxy, but Firefox is "Unable to obtain identification for this site". Is there any way to get Firefox to function correctly in this environment or somehow get Firefox to work through IE?

    I think most proxies work the same way: they generate a fake certificate for the website and present that to your browser so they can decrypt and inspect the traffic between you and the site. It's a hassle having to make exceptions for the individual fake certificates -- it's more efficient to recognize the certificate the proxy uses to ''sign'' the fake certificates as a valid certificate authority.
    The trick is identifying that certificate. It might be easiest to do from IE or Chrome, since both use the Windows certificate store (Firefox uses its own). By inspecting the certificate for a secure site and the certificate used to sign it, you may be able to identify and export that certificate (DER or .cer format).
    In Firefox, you would import that into the Authorities section of the Certificates dialog:
    "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > Certificates mini-tab > "View Certificates" button > Authorities mini-tab > "Import..." button
    Of course, it probably is safest to verify with your IT that you've found and exported the correct certificate before importing it into Firefox.

  • Can't get iCloud to work properly from new MBP.

    I recently bought a new MBP and gave my old one to my wife. I deleted the calendar and contact info from my old MBP since she didn't need it. Only I didn't realize that it would also delete all the information from my new MBP that I had initialized from a Time Machine back-up.
    But now, I can't get thinks back to normal. I had recently upgraded my old MBP to Mavericks, so I posted my questions there on the assumption that the problem was with Mavericks. I now think the problem is with iCloud, so I'm posting here as well.
    Here's my tale of woe ...
    First, I tried restoring my back-ups, but the restored info would literally disappear with 2-3 seconds of being reloaded. I sat there and watched my contacts appear, then disappear. Three times. The Mavericks folks made some suggestions about deleting files from the Application Support Folder. No help. Same results. Watched my contacts load and then disappear 3 more times.
    So I decided to start more-or-less from scratch. I deleted my iCloud account from both my MBP and my iPad. I then reloaded my calendar and my contacts from the back-ups on my MBP. Everything fine so far. All calendar items are there. All contacts are there.
    I re-added the iCloud account on my MBP. Still okay. Contacts and calendar info still there. However, System Preferences would not allow me to check the box next to "calendar." It said "setting up" then stopped and unchecked the Calendar box. I am also unable to enable the iCloud account within Calendar preferences.
    I re-added my account on my iPad. No calendar info, but that didn't surprise me because the calendar wouldn't connect from my Mac.
    But the Contacts on the iPad included ONLY those contacts that I had added from the previous recipients window after my last back-up. None of the contacts that had come from my previous back-up were there even though they were on my MBP. So I tried unchecking the box in System Preferences. All of my contacts disappeared from my MBP. None disappeared from my iPad.
    So at this point, my iPad becomes a games machine. I can't get my contacts to it. I can't my calendar to it. Email is no good without my contacts.

    The iCloud Calendar  and Time Machine don't play nice together. If you accidentally delete your calendars,  they are deleted on iCloud: you restore the cached versions from TM, and iCloud promptly brings them up to date by deleting them again.
    However it is possible to restore from Time Machine (or another backup system if it's included your calendars) by following the following steps:
    Turn off your internet connection. Make sure that it really is completely off.
    Restore from Time Machine or your backup. This should restore your calendars to list under your iCloud username.
    Now carry out this process with each calendar:
    Select a calendar listed under your iCloud login name.
    From the File menu choose Export...>Export. An .ics file will be saved at your designated destination.
    Create a new calendar with the same name as the one you've just exported from, choosing 'On My Mac'.
    From the File menu choose Import... Select the .ics file and choose to import it into the calendar you just created (make sure you don't import it into the iCloud version).
    Now your calendars are listed under 'On My Mac' as well as under your iCloud login name.
    Reconnect to the internet. Your iCloud calendars will disappear as before. Now carry out the following process with each of the 'On My Mac' calendars:
    Select your 'On My Mac' calendar. From the File menu choose 'Export...' then 'Export...'; from the sub-menu. This will create an .ics file at the location chosen in the Export dialog.
    From the File menu choose 'New Calendar' then your iCloud login name in the sub menu.
    A new calendar called 'Untitled' will appear in your sidebar under your iCloud login name. Change its name to that of the calendar you exported.
    From the File menu choose 'Import...' then 'Import...' from the sub-menu. A navigation pane will open: navigate to and choose your exported .ics file.
    iCal will ask you where to import this to. Click the drop-down menu and select the iCloud version of your calendar (make sure not to choose the 'On My Mac' version). Import.
    Your calendar contents will appear in the iCloud version of the calendar but this may take some time. You need to leave iCal running until the rotating icon at the top of the sidebar disappears.
    You can now delete the 'On My Mac' version of the calendar (control-click it in the sidebar list and choose 'Delete').
    You should back up your calendars periodically by exporting the .ics files as in step 1 above and keeping them safely.

  • I can't get anything to work properly in Beta 4.0.3 help?

    Tabs are not working properly, when I open a Tab up I get blank screen and when I select a site from Bookmarks it loads on the first tab instead of the tab I opened up. and when I click the X to close the Tabs I opened it won't close. and everything else ceases to work. I can't open Feedback to submit feedback about this bug, nor can I access Add-Ons to see whats Enabled and what's not.
    I should of stuck with Beta 4.0.2 instead of upgrading to Beta 4.0.3 because everything was working fine then until this new update destroyed Firefox. I'm going to have to use another browser until this is fixed, because I can't use a browser like this. There's just too many bugs now. :/

    That could be an add-on that is causing the problem, there were some changes to Firefox between beta 2 and 3 that would break some add-ons.
    Start Firefox in [[safe mode]], in the dialog that pops up select the option to "Disable all add-ons" then click on "Make Changes and Restart".
    Then in normal mode you should be able to access the add-ons manager and you can then check for updates to the add-ons. You can also re-enable them one at a time, re-starting Firefox each time to identify the add-on(s) that are not working. Also see the [[troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article.

  • Can't get HAL to work properly

    Hello everybody! This is the first distro I've ever tried which gives you substantial control over the installation process, and I like that a lot, but there are some things I probably didn't manage to do well. One of those is getting HAL to work as I tell it to via policies. I need for it to recognize my italian keyboard layout and automount ntfs partitions. I followed the instructions on the wiki, but I probably messed up, so can somebody briefly sum up the steps I need to make HAL do what I need?

    Neo_The_User wrote:
    i love being in-depth explaining everything so i'm sorry if i couldn't make it as breif as you wanted it to be
    as root or sudo:
    pacman -Syy
    pacman -Syu
    pacman -Sy hal dbus fam
    nano /etc/rc.conf
    In DAEMONS it should look like this (sort of:)
    DAEMONS=(!syslog-ng !netfs !crond network fam hal dbus alsa gdm)
    DAEMONS=(syslog-ng  crond network fam dbus hal  alsa )
    but basically it depends on what services you want to run.
    starting gdm in inittab is better.
    Now you can turn hal on 2 different ways. Reboot or just turn on. To turn on without reboot:
    /etc/hal restart
    /etc/rc.d/hal start
    (You should probably turn on dbus too)
    /etc/dbus restart
    (And fam)
    /etc/fam restart
    everything is  /etc/rc.d/daemonname start
    Now after you do all that do this as root (log in AS root because it will be easier for me to tell you what exactly you need to do)
    Xorg -configure
    Now I forget off the top of my head what the exact location is so if it says No such file or directory in the first command, do the second one:
    cp -L -vi /root/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf
    No luck? Try this:
    cp -L -vi /home/root/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf
    There is no /home/root
    Now you can install gdm and X and all that:
    pacman -Sy gdm
    Replace gnome with lxde or xfce4 or whatever
    pacman -Sy gnome
    Now fonts:
    pacman -Sy ttf-bitstream-vera ttf-dejavu ttf-ms-fonts ttf-liberation
    Turn on ntfs in DAEMONS though as I have mine off. Take the exclamation point out.
    Hope that works!
    I hope you meant netfs or nfsd here. ntfs-3g doesn't need a daemon AFAIK

    If you truly must use wpa-config, make sure there are no directives in the config file outside your network block.  Netcfg cannot use wpa_supplicant files that do, and it prints a similar error message if I remember correctly.  Also, you may still need to specify your ESSID in the profile, as stated above.
    But! Consider just using "SECURITY='wpa'" or "SECURITY='wpa-configsection'" instead of "SECURITY='wpa-config'"  Netcfg will generate a wpa_supplicant config file and use wpa_supplicant to manage the connection.  Netcfg comes with example syntax for it, and it's much simpler.

  • Can't get Apple TV working properly (no airplay)

    I have cable broadband via Ethernet into my iMac. I've set up wifi sending out from the iMac and have iPad, iPhone and now apple tv all online via wifi. Seems fine. I can see and play stuff from my iMac on Apple tv (and all the rest seems fine YouTube, iTunes store etc). I am definitely all up to date with software. Now heres the prob. I can't get airplay working and (unrelated but similarly) my remote app (on iPhone) can't find apple tv anymore?! I've restarted everything, no luck. So took apple tv to work and got everything working fine. Airplay worked, remote app worked. So WHAT is the problem at home? Why can't I get airplay working at home? What is wrong with my network and wifi etc? There are no firewalls.

    You will need to see what the problem is with your local network. More details would help. Try calling apple support, ISP etc. as well

    Hell guys,
    I just installed the wacom drivers from the aur and followed the wiki documentation to get it al working.
    But badly, it doesn't If I move the stylus above my wacom tablet the mouse is moving, but when I click (hit the wacom) the mouse suddenly stops moving :S I just don't understand why... This way i'm unable to draw stuff with my wacom.
    And another thing, I have 2 screens setup in dualscreen mode, how do I get my wacom only work on the first screen ?
    fyi, I added this lines to the ServerLayout section:
    InputDevice "pad" "SendCoreEvents"
    InputDevice "cursor" "SendCoreEvents"
    InputDevice "stylus" "SendCoreEvents"
    InputDevice "eraser" "SendCoreEvents"
    And added the following sections to xorg.conf:
    Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "stylus"
    Driver "wacom"
    Option "Type" "stylus"
    Option "Device" "/dev/input/event6"
    Option "USB" "on"
    Option "Mode" "Absolute"
    Option "Vendor" "WACOM"
    Option "Threshold" "5"
    EndSection
    Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "eraser"
    Driver "wacom"
    Option "Type" "eraser"
    Option "Device" "/dev/input/event6"
    Option "USB" "on"
    Option "Mode" "Absolute"
    Option "Vendor" "WACOM"
    Option "Threshold" "5"
    EndSection
    Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "cursor"
    Driver "wacom"
    Option "Type" "cursor"
    Option "Device" "/dev/input/event6"
    Option "USB" "on"
    Option "Mode" "Absolute"
    Option "Vendor" "WACOM"
    EndSection

    Use the stable version of linuxwacom (0.8.0-blah) rather than the development version (0.8.1-blah).
    Here's a PKGBUILD:
    # Contributor: Ilya Galushko <[email protected]>
    pkgname=linuxwacom
    pkgver=0.8.0.3
    _pkgver=0.8.0-3
    pkgrel=1
    pkgdesc="drivers for Wacom tablets"
    arch=('i686' 'x86_64')
    url="http://linuxwacom.sourceforge.net/"
    license=('GPL' 'LGPL')
    depends=('libxi' 'ncurses' 'tk' 'pixman')
    options=('!libtool' '!emptydirs')
    install=linuxwacom.install
    source=(http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/linuxwacom/$pkgname-$_pkgver.tar.bz2
    10-wacom.rules)
    build() {
    cd "$srcdir/$pkgname-$_pkgver"
    cp ChangeLog $startdir
    ./configure --prefix=/usr
    make || return 1
    make DESTDIR="$pkgdir" install
    install -D -m 644 "$startdir/10-wacom.rules" "$pkgdir/etc/udev/rules.d/10-wacom.rules"
    # vim:set ts=2 sw=2 et:
