Server app - Groups not listing members

Lion Server 10.7.2
Individual Users do not display their group membership and Groups do not display there individual members. It is a bit frustrating for admin purposes as I need to see what users are members of what groups.
Server is currently only running AFP and SMB which functions correctly as do the shares and their applicable permissions for the users and groups.

Same problem. I had to rebuild my LDAP database and when I imported the users and groups, they appear in Workgroup Manager but they don't appear in Server app. Well..   they do sometimes.  If I click the "Add Users" button, sometimes they'll appear briefly then go away in Server app. I can also edit a user and look at their group membership via Server app and the groups from Workgroup Manager appear but they are grayed out...  also, the users from the LDAP server will disappear at first and I have to click on another button, like "Configure Network" and then click back on "Add Users" and the network users will be there...  but no group.
This is crazy.  It's like working on a '74 Chevy Vega.  Did ANYONE at Apple QA this?

  • Server App does not change SMB AFP option as expected

I have been fighting SMB shares on Mac OS since upgrading to Mountain Lion (I skipped Lion) and I think I have the situation figure out at least in my case.
First Opportunistic Locking needs to be turned off in Windows 7. It does not appear that Mac OS supports it and this is why my connection got disconnected.
In the regestry at, [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\LanmanWorkstation\Paramet e rs] add this,  "OpLocksDisabled"=dword:00000001
Now for the SMB shares for people using the Server App. The Server App. is where you setup shares but I think there is a bug. In my case the Server App. was not actually turning on SMB and/or AFP services for the users listed in the server permissions. I had to go to Sharing under System Preferences then select the share I want the service to apply to then select Options. I found that the SMB and AFP services were not enabled even though they had been set in the Server App. Once I enabled them all was as it should be.

I have just installed Mountain Lion and received a message "speech synthesis server.app could not be opened because it is damaged or incomplete", please can you advise me what to do next? Thanks

Something went wrong with your upgrade.
Back up all data, then reinstall the OS. You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it.

  • HT201299 After installing an app on iPhone 5s, I can't use it outside of wifi (using cellular or mobile data) and the app is not listed in settings to enable its use of mobile data - any clues on what is wrong here?

After installing an app on iPhone 5s, I can't use it outside of wifi (using cellular or mobile data) and the app is not listed in settings to enable its use of mobile data - any clues on what is wrong here?

Steps to take to resolve this issue:
    1/  Turn off Wifi
2/  Ensure Mobile (cellular) data is on
3/  Turn iPhone OFF and then ON (re-boot iPhone)
4/  Without turning Wifi on, open an app that requires mobile (cellular) data.
5/  The app will now show on the Settings list with the option to enable or disable mobile (cellular) data
6/  In time all apps that require or use mobile data will be added to the list automatically.

  • Server.app does not authenticate network admin users

Running fresh installation of Lion Server 10.7.3. I'm logged in as the original, local, administrator.
I open Server.app and successfully log in to the local machine with the local administrator creditials. I create a networked user allowed to administer the machine. Close Server.app window.
Attempt to log in as the new networked administrator. I get a message about using the server's self-signed certificate. I click accept, then the log-in shakes it head, won't let network admin log-in. Repeated attempts to log in do not show the certificate warning -- the log-in fails every time, though.
Attempt to log is as local admin, works OK.
    How to fix?

Hi Stefan, I have the Server app problem here on my Xserve 2009 and it happened after about 14 days of working correctly. No users or groups(850 network) show in the panes other than the two local admin users on the server. The +/- buttons are greyed out also. If you enter some letters for a search in Users/Groups it will actually display the network users containing the letters and eventually it populates the window with network users up to the usual 500+ limit but refresh and they all disappear again. Thinking back before it happened I used WGM to add a new user instead of Server and it was shortly after when the users "disappeared" and the+- buttons greyed out. I dont have much confidence in Server app at the moment and im just glad WGM/SA is still in operation. I agree with Danny_Sch that Server app starts to act strangely after using WGM
WGM acts as usual with all my 850 users showing from the OD and Server admin shows all my services running ok. All users can log in and out fortunately at the moment. This happened initially when I migrated to Lion and I had to use my OD archive demoting and promoting to master to get it to work but I dont want to have to rebuild the whole thing again as we have very limited downtime to do it in a big institution etc. I'm trawling the net looking for a fix but no definitive answer. Has anyone reported this as a bug to Apple I wonder?

  • TS3960 After upgrading to Lion server 10.7.4, Server.app does not start.

I upgraded from 10.6.8 Server.  The Mac OS 10.7.4 starts fine, but when attempting to launch 'Server' (which does appear in the launchpad) nothing happens (the application does not start).
    I checked for this:
sh-3.2# sudo launchctl list | grep -q com.apple.servermgrd && echo loaded || echo not loaded
    loaded
Thank you in advance for any help on this front. AV

    I got solution.After I reset the Server.App i could able to login the Server.App.

  • I am unable to send mail on my IPad because the iPad ignores the single correctly configures outgoing server and instead looks for long since deleted outgoing server which is not listed in my settings at all.

Some time ago I used to use an outgoing mail server, which I will call 'XYZ'.  However I changed email providers and now have a new outgoing server which I will call 'ABC'. I tried deleting that old outgoing server when I changed email providers but had problems doing so.  So what I did was completely delete all email accounts from my iPad and then reinstalled the two new email accounts from scratch, complete with the new outgoing server 'ABC'.  That appeared to be successful, and I can receive email OK.  Also the new server 'ABC' is the ONLY outgoing server listed in my settings on either account
However despite the new server being the only one in my settings the iPad will not send mail and shows an error message saying that the settings for the OLD server 'XYZ' are incorrect.  I cannot amend or delete that server as it has already been deleted and is not listed in my settings.
It is like the iPad is somehow still remembering that old server and thinks it's the primary one.  Or it's getting old server info fron iCloud or something.
My iPhone has the same two email accounts and identical settings and does not have this issue.
Any ideas, other than a complete factory reset?
    Many thanks
    Rob

  • Windows Server 2012 Essentials not listed in EasyStartup 3.8.1d for TS140

Recently purchased a TS140 (70A4 001RUS). Came factory installed RAID 1 with Windows Server 2012 Essentials pre-installed. Needed to reinstall, however:
    - Windows Server 2012 Essentials does not show up in EasyStartup 3.8.1c DVD that came with server
    - Downloaded latest EasyStartup 3.8.1d and created bootable DVD and ran with same result
    - "Windows Server 2012" is listed (but not Essentials). Running this installation, it does not recognize the Windows Server 2012 Essentials External Recovery DVD that came with server. Continually asks to insert "Windows Server 2012" disk.
    - "Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials" is listed (but not 2012 Essentials). Running this installation, it does not recognize the Windows Server 2012 Essentials External Recovery DVD that came with server. Continually asks to insert "Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials" disk.
    - Have booted using UEFI, Legacy and Auto with no difference
    - Ran lastest Firmware Updater v1.8.1013 - no updates listed as required
    - Have updated BIOS to latest 70A
    - Server will also not boot directly from Windows Server 2012 Essentials External Recovery DVD (dvd is set 1st in boot order in bios)
    - Windows Server 2012 Essentials External Recovery DVD is readable on other machines - can copy to bootable USB key and run regular Windows installation on server (this is current workaround)
    - using the above workaround, drivers must be installed manually.
    - EasyStartup 3.8.1d Readme specificly lists Windows Server 2012 Essentials as supported on the TS140 in UEFI and Legacy mode here
As mentioned, the above workaround can work. However, this server may not always be maintained by myself and I would prefer the supplied software to acutally work properly for ease of use by others in the future.

I have several TS140s running WSE 2012 R2.  Like you said, the easystart does not recognize properly the WSE R2 os, so I just did the basic from disc or USB install after I configured the boot drives or RAID1 array.
The main reason to load the easy start is for drivers, however WSE found and recognized all the hardware in the unit.

  • Previously purchased apps are not listed in the app store app on my new iphone 5.

My husband's new iphone 5 was set up at the apple store.  His apps are on the phone, but some don't work.  For example, his Navigon app was there, but wouldn't work.  So, he uninstalled it.  When he tried to reinstall the app, the app store did not list it as previously purchased.  In fact, most of his apps were missing from the list.  He was able to install it by connecting to the computer, but it still doesn't show up on his app store list.  This could be a problem if he needed to download something when he's away from home.  Today he purchased two songs on itunes.  They show on the computer, but wouldn't download to his iphone.  Somehow, itunes is not recognizing his new iphone as an authorized device.  What can we do?

Be sure the phone is sign into the Apple ID used to purchase these apps in Settings>iTunes & App Stores.  Otherwise the past purchases will not appear.

  • Server app will not load

My server was running fine with the following services enabled: Mail, Calender, Contacts, DNS, Websites, Open Directory, Messages, SUS.
I believe a power cut shut down the machine (mac mini server) over the weekend, and it didn't boot back up.
When I started the machine, it logged in fine and the desktop environment was fine.
When I started the server app, it booted up, but warned me that some services were unavailable. I noted that only 3 services appeared to be ON (DNS, Webites, and Calender (I think)). When I tried to turn the other services ON I got an error, but cant remember what it was (I know this doesnt help). The error was the same for all of the services I tried.
When I went onto the services that were already ON, I got the same error, and they turned OFF.
So I deleted the server.app, trashed it, and reinstalled from the app store (after a shut down and reboot)
When I start the server.app now, it prompts me to 'Set up your Server' as you would expect.
    I can continue past this
    Agreed to this, obviously.
I am then prompted to put my admin U/N and P/W in
I put my usual details in here (they were already inputted anyway)
It goes through the usual configuring of services
    and finally completes:
When I press Finish, nothing happens, other than the 'Go Back' button becoming available.
Going back does nothing. The only wasy to get rid of this box, is to go to the toolbar and quit there.
So, my server was working fine - and now I cant get access to it.
It appears that some of the services are running (well, websites are), as these can be seen from other machines (and not cached).
As for backups - I'm not running TM so cant roll back, but have files if the last resort is to format.......but I dont want to go down that route - obviously.
Any ideas on how to get past this - and even why it happened?

    Thanks for the suggestion keg55.
As I couldnt open the server app, I wouldn't have been able to turn the services off easily (I take it it can be done via command line).
I resorted to a nice clean install, and selective restoration of my backup, so a nice clean image to begin again with. Thanks for the advice though.

  • Defining Virtual Hosts so the Server App does not hijack them?

Does anyone know how one might define manually define virtualhosts in Lion Server so the OS does not go and trash them, or mess with the conf files? Right now the server keeps stealing any virtual hosts I create manually and creating conf files to the standard of the Server App. The problem is I have several virtual hosts that have custom information in them and I need to restore the file whenever this happens. Any ideas?

Put all your config files in something unknown to Apple. I like to use 'vhosts' instead of 'sites'.
Then just add this to your httpd.conf...
    Include /private/etc/apache2/vhosts/*.conf
I would keep a copy of your httpd.conf at all times. Apple likes to wipe that out on system updates.

  • Server app replacement not detected - how to force?

I just applied the OS X Server 4.1 (I was running 4.0.3 previously) on a 10.10.3 system. But the 'server app replace, emit detected' message has not appeared (even after 10 minutes and 1 reboot for another software update). If I launch 'Server' it still says 4.0.3 in About.
So it seems my server is in some kind of limbo state with a pending server update. How can I force it to recognise the new server app and start the normal migration process?
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
Put the current server.app in the trash, reboot and download the new server.app 4.1 from your app store recent purchases.
Trashing the app might already give you a replacement message.
    That should do the trick.
    Goodluck
    Jeffrey

  • Mountain Lion with OS X Server server.app is not recognizing my admin password, Mountain Lion with OS X Server server.app is not recognizing my admin password

Server.app 2.2 working for months will not recognize admin password.  My internet connection went down, when I was abe to recover the connection my admin password no longer worked to open server.app.  I checked the keychain and found "Mac OS X Server Administration: My Domain Name" the password save there it the same as the on I was entering.  In even tryed to copy and paste, but ths Server.app rejects it.  How do I get access to Server.app again?

If I save the page as a web archive and then open it MS Word - I see the following text at the bottom:
    <div class="noscript"> To use wikis, enable JavaScript.</div>
JavaScript is enabled - via Tools / Internet Options / Security - the checkbox for Active Scripts is set to enabled.

  • Server.app "Could not connect to the server."

I just downloaded and installed Mountain Lion (the day after its release).  It seems fine so far.
The next day I decided to install Mac OS X Server, so I dished out $20 and downloaded it from the App Store.
"setting up your server is incredibly simple" - Yeah okay. This is exactly what I do:
    1) Open server. The "Set up your server" screen comes up.
    2) Click "Continue".
    3) Click "Agree".
    4) Authenticate
I get a dialog box that slides down and says, "Could not connect to the server." The only option is "OK".
    5) I select Manage->Connect to server..., and choose "This mac" from the list and click "Continue". It brings me back to the same screen that I started with.
    6) Repeat 1-4. Same results, except that the application exits (gracefully - but with no feedback).
There aren't many options at all and I can see nothing else I can even try. I'm on a Mac Pro connected wirelessly to a Time Capsule.  I also have a MacBook Pro, which curiously got further than I could get on the Mac Pro.  Both computers are connected wirelessly to the same network and configured the same (as far as I can tell).  The Mac Pro has far superior hardware compared to the MacBook Pro.  (MP: 6-Core 3.33 Xeon / 24GB RAM/ 1TB HD / MBP: 1 Core2 Duo 2.4 GHz, 4 MB RAM, 160 GB HD).  Both computers are running Mountain Lion.
I'm completely new to using OS X Server.  I figured I could learn something with it for only $20.  If I left out any important details, please let me know.
There's no documentation out there for this new product and I could find nobody else who has had any similar issues. Any help is greatly appreciated.

It works now but here's the thing...
When I was at home with my Mac Pro on the wireless is when it wouldn't work.  I was able to install and get further on my MacBook Pro (which is much older) on the same wireless.
I brought my Mac Pro to work (different LAN), connected it to the wired connection, and tried the Server software.  Same results - "Could not connect to server."
I had a few other issues with crashing and for some reason my Terminal was displaying "brucetablet:" at the command prompt.  I bought the computer used and it came with Lion pre-installed.  I upgraded to Mountain Lion and it just seemed like a lot of weirdness, so I decided to wipe the hard drive and do a clean install of Mountain Lion.
After the clean install, I tried again and it seems like it works just fine.
That annoying "brucetablet:" is still there though (which I guess is a topic for another thread).

  • HT201272 What if the app is not listed in the purchased section?

I was trying to remove some trivia packs on the scene it 2 movie app by deleting and restoring (as suggested in the app) and now I can't find it in my purchased apps list in the app store so I can restore it.  It's not even listed as an app to purchase anymore.  I can't find any of my scene it apps listed (but only deleted scene it 2).

If it's no longer in your country's store then you won't be able to re-download it (you could wait a day or two to see if it re-appearsand/or try contacting the app developer). Do you have a copy of it on your computer's iTunes and/or on a backup that you could sync back to your iPad ?
