Server servlet

hi.
we want to make a servlet which will function as a server for 2*n clients.
the server should connect between two clients and let them do what it is they want.
the idea we have is this:
the servlet will start another class (which is not a servlet) for each client pair, this class will be a thread and should handle the connection between those two clients.
the questions:
can we create some kind of socket out of the data we have from the servlet, i.e.: HttpServletResponse, HttpServletRequest.... ????
how can we make the two clients talk without the servlet?

No, doesn't sound like it would work.
For one, the value returned from the getRemoteAddr() may or may not be a Proxy, there is not way for you to tell. Or the user may be one of several computers to connect via a router, or connection sharing. In These cases, all the computers on the local network would have the same IP to you, and there would be no way for you to select the specific computer where the request originated.
Then, if the user has a firewall (and you better assume he does) then all incoming connections are going to be blocked, unless the user 1) specifically allows traffic over that port, and 2) has a server running to answer requests on the port you use.
So, if you are looking to have a closed system with control of all the users systems, and know for a fact that all the conditions can be avoided, then this approach won't work. There will also be problems with using Applets to listen to a port. But you could get the applet signed and that would probably help.
Otherwise, you will have to make the user (client) send a request directly to your chat driver (server). That is how client-servers work.
I am not exactly sure how much you have read on the Pushlet idea. But it acts pretty much like a socket - initiated from the user - to your server. You would simply use it as a gateway for your other server class. The two applets could make HTTP requests to the servlet, the servlet takes the two requests and moves them to a Pushlet environment, calls your server class and hands it hooks to the Pushlets for input/output.
I am not too familiar with Pushlets, but it seems to me the only way to go if you want to use the same server as the intermediate.
another idea would be to simply create a separate, non-http server that listens to a different port and handles chat applications with sockets. Wether it is servlet based or not, it is probably easier to not be... The (signed probably) applets would still have to open sockets to this other server.

    Currently there is no option to turn off security check.
    I think you can use a servlet filter mapped to the URL
    of your service, instead of a proxy servlet?

  • Query on "serve servlet by class name" in weblogic

    Dear Experts,
    We are migrating our application from WebSphere application server/Jboss application server to Weblogic Application server 10.3
    I have the below query,
    One of our applications uses a number of servlets and all of them are not declared in the web deployment descriptor.
    The application makes calls to these servlets internally using relative url based on user actions. So, all these url contains the servlet class names.
    Application url looks like the below:
    https://mymachine.com:8443/MyApp/servlet/com.myApp.Test
    and the /servlet/ is responsible for invoking the successive servlets.
    In WebSphere application server, it provides a feature called "serveservletbyClassName" which enables the applications to work properly. and in Jboss application server, there is something called an invoker servlet to invoke the same. But when I moved to weblogic, I am forced to add all the servlets mapping in to web.xml. Could you please suggest any options where I can continue working with my application without adding the servlet mappings in web.xml?
    Please help me to resolve this.

  • Delaying server [servlet] response

    I'm using AJAX to update my div tag telling me if a username is valid / invalid. I've tried using wait(long) to pause the doGet thread , init thread and start thread but I get the following warning:
    "Current thread not owner"
    Who's the owner or "main" thread? I've also tried respone.wait and request.wait but the same exception is being thrown. Or is there a different way to delay the servlets response, or is this impossible with XML?

    it sort of sounds to me like you're used to thick
    client gui programming - not sure why - but trying to
    control the number of hits to a database in a web
    app
    by messing with javascript controls smells a bit (it
    may be because of the nature of AJAX which I admit I
    haven't used). Embedding in depth knowledge of the
    back end in the front end is always a bit odd.
    Would it not be better to implement this sort of
    control (as in programmatic logic) server side ? Is
    there a need for an AJAX request to hit a database
    each time ? Might create an awful load (maybe this is
    what you're addressing). Perhaps some cached server
    side data structure might be of better use than
    trying to hack the front end in this fashion.Basically I'm going to use AJAX for the its look and feel, even if it isn't necessary. The load was what the other person brought up so I thought I could test it by slowing things down because I can't simulate 1,000 simultaneous connections. I'm not really worried about it because I figured that AJAX might actually help an over loaded server.     I would like to learn how to disable or rename Oracle Report Server's servlet command?
    This is to avoid user from accessing http://myserver/reports/rwservlet/showmap to view the key map file content.
    Please advise.

    or example, my report server was rep_appserver, then i want to rename it to rep_test.
    Here some step to accomplish it,
    1. stop mid-tier
    $ORACLE_HOME\opmn\bin\opmnctl stopall
    2. stop em website
    $ORACLE_HOME\bin\emctl stop iasconsole
    3. rename $ORACLE_HOME\reports\conf\rep_<old_report_server_name>.conf to something else or delete it
    4. rename $ORACLE_HOME\reports\server\rep_<old_report_server_name>.dat to something else or delete it
    5. edit $ORACLE_HOME\reports\conf\rwservlet.properties file then change the SERVER parameter to new report server name(remember this new name has to be a unique name)
    6. create a backup copy of the $ORACLE_HOME\sysman\emd\targets.xml file
    7. open $ORACLE_HOME\sysman\emd\targets.xml, find old report server name and then replace it to new report server name
    8. save new targets.xml file
    9. open $ORACLE_HOME\opmn\conf\opmn.xml, old report server name and then replace it to new report server name
    10. start em website
    $ORACLE_HOME\bin\emctl start iasconsole
    11. start mid-tier
    $ORACLE_HOME\opmn\bin\opmnctl startall

  • Server servlet help

    we are running oracle IAS 8i which seems to just be Apache with Jserv modules loaded. Now the problem is my co-worker when ever she updates her servlets, she has to restart the apache instance. Instead of creating a new daemon for development purposes, surely there is a way to automatically load the new servlets, is there?

    I think there is an element in conf that has an attribute called reloadable you need to set it to true
    For example...
    <Context path="/examples" docBase="webapps/examples" crossContext="false" debug="0" reloadable="true" > </Context>
    This way, the server will automaticaly reload servlet classes that changed.

  • File server servlet

    Hi all,
    I'm writing a servlet which has to serve images/picture's. For instance emoticons.
    I found the excellent help from [BalusC : FileServlet|http://balusc.blogspot.com/2007/07/fileservlet.html] The servlet itself works fine (Thank you BalusC)
    However it only servers the images from :
    $CATALINA_HOME/bin
    So if I ask for (for instance) http://localhost:8080/socnet/icons/cool_icon.gif it works only if $CATALINA_HOME/bin/icons/icon_cool.gif
    What I want is that this picture is served from the deployed application ($CATALINA_HOME/webapps/socnet/icons/icon_cool.gif)
    I can't seem to find how to accomplish this.
    So if anyone has any pointers...shoot

  • Help!!! Sending serialized object to another server/servlet

    I am trying to simply send a serialized bean to a servlet on another server. I have lot's of examples of doing this as a stream and recieving back a stream to output, trouble is, I want to do this as a means of communicating the state of a process from one application kicking off the process on the new application. So when the page is returned, I need to be located on the new server. Here is the stream code I'm using:

    How would I do this if I wanted to send and not come back to the original server?

    Why not create a little daemon to run on Server B (using the Servlet API would make this really easy) that listens for requests from Server A. The Servlet running on Server A would:
    1. Do whatever it needs to do
    2. Open an HttpURLConnection to Server B, use the getOutputStream() method to get a pipe to write serialized data to, couple it with an ObjectOutputStream, and write the session object to it.
    3. Use the sendRedirect() method to redirect the client to Server B.
    Upon receiving a request, the Servlet on Server B would:
    1. Call Servlet.getInputStream() to get the input stream to read objects from.
    2. Couple this with an ObjectInputStream to read objects from.
    3. Read the session object and cast it to the appropriate type.
    4. Stash the session object in a global lookup so it can be retrieved when the client arrives. I don't think the session can be created at this point because the request doesn't originate from the browser.
    Then, finally, the Servlet running on Server B that handles client requests would:
    1. Create a new session
    2. Retrieve the session object from the global data store and stash it in session.
    3. Go on its merry way.

    I have configured a DSN with the name "fadd" on the machine with the application server and it used NT authentication. I have supplied an NT userid and password that has appropriate rights on the database "cashbook".
    When I write a java standalone program, it does connect but via a servlet it does not connect.
    Can some guide me with this problem please ?
    Anything one might have observed in the past ? (may be specific to iPlanet ?)

    I'm using iPlanet App server as well and experiencing similar problem. I load my SQL Server driver by Class.forName("com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver"), then use DriverManager.getDriver() to obtain the Driver.
    However, the Driver returned is not the SQLServerDriver as expected. The Driver returned is com.netscape.server.jdbc.Driver! And then when I do Driver.getConnection("jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://MyServer"), it throws an SQLException saying that it doesn't accept a jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver subprotocol. Well, of course it doesn't, it's not a microsoft Driver at all.
    I suspect the problem is that the netscape Driver's acceptsURL() method ALWAYS returns true in iPlanet app server, thus when you getDriver(), the netscape Driver is always returned (and always returned as the first one since it's default?). Thus even though the same piece of code works fine as a standalone application, it just doesn't work on iPlanet app server.
    My work around is:

    Mind that my above code does not have an performance issue. If you look into the source code of how DriverManager get a Driver for a particular URL, it also loads the whole set of available Drivers, then call acceptsURL() method on each of them to find the first "suitable" one. Thus time complexity is the same.
    I know this is not a very elegant solution and it defeats the purpose of having a DriverManager. Does any one else has a better way to solve this problem, like a way to specify the priority of each Driver so that SQLServerDriver is returned before the netscape Driver?

  • Error Loading servlet in iplanet app server NotSerializableException

    I am trying to load a servlet and everything runs correct but when i try to connect to the database of the system I get java.io.NotSerializableException. I am not passing any data through rmi or writing any data to the system, but still get this message. The wierd thing is that this runs without a problem on my windows, running JRun, and linux, running tomcat, machine but give me this message on my unix machine running Iplanet, does anyone have any clue to what would cause such an error, when everything works on all the other machines but the unix one.

  • Communication beween an http client a servlet and a socket server

    Hello I&#8217;m developing an application that needs a client to communicate with a servlet using Http and then the servlet needs to connect to a server using sockets.
    The client will send an image to the servlet and then the servlet will send that image to the server.
    Everything works OK except when I try to send the data from the servlet to the server. It seems that there is no indication of when the outputstream has reached its end. So when trying to do this at the server side:

    I'm not quite sure what you mean. I have tried to do the same in the following piece of code and it worked fine. The only difference is that here the data is read from a file but I still send it as raw data(bytes).

  • Blank White screen appears while returning from server page to website page.

    I am trying to run my website as hosted webapp on Intext Cloud FX. The scenario I am facing is this
    1. I submit to payment page calling server servlet https://abc.com/payment.
    2. Server responds with an intermediate page (form with hidden fields), with a form in it submitting parameters to my website url
    (http://a.com/checkout/paySuccess.mobile).
    My app is struck in second step when server responds with intermediate page and it shows blank white screen.
    Any help in this regard will be helpful.

    Got the solution. Problem was that I was trying to submit form from encrypted (https) page to unencrypted page(http). On firefox browser we get an alert message regarding this but on hosted app, no such message is appearing and only white screen is coming. When sumbitted to encrypted (https) page all worked fine.

  • Connection Pooling problem in Weblogic Server 6.1

    We are using weblogic server 6.1 sp3. The server creates three database connection
    pools (details available in the attached config.xml).
    The database has a regular downtime every day for a few hours. We are running
    the server as a windows service. As per the "RefreshMinutes" property, the server
    should be able to get new fresh connections once the database comes up. But in
    our case it is not doing so. Once the database comes up after its regular downtime:
    -- Sometimes the server does not respond as in we are not able to open the console
    page.
    -- Any client that tries connecting to the database thru the server gets blocked
    and does not respond.
    -- The log file(weblogic.log) does not get updated after some time.
    Can someone suggest why the server is showing such a behaviour??
    Could it be anything related to the DBMS setting or to the local machine's settings
