Servlet Invokation problem

Hi
I have J2ME wireless toolkit on one comp and am trying to invoke a servlet on another computer, am getting error in HTTP connection initialization, i changed the network configuration in J2ME wireless toolkit Edit->Preferences to my proxy server...both computers are on LAN, am using apache tomcat 5.0.28 for the server, i modified the server.xml file in apache tomcat conf folder, i changed local host to IP address of my computer, but its not working, what should i do, am i missing something? Please help me!
Lappard

Hi,
If both of your computers are on the same network, then there is no need to set the proxy details in the toolkit. you should be able to directly connect to the tomcat server. first check if you can connect to the tomcat from a web browser.

    giving error as:
    "The requested service (Servlet invoker is currently unavailable) is not currently available."
    pls help me out in this
    thanks a lot

    The way you declared your servlet in the deployment descriptor placed the value you want in the ServletConfig object, not the ServletContext. The convenience method getInitParameter() should pull out the value you need, so just changegetServletContext().getInitParameter("driver")togetInitParameter("driver")and the error should go away.

  • Servlet invoke problem

    Hi,
    when i post data to my servlet (doPost() implemented) i got an error message says that the HTTP request mehtod POST not supported by this URL.
    i'm currently using Sun One application server.
    any help?

    You could wrap the doPost()-Method into the doGet()-Method.
    protected void doPost(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response)
    throws ServletException, IOException {
    doGet(request,response);

    Problem solved.
    1. Added JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/jdk1.5.0_11/ into my startup.sh (just like on production server)
    2. Made my servlet class 'public' - now this one I should have gotten ... so embarassing :-(

  • Servlet Compilation Problem !

    Hi,
    I am just starting to learn servlets and I got problem in compiling them. I got compilation error in
    import javax.servlet.*;statement. Seems that the compiler cannot find the servlet package. I got J2EE 1.4 beta installed on my machine but there is no servlet.jar package. I am using J2SDK 1.4.1_02, J2EE 1.4 beta and Tomcat 4.1.24.
    Can anyone help me with my servlet compilation problem?
    Thanks in advance!

    servlet.jar is here :
    <tomcatdir>\common\lib
    add it to your compiler classpath

  • Servlet/JSP problems with WL 4.51

    Hi all
              I have a set of Servlets and JSPs running on NewAtlanta's ServletExec
              servlet engine. I am currently porting them to WebLogic. I am facing a
              few problems. I do not want to change any of my HTML/JSP/Java files
              immediately. I want the same files to work in WL as it is. Pl help.
              1. The servlets in ServletExec used to be invoked as
              http://host/servlet/servletName. But in weblogic they are invoked
              as http://host/servletName. I tried registering the servlet names
              in weblogic.properties as
              weblogic.httpd.register.servlet/XServlet=com.foo.XServlet
              weblogic.httpd.initArgs.servlet/XServlet=param=value
              Now I can call this servlet as http://host/servlet/XServlet and so
              I dont have to change any html/JSP files. Will this cause any
              problems in the future?
              2. Since we used to run ServletExec on IIS, we created a virtual
              directory called /jsp in IIS under which we had all the html and
              JSP files. Our servlets will get the http requests, get data from
              database, put the results in session/request variables and dispatch
              it to appropriate JSP page. So, all our servlet code looks like
              this:
              RequestDispatcher dispatcher =
              getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher("/jsp/test.jsp");
              dispatcher.forward(request, response);
              How do I make this code work with WebLogic? Is there any way to
              create virtual directory and make it work like in IIS?
              Thanks for any help.

    You might try
              weblogic.httpd.register.jsp/*.jsp=weblogic.servlet.JSPServlet
              but a better/ easier way would be to just move all of your jsp files to a 'jsp'
              subdirectory beneath public_html

  • Servlet Response Problem

    Hello all,
    My simple servlet takes in a URL as a parameter and the uses the httpUrlConnection method to retrieve that page. It then just writes the html to the browser in the hope that it would be displayed as if retrieved directly.
    Although the source of a page retrieved in this way is identicle to the expected source, no images appear. I think (guess) this is because the address of a page retrieved in this way will not be the same as if retrieved normally. This, in turn, messes up the relative file paths. e.g www.mypage.com becomes something like http://localhost/httpProxyServer?URL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mypage.com (httpProxyServer is the name of the servlet).
    To get to the point, idoes anyone know if there is a way i can set the address of the returned page to be as if retrieved directly? I have looked in to response headers with little luck although i am very new to servlets. Thanks for any tips or advice.
    Christie

    This question can be better answered if you point out the need to examine each response before actually sending it out to the browser. What exactly do you look for in the response ? Do you compress it / transform it / parse it ?
    Having said that, you could use filters to meet any of your above needs.
    1. The first obvious gain is that it is a standard, widely accepted and part of the j2ee specification. As you said, it provides modularity and resuability of code. Somebody who goes through your work would easily pick up the trail, comprehend concisely the effort and the ends you attempt to achieve. You would have implicit server support (more of this later)
    2. You use a servlet that intercepts each request. It then uses a HttpURLConnection to get the response from each resource. As you can see straight away, this essentially makes it two requests per request - the original request goes to your general purpose servlet; then the general purpose Servlet(GPS hereafter) makes the url connection to the resource, its a brand new request. The original request may have lots of params coming in which have to be reconstructed by the GPS and included in the call to the resource which delivers the actual response back to the GPS. Hope you begin to see the pitfalls here (for example imagine the incoming stream is a byte stream resulting from a file upload)
    **in short** the 'simple servlet' is going to get very very complex as your application grows.
    3. All the above rerouting (even if you manage to achieve it successfully) will take its toll on the performance measured in terms of the response time.
    4. In established MVC2 framework like Struts or JSF, the Servlet that intercepts every request is a Controller Servlet (which knows how to handle the request, which validations to perform, which beans to invoke and so on). Your GPS should in addition to examining responses, do all this stuff or else you would end up with multiple Controllers making your app quite unwieldy.
    5. Using filters, you could side step all the above which in itself is a huge advantage (me thinks :)) besides providing a standard way to implement tasks similar to yours. I mentioned implicit server support, right ? Filters are supported by all standard j2ee web severs. You neednt write a single line of code to have your filter modify the response. All you have to write is the actual modification algorithm. However the path you choose, you would have to manually do all the dirty work of transferring the request to the actual resource (using HttpUrlConnection). You should receive each request params and convey that to the resource being accessed and so on. (see #2 above)
    Hope all that helps.
    cheers,
    ram.

    I face the same issue and I have given all permissions to the folder for OS user.
    Because of this error my server is not starting up . Is there any way I can undeploy this composite to get my server running.
    I cant do this from EM because SOA server is failing to start up.
    I have tried removing it from $DOMAIN_HOME/deployed-composites but still when i try restarting the soa server the composite comes up there. Do we need to delete the entry some where else too. Kindly help.
    Thanks,

  • How can I get a parameter back into a servlet invoked from an IMG tag ?

    I'm using a servlet to create several graphical plots per JSP i.e. per HTML page. Each graph is supposed to be different, according to a parameter which I want to pass back from my JSP. I'm getting several plots but they're all the same!
    I've tried setting an attribute in the session object before each IMG SRC= , but all I get is each plot the same! In fact, my debugging efforts show that the servlet is only called once despite 3 calls, each with a different session parameter value. I'm not sure the session parameter values are getting used properly.
    I just can't find a way of getting a parameter back into my servlet which is invoked from the IMG tag (i.e. SRC= "servlet name").
    Can anyone tell me the best way to pass a parameter back into a servlet which is invoked from an IMG tag? Can the request object be used? I can't, at the moment, see how it could be used?
    I'll certainly be very grateful if anyone can help with this - could even be useful for others as well!

    You said that, "by moving a copy of Mobile Docs back to the Library, from which I had moved it, my documents reapperared in Cloud." That says that you actually moved it. Obviously, I can't tell exactly what you did, but it sounds like you may have thought you were just putting it in the sidebar, but you actually put it somewhere else. The sidebar is not a location to put things, just a way to create a quick shortcut to access a file or folder, so you can't put things "back" from there.

  • Tomcat Servlet Security Problem? : Start Excel with NJAWIN - COMObjects

    I get an exception when I start my programm as servlet , as application it works just fine (when I start it as Servlet in the internal Tomcat from JBuilder it also works fine).
    Application app = new Application(Application.progID); // interfaces built with java2com for Excel
    com.develop.jawin.COMException: 8000ffff: CoCreateInstance for "{024500-00-0000-c000-000000000046}" failed
    at com.develop.jawin.win32.Ole32.CoCreateInstance(Unknown Source)
    at com.develop.jawin.win32.Ole32.GetFromProgID(Unknown Source)
    at com.develop.jawin.DispatchPtr.<init>(Unknown Source)
    at excel2pdf.Excel._Application.<init>(_Application.java:31)
    Actually Excel is started but as SYSTEM and not as my Username. Perhaps there's a problem with the security policy, I already gave all rights to catalina for my whole projekt( each directory of it). Have smb already had this problem? Any Ideas?

    Thanks for answering
    In my case I think I cannot use POI because I need Excel
    and a Virtual Printer , so I can convert excel files with exactly the same
    format to PDF. POI is suppose better idea for creating or manipulating
    OpenOffice files (they are working together with OO on file formats),
    and unfortunately OpenOffice doesnt work fine with charts (I already had
    this solution, openoffice-server and Uno ).
    It must be smth with Tomcat-Configuration or security, because my
    programm is working with the internal tomcat-server of JBuilder, and
    as application too. In both cases Excel is started with my username and
    not SYSTEM (my tomcat server is started as service, perhaps thats why
    by starting excel from my servlet Excel is by user - SYSTEM).

  • Applet-Servlet Communication problem EOFException

    Hi! i´ve been searching and searching through forums because it seems this problem is very common, but none of the solutions i´ve seen so far suits me, so i´m here looking for some help because i´ve been stuck one week with this. First of all sorry if my english isn´t the best... i´m a bit rusty...
    Well, i had some code that worked perfectly, but i needed to perform some changes because i needed the servlet to send more info to the applet, and here started the problems, when i made the changes it started to throw EOFException when i was trying to read the InputStream, and furthermore when i came back to the original code it started to throw the exception in the same place too
    So here i am... don´t know what to do now and i entrust to you to give me some tips.
    Here comes some code. This is the original code, the one that runned but it doesn´t run right now
    Applet:
    public ListasComponentesSeleccionables cargarListasComponentes( ) throws IOException, ClassNotFoundException {
              String serv = "/Desaladora/cargarListasComponentesApplet.do";
              String host = Principal.documentBase.getHost( );
              URL direccion = new URL( "http", host, 8080, serv );
              // Create conection
              URLConnection connection = direccion.openConnection( );
              connection.setDoInput( true );
              connection.setDoOutput( true );
              connection.setUseCaches( false );
              connection.setRequestProperty( "Content-Type", "application/x-java-serialized-object" );
              ObjectOutputStream output;
              output = new ObjectOutputStream( connection.getOutputStream( ) );
              output.writeObject( new Boolean(true) );
              output.flush( );
              output.close( );
              ObjectInputStream input = new ObjectInputStream( connection.getInputStream( ) ); //<-- Here is the problem
              ListasComponentesSeleccionables response = new ListasComponentesSeleccionables( );
              response = ( ListasComponentesSeleccionables ) input.readObject( );
              return response;
         }Servlet:
    ublic class CargarListasComponentesAppletAction extends Action {
    public ActionForward execute(     ActionMapping mapping,
                                                     ActionForm form,
                                                     HttpServletRequest request,
                                                     HttpServletResponse response )
                            throws ServletException, IOException, Exception  {
              InitialContext context = new InitialContext();
              SensorManagerService sensor_service;
              ActuatorManagerService actuator_service;
              Globals.LOGGER_SECURITY.debug( "Entering ACTION 'CargarListasComponentesAppletAction'" );
              response.setContentType("application/x-java-serialized-object");
              try
                   ObjectInputStream bufferentrada = new ObjectInputStream(request.getInputStream());
                   Boolean peticionOK = (Boolean)bufferentrada.readObject();
                   ObjectOutputStream buffersalida = new ObjectOutputStream(response.getOutputStream());
                   sensor_service = ( SensorManagerService ) context.lookup( "desaladora/SensorManagerServiceBean/local" );
                   ArrayList<AlarmConnectedSensorDTO> sensorList = sensor_service.findAllSensorsToAlarms();
                   actuator_service = ( ActuatorManagerService ) context.lookup( "desaladora/ActuatorManagerServiceBean/local" );
                   ArrayList<AlarmConnectedActuatorDTO> actuatorList = actuator_service.findAllActuatorsToAlarms();
                   buffersalida.writeObject( crearListasSeleccionables(sensorList, actuatorList) );
                   buffersalida.flush();
              catch(Exception e)
                   System.out.println("Error en la trasmision de datos");
              return null;
         private ListasComponentesSeleccionables crearListasSeleccionables(ArrayList<AlarmConnectedSensorDTO> sensorList,
                    ArrayList<AlarmConnectedActuatorDTO> actuatorList) {
              Vector<Integer> vectorSensores = new Vector<Integer>();
              Vector<Integer> vectorActuadores = new Vector<Integer>();
              for(AlarmConnectedSensorDTO sensor : sensorList) {
                   vectorSensores.add(sensor.getIdSensor( ));
              for(AlarmConnectedActuatorDTO actuator : actuatorList) {
                   vectorActuadores.add(actuator.getIdActuator( ));
              ListasComponentesSeleccionables listasComponentesSeleccionables =
                                  new ListasComponentesSeleccionables(vectorSensores, vectorActuadores);
              return listasComponentesSeleccionables;
    }i´ve been running some test in another computer, and this code simply works, but it doesn´t work in the machine i usually work.
    Maybe someway the stream get corrupt? the info i´ve been trying to send and started throwing the exception may still be in the stream? I don´t know what to think right now.
    Hope someone has any idea, thankyou.

    I dont see the problem. However, I suggest you change this;
    System.out.println("Error en la trasmision de datos"); t
    to e.printStackTrace() to see what it is doing when it stops working.
    I also suggest peppering your code with System.out.println() statements to see what it is doing just before stopping.
    Also, try your code with a brand new file with only a few characters in it. If it works, add to it some of your originial file content until it stops working. This way, you can determine if its the file size that is causing the crash or something in the file content. If all else fails, study java I/O and try some other way to read/write the file. You can also try a different browser. If it works, its the browser. Still having problems? Create a new project with a simple applet and file read/write program and get that working. That way, all the other stuff in your original project isn't in the way.

  • Servlet mapping problem in Resin, very weird!

    ENV: resin 2.1.6 on windows 2000
    1, I copied all the files and folders in $resin/doc/java_tut to $resin/webapps
    2, I did a little change to $resin/conf/resin.conf
    In the old resin.conf, there is a lot about the '/' webapp.
    <web-app id='/'>
    <classpath id='WEB-INF/classes'
    source='WEB-INF/classes'
    compile='true'/>
    </web-app>
    I replaced it just with
    <web-app id='/'/>
    3, I tested the 'java_tut' webapp
    http://localhost:8080/java_tut/servlet/example.servlet.basic.MappingServlet
    works well.
    http://localhost:8080/java_tut/exact
    works well, too.
    4, Then I tested the '/' webapp
    http://localhost:8080/servlet/example.servlet.basic.MappingServlet
    works well.
    but
    http://localhost:8080/java_tut/exact
    returns error code 404
    what's the problem?

    don't you need to get rid of the java_tut bit?
