Servlet not reloading in tomcat

Hello,
i searched the forum for this but didn't get the answer.
in my server.xml file, the reloadable flag is set to "true" (for the context i am using) and the webapps directory is not in tomcat's classpath (Jason Hunter's book says that such classes are not reloaded)
but, if i change a servlet, it is not being reloaded.
thanks for any ideas
partha

any pointers?

    Suppose your servlets class is called "app", you need to add this in your web.xml file
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name>app</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>app</servlet-class>
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>app</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/app</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    </servlet>

  • Modified  Servlet not visible

    Hi,
    I created a servlet & then ran it , it worked fine. After that I modified it so that it should display a different message on browser but its displaying the previous staff. Strangely even if I delete the servlet & then try to access it using a URL , I will see the same stuff which present in the servlet before starting the tomcat. However if I stop tomcat & hen restart it again I will see the modified servlet or error message if servlet not available. How can I get around with this prob of viewing the modified servlet without restarting the tomcat.
    Zulfi.

    add reloadable attribute to the Context entry in conf/server.xml. by default it does not include reloadable, change
        <!-- Tomcat Root Context -->
        <Context path="" docBase="ROOT" debug="0"/>to
        <!-- Tomcat Root Context -->
        <Context path="" docBase="ROOT" debug="0" reloadable="true"/>this will tell tomcat to reload the servlet after being modified without restarting server.

  • Struts action classes not reloaded in WLS 8.1 SP5

    Hi,
              We are in the process of upgrading from WLS6.1 to WLS8.1(SP5). I installed WLS8.1 in development mode with no change to any of the default settings and got our app up and running. However, one issue that I noticed was that WLS8.1 is not reloading new classes copied int WEB-INF/classes directory within the webapp.
              I read the document at http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs81/webapp/deployment.html#157139 and it clearly says that any changes to classes are automatically picked up.
              I have verified that "servlet-reload-check-secs" is set to 1. Is there any configuration item that I am missing here ?

  • ConfigureListener class not found exception (tomcat 5.5.4/jdk 1.5)

    Hi,
    I'm seeing this error in the Tomcat logs upon Tomcat startup:
    SEVERE: Error configuring application listener of class com.sun.faces.config.ConfigureListener
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.sun.faces.config.ConfigureListener.
    I added this ConfigureListener reference to my conf/web.xml file having perused the Forum for a fix to this error in the Tomcat logs:
    .SEVERE: StandardWrapper.Throwable
    java.lang.NullPointerException
    at javax.faces.webapp.FacesServlet.init(FacesServlet.java:144)
    What I don't get is my CLASSPATH env. var. clearly shows jsf-impl.jar. I double-checked the path and that com.sun.faces.config.ConfigureListener is contained in jsf-impl.jar and both looked A-OK.
    Also saw someone referencing changing the DOCTYPE references from Faces Config 1.0 (to 1.1) and web-facesconfig_1_0.dtd (to 1_1). Tried this but no improvement.
    How could the Tomcat engine say a class isn't there when the CLASSPATH says it is??
    What is also interesting is that I have the same JSF app running like a champ under tomcat 5.0.19 and have no reference to ConfigureListener class in the conf/web.xml. Not sure why tomcat 5.5.4 is unhappy with the JSF context when tomcat 5.0.19 isn't??

    Adam,
    Thanks! I did the java environment/container clean-up you suggested. Also, for reasons unbeknownst to me, when I had two WAR files under webapps, tomcat was unhappy on startup (still seeing Faces servlet startup error). So I removed the 2 WAR files, and kept the two expanded directories (assoc. with the 2 WAR files) under webapps (as had already been created by tomcat) and all is well. I admit bewilderment over the concept of already expanded WAR files working versus not expanded WAR files not working!? Thanks again for your help.

  • Firefox 3.6.3 crashed, will not reload because it says it is running, and will not uninstall?

    Firefox 3.6.3 crashed and would not reload as the system informed that firefox was already running. Rebooting had no effect. 3.6.4 was downloaded and installed. It would not run for the same reason. Windows XP was then upgraded to SP2. No change. 3.6.4 was uninstalled with no problem but 3.6.3 refuses to install. (When 'remove' is clicked, there is disc activity for about a second but then all stops.) No files have been deleted by me. There is no indication that I can see inspecting 'processes' or msconfig to indicate that Firefox is running.

  • Page not reloading even if page is marked as no cache

    Web pages will not reload on visit even if the meta information specifies:
    <meta http-equiv="Pragma" content="no-cache" /> and
    <meta http-equiv="Expires" content="0" />
    Page shown is last visit from cache instead.

    It is a firefox 5.0 cookies and cache related bug see: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/839553
    We have the same issue in our site at http://www.morsmal.org when changing languages.
    Delete cache and cookies at the *same* time and you will get some temporally control.. but you will need to do so every time you visit a site using advanced cookies routines :-(

  • How to get firefox to return to previous link and not reload it

    When viewing content from a page in a tab, clicking the back button causes the previous page to reload in stead of just returning to it. That makes it impossible (without opening the info in a new tab) to return to a page and click the next item you want to view because it is no longer there.
    Also, sometimes you get the message that the previous page is not available with a "try again" button.
    I just want the back button to return to the previous page and NOT reload it.
    I'm hoping there's an about:config setting that fixes this.
    Version 32.0.3
    TIA

    In order to change your Firefox Configuration please do the following steps :
    # In the [[Location bar autocomplete|Location bar]], type '''about:config''' and press '''Enter'''. The about:config "''This might void your warranty!''" warning page may appear.
    # Click '''I'll be careful, I promise!''' to continue to the about:config page.

  • Servlet not working...

    i'm running tomcat 4.0.1 on IIS and i haven't been able to get my servlet to work.
    i'm thinking that it has something to do with where i am placing my servlet, or my directory structure.
    my applet is run out of the directory "\\server\\wwwroot$\\testDir\\"
    and my servlet is in the directory "\\server\\tomcat$\\webapps\\ROOT\\WEB-INF\\classes\\"
    here is my applet code for calling the servlet....
    try
    URL url = new URL("http://www2.homepage.com/serlvet/servletOne");
    URLConnection conn = url.openConnection();
    InputStream inputStreamFromServlet = conn.getInputStream();
    catch(IOException io) { io.printStackTrace(); }
    here is my servlet code....
    public class servletOne extends HttpServlet {
    public void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response)
    throws ServletException, IOException
    try
    FileWriter f = new FileWriter("\\server\\wwwroot$\\testDir\\test2.htm");
    f.write("testing");
    f.flush();
    f.close();
    catch(IOException io) { io.printStackTrace(); }
    the error i get when i try to run it is a FileNotFoundException.
    i believe that this is the proper location for my servlet, but does the tomcat directory have to be within the wwwroot$ directory, in order for it to work?
    any help would be greatly appreciated
    thanks
    Andy

    Seems that FileWriter cannot find test2.htm file. The path for FileWriter constructor can be any absolute system dependent path. So you can use "c:\\server\\wwwroot\\testDir\\test2.htm".
