Servlets 'n' Beans,  (table 2)

Hi all,
Got a problem!
Am working on a servlet that uses a bean to store some important variables. I would then like have the servlet call a JSP page that has access to the bean and its vraibles, thus
delivering content specific to the values of the bean.
Been looking at examples of application scope beans, but they all tend to point setting a name and value using the methods as follows:
          Type1 value1 = (computeValueFromRequest("request");
                    getServletContext().setAttribute("key1", "value1");This to me seems like you are creating a bean on the fly and looks like it will complicate the servlet with many statements in order to set all the contents of your bean.
This doesn't appeal to me as I have already created my bean class with all its accessor methods in order to get away from this.
Hoping for some help,
Thanks, thee olde wizard

You are not limited to string values for the attributes. And you certainly don't want to keep attributes that change fast in the servlet context; what about using the session's attributes?
SomeObject sob = new SomeObject();
sob.setXyz(9);
... // bla bla bla
request.getSession().setAttribute("someObject", sob);
// forward to JSP now

  • Enable/Disable Column in a Advanced Bean Table

    Hi,
    I have 2 columns that needs to be enabled/disabled on a standard oa page PO Lines summary page.
    I went through couple of blogs/forums and found 2 approaches :-
    Approach 1
    1) Extended the standard VO POLinesMerge.
    2) Added a attribute column DeriveDisplayFlag of type VARCHAR2 . This call a database function and will return Y or N
    3) Added a attribute of type ShowAdditionalColumn boolean. the get method of this attribute returns TRUE if DeriveDisplayFlag is 'Y' otherwise returns FALSE.
    4) created a substitution for the custom VO
    5) uploaded the substitution to mds.
    6) copied the xml/class files to $JAVA_TOP/..
    7) Bounced entire middle tier
    8) using personalization, entered a SPEL command on the rendered property. I know rendered will hide/show the column but for time being I just want this to work.
    But this fails :-
    oracle.apps.fnd.framework.OAException: Message not found. Application: FND, Message Name: FND_VIEWOBJECT_NOT_FOUND. Tokens: VONAME = XXPBPoLinesMergeVO; APPLICATION_MODULE = oracle.apps.po.document.server.DocumentAM;
    I am not aware how to get around this. Can someone help please?
    Approach 2
    1) steps 1 to 6 from Approach 1.
    2) trying to extend controller class OrderLinesTableRNCO. But have couple of questions. This iis a advanced bean table so how should i reference individual record and the column that i need to disable/enable ?
    Conceptual questions
    Also, when i am entering a new record at what point in time the 2 new attribute will derive its value? the 2 attributes are dependent on the Item number column but i have not created a dependency between the attributes and Item# column.
    Will the controller logic fire for every column while i am entering a new record?
    Thanks.

    Hi Anil,
    Thanks for the response. I have given up that i will get reply on this post.
    I have done the substitution and upload the jpx to umsing importer.
    But you are correct may be i might have done something wrong. Can you please help me. I can send you the files if you can review and let me know it will be great.
    Also, will this approach work since PO Lines is a advanced bean table ?
    One of the experts suggested to use Bound values. I am not sure how to implement it though?
    I have went and told back to my business team that I am not able to do this so now they have asked me to enable/disable columns based on a dff value on po header. I thought this will be easier by extending the controller class on PO Lines table but that too is not working.
    Can you help me please ?
    Here is my code to extend the controller class :-
    package xxpb.oracle.apps.po.webui;
    import oracle.apps.fnd.common.VersionInfo;
    import oracle.apps.fnd.framework.webui.OAControllerImpl;
    import oracle.apps.fnd.framework.webui.OAPageContext;
    import oracle.apps.fnd.framework.webui.beans.OAWebBean;
    import oracle.apps.fnd.framework.webui.beans.message.OAMessageLovInputBean;
    import oracle.apps.fnd.framework.webui.beans.message.OAMessageTextInputBean;
    import oracle.apps.fnd.framework.webui.beans.table.OAAdvancedTableBean;
    import oracle.apps.fnd.framework.webui.beans.table.OAColumnBean;
    import oracle.apps.fnd.framework.webui.beans.table.OASortableHeaderBean;
    import oracle.apps.fnd.framework.webui.beans.table.OATableBean;
    import oracle.apps.po.document.order.webui.OrderLinesTableRNCO;
    public class XXPBOrderLinesTableRNCO extends OrderLinesTableRNCO
    public void processRequest(OAPageContext pageContext, OAWebBean webBean)
    super.processRequest(pageContext, webBean);
    OAAdvancedTableBean tableBean =
    (OAAdvancedTableBean)webBean.findIndexedChildRecursive("LinesTableRN");
    OAMessageLovInputBean poLineLov =
    (OAMessageLovInputBean)tableBean.findIndexedChildRecursive("XXPBSecondaryUOMLOV");
    poLineLov.setDisabled(false);
    }

  • How to upload a file into server using j2ee jsp and servlet with bean?

    How to upload a file into server using j2ee jsp and servlet with bean? Please give me the reference or url about how to do that. If related to struts is more suitable.
    Anyone help me please!

    u don't need j2ee and struts to do file uploading. An example is as such
    in JSP. u use the <input> file tag like
    <input type="file"....>You need a bean to capture the file contents like
    class FileUploadObj {
        private FormFile srcFile;
        private byte[] fileContent;
        // all the getter and setter methods
    }Then in the servlet, you process the file for uploading
        * The following loads the uploaded binary data into a byte Array.
        FileUploadObj form = new FileUploadObj();
        byte[] byteArr = null;
        if (form.signFile != null) {
            int filesize = form.srcFile.getFileSize();
            byteArr = new byte[filesize];
            ByteArrayInputStream bytein = new ByteArrayInputStream (form.srcFile.getFileData());
            bytein.read(byteArr);
            bytein.close();
            form.setFileContent(byteArr);
        // Write file content using Writer class into the destination file in the server.
        ...

  • Servlet into html table ?

    hi
    can i put servlet at html table ?
    how ?
    thanks

    If you mean "can I write from the servlet's Post / Get method into a html table on the client"
    Yes, all you need do is get the response objects Writer()
    (I think the method is response.getWriter())
    then just call println("VALID HTML DOC")
    where VALID HTML DOC is a properly formed html doc to be rendered in the client's browser

  • Servlets and Beans

    I am developing a website using JSP, beans and servlets.
    The thing I need to know is can you access the variables stored in a session wide bean (those stored using set/get methods) from within a servlet?
    Many Thanks
    J-P

    Hi well...
    I put these in my jsp
    <jsp:useBean id="varTmp" type="bean.VarTmp" class="bean.VarTmp" scope="session"></jsp:useBean>
    <I></I>
    <BR>
    <jsp:setProperty name="varTmp" property="usrcod" value="<%= request.getRemoteUser() %>" />
    <jsp:setProperty name="varTmp" property="empnom" value="<%= _prb %>" />
    <jsp:setProperty name="varTmp" property="wstcod" value="<%= request.getRemoteAddr() %>" />
    ok, but in my servlet in the doGet() I put this way...
    HttpSession ses = req.getSession(true);
    bean.VarTmp t = (bean.VarTmp)ses.getAttribute("varTmp");
    wempcod = t.getEmpcod();
    wusrcod = req.getRemoteUser();
    and didn't work....
    what's the problem?

  • Servlet to Bean to JSP

    I have a JSP that sends two form values to a servlet. I want to send those parameters to a bean for calculation and then send the results back to the JSP. I am stuck on the Servlet code and don't know how to send it back with the bean don't know how to start the bean:
    import javax.servlet.*;
    int rate, hours;
    public class calculateParamServlet extends HttpServlet{
         public void doPost(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse res) throws
         ServletException, IOException {
              rate = req.getParameter("hourlyRate");
              hours = req.getParameter("hours");
    }Any help would be appreciated,
    Kent

    A bean is just a Java class so the same rules apply.
    e.g in the doPost method,
    myBean mybean = new MyBean();
    mybean.setRate(rate);
    mybean.setHours(hours);
    out.println(mybean.getCalc());
    If you want to save the reference to the bean, save it in the application or session scope and check for its existence before creating it again. You could also do all this directly from the JSP.
    HTH

  • Can I run the Servlet and Bean code on Sun ONE Webserver 6.1 SP5

    Hi all.
    My environment as below.
    1) Windows 2000 Server SP4
    2) Sun ONE Webserver 6.1 SP5
    3) JRE1.5.0
    The directory ( WEB-INF/classes) where is to create on. I have a Bean and Servlet code but I can't
    to run it on. Another code Jsp, HTML can run.
    How can I do?

    Your question is somewhat vague, but I'll presume that you are asking how you can invoke your servlets.
    If the servlet classes are correctly deployed, you can invoke them directly. i.e. http://host/<app>/servlet/<classname>. Or, you can create servlet mappings.
    Java beans cannot be invoked the same way a servlet can. You can access beans from within servlets.
    For more details, check out the servlet tutorials at http://java.sun.com

  • Servlets accessing beans

    Hi,
    I know I can use
    <jsp:useBean>to create and access named Bean objects in my application from JSP. But I would like to create a named Bean object from a servlet and store it in the session scope, so that my JSPs can access this later.
    How do I instantiate a named bean in a servlet?
    Thanks!

    MyBean myBean = new MyBean();
    session.setAttribute("myBean", myBean);
    Now you can access the bean in a JSP using:
    <jsp:useBean id="myBean" scope="session" class="MyBean" />

    put your bean in a different package from servlet and include this
    package in your servlet like
    import yourbeanpackage.yourbean
    and then create object of bean and use it

  • Jsp-servlet-bean problem

    Please help!
    I have a servlet controller, a javabean for the data and a jsp for the view.
    I cannot get the jsp using
    <jsp:useBean id="pList" class="bbs.PostListCommand" scope="request" />
    to access the bean data
    However, when I access the bean in this way
    <%@ page import="bbs.PostListCommand" %>
    // html
    <% bbs.PostListCommand postList = null;
    synchronized(session){
         postList = (bbs.PostListCommand) session.getAttribute("PostListCommand");
         if (postList == null){ %>
              <H1>Nothing in request scope to retrieve ....</H1>
              <P>
    <%     }
         else{  %>
              <TABLE border="1">
    // etc
     it works
    Does anyone know why the <jsp:useBean> tag does not find the bean
    I have installed tomcat 4.18 and set the environmental variables etc.
    Directory structure is
    E:\Tomcat41\webapps\examples\WEB-INF\jsp          for jsps
    E:\Tomcat41\webapps\examples\WEB-INF\classes\bbs     for bean and servlets
    Thanks in advance for any help.
    Chris

    GrayMan - Thanks for your help.
    Let me explain my problem in more detail ...
    Background:
    I have some servlet experience, but I am new to jsp - so sorry if this seems trivial to you ...
    I have a book called bitter java by bruce tate from manning.com . I am trying to get the chapter 3 examples to work
    There are three files
    PostListCommand          the bean
    PostListController     the servlet
    PostListResults          jsp
    And a new test file PostListResults version 2 with scriptlet code to access the bean.
    There are a couple of typos in the downloaded source files, but nothing that causes the main problem of not being able to access the bean data.
    Program flow
    Servlet instantiates new bean
    Bean  gets data from db
    Servlet passes bean to jsp with a forward
    Jsp outputs data
    I have put the files in the directories
    E:\Tomcat41\webapps\examples\WEB-INF\jsp          for jsps
    E:\Tomcat41\webapps\examples\WEB-INF\classes\bbs     for bean and servlets
    The complete source code for each file is given below.
    1 I have checked the db access thats ok
    2 I have also checked reading the bean data back in from the request scope and printing out the results from within the servlet.- ok
    3 I can access the data through a scriptlet (PostListResults version 2), but not with the original PostListResults which uses <jsp:useBean>
    thanks in advance, chris

  • Sample jsp servlet bean (MVC) code

    We want to look into the JSP/Servlet/Bean area for our next project. We wish to understand the technology and as such want to hand build simple applications, and as such do not want to use JDeveloper just yet.
    We have searched and searched for suitable material but cannot anywhere find a sample application that :
    A. Lists contents of a databse table
    B. Each item in trhe list is a link to a page that allows that item, to be edited.
    C. A new item can be added.
    D. Uses the MVC model of JSP/Servlet and bean (preferably with no custom tags)
    There are examples that are too simplistic and do not cover the whole picture. Having spent over 100 GBP on books lately, only to be disappointed with the examples provided, we need to see some sample code.
    The samples provided by Oracle are too simplistic. They should really have provided ones built around the EMP and DEPT tables.
    Anyone know where we can get hold of this sample code.

    At the risk of sounding really dumb the examples are just too complex. There does not appear to be anywhere on the web where I can find a simple JSP/servlet/bean example of the type I described. There is enouigh material describing each individual component, but what I need is an example to cement the ideas, but the ones suggested are too much for a newbie. Even the much vaunted Pet Store thingy causes my eyes to glaze over.
    I dont expect anyone to have written something with my exact requirements, but surely to goodness there must be something that:
    1. On entry presents a search form on a table (e.g. EMP)
    2. On submission list all rows in EMp matchiung the criteria.
    3. The user can either click the link 'Edit' which opens up a form dispalying the row allowing the user to edit and save the changes, or click the 'New' button to show a blank form to create a new EMP.
    All this via a Controller servlet, with the database logic handled by a java bean, and all the presentation done via JSP.
    To me this is the most obvious and instructive example of this technology, but after days of trawling the web, and looking through a number of books, I cannot find such a thing.
    CGI with Perl DBI/DBD was a breeze to work with compared to this stuff ..... maybe ASP with SQL/Server would be a more fruitful use of time.
