Session state, again

Hi,
I am still struggling after session state updates.
Here is my problem:
I have a page containing two regions (besides the breadcrumbs):
the first region contains a couple of combo boxes containing "filters" for the chart.
The second region contains a pie chart and the sql expression contains two bind variables referencing the aforementioned filters.
The chart in turn contains links to itself, because the value represented by each slice can be used to split the data into further categories. This is achieved via a hierarchical query representing categories of items, so, for instance, category "Food" is parent of "Beverage" and "Beverage" is parent of "Wines". So when you click on slice "Food", the underlying query returns all the categories belonging to "Food".
Until now I could not figure out a way to handle the browser's back button correctly, because the "recursive" nature of this scenario is messed up by session state, whose values persist beyond the scope of each page.
This situation leads to strange results, where the form fields show the correct data, whilst the chart is drawn on entirely different values. This happens only when navigating backwards or forwards using the browser's back or forward button.
Is there any way to force form values to take precedence over session state values, eventually via javascript, so that the back button returns a meaningful page?
I tried with different approaches but with little success, so I was wondering if you have any known workaround.
Thanks,
Flavio

Hi Francis,
We have used the following code in our page template and it works.
<script>
//Disables the browser back button
javascript:window.history.forward(1);
</script>
And in the "Error Page Template Control" to
<TABLE >
<TR>
<TD valign="TOP"><IMG SRC="&IMAGE_PREFIX.error.gif" width=32 height=32></TD>
<TD valign="CENTER"><font size=+1>#MESSAGE#</font></TD>
</TR>
<TR><TD><A HREF="f?p=&FLOW_ID.:&FLOW_STEP_ID.:&SESSION.::&DEBUG."><IMG SRC="&IMAGE_PREFIX.back.gif" title="Back" alt="Back to previous page" width=32 height=32 border=0></A></TD>
<TD>Back</TD>
</TR>
</TABLE>
<table>
<tr><TD><A HREF="f?p=100:1:&SESSION.::&DEBUG." Title="Click here to go back to Main Menu">Go back Home</A></TD></tr>
</table>
You need to change or add error template because the default functionality of "javascript:window.history.go(-1)" will not work
Hope this helps

  • Saving session state

    Hi Everyone!
    We are looking for an easy-to-use solution for saving the session state in whole.
    (We are aware that it is possible to save the sesion state for a single item.)
    Our goal is to get a single commando which restores an whole session to another session. We would like to be able to save a session, purge the session (because of old age) and restore it's session state again to a new session.
    any ideas?

    Hi,
    I was thinking that a pointer to the Session object could be stored in a database on the initial loginAre you by any chance referring to the pointer similar to the one that is used in C? If so I guess it is not available in java.
    One possible solution where you can persist data across sessions is by the use of stateful session beans. Also you could experiment with the different scopes of the object for achieving your goal.
    I hope this helps you. In case I have missed out something please do post again.
    Cheers

  • Row fetching, session state, multi-page processing of 1 row - problems

    I'm building an application that's updating a couple of tables via an updateable view and an instead-of trigger. That portion of it works OK, EXCEPT for the problems that I'm having with the APEX end.
    I've got 3 pages; the first page reads the row in via the automated row fetch and has, say columns 1-20.
    Page 2 has, say, columns 20-40 and page 3 has the remainder.
    I have the row fetch set up conditionally so that it only executes the first time that page 1 is displayed. All the columns are set as Database Columns.
    It seems that if I fill in fields on page 1, move to page 2, and back to page 1, the contents of the fields on page 1 are destroyed unless I set their 'Source used' to 'Only when the current value in session state is null'.
    Furthermore, upon update (which is on page 3, via an automated row update), the only columns that get updated are those that exist on page 3. The column values from the other pages no longer exist.
    Does navigation to another page not retain the session-state of database-column items?
    Am I better off just writing my own processes to perform the updates?
    Any other suggestions?
    Frank

    Hello Frank,
    >>I have the row fetch set up conditionally so
    that it only executes the first time that page 1 is
    displayed …
    It seems that if I fill in fields on page 1, moveto page 2, and back to page 1, the contents of the
    fields on page 1 are destroyed unless I set their
    'Source used' to 'Only when the current value in
    session state is null'.
    It seems that the first sentence is not consistent
    with the second one. The only reason the values are
    destroyed, as you call it, is that the ARF is running
    again. What condition are you using on your ARF?
    In any case, the right way to deal with it is to
    change the source used to "Only …", as I understand
    you already did.
    Hi Arie,
    I set an item after the first ARF. I then have the ARF set to execute conditionally based on the presence of that item. (I also display a success message on the ARF, so I know that the ARF is only occurring once). I move to subsequent pages by submitting the current pages.
    >>Does navigation to another page not retain the
    session-state of database-column items?
    Navigating to another page does retain the session state values.
    It's depends on what you mean by navigating.
    Submitting the page set/update session state.
    Redirect without submitting the page will not
    set/update the session state.
    >>Furthermore, upon update (which is on page 3,
    via an automated row update), the only columns that
    get updated are those that exist on page 3. The
    column values from the other pages no longer
    exist.
    Automatic DML is working only with the current page
    items. You can't use it to insert/update other page
    items, even if they are in session state. However, in
    your case, it's not the Automatic DML performing the
    actual updates, but your triggers. Are your triggers
    relying on session state values?
    I think this statement 'Automatic DML is working only with the current page
    items.' answers my question. My trigger is working on session state values. It's an 'instead-of' trigger, so I was letting the automatic DML perform the 'update' on the view, while allowing the trigger to do the actual update of several tables that the view joins by referring to their :NEW. values in the trigger. Since the DML occurs on my last page, those were the only session state values that my trigger ultimately saw.
    >>Am I better off just writing my own processes to
    perform the updates?
    I believe the correct way is to submit the page and
    then branch to the next one. Submitting the page will
    save all your items in session state, and allow these
    items to be available for page 3 DML.
    Regards,
    Arie.I'm doing that already - all the values do appear to be in session sate, except only the items that are on the last page actually make it to the automatic DML update, which seems to agree with your previous statement.
    I suppose I could write my own process to perform the update, as the values are available in session state.
    Thanks,
    Frank

  • Javascript setting value in session state

    I have a javascript that figures our the interest rate for a mortgage loan based on principal balance, term and monthly payment. The script also rounds up to the nearest 8th. Here is the line code that sets the value on the APEX form:
    document.getElementById('P2_NOTE_RATE_TO_PITIA_31').value = cRate.toFixed(3);
    Obviously this line code doesn't set session state for the value. Users have to submit the form again to pass this new rate to other calculations on the forms.
    Is there another piece of code I need to add to force value to session state? The javascript is called via the page load and it will produce the correct rate when ever values are changed to warrant a new interest rate to be calculated.
    Here is the entire javascript:
    function loanrate() {
    function getVal(item){
    if($x(item).value != "")
    return parseFloat($x(item).value);
    else
    return 0 ;
    //Allow rates of 0 to 100%, solve to the nearest 0.001%
    var a=0.00001;
    var b=1;
    var tol=0.00001;
    var test;
    var t;
    var y1;
    var y2;
    var P = getVal('P2_NEW_BAL_CALC');
    var A = getVal('P2_NEW_PI_TARGET');
    var N = getVal('P2_REMAINING_TERM');
    var nRate;
    var cRate;
    var root;
    var TEMP = a;
    // Allow only 100 iterations (more than enough for convergence)
    for(var k = 1; k<=100; k++) {
    // A*(Math.pow((1+i),N)-1)/(i*Math.pow((1+i),N)) = present worth of N payments of A (beginning
    // 1 period from now)
    // Finally, subtract P (the present worth, or the price).
    i = a;
    y1 = A *(Math.pow((1+i),N)-1)/(i*Math.pow((1+i),N))- P;
    i = b;
    y2 = A *(Math.pow((1+i),N)-1)/(i*Math.pow((1+i),N))- P;
    test = y1*y2;
    // If test>0, the function that is to be driven to zero has the same sign
    // for both sides of the interval.
    if (test>0) {
    b = a;
    a = TEMP;
    a = (a+b)/2;
    } else {
    // If test <0, the root of the equation is between a and b.
    // If the interval is small enough, return (a+b)/2 as the root.
    // If not, bisect the interval: save a as TEMP, move a (new) halfway toward b.
    t = (b-a)/2;
    if (t<tol) {
    root = (a+b)/2;
    // Compute the annual compounded rate, if payments are monthly
    //var annual = 100*(Math.pow((1+root),12)-1);
    root = root * 100;
    nRate = Math.round(1000 * root)/1000 ;
    cRate = (Math.ceil((nRate * 12)/.125)*.125);
    document.getElementById('P2_NOTE_RATE_TO_PITIA_31').value = cRate.toFixed(3);
    //$x_Value('P4_ANNUAL_RATE',Math.round(1000*annual)/1000);
    break;
    } else {
    TEMP = a;
    a = (a+b)/2;
    }

    I believe the following will do what you need.
    document.getElementById('P2_NOTE_RATE_TO_PITIA_31').value = cRate.toFixed(3);
    var get = new htmldb_Get(null,&APP_ID.,'APPLICATION_PROCESS=dummy',0);
    get.add('P2_NOTE_RATE_TO_PITIA_31',$x('P2_NOTE_RATE_TO_PITIA_31').value)
    gReturn = get.get();

  • Submitting the value of an item with session state

    Hi,
    I've a Master / Detail Form on different pages, like master report page no.19, master form page no. 20 and detail form page no. 21. I've created this form using Form, master detail form wizard. I've set deptid as a primary key in master, and foreign key in details table. In page 21, i've set the source for deptid, source used : Always, replacing any existing value in session state, source type : Item (application or page item name), source value : P20_DEPTID. While executing the form deptid is showing the value, but, while submitting of the form, it's not saving in the table. What will be the problem??
    Thanks and Regards,
    Sudha.

    Sudha,
    OK.
    Go to the pagedefintion in page 20, click on the wordt report (of your master form).
    You will get a new screen.
    Click on the pencil-icon of your column.
    Again a new screen.
    Select the six tab (it's called LINK).
    Enter item-name and value something like :p21_dept_id and #DEPT_ID#
    where P21_dept_id is the item of the form for the dept_id
    Hope this helps.

  • Custom Tabular form - Session state values disappear

    Hi,
    I have a custom tabular form page using apex_item and apex_collections. I am using the apex_collection to store the values in memory in order to avoid the data loss in session state. The page is working fine after a validation failure and it shows the values on the second report (as advised for custom tabular forms).
    In this, some of the rows have clob value which needs to be edit on a rich text editor. Since apex_item does not provide a solution to have rich text editor, I have to branch to another page on an Edit link for the CLOB data using a modal window. However When I return back from the modal page, the values disappear from session state, and the validation (using htmldb_application.g_fxx arrays) does not take place.
    Is there any workaround to overcome this issue?
    Apex version: 4.1
    Thanks in advance.
    Natarajan

    Thanks Daniel for your reply.
    Actually its an interface with a custom tabular form on page 1 with apex collections and rich text editor on page 2. Since it is not possible to have the rich text editor, I need to have it in another page (I could have it the same page, that is the way I am trying now) however I open the next page as a modal window.
    I have a link on the tabular form, so that the clob content is opened in the rich text editor on the next page. After the edit, I update it to the same collection and go back to the tabular form page and refreshes the report. It works fine, but causes trouble to the data entered on the other columns in the custom tabular form.
    I have now deviated to another work and put this on a hold. If my explanation is still not clear, I will create the same page in apex.com to simulate the error.
    Thanks again.

  • Session State Values Only Used After a Page Refresh

    We recently moved our application to use Oracle Application Server. I don't know if this is an issue but I thought it might be relevant to my question.
    In this application there is report that has a link to another page. This link sets the ID of the company that the subsequent pages use to provide several summarized reports with drill downs. I'll call this the main page.
    Users recently started to report that when they drill into the details and use the breadcrumbs to get back to the main page, that page will display the wrong company, one they were viewing recently.
    In testing I find that when I click a link to drill down into the details the details page is not for the right company. I check session state and the value of the ID is correct. If I refresh the page I then get the correct drill down page. Some of the drill down reports will pass a page specific ID into each page and others will just reference the ID from the main page. Not sure if this is relevant since the breadcrumbs to go back to the main page would not be able to use every possible page specific ID, my understanding was that once I set the ID in session state on the main page I could rely on it.
    Also if I get the wrong details page and click on the breadcrumb to the main page I get the wrong main page (it displays a previously viewed company). Again the session value is correct and a refresh of the page will bring back the right company.
    Our systems admin was asked to check if we had WebCache on and she said it was not. Is there something else that could be caching the results of these pages?
    Thanks,
    Greg

    Scott,
    This is in version 2.2.1 and there are no caching features available.
    The application does require login.
    I'm playing around with the APP_UNIQUE_PAGE_ID right now but I am finding that even in the builder if I edit the attributes of a report column and then try to edit another column it will bring up the last column I edited. Even if I use the record navigation buttons next to the Apply Changes button it will keep bringing me the same page over and over unless I constantly refresh the pages.

  • Problem since upgrade to 2.0 "Error: Session state protection violation"

    I've upgraded to 2.0. Everything fine except one particular page when I submit it I get "Error: Session state protection violation". I have read up about session state protection, and it is turned off in my application. There are no items, pages or URLs that have any session state protection. There is nothing particularly different about this screen when compared to other screens that work. What can be causing this?
    Steve

    Steve - Thanks for putting that test case out there. This is an odd bug. It happens when you apply the read-only attribute to a "Display as Text (does not save state)" item. Normally, these items are not HTML input items on the page (you see only the value rendered). However, because of a bug, applying the read-only attribute causes an INPUT item to be created. This leads to the problem that you saw -- when an item that should never be POSTed because it is: a) an application item, b) a page item that has the Session State Protection attribute "Restricted - May not be set from browser", or c) a page item of display type "Display as Text (does not save state)", is POSTed, the Session State Protection violation is detected and reported. These checks are performed whether the Session State Protection feature is enabled for the application or not. The reason for that is that checking for cases(a) and (c) is always legitimate and checking for case (b) is always necessary because the Restricted attribute for page items of qualifying display types is always in effect.
    So the workaround in your case is not to use the read-only attribute for the display-only items. They are read-only anyway.
    Thanks again for pointing this out.

  • Session State Protection Confusion!

    Hello all,
    I'm looking into SSP, and find it very confusing; there are so many ways to implement it, and I'm just not sure which I should choose.
    I basically want to stop people tampering with the URL to change the values of variables and the like. I have currently enabled SSP for every page, which seems to work fine.
    However, you can also do it for each item and application item; is this also necessary, or are these options only there if I only wanted to enable SSP for a very specific thing (item) rather than an entire page?
    Does enabling SSP at page level protect the items (application and other) on that page in the same way enabling SSP for each of those items would do?
    Also, are there any implications from using SSP? Will some things not work if I enable it in some instances?
    Thanks for your help.
    Robin

    Robin,
    These are all good questions.
    What situations would arise when you'd want to use "No URL Access" for page access protection and "Restricted - May not be set from browser" for various item protections?
    Sometimes you have pages that you would never want a user to "get to" unless they had used the navigation controls that you built into the application. For example, the intermediate steps within a wizard. You may have seen examples of this in the Application Builder as you step through wizards (and in other places) where you'll be on a page and in the URL all you see is ..wwv_flow.accept, with no f?p URL that tells you what page ID was requested. This is an example of a Branch to Page branch in use. This type of branch does not do a redirect to an f?p URL but instead has the engine's "accept" procedure (from the last page submission) call the engine's "show" procedure directly using PL/SQL without introducing a new HTTP request. So if you have pages like that and you use Branch to Page branches as the "normal" way to get to them AND you want to prevent users from specifying those page IDs in URLS, then this feature of Session State Protection is available to support that.
    and how does the "Restricted - May not..." differ from the "Checksum Required - Session Level"; is that literally where a user can't alter the value of an item in the application, or is there more to it than that?
    Restricted ... prevents an item from being altered from outside the application. The only way you can set or change these items is by application logic. This feature can be used for items even if Session State Protection is not enabled for the application.
    Also, I can't understand just what user level and application level checksums would be useful for.
    Normally, when SSP checksums are generated, they are good for the current session. Say you have a URL like:
    f?p=100:55:ssssssss::NO::P1_ITEM,P2_ITEM:some-value-1,some-value2&cs=38DDFE1C102BDE167BCD66F4C2E77E16E
    A curious user might say, oh, I think I'll bookmark that link and run it again tomorrow to set the same page items to the same values. Well that doesn't work because the checksum is session ID specific. This also makes the hashing algorithm more secure.
    But sometimes you want to provide checksum-secured links that users can bookmark. Maybe you want to email a link to your application to a specific user and the link provides some key value that should be used by that specific user only (and you have authorization logic in the application to enforce that), like f?p...P10_USER_KEY:ABc568zz&cs=238DDFE1C102BDE167BCD66F4C2E77E16D. This is where the use of a User-Level checksum would be applicable. After the user clicks on the link and authenticates, the provided checksum can be verified against a new checksum computed on P10_USER_KEY:ABc568zz. These links can be used across sessions for this type of use but the checksum prevents alteration of the request arguments even by the intended user.
    The third type of checksum is the Application-Level (or Workspace-Level) checksum. Links with this type of checksum can be used by any user so long as the requested application is really the same application from the same workspace that generated the link. The checksum prevents alteration of the request arguments by the user.

  • Trouble setting the session state of a select item.

    Hi,
    I have a requirement whereby I need to change the session state of a select list item in my form without the need to submit. I am using Application Express 4.1.0.00.32. I thought this would be straight forward using a dynamic action or javascript and calling an on demand process for example.
    P1_MY_SELECT onchange="set_option();"
    function set_option() {
    var l_option=$f_SelectValue('P1_MY_SELECT');
    alert( 'My new value is ' + l_option );
    // ON DEMAND Set the new session state value
    var lRequest = new apex.ajax.ondemand
    ('SET_P1_MY_SELECT',function()
    {  /* start the return function */
    var l_s = p.readyState;
    if(l_s == 1||l_s == 2||l_s == 3)
    else if(l_s == 4)
    { gReturn = p.responseText;
         (gReturn)?json_SetItems(gReturn):null;
    else{return false;}
    /* end the return function */
    lRequest.ajax.addParam('x01', l_option );
    lRequest._get()
    My on demand application process
    DECLARE
    l_options varchar2(2000) := wwv_flow.g_x01;
    BEGIN
    APEX_UTIL.SET_SESSION_STATE('P1_MY_SELECT',l_options);
    apex_util.json_from_items('P1_MY_SELECT');
    END;
    Is there a better method to set the session state of my P1_MY_SELECT other than what I am doing as above or can you tell me why the session state of P1_MY_SELECT is not changed?
    Thanks.

    if you are on 4.1 why don't you use a dynamic action instead of writing the code again?
    create a dynamic action like this
    Event: Change
    Source Type: Item
    Item: P1_MY_SELECT
    True Action:
    =========
    Action: Execute Plsql Code
    Plsql Code: null;
    Page Items to Submit: P1_MY_SELECT
    Page Items to Return: P1_MY_SELECT (this is optional)

    Hi Trent,
    Actually, i did not create new DML. and my problem is not with the source.
    in a nutshell,
    the items on the first page have source of Static assignment .. only one item has a default value
    the items on the second page have source of Database Column .. none of the items have default value
    1- What caused the confusion is:
    We run the page 1 , we have an item (Mobile) with a default value ( that means it has a session state value by default ) > Concur.
    I type a value on the second item ( Mobile 2) then set session values.
    both items ( Mobile & Mobile 2 ) have session state values. > Concur.
    Click Modal Page button to trigger the modal page. where the Static URL is:
    f?p=&APP_ID.:2:&APP_SESSION.:::2:P2_MOBILE,P2_MOBILE2,P2_MOBILE3:&P1_MOBILE.,&P1_MOBILE2.,&P1_MOBILE3.We see that only the value of the first item (P1_Mobile) goes to the modal page. but rest of the items do not go.
    I hope that it is clearer now..
    Best Regards,

    If you want details, Please allow me to tell my scenario. I have two forms "Clients", "Inquiries".
    As a client calls, I need to identify whether the client is exit on the DB or not.
    So, as the client calls, we enter the mobile phone number into items that have static assignment source, then click on a button to check if the client details are already on the DB. if yes, the inquiry form shows up. if No, a modal page (that have clients form) pops up to allow inserting the details of the client in items that have Database Column Source . but since we have already inserted the mobile number in the the first step.. I do not want to insert them again in the client form.

  • Items in session state not behaving as expected

    And again...
    (I hope I'm not asking too much, posting 2 new questions in under 5 min....)
    This is something new I experienced: I need to show the value of an item (P210_EXTERNAL_ID) on a page (P215)
    ... not a big thing I thought... BUT when I tried to do this I hit the ground pretty rough (I thought I had actually gained some knowledge about html-db.)
    My problem is that I pass on a lot of values from P200 (the report) to P215 (the form) and I reached the limit of characters, that can be used to specify the link (to P215).
    So I thought to myself: Well, lets do it different!
    I tried:
    - specifying a default for the item on P215: P215_EXTERNAL_ID,
    - specifying the source for P215_EXTERNAL_ID,
    - creating a computation on P215_EXTERNAL_ID,
    - filling P215_EXTERNAL_ID 'manually' with a process...
    none of these did play the trick for me.
    (By the way, I used both syntaxes to reference :P210_EXTERNAL_ID and &P210_EXTERNAL_ID.)
    I used Display as Text (saves state) for the item on P215: P215_EXTERNAL_ID,
    the item on P210: P210_EXTERNAL_ID is a Text Field.
    The unexpected thing I experienced, was that the Item on P215 stayed empty or lagged behind:
    - visit P210 with P210_EXTERNAL_ID = 1234
    --- branch to P215 (P215_EXTERNAL_ID is empty)
    - revisit P210 with P210_EXTERNAL_ID = 5
    --- branch to P215 (P215_EXTERNAL_ID = 1234)
    - revisit P210 with P210_EXTERNAL_ID = 66
    --- branch to P215 (P215_EXTERNAL_ID = 5)
    After realizing this I took a look at the session (with the link at the bottom of each page).
    And in the Session State the value of P210_EXTERNAL_ID was the old value (always one behind)!!!
    Has anybody ever seen something like this??
    I'm really running out of ideas here.

    Bill,
    Usually I use the pass-on-only-the-PK method too, but here I built something like a consolidated view on a table: one row in the report doesn't correspond to one row in the table, but a group of rows, that are located in the same freezer, same shelf, same rack and same box. So the PK woun't work here b/c I don't have one in the first place... But the thing with referencing other pages items might do the trick to bring down the number of other values I pass on.
    Another thought with the example:
    - visit P210 with P210_EXTERNAL_ID = 1234
    --- branch to P215 (P215_EXTERNAL_ID is empty)
    - revisit P210 with P210_EXTERNAL_ID = 5
    --- branch to P215 (P215_EXTERNAL_ID = 1234)
    - revisit P210 with P210_EXTERNAL_ID = 66
    --- branch to P215 (P215_EXTERNAL_ID = 5)
    When I click on the edit button on P210 to go to P215, is the page P210 not submitted?
    If that's the case, I understand why P210_EXTERNAL_ID in Session State has the last, but not the current value.... Since I branche off that page before submit, the items current values are not written to session state.
    Anyone any thoughts to that???

  • Proxyless clustering and SSL session state

    The current 6.0 docs are a bit quiet on SSL and clustering, so can I check
              whether it is the case that when proxy-less clustering is used with SSL, a
              failover results in a new certificate exchange and crypto session
              establishment? In other words, the clustering isn't attempting to replicate
              the SSL session state or similar super-subtle strategy.
              Thanks!

              Alex,
              A failover will result in a new SSL connection being started. As you say
              this will mean that certificate exchange and session key exchange will occur
              again. All of the replicated state is kept at a higher level in the server
              so that we can use different SSL implementations including hardware
              accelerators.

  • Nothing set in session state after upgrade to 4.0.2

    hi -- I just patched up to 4.0.2 from 4.0.1. When I run my applications (any of them) nothing is showing
    in session state -- application items or page items. I don't think it's just an issue w/ the "session"
    reporting functionality because I'm also getting errors that indicate that values are not being set.
    Unfortunately, I did not export applications before the upgrade, or back up the database (though we
    have one from last night...).
    Help? Just want my apps working again!
    Thanks,
    Carol

    hi -- Well, you're on target:
    - I am using custom authentication (and apps that don't use it seem to work fine) - & -
    - The applications in question work fine when run directly.... that is, not via the developer.
    Unfortunately, I'm still having the problem after applying the patch. Actually, just once it did
    work... this was after I first applied the patch: I completely rebooted my machine and when I
    first went into the developer and ran it w/o doing anything else first, I didn't have the problem. Every
    time thereafter I have had the problem.... including after rebooting again.
    I have no reason to suspect the patch didn't work... very simple patch, no errors.
    For what it's worth... I can't say that I entirely tracked everything in the thread you pointed me to
    about sessions getting mixed up, but it does look like the session ids for developer vs the applications
    I'm running in developer are consistent throughout (at least, based on what I see in the URL). Is it
    normal that when I run an app via the builder, that the session_id that shows up on the login page
    is the developer session_id? A new session_id then shows when at the home page of the application...
    Any other ideas? Absolutely nothing is showing up in session state, anywhere. I'm very frustrated....
    I'm almost at the point where I want to use our latest database backup and revert back to 4.0.1. It doesn't
    have what I (apparently) need to get master/details working as I need them to, but at least I can proceed with
    other development!
    Hopefully there's an easier solution.
    Thanks,
    Carol

  • How to tell if a user is issuing 'alter session statements'

    When I run 'alter session' from sqlplus in my schema, this does not get parsed and go to v$sql or show up in v$open_cursor. I have a user that is running queries from informatica. He says he is passing alter session statements through informatica, I want to see if they actually get there. The person is not real versed in oracle and I don't know informatica.
    i cant turn on trace cause he connects and disconnects and this would run immediately, I am not in a position to turn on system level tracing, add a trigger, or turn on auditing (not allowed).
    anyway to tell from a data dictionary view or something like that if these were issued by a given session? The queries run for a few minutes, so I have a bit before his session disconnects to query the data. I can't get him to change his code to stay connected. Is there a view that shows parameter changes for a given session?
    oracle: 10.2.0.5
    4 alter session commands are:
    Alter session set sort_area_size=999999999;
    Alter session set hash_area_size=999999999;
    Alter session set db_file_multiblock_read_count = 128;
    alter session enable parallel dml;

    i cant turn on trace cause he connects and disconnects and this would run immediately, I am not in a position to turn on system level tracing, add a trigger, or turn on auditing (not allowed). If Informatica connects to Oracle via network, capturing TCP/IP traffic and mining in it may be your last resort.
    you can get session's PDML status from
    select pdml_status from v$session;
    i cant turn on trace cause he connects and disconnects and this would run immediatelythis contradicts to your following statement
    The queries run for a few minutes, so I have a bit before his session disconnects to query the data.
    I can't get him to change his code to stay connected. Informatica should have debug. Ask him if he can go step by step.
