Session Variables to control Datasource used by iBots

Hello everyone,
i'd like to know whether it is possible to control the session which is used by iBots.
What i want to achieve is, that i can start an iBot within a certain session with given parameters, based on session variables.
I have one SessionVariable "sDB" which can be set to =1 or =2. This is controled via the URL used to start OBIEE.
Now i want to control my ibots by forcing them to start with sDB=1 or sDB=2 etc.
Does anybody know a solution. Any hint might help aswell.
Thanks!

Thank you David for the response. As you guessed, I'm fairly new with session variables. What I'm looking for is as follows-
On my Architecture website, I have an html form where clients would enter their design preferences and Submit. The website then sends an email to the client with the details they had entered; for confirmation. This had worked properly with form variables as the email is sent right after the form is filled.
However, now I have added a License agreement page and a second form with other design details, which has to be filled in before the client's email is sent. So, I've set the Page1 form variables as session variables to carry over to the 4th page where it is sent as email. I am able to retrieve the session variables on the fourth page, but what I require is the correct syntax for using it in the subject field and the message body of the email, so that the clients get them in their email.
I had earlier used the following php code for sending emails using form variables-
    $to="From: $email";
    $subject="$name, Thank you for visiting our website.";
    $from="[email protected]";
    $msg="Your Reg. details-\r\n\n$name\r\n$address\r\n\nPhone No: $phone \r\nE mail: $email \r\n\nMessage:\n$message";
    $fla=mail($to,$subject,$msg,$from);
; where the form variables are- $name, $address, $phone, $email, $message
I have now set them as session variables-
<?php
session_start();
$_SESSION['name'] = $name;
$_SESSION['address'] = $address;
$_SESSION['phone'] = $phone;
$_SESSION['email'] = $email;
$_SESSION['message'] = $message;
?>
; and I'm being able to retrieve them on the 4th subsequent page. As mentioned, what I am looking for is the correct syntax to use this data in a php email code.
I will be very grateful if you could provide me with a sample php email code for sending an email with session variables in the 'from', 'to', 'subject' and 'message' fields.

  • Setting session variables in application context using OpenJPA

    Hi!
    I am using openjpa 1.2 with EJB 3.0. I am connecting to Oracle 11g database and need to use the oracle virtual private database for security and data segregation. For this purpose, I need to set some custom variables at the session level of the application context such as the application user name. Since, I am using container injected EntityManager using @PersistenceContext, I am finding it hard to do so.
    Can anyone please help me out
    Thanks in advance
    Abhi

    You will probably want to ask your question on an OpenJPA forum to see if they even can support VPD (if not, see EclipseLink http://wiki.eclipse.org/Introduction_to_EclipseLink_Sessions_(ELUG)#Isolated_Client_Sessions_and_Oracle_Virtual_Private_Database_.28VPD.29 )
    You might also want to try injecting the factory instead and use that to get the EntityManager instead of injecting the em directly. ie
    @PersistenceUnit(unitName="my-pu")
    private EntityManagerFactory emf;

  • Dates Format in Promts using Session Variables

    Hi Experts,
    I have an issue in controlling date format in prompts using session variable which I am using to set default value.
    By default date format is timestamp E.g '2010-12-19 12:00:00 AM'.
    As per requriement(s) I customized the date format in Reports as 19-Dec-2010 and I saved it as "System Wide Default for <Date Column Name> "
    So, I got desired format in Reports and Date Prompts.
    Now, I need to set a default value in Date Prompt. So, in RPD I created a Session Variable which returned me date in
    DD-MON-YYYY format. Using follwing SQL :
    SELECT REPLACE(CONVERT(VARCHAR(11), Getdate (), 106), ' ', '-') AS [DD-Mon-YYYY]
    But in reports takes this value as string and not Datetime. So i got an error message.
    A datetime value was expected (received "19-Dec-2010").
    If i do not use above SQL to CONVERT date then default date in prompt get displayed as timestamp format and give me desired results but Formatting looks very odd in prompt
    Is this a way so I can persist the [DD-Mon-YYYY] Formatting for default value which comes using variable and still run the report.
    Above problem also exist vice versa that is if i SET that session variable and pass the datetime value to server. But there i guess I can use ToDate or some Casting in RPD column expression to handle that. Tell me if i am right ?
    Thanks
    Saurabh

    That almost works. I had to adjust the syntax to the following...and then there are other issues doing this.
    select cust_no, name,'@{session.currentUser}' from customersMy write-back SQL is this:
    UPDATE customers SET NAME='@{c1}',LAST_EDITED_BY='@{c2}' WHERE CUST_NO=@{c0}But I don't want to display the cust_no column to the user. So I hide it in the UI. But if I do that I get the below error during write-back. Apparently sometimes when you hide a column on a direct query (numeric maybe?) the value doesn't transfer over to the write-back. If that's the case, this won't work for me. Hmm...

  • Using HttpHeader to set value for session variables

    Hi,
    We want to set values for 2 session variables (USER and ROLEID) using HttpHeader in obiee 11g. Has anyone tried this? How can we achieve this?
    I found the below note on the forum for setting value for the USER session variable. how can we set the ROLEID session variable also? is it possible to set values for 2 variables?
    for setting the USER session variable,
    You should add this in $BI_HOME/bifoundation/web/display/authenticationschemas.xml:
    <SchemaKeyVariable source="httpHeader" nameInSource="Proxy-Remote-User" forceValue="SSO"/>
    <AuthenticationSchema name="SSO" displayName="Single Sign On" userID="IMPERSONATE" proxyUserID="NQ_SESSION.RUNAS" options="noLogoffUI noLogonUI">
    <RequestVariable source="httpHeader" type="auth" nameInSource="Proxy-Remote-User" biVariableName="IMPERSONATE" options="required"/>
    </AuthenticationSchema>
    Please suggest.
    Thanks.

    I think maybe your SnmpValue type or value is not corrent.
    1.3.6.1.4.1.7064.201.1.200.100.0 is Enum control type
    when I use
    SnmpValue val = new SnmpString("0");
    It doesn't work, but when I use
    SnmpValue val = new SnmpInt(0);
    It works. I think the JDMK should give some warning message when the type is not correct. :)
    The code is following:
    final SnmpVarBindList setList = new SnmpVarBindList(" set varbind list ");
    SnmpOid oid = new SnmpOid("1.3.6.1.4.1.7064.201.1.200.100.0");
    SnmpValue val = new SnmpInt(0);
    SnmpVarBind valueBind = new SnmpVarBind(oid, val);
    setList.addVarBind( valueBind );
    SnmpRequest setRequest = session.snmpSetRequest(null, setList);

  • Can we use session variables in BI publisher's Data Model SQL Query?

    Hi Experts,
    We need to implement Data level security in BI Publisher 11g.
    In OBIEE we do so by using session variables, so just wanted to ask if we can use the same session variables in BI Publisher as well
    ie can we include the where clause in the Data Models SQL Query like
    Where ORG_ID = @{biServer.variables['NQ_SESSION.INV_ORG']}
    Let me know your views on this.
    PS: We are implementing EBS r12 security in BI Publisher.

  • Use of a Session Variable in another session variable in OBIEE

    Hi,
    I want to use a session variable say A to calculate value of another session variable B. I am using valueof(NQ_SESSION.A) in the initialization block of variable B. But the result is coming blank. I know that the value exists. I have also set the precedence for B to run variable A first.
    Am I missing something here?

    vkos, it works fine for me as my first variable it's initialized when a user logins so the second variable can use its value. What you are trying to do it's not possible. It's not clear if the OP is trying to do the same thing but I will agree that if it is trying to initiliaze a session variable at runtime this is not going to work. You will either have to use presentation variables or update the session variable via GO URL or via Advanced settings in Answers. See the following posts:

  • Session variable in 'rendered'  tag

    Hello,
    I would like to use a session variable to control whether a component is rendered or not.
    My idea looks like this:
    <h:outputText   value=" #{p.p.ql}"    rendered="#{p.p.ql ==  ' <%= session variable here %> '     }" />the synthax ' <%= session variable here %> ' is not correct and does not work.
    Can a session variable be used this way ? What is the correct way to write this ?
    Thank you very much.

    in jsf you can set whether a tag is rendered or not, so it is not a renderd 'tag' but rather an 'attribute' to a tag.

  • Session variables being lost in IE7

    has anyone else experienced, heard of, or solved this issue?
    I have a web app thats been running fine for 5+ years and using session variables (i'm currently using CF8).
    When a user goes from page to page the session is carried with them so i know their login info. However, recently some users (and not all) have complained that after logging in fine (meaning the sessions variables are created) and go to another page off of the main one only to get a timeout issue. I've compared everything from IE settings to server settings, etc. but found no differences. It's like once they navigate to another page in the app the sessions are not carried to the next page.
    My timeout code is written so that if the session variables that are created at login are not present the message will show.
    Some users had to revert back to IE6 and it worked fine. Is there something they did wrong with ther IE update or is there some sort of server hot fix for this?
    Hope someone can help... i'm baffled.

    That forum you posted is definitely my issue! However it still is unresolved and the users have yet to pinpoint the cause (just like me). I too firmly believe its due to an IE7 upgrade b/c that is when this happens.
    I've checked out the user cookies. I used this script and put it on my server and had the user try it:
    http://www.bennadel.com/blog/730-Testing-ColdFusion-Session-Cookie-Acceptance.htm
    The cookies are passing over to the next pages fine (this script showed a success on the user machines). But ye the sessions are lost in my app. the CFID and CFTOKEN are changing when the user clicks to go to another page after login.
    In fact I have the CF8 server monitor up and running and when someone logs in I can see the their session info under the MEMORY USAGE --> Sessions by memory usage.
    I'm finding that users with this issue can log in fine but the session never gets registered with the server?!? Their CFID and CFTOKEN is not showing as an active session and when they click to another page their CFID is always different than their original?
    Any thoughts?

  • 'In Between' Date Prompt to set Session Variables???

    Hi
    Im very new to OBIEE and was hoping someone could help me. I have a date prompt using the 'in between' operator based on a date column.
    I am trying to set up a table in the Physical layer of the RPD using a stored proc (EXEC sp_name). The stored proc takes 2 input paramaters - a start data and an end date. These dates i would like to come from the in between prompt. I have set up the physical table structure to receive the results of the request.
    I looked at setting a session variable but it is asking me to insert sql to set the value and i dont want to hit the database outside of the stored proc. Also, even if i have session variables i cant see how to set them to the values in the prompt when using the 'In Between' operator.
    Im really very confused and i have been searching the net and the documentation for any clue.
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks

    In between operator doesn't support presentation variable..
    so break this into is into two prompts...and use equal to operator, then you can use them as request variables which will in turn override your session variables.
    in the report use operator between and use these variables in the filter..

  • Access session variable in Java Function in JSP

    Hi Experts !!
    I am developing an application using STRUTS MVC...
    Very sorry if u have problem understanding my question, i ll try to improve... and sorry if i can't post codes here
    Basic question is ....
    I want to open a word document on pageLoad of JSP, the word document is not a single document, there is a form in which there is a "name" and "template" whenever user clicks on a button there is one action attached to it which creates a copy of that template in a different folder.. on the next page OnLoad i want to open that particular document. for that i have created a variable and also have set in the session, just want to access it in the below code.
    I have a formbean in which i have a variable, the scope is session, that variable i have put it in session also. but i want to access that variable in a "java function" in JSP so that "onLoad" page that function should work.
    JSP---
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function openDocument() {
    var w = new ActiveXObject("Word.Application");
    var docText;
    var obj;
    var a;
    if (w != null) {
    w.Visible = true;
    obj = w.Documents.Open(I HAVE TO ACCESS THAT VARIABLE HERE);
    </script>
    FORMBEAN----
    public class CreateSOWFormBean extends ActionForm {
    private String workflowName;
    private String comment;
    private String sowTemplate;
    private String sowFileCreated;
    public String getSowFileCreated() {
    return sowFileCreated;
    public void setSowFileCreated(String sowFileCreated) {
    this.sowFileCreated = sowFileCreated;
    sowFileCreated is the variable that i have accessed in session and that value i have to pass in that function in JSP....
    I am aware of something like
    obj = w.Documents.Open(<%'sowFileCreated'%>);
    but i m not sure how to write....
    Plz help.....

    If you're working under a framework like struts you should definitely be using JSTL tags rather than scriptlet code to access variables within the page. With JSTL code <% codes can be almost entirely avoided.
    To transfer a value from a Servlet to a JSP don't use a session variable, use a request attribute. Session variables should only be used when values have to survive from one transaction to another.
    You can write something like:
    obj = w.Documents.open('<c:out value="${openURL}"/>');in the Javascript portion of your JSP.
    Just beware of potential problems with quotes. The coresponding code in the Servlet would be like:
    request.setAttribute("openURL", openUrl);

  • Purchased ColdFusion 10: Having problem with session variables

    My Dept. has just bought CF10 and I'm finally updating my existing web app to CF10 from CF8. My First Problem with CF10 is using session variables.
    When using the lower version of CF (since CF 4 to 8) I have never had any problem setting up session variables and getting or using these variables in other pages after a successful login but with CF 10 it seems setting session variables and using them in other pages are a major problems. I'm not sure where have I done wrong in the codes.
    First I'm setting the session in my Application.cfc This way:
    <cfcomponent displayname="Application" output="true">
      <cfset THIS.Name ="MyNewApp"/>
      <cfset THIS.ApplicationTimeout = CreateTimeSpan(0,0,20,0) />
      <cfset THIS.SessionManagement ="YES"/>
      <cfset THIS.SessionTimeout = CreateTimeSpan( 0, 0, 20, 0 ) />
      <cfset THIS.SetClientCookies = false />
    <cffunction name="OnApplicationStart" access="public" returntype="boolean" output="false">
    <cfset application.Main_DSN = "TESTDB">

    <cfset session.userrights = "">

  • What is session variables in BSP

    Hi
    I am using using IC Webclient. can anyone help me to findout the details about session varibales ?
    Best Regards
    Bhavishya

    hi,
    Session variables is a handy way to define a persistent variable.The standard variables used in ColdFusion can be only transferred or sent to the next page before it is necessary to restate the variable. In some situations, you may want to define a variable that will apply to all the pages during a single session of the user. An example is when the pages a user sees are personalized to his or her specific needs. In such a case, session variables are defined and used.
    Session variable persistent
    A session variable is one of several types of variables that persist across multiple templates:
    >Server variables - Accessible by all clients and applications on a single
    >Application variables - Tied to a single application and accessible by multiple clients
    >Client variables - Tied to a single client over multiple sessions
    >Session variables - Exist for one client or browser during a single session
    >Cookie variables
    Session variables are designed to hold information that you seldom write but are read often.
    Defining session variables
    Session variables are normally defined in the Application template, but can be also defined on all applicable pages.
    Application template
    The standard method of using session variables is to define them in the application.cfm template, which is a special ColdFusion page that is processed before the other pages in a session. It usually should be in the session root directory.
    CFAPPLICATION tag
    To enable the use of session variables, as well as client and application management, you should use the CFAPPLICATION tag in the Application template. A typical tag would be:
    <CFAPPLICATION NAME="Name"
    SESSIONMANAGEMENT="Yes"
    SESSIONTIMEOUT="#CreateTimeSpan(0, 0, 20, 0)#">
    where:
    >NAME is required to avoid problems if you have session variables tied to separate applications.
    >SESSIONMANAGEMENT is required to enable the session variables.
    >SESSIONTIMEOUT is optional and limits the time the variables will stay in memory (20 minutes in the example) Note that the default is 20 minutes, so you really may not need this unless you want to change that number.
    Setting variables
    After the CFAPPLICATION tag, you can set your session variables, using the CFSET tag. You must always refer to session variables with the prefix session. Thus, you could define a session variable, such as:
    <CFSET session.name="#form.othername#">
    Should lock variables
    You should lock the session variables to avoid problems when several people are using the system at the same time. An example of this is:
    <CFLOCK TIMEOUT="30" NAME="#session.sessionID#" TYPE="Exclusive">
    <CFSET session.name="#form.othername#">
    </CFLOCK>
    Defined on applicable pages
    A problem in using the Application.cfm template is that it is often difficult to change your session variables, once they have been set. An alternative is to use the CFAPPLICATION tag in each applicable page:
    <CFAPPLICATION NAME="Name"
    SESSIONMANAGEMENT="Yes">
    You then can define the session variable in the first page, accessed:
    <CFOUTPUT QUERY="return">

    This is a compromise between the standard method and defining the variable on each page.
    Example of use
    Suppose a user logged in to the site. His name could be sent through a form and entered in Application.cfm. Then the session will constantly refer to him by name.
    Application.cfm
    <CFAPPLICATION NAME="Name"
    SESSIONMANAGEMENT="Yes">
    <CFSET session.name="#form.othername#">
    Start.cfm
    <CFOUTPUT>
    <H1>Hello #session.name#</H1>
    </CFOUTPUT>

  • Passing Auto numbers as Session variables

    Hi,
    I have a large survey which I want to split into different
    web pages, I want to keep the primary key filtering through onto
    each page so it keeps it all together, which I would normally do
    using a session variable. However when I insert the record, I don't
    insert the primary key field, therefore how do i pick it up as a
    session variable?
    I tried using hidden fields, but it tries to insert a null
    value. I'm sure I'm missing something really straight forward.
    Thanks

    Sorry, it's an ASP application with an Access 2003
    database
