Session: Waiting and Working Chart

I am using OEM 10g (Grid control) to monitor my database.
But I don know what does the Y axis on the chart (Session: Waiting and Working) mean ?
Thanks for your help.
Note: Click Home page -> Database -> Performance -> Sessions: Waiting and Working.

2 store the user name in the session to display as a welcome message to the user when they are logged in.]
in class where you match the username and password .if given user is exist in records then set it into session
HttpSession session =request.getSession();
session.setAttribute("",);
3 tell the user they dont exist in the database or that there password is wrong and give them the option to either A) reset the password or B) create a user
in same class if user does not exist the redirect the request to different pages in that pages you put these two like A) reset the password or B) create a user

  • Wait and notify in servlets?

    i am having a servlet , which is implementing wait and notify of java.lang.Object.
    when serving it for single request , its waiting and working fine...
    but for multiple requests its not serving properly. works one by one means the second request is waiting for finishing the first request just like SingleThreadModel (after finishing the first request only second request entering inside servlet)
    please help me to solve this?
    or is there any other way to call wait method without synchronized block??

    Shynihan wrote:
    or is there any other way to call wait method without synchronized block??No, and that's partly because if wait or notify is the only thing in the synchronized block then you probably aren't using them right. The problem is blocking the server thread. Servlet engines use a thread pool to execute transactions, when a new transaction comes in a thread is taken from the pool to run it, and there's usually a limited number of threads in the pool. If there's no threads left then the transaction will wait for another to finish.
    If your servlets freeze up, then that's a thread gone from the pool.
    And remeber the unlocking transaction may never arive. The client could go down at any time, leaving the server thread permanently hung.
    You need to move this waiting to the client side. If the transaction cannot proceed then return a "come back later" response immediately. The client can then retry after a decent interval.

  • Hi I am having problems downloading and updating apps on my iPad and iPhone. The message cycles between waiting and loading then I get an error message saying unable to download app. Eventually,after many attempts it works.

    Hi Guys - for a few days I have been having problems downloading and updating apps on my iPad and iPhone. The message cycles between waiting and downloading then eventually says unable to download app. Sometimes after many attempts it wil eventually work. I tested it on an old iPhone 3G and got the same problem so it is not an iOS 5 issue. My WI-FI connection is working fine. I was wondering if this is an App Store problem? Anyone else in the UK having this problem?

    Hi John
    iTunes Support wasn't of any use to me.
    I have also been having another problem - with BBC iPlayer and other video streaming not working due to insufficient bandwidth, despite my overall download speed being consistently around 50Gb.  This is also affecting AppleTV downloads
    I am using Virgin Media as my ISP, and was wondering whether you do as well.  This might be the common thread.

    Google search does not work. It does not bring back any results and disables my internet connection. I have to close the browser, wait, and then open it again. It only seems to happen when I am signed into my Google account. If I am signed out the search functions properly.

  • Latest update of iWork is bugged - spanish language and not working Charts view in Inspector in Numbers

    Latest iWork update ("iWork Update 6", version 9.1) got my Numbers broken. I'm Polish user and I use Numbers in Polish language. After latest iWork Update I can't use Numbers - everything is fine, everything works, everything is in Polish, but...
    When I select Charts in Numbers' Inspector it is in Spanish and it does not work at all - looks like broken view/nib/whatever. It is not random - I mean I've installed the update on one Mac (10.6.8) and it is in Spanish, I've installed it on my MacBook and it is in Spanish and I did not installed it on my iMac and it is working! That implicites that the "iWork Update 6" makes Numbers broken (again, not working Charts inpsector pane and Spanish instead of Polish).
    However - when I change user language from Polish to English, log out and log in, than run Numbers, everything looks ok - Charts inpector pane is in English and it does work. That is kinda workaround, however this is not a solution!
    I tried to install iWork from the CD (so not updated), however it doesn't work either - update must be somewhere hidden in system. I need this repaired, because it makes Numbers unusable and makes my work harder :|

  • HT2404 I'm trying to update apps and download new ones on mi ipad, but it doesn't work... the icons say "waiting" and nothing happens for days!

    I'm trying to update apps and download new ones on mi ipad, but it doesn't work... the icons say "waiting" and nothing happens for days!Help!

    Here are a bunch of things that you can try to get the downloads to resume.
    Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
    Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
    If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
    Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
    Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign in and then try to update again. Tap one waiting icon only if necessary to start the download stream.
    You can also try deleting the waiting icons - tap and hold down on an icon until it wiggles - the tap the X on the icon to delete it. Then try to download again.
    You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your app preferences and device settings again.
    If all else fails, download the updates or the apps in iTunes on your computer and then sync the content to your iPad.

    Ipad ios 5.1.
    Apps categories and top charts stopped working. It this an ipad problem or server problem. The ipad is two days old and all setting are default.
    Thanks.

    Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. The screen will go blank and then power ON again in the normal way.] It is 'appsolutely' safe!

  • Synchronize work from multiple threads using wait() and notifyAll() help

    Hello folks,
    (Sorry for my bad english)
    My current project handles multiple access requests to a shared collection from multiple threads originating from different classess and methods. Therefor I need to keep track of the order in which the Threads access that collection. I wrote a sort of Buffer class that has a static instance entry which initiate a new Instance of my Buffer class, attributes the instance a cue number and return the instance to the caller Thread.(Just like when you go to a supermarket and draw a number to wait to get served at the cheese counter).The callerThread then uses this instance to execute a method within the buffer class. Inside the buffer class method, I want to set a while loop on wait() just like this:
    while(currentCue != myCueState)
    wait();
    when all other prior method calls within my Buffer class are done, the loop should wake up using a notifyAll() call and check the condition "currentCue != myCueState" agen to see if its turn has come.
    I am new to the wait() and notifyAll() stuff and are therefor not sure what I am dooing wrong here: The only way this buffer class finishes all it's cues is when the caller Threads are beeing executed in the same order than they have checked in to the Buffer class. Otherwise I get some sort of dead-lock in the middle. Here is my code for the Buffer class:
    public class Buffer{
        private static int currentCue = 0;
        private static int lastCued = 0;
        private int myCueState;
        private Buffer myInstance = null;
        synchronized void doTaskOne(){
            try{
                while(currentCue != myCueState)
                    wait();
                //Do your task now
                System.out.println("doTaskOne got Executed: "+currentCue);
                currentCue++;
                notifyAll();
            catch(Exception a){}
        synchronized void doTaskTwo(){
             try{
                while(currentCue != myCueState)
                    wait();
                //Do your task now
                System.out.println("doTaskTwo got Executed: "+currentCue);
                currentCue++;
                notifyAll();
            catch(Exception a){}
        synchronized void doTaskThree(){
            try{
                while(currentCue != myCueState)
                    wait();
                //Do your task now
                System.out.println("doTaskThree got Executed: "+currentCue);
                currentCue++;
                notifyAll();
            catch(Exception a){}
        synchronized Object getSomething(){
            try{
                while(currentCue != myCueState)
                    wait();
                //Do your task now
                System.out.println("getSomething got Executed");
                currentCue++;
                notifyAll();
            catch(Exception a){}
            return "something";
        //Access the buffer class through a single static synchronized instance and draw a turn number
        public synchronized Buffer instance(){
            myInstance = new Buffer();
            myInstance.setMyCueState();
            return myInstance;
        private void setMyCueState(){
             myCueState = lastCued;
             lastCued++;
    }and here for the Test class I have coded to test this:
    public class TestBuffer{
         private Buffer accessOne;
         private Buffer accessTwo;
         private Buffer accessThree;
         private Buffer accessFour;
         public TestBuffer(){
                    //Instantiate different instances from Bufferclass and draw a number
              accessThree = new Buffer().instance();
              accessOne = new Buffer().instance();
              accessTwo = new Buffer().instance();
              accessFour = new Buffer().instance();
              Thread one = new Thread(){
                   public void run(){
                        accessOne.doTaskOne();
              Thread two = new Thread(){
                   public void run(){
                        accessTwo.doTaskTwo();
              Thread three = new Thread(){
                   public void run(){
                        accessThree.doTaskThree();
              Thread four = new Thread(){
                   public void run(){
                        accessFour.getSomething();
              try{
                   one.start();
                   two.start();
                   three.start();
                   four.start();
              catch(Exception f){}
         public static void main(String args[]){
              TestBuffer myTest = new TestBuffer();
    }What am I doing wrong here??
    Maby this is not how I should use the notifyAll() method, but how then?
    Please give me a solution!
    Thanks

    Ok, so if I get you guys right, the following should do it:
    public class Buffer{
        private static Object sharedLock = new Object();
        public void doTaskOne(){
              synchronized(sharedLock)  {
                System.out.println("doTaskOne got Executed: ");
        public void doTaskTwo(){
             synchronized(sharedLock)  {
                System.out.println("doTaskTwo got Executed: ");
        public void doTaskThree(){
             synchronized(sharedLock)  {
                  System.out.println("doTaskThree got Executed: ");
        public Object getSomething(){
            synchronized(sharedLock)  {
                System.out.println("getSomething got Executed");
                return "something";
    }Lets say that each method accesses the same ressources (in this case a table model) to retreave values, delete rows and set some existing values vith new values and all this 20-30 times a minute, all processing will stay synchronised and collision is not possible?
    And lets say I would update the Table model directly from the buffer Class using MyTableModel.instance().setValueAt() or watever methods I implemented on my Table model, could I safely do that using "SwingUtilities.invokeLater();" from my BufferClass just like this:
    public void doTaskThree(){
            synchronized(sharedLock)  {
                   Runnable runme = new Runnable(){
                         public void run(){
                                MyTableModel.instance().setValueAt("abc", 5,5);
                   SwingUtilities.invokeLater(runme);
    }Thanks in advance for your help guys!

  • In-memory replication of http session is not working in BEA7 cluster

              Hi everyone,
              I have 3 managed servers in Bea7.0 SP4 in a cluster. The client requests are sent
              through apache web server. I have given cluster address as URL in httpd.conf of
              apache server which sends the client requests for dynamic pages such as JSPs and
              servlets to the weblogic cluster.
              Load balancing is working fine. I ensured this from the log files of all the 3
              servers. All the 3 servers are getting different client requests and thus load
              balancing is working.
              Now, I wanted to achieve Fail-over. I do not think that i should use proxy plug-in
              for this. I feel the cluster itself will handle fail-over provided i make the
              http session as memory replicated.
              I updated the weblogic.xml with the following entry :
              <session-descriptor>
              <param-name>PersistentStoreType</param-name>
              <param-value>replicated</param-value>
              </session-param>
              </session-descriptor>
              I guess this is sufficient to make the http session as cluster aware.
              But when I shutdown server1, the user connected to server1 will be kicked out
              of the session and come to login page through server2 or server3 which are running
              fine.
              Could anyone help me to achieve http session as cluster aware. Does it indicate
              that I have to go for WLS proxy – HttpClusterServlet to achieve fail over for
              http session ?
              BTW, for your info, i am using setAttribute() and getAttribute() while manipulating
              the session.
              thanks in advance.

              Hi Ryan,
              Thanks for ur valuable input.
              I can see failover working.
              But, I can not continue with the same session in my application.
              I printed session Ids before and after failover, I found both are different.
              I guess session replication is a responsibility of weblogic/apache plugin.
              If not please let me know which all settings I should do to make failover working?
              Thanks again.

  • Session state and browser cache - Back button problem

    Hi all,
    I have a problem (and unless I'm missing something I think we all do) with session state and use of the browser's Back button. I really hope I'm just being dumb...
    Background scenario:
    Page P has a sidebar list allowing the user to select what content is displayed (e.g. 'stuff relating to X, Y or Z' where X, Y and Z are rows in, say, a table of projects). When a list entry is clicked, we branch to page P with the value of the list item placed in an application-level item (call it G_PROJECT). Reports on page P use G_PROJECT in their WHERE clauses.
    So, click list entry X and G_PROJECT is set to X and page P shows reports for project X.
    Page P also has a set of buttons which branch to various edit pages which allow attributes of page P's current project to be updated. These pages similarly use G_PROJECT in their WHERE clauses.
    Problem scenario:
    1. The user goes to page P and picks project X off the list. Project X's stuff is displayed (G_PROJECT = X).
    2. The user then picks project Y off the list. Project Y's stuff is displayed (G_PROJECT = Y).
    3. The user then clicks the browser's Back button. The page is served from browser cache, so project X's stuff is displayed, but G_PROJECT still = Y.
    4. The user clicks an 'Edit' button; we submit, and branch to an edit page which displays (and will edit) data for project Y because G_PROJECT still = Y.
    This is SERIOUSLY BAD NEWS - apart from being confusing, the user's edit permissions on projects X and Y may differ, and so the user may be able to perform 'illegal' updates.
    I've read what I can on this forum and the rest of the web looking for ways to a) inhibit browsers' 'Back' functions and/or b) prevent pages being cached by the browser, but none of them have worked for me.
    Short of waiting for browser manufacturers to recognise that the web is now full of applications as well as static pages, and enable robust programmatic control of cache behaviour, does anybody know how the problem can be avoided - or at least detected?
    Thanks,
    jd

    Thanks Scott,
    I may be being dumb here but I don't see how that would help...
    P250_PROJECT and G_PROJECT are currently kept in sync by app logic. Whichever is used to drive, if the page is rendered from cache then the app logic is not executed, so the rendered page contents are not those keyed by P250_PROJECT, as illustrated in steps 1-4 of the problem above.
    The user sees X, the session items say Y. The engine doesn't know what the user is seeing.
    when page P is POSTed, its hidden item P250_PROJECT should always be used to derive the application item G_PROJECT. Then whether the page was pulled from cache or rendered anew via a click from the sidebar link, the project ID is determined by the contents of that page.
    As I said above I tried this, with the 'Edit' branch set to:
    Set these items: G_PROJECT
    With these values: &P250_PROJECT.
    but it makes no difference. The project ID is not determined by the rendered page contents - the engine gets the value of P250_PROJECT from session state.
    I can code the 'Edit' pages such that they check permissions and if necessary redirect back to p250 (conditional before-header branch), but that's a clunky cure rather than the prevention I was hoping for.
    Please tell me if my understanding is incorrect.

  • "read by other session" wait

    Hi all,
    I have a query with very little cost, it only access one row of the table from a primary key and joins it another table again on primary key column. It doesn't even take a second to complete.
    But the problem is when there is another session that accesses data from one of the tables, I encounter "read by other session" wait event, so I wonder if there is a hint to overcome this wait, that will force query to make a disk read without waiting any other working session to put it into buffer cache. Or any other suggestions?
    Thanks

    You also say in a later post that the cost of the plan is 11 - if this is correct then your two indexes must have a blevel of about 5 to get that cost from that plan. It seems highly likely that your query doesn't always take the plan you expect and that the "10 minute" versions of this query (which should take less than 0.1 seconds on any reasonable system) is doing a large tablescan to spend so much extra time and report "read by other session". I would check v$sql for multiple child cursors and v$sql_plan (using dbms_xplan.display_cursor if you're on 10g) to check executions plans.

  • RAC 10.2.0.5 - Session waiting forever

    Hi, i feel alone
    The database has several sessions that are waiting forvever.
    Sometimes these sessions are wainting for "direct path read", or "read by other session"
    The objects on which the sessions are waiting are never the same (user table, or LOB, ...)
    The OS process associated with the database session doesn't exists anymore on the system.
    The connection is made with JDBC THIN CLIENT.
    NO error messages as the session is just waiting indefinitly
    If a start a new session and issue a simple SQL SELECT on the waited objects on both instance.
    The first instance return the resultset. The second instance just wait forever.
    After the blocked objects is rebuilt, SQL SELECT works fine from both instance.
    Killing the waiting sessions doesn't solve the probleme as next same SQL QUERY from the other instance, will be blocked too ...
    Rebuild the object solve the problem ...
    BUT THIS IS FAR NOT A GOOD SOLUTION !
    The database is Oracle 10.2.0.5 SE RAC for LInux RHEL5 x64.
    ASM is used.
    Thank you for any suggestions !

    Hi,
    thank you for your response.
    This is a STANDARD EDITION with all tables degree set to 1, and all indexes degrees set to 1 or 0.
    I kill the session selected with the following query (the ones with high last_call_et)
    select inst_id, username, last_call_et, event, row_wait_obj# from gv$session where status='ACTIVE' and state='WAITING' and username is not null;
    Sometime, just kill the session solve the problem
    Now, i got 1 session waiting forever on "read by other session" on table SYSTEM.SQLPLUS_PRODUCT_PROFILE the SQL executed is
    "analyze table infomed2.dm_ligne ....;" .
    The same problem appears on 2 differents databases on the same RAC cluster (all in 10.2.0.5)
    i guess a bug with dictionnary latch, or with gcs, or with sqlnet( session closed but not realeased), ... but cannot find any information

  • Session timeout and custom sso

    Hi,
    can anyone tell me how the session and idle timeout feature in Apex exactly works?
    I built several applications in a workspace and do a sso authorization by setting a common cookie name. In addition to that i set the values for session length and idle timeout and assumed that the session length would be synchronized over all applications. But this doesn't seem to work. For instance, i set the idle timeout to 10 minutes in all applications and now i work for 15 minutes continously in application A and after that i switch over to application B (using the same session id!), the session is already expired in B.
    Is this behavior correct? And, if yes, how can i set up a synchronization over all applications?
    Jens

    Anyone?
