Set dbid

how to set dbid

In RMAN you set the DBID with the SET DBID command.

  • Setting up a physical standby on a server with a different structure

    I am having a few issues trying to set up a physical standby database.
    The primary database has a different naming structure than the standby and they are at different sites.
    Physical is /var/hpsrp/ctrorp03/oradata/u0x/<DB_NAME>/<DB_UNIQUE_NAME> and standby is /var/hpsrp/drforp03/oradata/u0x/<DB_NAME>/<DB_UNIQUE_NAME>.
    I have set db_file_name_convert to '<PRIMARY PATH>', '<STANDBY PATH>' times the number of paths as pairs.
    I have created a blank database for standby and having taken a full backup of primary with control file and standby control file.
    Now I hit the issues:
    The DB incarnation numbers are different.
    When I try and do a normal restore e.g. set dbid, restore controlfile; mount; it fails as it is trying to find files in the primary structure and not standby structure.
    When I try renaming via set newname or auxname it can't find files to restore I guess due to the incarnation id's.
    If I set the incarnation id and try to restore backup it fails as the incarnation id's don't match.
    I have tried looking through various forums and the documentation but can't find a solution, probably can't see the wood for the trees though as there is so much.
    Has anyone done this type of setup before and can give me some advice?

    Thanks for you replies I will try and give more information on both.
    srsatya :- Version is 11.2 the controlfile I tried to restore was the one created by the backup not the standby should I be putting the standby in place then before I do the restore? If so just a replacement for the current controlfile by carefully replace at an OS level or by mimicing the controlfile to be restored from autobackup?
    CKPT:- Think I tried that but I have been going around in so many circles may have mucked something up.

  • Restore controlfile from tape backup without autobackup setting on

    I am testing a scenraio of restoring control file if we loose all control files.
    My RMAN settings for CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP is OFF. But, I have taken a backup of controlfile using 'BACKUP CURRENT CONTROL FILE' .
    When I tried to restore control file. I am receiving following error:

    My question is, How can I restore control file from tape backup without CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP setting ON.
    It sounds like, There is no way we can restore control file from tape backup if you've not set the CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP is ON.
    Please advice

    When all controlfiles are lost and a recovery catalog is NOT used, RMAN has no information , where to find the controlfile backup. It's not enough to specify the channel, such a channel could hold many different backups from many different databases. You have tell , which database and which backupset. Modify your run block:
    SET DBID <DBID of the database,for which you want to restore the controlfile>;
    RESTORE CONTROLFILE FROM <name_of_backupiece_which_contains_the_controlfile backup>';

  • Dbid in nomount state

    Hello,
    can I obtain my dbid when my database is in nomount state?
    The scenario is that I had lost all my controlfiles and can only open the db in nomount state.
    Then I start rman and connect to the target db. I can restore controlfile from autobackup, but first I have to set dbid.
    Is checking the controlfile autobackup filename the only choice to obrain dbid?
    Thx.
    A.

    Hi,
    thanks a lot to you both. Controlfile autobackup name is the one I thought of and logs from older RMAN session also seems to be very useful.
    I don't use recovery catalog, so I can't use rc_database. That's why I was troubled.
    Thanks again. It helped.

  • Backup set is over 7 days -- DB status is NOMOUNT -- RESTORE CONTROLFILE

    I'm trying to do a restore of a control file using RMAN.
    After doing a STARTUP NOMOUNT of the database, I try:
    SET DBID = [whatever]
    RESTORE CONTROLFILE FROM AUTOBACKUP;
    The error I get is:
    channel ORA_DISK_1: no AUTOBACKUP in 7 days found
    And that's true. The backup set I'm trying to restore from is over 7 days old.
    I tried
    RESTORE CONTROLFILE FROM AUTOBACKUP UNTIL TIME "TO_DATE('12/17/08 18:00:00', 'MM/DD/YY HH24:MI:SS')"
    and I get the same error.
    All the examples I've seen using UNTIL TIME seem to assume that the database status is MOUNT not NOMOUNT, which is needed if you don't have a control file in the first place.
    How do I get around this problem?

    Al,
    Set your env variable oracle_sid = whatever_sid
    then from command line
      c:> rman target /
       or
       $> rman target /
      And use one of the following to list your backups
    RMAN> LIST BACKUP;

  • After setting the db to archive log mode what to do?

    Hi All,
    We have a database which is being used as production database since one week and running in NoArchive Log mode. Now i wanted to change that to Archive Log mode because i want to take hot backup using RMAN daily/weekly. My doubt is..after changing the db to Archive Log mode, can i take backup using RMAN (i got a RMAN script to take a hot backup of db)? which will contain all the backup with control files and spfiles? or do i have to do anything before taking hotbackup.
    Thanks,
    Praveen.

    Yes you are fine. BTW, how many archive destinations did you configure.
    Usually it is more than 1 on two different Disks.
    TEST CASE:
    NOARCHIVELOG Database
    Change it ARCHIVELOG
    Take a hot backup and try to restore/recover it.
    STATUS=SUCCES
    Can someone explain this to me please:-
    Ensure DB in noarchivelog mode
    SQL> archive log list
    Database log mode No Archive Mode
    SQL> startup mount;
    SQL> alter database archivelog;
    SQL> alter database open;
    -- DID Not take a COLD BACKUP
    -- Right after switching the mode I am taking hot backup
    RMAN> backup incremental level=0 database ;
    RMAN> backup archivelog all delete all input;
    Nuke the datafiles
    RMAN> SET DBID=1299283748;
    RMAN> restore controlfile from autobackup;
    run
    set until logseq=79 ;
    restore database;
    recover database;
    sql 'alter database open resetlogs';
    Database is opened restored / recovered?
    I totally agree we should take a cold backup right after switching the mode. Can someone explain the above though.

    Sorry forgot to add some information.
    before recovery we were using recovery catalog which was on the same database.
    while doing recovery restored controlfile by
    RMAN> restore controlfile from '/oracle/oradata/envdvp/backup/controlfile/C-279496673-20080429-18';
    and then performed restore and recovery operation

  • RMAN backup set path

    I am restoring the production database to testing server. i have taken the cold backup of my catalog database and refreshed on development server so that i can have information about the production db in RMAN catalog db.
    i have copied the backup sets ( level 0 ) of my production db to development server. backup set path is not identical as production. so When i try to recover in dev server i am getting error file not found. ( not able to find the backup piece ) since it is point to production backup set path.
    how do i set or update the RMAN database about my testing server backup set path so that during the recovery rman reads from new location on the development.

    thank you.
    I am facing problem while restoring the database.
    i trying to restore from level 0 backup which we take daily basis. when i use the below command and while restoring one of the datafile referring the old backup set which is not available. i have valid backup sets taken yesterday. but rman refers the backup sets taken on day before yesterday.
    i am using the following command.
    rman << EOS
    connect catalog rman/rman@PSMTRRCT
    set dbid 4151495469;
    connect target /;

    restore controlfile;
    restore database;
    alter database mount;
    exit
    EOS
    LEVEL 0 backup which i have was taken on 9 mar. but rman refers the 8 march backup set for one particular datafile. since i dont have that backup set. restore fails.
    can you please help.

  • Get DBID

    Hi friends,
    I am new person. I saw lots of example abouy restore/revovery DB. How do I know a DBID ( for set DBID= ) during recovering DB or control file.
    Thanks
    Jim

    You can see Note 227060.1 How To Determine The DBID When Using RMAN and Note:580414.1 RMAN - How to restore the controlfile using RMAN to know where you can get dbid and under what circumstances it's needed.
    Enrique
    PS. There another not documented ways to get the dbid as stated here: http://arjudba.blogspot.com/2008/05/how-to-discover-find-dbid.html

  • Migrating with RMAN from 10g to 11g

    Hi gurus,
    I am following the following procedure to migrate database from 10g to 11g using rman
    Source side:
    RMAN>connect target
    RMAN>backup database;
    RMAN>backup archivelog all;
    RMAN>backup current controlfile;
    SQL> create pfile from spfile;
    Copied datafile, archivelog backup files and pfile and password files to target side. i.e. on 11g server side
    Target side:
    Set proper parameters for 11g
    SQL>startup nomount;
    RMAN>connect target
    RMAN>set dbid=<source database id>
    RMAN>catalog start with '<rman backup file location';
    RMAN>restore controlfile;
    RMAN>run
    set newname for datafile 1 to '<target datafiles location with file name';
    restore database;
    switch datafile all;
    finished
    upto now it's success full when i am trying to recover
    RMAN>recover database;
    it is saying
    rman 00571
    rman 00569
    rman 00571
    rman 03002
    ora - 19698
    can you please suggest the solution for this.
    thanks a lot.

    I'm not sure what you're doing is supported.
    You are taking a 10g database and restore and recover it using 11g software.
    I think you are allowed to do that with 10g software only.

    using target database control file instead of recovery catalog
    database dismounted
    Oracle instance shut down
    RMAN> startup nomount
    connected to target database (not started)
    Oracle instance started

    released channel: ORA_DISK_1Once the control file is restored, I need to crosscheck, delete expired and catalog the backups at the new server:
    RMAN> crosscheck backup;

    specification does not match any backup in the repositoryI need now to catalog the backups we transferred from Prod into the QA server's directory /restorealeph:
    RMAN> catalog start with '/restorealeph/';

    Any idea?

    Thanks Levi,
    I slightly modified your script to recatalog the backup pieces since they are note stored at the same location in PR and QA.
    No luck. The error message is different but the result is the same... it keeps failing.

  • 9i Database - Restore to a new host, validating RMAN backup

    Hi all,
    I could use your help, for any of you who remember how to do this in 9i. On one of my production databases, running 9.2.0.6.0, I have a nightly RMAN script that writes the backup to a large shared drive (this is on a Windows 2003 server). This backup uses a recovery catalog.
    I have a test server, and I want to try and restore last night's backup on this test server, without touching the recovery catalog - purely as a means to go through the recovery process, and to validate our backups (this is also for SOX compliance, as this database is for the financial system).
    I have been looking through the 9i documentation, and was hoping to have some detailed steps here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96566/rcmrecov.htm#1007514
    but I don't see a lot of information there.
    I believe that this should be a rather simple process. On the test server, I have installed the 9.2.0.6 software, and created the Oracle Service using the same name as production. The test server can also see the shared drive that houses the backup files from the production system.
    Here are the steps I am trying, please let me know what I need to change. Thanks all!!
    rman target / nocatalog
    RMAN> set DBID 3679803977
    RMAN> startup nomount

    Many thanks for the helpful replies so far, Hemant!! I had to shelve this issue for a few days, back at it today.
    I have made some progress, I am able to restore the control file now - what I am doing, is copying the autobackup controlfile from the network drive over onto the server locally (E:\oracle\ora92\database\BACKUPCONTROL.ORA), then I am able to restore the controlfile with this:
    restore controlfile from 'E:\oracle\ora92\database\BACKUPCONTROL.ORA';
    And I can see that it restores all 3 of my controlfiles.
    The next step would be to do the database restore. When I issue the "restore database;" command, I can see that it lists out all of the datafiles that it needs to restore from the backup set, but then after about a minute, I see these error messages pop up:
    RMAN-00571: ===========================================================

    ORA-27067: skgfdisp: size of buffer is invalid
    OSD-04026: Invalid parameter passed.
    When I looked up those last 2 error codes on Metalink, I see document ID 213858.1 that looks like this normally happens when the backup piece that has Read-Only permissions. I have confirmed that the backup files on the network drive are not Read-Only, I have full Read/Write privileges on them. So once again, I am stumped.
    Any thoughts? I might go ahead and log an SR for this, to try and get it resolved.
    Thanks!

  • How to restore (not duplicate) DB from RAC ASM to non ASM

    Hello everybody,
    i am trying to recover db from RAC+ASM to non ASM no RAC node. I am running Oracle 10g (10.2.0.4) on Win2003 Server. I have functional backup from my prod system.
    Here are my steps:
    *1. On prod server i make backup running this script in RMAN*
    configure channel device type 'SBT_TAPE' parms'SBT_LIBRARY=oracle.disksbt,ENV=(BACKUP_DIR=e:\backup)';
    RUN {
    backup device type SBT_TAPE database tag zal20081129;
    SQL 'alter system archive log current';
    backup device type SBT_TAPE archivelog ALL tag zal20081129;
    *2. I prepared clon instance on another server (The same Oracle version) and start it to nomount mode.*
    *3. I copied the backup from prod server to clon server to exactly the same path. (e:\backup)*
    *4. I connect to RMAN on my new node and I use the DBID parameter and I restore controlfile.*
    rman
    connect target /
    set DBID 3079749916
    startup nomount
    run {
    allocate CHANNEL CTAPE DEVICE TYPE 'SBT_TAPE' PARMS'SBT_LIBRARY=oracle.disksbt,ENV=(BACKUP_DIR=f:\backup)';
    allocate channel CDISK DEVICE TYPE DISK;
    restore controlfile from 'f:\backup\78k91lrn_1_1';
    alter database mount;
    *5.Then I check the backup, crosscheck etc.*

    Hi,
    thanks for you quick answer. But I do restore to the local file system, even if the log says:

    restoring datafile 00002 to +DATA/agost/datafile/undotbs1.273.668509387 .....
    all the datafiles are correctly restored. I think oracle uses the parameter db_create_file_dest and creates the files there.
    I tried also the script with SET NEW NAME:
    run {
    Set newname for datafile 1 to 'e:\oradata\AGOST\system.272.668509367';
    Set newname for datafile 2 to 'e:\oradata\AGOST\undotbs1.273.668509387';

    RMAN-11001: Oracle Error:

    and in alert log i have got this:
    Errors in file c:\oracle\product\10.2.0\admin\agost\udump\agost_ora_3200.trc:

    dont know what to do.
    There must be way how to recover it. I think my first try (without SET NEWNAME) is closer to the end, there is only need to "repair" the online logs.
    Any other suggestions?
    thanks
