  • Setting my classpath in XP (pro)

    how do I set my classpath in XP Pro for my java software??
    i have got j2sdk1.4.1_01 and i rekon that the path should lead to the bin directory??
    This is obviosly very basic stuff, but I just cant get it right.
    I can compile (javac filename.java) without any problems, nut when i run (java filename), its saying that it can't fine java.dll and it couldnt find the Java 2 Runtime Environment!!!
    Please help, this is driving me crazy.
    Jim

    1. Right click My Computer on the desktop, select Properties
    2. Click "Advanced" tab
    3. Click "Environment Variables" button
    4. Select "Path" in "System variables" and click "Edit" button
    5. Enter "C:\j2sdk1.4.1_01\bin;" to the beginning of Path
    6. Select "OK" etc....it's done
    Depending on what applications you have on your system, you may have some classpath conflicts, but this should fix it for you.

  • CLASSPATH environment variable - Pro/cons?

    I was told that its not a good idea to define CLASSPATH as a system environment variable, but was never told why. Is it correct that it should be avoided to define CLASSPATH as a system variable?
    Another thing when should a variable be defined as a system variable or an user variable?

Is it correct that it should be avoided to define CLASSPATH as a system variable?For one thing, it means you have no control over classpaths. Say you write two apps, and they each use a different version of the same library. If you're using the one global classpath for both of them, you're stuffed. How do you allow them both to use the correct version? Then you come to deploy one of them on someone else's machine, and, say, send them a CD with it on."Right, what jars does it use again? I dunno. It always just worked, cos I've got all my dependencies in one place, and the VM picks up the lot. Goddammit. I'll have to put all of them on his machine, too .AND set up his classpath. What? There are 500 machines to roll out to? And some of them don't even +have+ that folder? Goddammit! ". See the problem? If you explicitly dictate a classpath when starting up the JVM, it can be wherever you want - typically a lib folder within that specific app - and have exactly what you need on it. Much more flexible and easier to control
    Another thing when should a variable be defined as a system variable or an user variable?I hope you're just asking cos you're already here, and not because you think this is related to Java. Cos it isn't. System variables are available to, well, all the users of the machine, including any local accounts that services might be running under. A user variable is specific to the user it's defined for, and not visible to any others. When you use which depends very much on what the variable is for

  • Settting Classpath for XP Pro

    I have XP pro and J2sdk1.4.2_03. I have been trying to set a permanent path but could not do it so far. My paths look like that:
    PATH=C:\j2sdk1.4.2_03\bin;C:\PROGRA~1\Borland\CBUILD~1\Bin;C:\PROGRA~1\Borland\CBUILD~1\Projects\Bpl;C:\WINDOWS\system32;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adaptec Shared\System;c:\ditalib\bin;c:\orant\bin
    C:\j2sdk1.4.2_03\bin;C:\PROGRA~1\Borland\CBUILD~1\Bin;C:\PROGRA~1\Borland\CBUILD~1\Projects\Bpl
    Can one of you tell me what I am doing wrong?
    Thank you.

    How are you setting the path? Through DOS? Try adding the path through windows environment variable settings. Go to Start->Control Panel->System->Advanced->Environment Variables, then click 'path' in the User Varibles section, click edit, and then add ";{PATH TO JDK}" and click ok.
    The change should be automatic. I also had problems at first using set env in DOS, but it worked once I set the path through the above method.

  • Classpath has no effect in XP Pro Tablet Edition

    I have serious problems regarding installing ajava package(javabook.zip). My notebook runs with Windows XP Pro Tablet Edition. I changed the variable by using the control panel/system/advanced etc.. No Java-editor recognizes the CLASSPATH entries. Even when I unpack all classes in a folder. My classpath-variable is : C:\Java\j2sdk1.4.2\jre\lib\rt.jar;C:\Java\j2sdk1.4.2\lib\javabook.zip;C:\Java\Classes;D:\Java\classes;.
    I tried it by unpacking, by creating a *.jar-file, by copying in different folder and by de-/reinstalling the JDK. Even I mounted the archive directly with NetBeans. Nothing works. I started Windows after each change new to take these changes in effect without success.
    The funny thing is, with my home computer (desktop) running under WinXP Home everything works fine. All your sample programs are running great.
    May be there is a trick I do not know.

    Good question. That is the funny thing! With echo %classpath% everything seems to be o.k. But not one of my java editors will recognize this package. When I use this package on my other computer (XP Home) everything will be recognize correctly.
    The only way for me was to kill alle entries in all classes which are defining the package name. But this solves my main problem only temoprarry.
    P.S. Sorry , English is not my native language ;-).

  • Flash Pro CC classpath

    Flash pro CC canot find import of fl.video.  No problems importing flash.xxx classes. The product was working fine for two weeks and now it cant find anything that starts with fl.xxx.

    Make sure you have your FLA open that contains the FLVPlayback. When I close that FLA, Flash CC stops with the fl.* auto completion:
    That path should be:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CC\Common\Configuration\ActionScript 3.0\libs (Windows)
    It contains a flash.swc file.
    The fl.video.* is added when you add the FLVPlayback component however.
    Needless to say you do have FLVPlaybackCaptioning in your library correct? I get no errors in an external .as accessing the FLVPlaybackCaptioning class as long as I have a FLVPlayback component in my library as well.

  • No class found on Windows XP Pro

    I have this problem, my java programs work well on my PC (XP Home) and on about half of other, but it crashes on some computers. It throws NoClassDefFoundError even when the classpath is set well. It seems like it doesn't work just on XP Pro, (i know that it should have no effect, but i can't understand it). I want to know if there is any difference in java behaviour on Home vs Professional, for example in setting the classpath variable, or in some possibility to disable java on XP Pro. I know that i set the classpath in a right way and i am sure that there is java installed on the other computers. ( I write just small programs and i use .bat to run them) Is someone able to help me? Thanks, Loscarlos

    well. Not as well as you would hope. For one thing don't set environment variables for classpath. That way lies suffering.

    David,
    Can you try passing in the 1.5 VM location manually as listed below
    WorkshopInstaller.exe LAX_VM d:\bea\9server\jdk150_04\bin\java.exe
    Can you also make sure that the 1.5 JVM value entry is the first entry in the PATH environment variable.

    Hi, yeah autoexec.bat is not used anymore. XP has to set the environment variable in system properties just like Windows 2000. Is something in the classpath variable I have to set to use the jar tool?
    Currently my classpath has:
    .;c:\jdk1.3\corejava
    It's just the current directory and the corejava library from my book. Do I have to add c:\jdk1.3\bin to it? Since javac, jar.exe are located in that folder or am I wrong?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Does the Jar Tool work on Windows XP Pro?

    Hi, I have a Windows XP Pro machine and I installed jdk1.3. But I can't seem to get the jar tool to work. The directory bin has all java compiler, jar tool, javadoc, and other tools. When I go to the command prompt to try to use the jar tool, it just says "the name is not specificed as an internal or external command, operable program, or batch file. Does anyone know why I can't run the jar tool in MS-DOS?

  • Setting Path variable in Win XP Pro

    Hello,
    I have installed Java SDK 1.3.0_02 on Windows XP professional.
    I have set my path to:
    %SystemRoot%\system32; %SystemRoot%; %SystemRoot%\system32\WBEM;
    %SystemRoot%; %SystemRoot%\system32\WBEM; C:\Program Files\Common
    Files\Adaptec Shared\System; %Java_Home%\bin; %Java_Home%; %Tomcat_Home%;
    where %JAVA_HOME% refers to C:\jdk1.3.0_02.
    I get the following error upon trying to use 'javac' in the DOS command
    prompt:
    'javac' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable
    program or batch file
    According to the instructions at
    <http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/install-windows.html#Environment> I have done
    all I can. Also, according to this article I should not have to set a
    classpath variable. Should I set a classpath variable?
    Here are some conditions I cannot figure out:
    1) When I use the 'java' command with any switches (such as -version) I get
    a proper response.
    2) When I type on the command line "set path=C:\jdk1.3.0_02" and then try
    "javac" command it works. This happens only while the command window is
    opened. If it is closed and reopened I will have to do it again. This should
    not be required.
    3) When I navigate to the "C:\jdk1.3.0_02\bin" directory and try using the
    "javac" command it works fine.
    4) Everytime I use the 'autoexec' command in the C: root directory I get an
    old version of the path variable without my recent path settings.
    What do I need to do to simply open a command prompt and compile Java code?
    It seems to work fine on other installations. I want to be able to use
    'javac' from any directory without referencing in the command line the
    directory of 'javac'.
    My main question is how do I set the path variable so it permanently stays in
    Windows XP Pro? What is the simplist way to do this?
    Should it be set in the environmental variables section under 'My Computer'? Should it be set in DOS? Should it be set in 'autoexec.syd' in the C: root directory (there is not autoexec.bat)? Someone mentioned to set the
    Sincerley,
    Chris

    From the command prompt echo your classpath (echo %classpath%) and see what displays. If it's not the one from your environment variables, then something else is getting it's dirty hands in the way.
    You may want to take a look through your autoexec.bat and remove any lines that set the path variable. Leave it to your windows environment settings to do it for you.

  • Using myEclipse on Mac Pro Running Mac OS X

    Looking for a java developer that might help me.
    I'm trying to setup myEclipse on my Mac Pro, and I'm having a bear of a time getting an ANT script to run inside of myEclipse. This same script runs FINE inside myEclipse on a windows PC. Here is a slimmed down version of the ANT script with the section that's failing:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <project basedir="." default="doIt" name="estreetDev">
    <property file="build.ant.properties"/>
    <!-- JiBX binding compiler task definition -->
    <taskdef classname="org.jibx.binding.ant.CompileTask" name="bind">
    <classpath>
    <pathelement location="lib/bcel.jar"/>
    <pathelement location="lib/jibx-run.jar"/>
    <pathelement location="lib/xpp3.jar"/>
    <pathelement location="lib/jibx-bind.jar"/>
    </classpath>
    </taskdef>
    <target name="doIt">
    <!-- Run JiBX binding compiler -->
    <echo> ${basedir} </echo>
    <bind load="true" verbose="true">
    <bindingfileset includes="binding.xml" dir="config/jibx"/>
    <classpathset dir="lib/"/>
    <!-- classpathset dir="lib/jibx-run.jar" / -->
    </bind>
    </target>
    </project>
    The basedir is the project directory, "estreetDev," which contains the "lib" directory. In that lib directory are some 53+ jars, which have to be added to the build. I've added these jars in myEclipse preferences, project preferences, and in the External Tools Dialog Classpath tab; however, when the ANT script runs it keeps complaining that it can't find classes on ANY classpath. Specifically, in the taskdef above is the lib/jibx-run.jar, which contains the org.jibx.runtime.Utility.class. When I run the ANT script I get the failure indicated below. Note the "Caused by: " line that states "Class org.jibx.runtime.Utility not found in any classpath." Does anyone here know what I'm doing wrong? I've tried everything I can think of to solve this problem. The ANT script works fine when run on the command line.

    I have made sure that the 3 devices all have the same settins in iMessage.

    I have tried rebooting all three devices.
    The only way to get it to work on my iphone and iPad is to dissable it in Mavericks on my MacBook Pro.
    Is this a "feature" of the new OS?

    Hi,
    On the iOS devices remove the Apple ID.
    Set the device in to Airplane Mode (this breaks with the server)
    Start with the iPhone to add back the Apple ID - only after you see the iPhone Number is Verified.

    i am using Xp pro and Vista.

    Don't worry about it. The CLASSPATH variable is best avoided anyway. Specify classpaths for particular apps on the command-line. Teh Docs show you how

  • CLASSPATH and Packages

    Hi
    i get a
    i just reorganised my java classes in packages (first time i use packages). After building up the directory tree representind the packages and adding the package statement to the classes i compiled them and everything seems to be find.
    Then i added the path to my package to the classpath. Then i thought everything should be done and run fine.
    But it doesn't. When i try to execute a simple test application (named TestApp, kind of Hello World) that resides in my package i get the well known error: "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: TestApp". No matter if i call the the Application with "java TestApp" from it's own directory, the myfiles directory or form anywhere in my file system.
    As far as i know this useally indicates a problem with the classpath. I tried to set the classpath like "java -cp d:\myfiles TestApp" but this didn't work. Of course i also tried to set the classpath within the Windows System Env. Variable. No success.
    Does anyone has an idea what i'm doing wrong?
    My Settings are:
    OS: Windows 2000 pro
    Root Dir where Java Runtime Env is installed: "d\:j2re1.4.2_05"
    Windwos Env. Variable PATH: ".;d\:j2re1.4.2_05\bin"
    Root Dir where my package resides: "d:\myfiles\"
    Windows Env. Variable CLASSPATH: ".;d:\myfiles;d\:j2re1.4.2_05\lib\ext"
    Path to TestApplication: "d:\myfiles\com\myname\myapplication\TestApp"
    I hope some could help - i'm trying to track that problem down for about a day now and i'm getting a little bit frustrated.
    Tanks a lot for your help!
    Frank

    You must use the fully qualified class name to launch an application. If TestApp is in a package named com.myname.myapp, then the command must be "java com.myname.myapplication.TestApp"
