Setting canvas property of item during runtime

Can anybody tell me how to set the canvas property of item in the block at runtime if the canvas property is set to null during runtime.
Pls forward the answer.

Alternatively , you can create mirror item and place them on different canvases, further you can hide/show them.

In Forms you can set items invisible. You can do it by Set_Item_Property('your_item',VISIBLE,PROPERTY_FALSE).You can also change position of item. All about what you can do with item you can read in the Forms on-line help "Set_Item_Property built-in".

The primary reason is because Oracle does not provide a method to do this with a standard Oracle Forms built-in. You can a third-party java bean (such as Francois Degrelle's Oracle Forms Look and Feel project) to accomplish many UI enhancements that are not natively available in Oracle Forms.

Poplist highling last item during runtime

I have a dynamic poplist and during runtime the last item is selected. How can I get the 1st item of the list to highlight?

Since the poplist might have the possiblity of changing I don't really know what the initial value should be. Is there a way to make generic? For example: 1 runtime the first item may be apple but then the next time it runs it might be banana.

Set visibility property for items depending on other items

I want to set the visibility setting for an item that I have, the steps should be as the following,
for example
if I have an item that asked,
do you have children ?
if the answer is Yes,
the next item should be visible which let's say, number of them
if no,
the next item should be not visible
I tried to set a trigger for the item I am controlling its visibility which is
pre-text-item and wrote
if 'CHEQUE_TABLE.CHEQUE_RECIEVED'='yes'
then
set_item_property(:SYSTEM.CURRENT_ITEM,visible,property_true) ;
else
set_item_property(:SYSTEM.CURRENT_ITEM,visible,property_false) ;

but it doesn't seem to be right, ,,,

I can see two potential problems. The first:
if 'CHEQUE_TABLE.CHEQUE_RECIEVED'='yes'
Does CHEQUE_TABLE.CHEQUE_RECEIVED refer to a Data Block and Item? If yes, then you are trying to tell Forms to look at the value of the string 'CHEQUE_TABLE.CHEQUE_RECEIVED' when you should be refering to the value of the Block.Item through direct reference, eg:
IF :CHEQUE_TABLE.CHEQUE_RECEIVED = 'yes'
How is the value of CHEQUE_RECIEVED set? Does the user select the YES value from a List of Value (LOV) or from a Poplist or do they enter the value by typing it in? If your code is looking at the string 'yes' and comparing it to the value of the Block Item which is in upper or mixed case, then 'yes' = 'Yes' or 'yes' = 'YES' will evaluate to FALSE instead of TRUE.
It is always a good idea to use a Poplist or a List of Values when you are expecting specific values to be entered by the user; this enables you to force the value to be entered the same by everyone. If the user CAN type the value in, then at least set the Case Restriction property to UPPER or LOWER so regardless of how the user enteres the value, it will be stored in the corrected case.

Assume that I have 2 formula fields
1. format_count
2. format_display
my formula is like below:

when checking for errors its throwing error stating "stamement is expected"

Like this:

Navigation: US Super HRMS Manager --> People --> Enter and Maintain.
On the Find Person window --> Query a Person
On the People Window, there is an Assignment Button. When clicked, it will open new window "Assignment".
At this point 'WHEN-NEW-ITEM-INSTANCE' is fired for the item 'ASSGT. ORGANIZATION_NAME'.
There is DFF on this window and when DFF is closed by pressing OK button, 'WHEN-NEW-ITEM-INSTANCE' is fired again for the item 'ASSGT. ORGANIZATION_NAME'.
Hence my question is how to know if the previous item is DFF or not.

Setting application level item during authentication

We’re having an issue with an application level item that we set during our custom authentication function to store a role list for authorization. The issue is that the application level item, which should be set using htmldb_util.set_session_state(‘ITEM_NAME’, p_item_value), is not being set.
On further investigation we realised that this issue was only affecting developers, not users of the application. This seems to be because the home page link, set in Shared Components > Edit Security Attributes, is set to “f?p=&APP_ID.:1:&SESSION.”, which means that the developers session was being passed to the application when the “Run Application” button was pressed. What then happens is that following the successful execution of the authentication function, a new session id is generated and visible on the URL and the Application Level Items are not set correctly.
Examples:
I’m developing an application on Apex that has the home page link set to “f?p=&APP_ID.:1:&SESSION.”, here’s the first part of my URL at the Application home page:
http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=4000:1:1065658352862710::
I hit “Run Application” and get to this URL (note the session id is the same)
http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=16033:1:1065658352862710:::::
I log in using any old username and password (the auth scheme on this demo app always returns true) and I get to this URL (note the session id is different):

My application level item is not set and I start to cry. When I recover from my tearful episode I try to log in again, I hit logout and get taken to this URL:

I log in again (with the same username or different, it doesn’t matter) and low and behold, my application level item is set ok. This is the URL I can see (note another new session id):

In despair, I close my browser window and go to my other application, this one has got the home page link set to “f?p=&APP_ID.:1” (no session id passed).
I log back into Apex as a developer and go to the application home page at this URL:

I hit “Run Application” and get to this URL (note the session id is missing):
http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=19114:1::::::
I log in using any old username and password (same deal as before) and I get to this URL (new session id):

Amazingly, this time the application level items are set first time.
What I’d like to know (there is a purpose to this) is:
- Why is a different session allocated to the application after login, when a “developer’s” session id is passed to the application?
- If I remove the session id from the home page url what is the impact? I can’t think of anywhere within the application that this is used (other than between page 101 and the home page), but our thoughts are that this could mean that users end up generating more sessions on the server.
- Is there any other way around this, perhaps using a different method of setting the application level item? The authentication procedure which sets the item reads as follows and mimics our authentication procedure (which you can assume does a little bit more than just returning true):

Many thanks for the response.
We've found a way around this now, by changing the developer's usernames to the same as their NT/ Active Directory signon, which fools APEX into maintaining the session id from their builder session even though when logging into the application they get authenticated by LDAP.
Using a post authentication process would be ok but I can't see any way of passing a variable retrieved in the authentication process under the first session to the post authentication process so that it can be set in the second session. We'd either therefore have to insert the data into a table and read it back or add an extra LDAP call to retrieve the user role/ group list during the post authentication process.

Sorry, but there is no way to do this.
If you need to switch the table you're selecting from, you have to do this
inside your stored procedure.

How do I put strings, which I get during runtime, in a Ring-item? And how to open a Frontpanel of a SubVI by pushing a Button in the MainVI during runtime?

I'm very new to LabVIEW and every day I learn such a lot about LabVIEW. I did not find any example according to my problem, but I don't know how to do the following :
In the MainVI I read different strings from file in an array (In the example below I defined them as constants. The example only shows how the frontpanels should look like).
During a loop I calculate different values, which will be written in an array, too, and in every loop the array of values will be overwritten with the new calculated values. (string[i] belongs to value[i])
Now, by pushing the button 'sub' during runtime, I want to op
en the Frontpanel of a SubVI, on which you see a Ring and a numeric Indicator. Now, I want to show the strings I read in the MainVI as items in the Ring-menu. If I choose one of the items (strings) in the Ring-menu during runtime, I want to show the accordant value, which was calculated in the MainVI, in the numeric Indicator, and in every loop the new calculated value should be shown in this Indicator automatically.
So I have two questions:
1. How do I put the strings into the Ring-menu during runtime?
2. How to open a SubVI-Frontpanel during runtime, and how to pass the calculated values to it?

1/ Pass the string array to the sub-vi, then use a property node to replace the ring node strings
2a/ From the subvi front panel window, rightclick on the icon, and select "Show connector". Define the connections
2b/Set the sub vi properties (right click on the vi icon, select "VI properties... >> Window appearance..." go to "customize...", and checkmark the "Show front panel when called" item).
3/ your main vi should run 2 separate loops in order to avoid that reading the data stops the aquisition process (if any !..), or the reverse situation.
You should read the LV manual to find out how to create a sub-vi : there are a number a basic things to learn and to memorize...

an other solution is change the block property QUERY_DATA_SOURCE_TYPE from "Table" to "Sub-query" , than change at run time the property QUERY_DATA_SOURCE_NAME.
First create block and add items
The QUERY_DATA_SOURCE_NAME will be for ex. "Select 'A' as col1, 'B' AS col2, 'C' as col3 from dual"
Set into items the column name property to col1 , col2 ...
At run time change the query to "Select 'Z' as col1, 'X' as col2 , 'Y' as col3 from dual"
in this way you can change the source of column value.
Caution because if you change value type from varchar2 to date you must cast date into varchar2.
May be that this way is valid only for view data not for insert-update, i don't remember.

you create the columns of table as inputfield.you bind the readonly property of
the inputfield to two context variables
say one for all the columnfields you to want always have as readonly and let this contextattribute of type boolean and let this be attr1
and another for all the columnfields you donot want to be readonly and let this contextattribute of type boolean and let this be attr2
initially set the context attributes attr1 and attr2 as true so the entire table is readonly.
based on the condition you want to check change the attr2 to be false.
if(your condition)
wdcontext.currentcontextelement.setattr2(false);
