hello..
i have downloaded the jfreechart1.0.4 for adding chart in my java application...though i have gone through the installation guide...but i havent figured it out how to make the packages available to my java application....
i am very new to java ....so pls suggest me any way to make those packages available to my java which is in my j2sdk\bin folder...and truly i dont have any idea where to set the lib path and class path....so pls post any suggestion or any url that will help me...

You should not place files in the bin directory of your JDK/JRE. Just place the jar-files somewhere close to your application, e.g. in a lib folder in your project folder. Then set the classpath to point to those jars when you execute your application.
E.g.
java -classpath ./classes/;./lib/somejar.jar;./lib/anotherjar.jar MainClassKaj

Setting Classpath and Path on Windows ME

Hi..How do I set up the classpath and path on windows ME. Do I use DOS or run the autoexec.bat from windows directly. I have jdk1.3.1 abd my classpath and path are:
set classpath="C:\jdk1.3.1\bin"
set PATH=C:\windows\xxxx\;C:\jdk1.3.1\bin
I sometimes can't compile my programs from other directories other than jdk1.3.1\bin. Why? Is there a way I can compile my program just from the C:\ directory like:
C:\javac myprogram.java
C:\java myprogram

If you put . in the beginning of your classpath, java always searches the folder you are currently in.
Now to set the classpath try clicking from the startmenu:
settings/control panel/system. Then click advanced tab and then the Enviroment variables. I'm on win2000 but I think it should be the same on ME.
Make sure it starts with .;C:\jdk1.3.1\bin;....
I think installing jdk puts in the essentials, but if you have certain folders you store your classes in you can stick those in there as well.

1)I am using the kawa IDE and i dont know how to create and use packages.
2)Creating classpath to compile and run java programs from the Dos prompt.

I'm not sure how to use KAWA.
When it comes to classpaths, though, I would recommend not setting it as an environment variable - this tends to cause confusion if you work on more than one project at a time on your machine. Either set it locally or specify it directly on the command line.
Often it's a good idea to write a batch file for compiling and executing your code:
setlocal
set PATH=c:\j2sdk-1.3
set CLASSPATH=c:\jars\Servlet.jar
javac MyClass.java

Setting CLASSPATH and PATH properly how?

I have set PATH=c:\jdk_install_directory\bin which works fine. However, for example when I create an app or small program for example, simply to print out a line on the screen, it works when I compile in NetBeans. However, if I copy the java file to another directory, my C: root for example, I can compile it, but when I run the class file it gives me errors saying it can't find certain classes. So, I figure its something with the classpath variable that I have to fix. How can I do this properly for both J2SE and J2EE using default install directories for each.

Your PATH is exactly what it should be.
The CLASSPATH answer depends on where you're compiling and running.
If you're doing things on the command line, I think the right answer is to use the -classpath option on javac.exe and java.exe.
If you're using NetBeans or another IDE, the right answer is to add JARs and paths according to the idiom demanded by the IDE. Each one is different, and all the ones I know of ignore the system CLASSPATH environment variable. I don't have one set on my machine.

Problem in setting CLASSPATH and PATH

I am a newbie in java. I downloaded and run the "j2eesdk-1_4_01-windows.exe" from Internet. By default, it creates a new user variable, which is "PATH = C:\Sun\AppServer\bin". My problem is when I try to compile a java, I get an error message, which is
'javac' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
I create a new user variable which is "CLASSPATH = .;C:\Sun\AppServer\jdk\bin"
and add new variable into my system variable, which is
"PATH = %SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:\Sun\AppServer\jdk\lib"
However, it doesn't work and give the same error message. Any idea about the solution?

Your PATH variable needs to include the path to the J2SE SDK bin directory. It looks like you added it to your CLASSPATH instead

How to set java.library.path form code

I'm new to JNI. I see there are several ways to set JVM to look for libraries dll, so, etc.

well i wrote the script and everything is fine! i can run the blackbox example on the commapi.
But i am writing another program using netbeans to send some data to a PIC microcontroller using the serial port (that is why i installed the commapi), and when i'm trying to build it or run it on netbeans throws this error:

No ocijdbc8 in java.library.path (with Netscape under Tomcat)

my problem is the following: I must use the OCI-Driver of the Oracle-Client 8.1.7 because I use special PL/SQL-functions.
I get the error message:

when I try to start my servlet within netscape. Before this I'm starting the tomcat servlet engine and make the following path known to tomcat:

libocijdbc9.so exists in the LD_LIBRARY_PATH. Tried
linking/copying classes12.zip from $TOMCAT_HOME/common/lib to $TOMCAT_HOME/webapps/APP_NAME/WEB-INF/lib causes the error:
java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /usr/apps/oracle/product/9.2.0/lib/libocijdbc9.so: ld.so.1: /usr/j2se/bin/java: fatal: /usr/apps/oracle/product/9.2.0/lib/libocijdbc9.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
when the CATALINA_OPTS has -d32 and
-Djava.library.path=$ORACLE_HOME/lib(tried giving them as JAVA_OPTS in catalina.sh as well)

I'm not sure if this will help, but check to make sure your LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable is set (before starting Tomcat). I think this tells the Oracle classes where to find the .so files.

How to add path to "java.library.path" property?

I use this command to set the "java.library.path" property:
java -Djava.library.path=./libs HelloWorldBut it will overwrite the default value. How can I add the path "./libs" to the default value of "java.library.path"?

-Djava.library.path=%PATH%;./libs The command search path is the only default I know. By the way, are you certain that the present working directory will always be the parent of "libs"?

Shared library path

I am trying to start the weblogic server 5.1 on my linux machine.
After I execute the startWebLogic.sh file, the following error appears
-bash: Dont know how to set the shared library path for Linux
bash: /usr/java/bin/java: No such file or directory
How do I fix this ?

hi.
find out what 'uname -s' returns on your system. In earlier WLS5.1
scripts the script looked for "LINUX" but uname -s (as called in the
script) returns "Linux" (note the case difference). I modified my script
from:
LINUX)
to
Linux|LINUX
I also see that you need to modify your JAVA_HOME variable at the top of
the script to the correct location of your JDK installation.

Problems in Classpath and Path 's variables setting in Windows XP

Here is my drive structure in my PC:
1. hard drive (primary slave, Partition: C and E where E boot Windows XP
2. Hard drive 2 (Primary Master), Drive letter: D
Although my default boot directory is E (for strange reason, i like to keep
that way for now), I installed other programs in C and D drive dues drive
space factors.
So My java sdk1.4.2_02 has been installed in C:\Java_home directory, the

I must confess that I am totally unable to understand what your PATH is set to. The error that you see,
<'javac' is not recognized as an internal or external command,operable program or batch file.>
is due to a missing or incorrectly set PATH. It is used by Windows to find executable file (like javac.exe) that you have added to the computer. Item #5 on this page gives you instructions on how to set it: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/install-windows.html
As for the setting of the CLASSPATH, you seem to have a number of different versions of java (1.4.2_02, 1.4.2_01, 1.4.2_2, and 1.1.8) and I doubt that these are all valid. You are also using an unusual syntax C:\java_home\jdk1.4.2_2\bin\javadoc Fruit.java and I wonder if that is really C:\java_home\jdk1.4.2_2\bin\javadoc\Fruit.java? I think the best action is to point you to Sun's instructions and information about setting and using the CLASSPATH.
The CLASSPATH is a set of pointers that is used by Java to find the files that YOU (not Java) create and want compiled and/or run.

Library paths and environment variables

I am using 10g AS 9.0.4 on a Unix system.
I am trying to convert an old JSP web application to work with 10g. It is not an EAR/WAR file so I am manually trying to set it up under the "default-web-app" folder. It uses a number of java class files which currently reside in $J2EE_HOME/default-web-app/WEB-INF/classes/mystuff.
These class files require access to a number of libraries. I foolishly believed that they would be accessible if I were to place them in the $J2EE_HOME/default-web-app/WEB-INF/lib folder, but that did not work.
I read that OC4J uses a "catch all" lib directory at $J2EE_HOME/applib. I copied the library files there and they still did not work.
Frustrated, I tried to print out the environment variables for the server - only to find that this function is not supported.
I managed to print out the library path by creating a Java class files which returns the following as a string:
System.getProperty("java.library.path");
This (when called from a JSP) prints a number of different library paths, none of which match those found listed in the $J2EE_HOME/config/application.xml file. I placed the library files in one of the paths listed by the "java.library.path" and it worked!
3 questions:
1. How do you print the server's environment variables using a JSP? This strikes me as a very useful function for sorting out library and path issues. Do a search on Google for "print environment variables OC4J" or something similar and there are no useful pages suggesting how this can be done.
2. Why are the default library paths different on the server than to those specified in application.xml?
3. How do I change the LD_LIBRARY_PATH (or any environment variable for that matter)? I have tried adding the following line to $ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Jserv/etc/jserv.properties without success:
wrapper.env=LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/my/custom/library/path
Any help you can offer would be most appreciated.

The main hurdle is that the libraries are indeed
native (*.so) libraries. I hadn't considered that
until you pointed it out in your message. Can I
assume, then, that $J2EE_HOME/applib and
$J2EE_HOME/default-web-app/WEB-INF/lib are only
designed to handle Java's .JAR librares? That would
explain why placing the native libraries in there
didn't work, but is there a way of getting such
native libraries recognised and bundled up in a
WAR/EAR file?
Yep, that's it.
Our proprietary applib and the servlet specs web-inf/lib are only dealing with Java archives.
The J2EE specs don't cover how to deal with native libs like this.
Now I've NEVER EVER tried it, but it's worth a shot of at least trying -- for simplified packaging purposes, what you may be able to do is to distribute the .so's within the web-inf/lib -- and then just set that directory (where's its realized on the server after the app is deployed) to be referenced witihn the LD_LIBRARY_PATH. I'd expect our deployment manager will just ignore files it doesn't know about, so arguably you should be able to at least distribute them with the standard archive.
You'll need to specifically set the LD_LIBRARY_PATH as a separate task outside of the deployment operation though.

This is where things get a bit weird, and is partly
my fault during the installation of 10g AS.
We already had an existing installation of Oracle 10g
Database (10.1.0) at $ORACLE_HOME under the user
"oracle". I logged in as the user "oracle" to install
the Application Server into a different location (In
this case, "$ORACLE_HOME/../ias10g_9.0.4" - let's
call this $IAS_HOME). So there is no separate user
account for Oracle Database and Application Server
(and hence no separate $LD_LIBRARY_PATH).
If I log into UNIX as the user "oracle" and echo the
LD_LIBRARY_PATH, I get the following directories:
$ORACLE_HOME/lib
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin
/usr/dt/lib
/usr/lib
I use this user to do "opmnctl stopall" and "opmnctl
startall". If I then print out the library path from
a JSP using
"System.getProperty("java.library.path");", I get the
following paths:
$IAS_HOME/jdk/jre/lib/sparc/server
$IAS_HOME/jdk/jre/lib/sparc
$IAS_HOME/jdk/jre/../lib/sparc
$IAS_HOME/opmn/lib
$IAS_HOME/lib
$IAS_HOME/usr/lib
Which is totally different to those listed by
$LD_LIBRARY_PATH at the command line, which means
they must be coming from somewhere else.
It gets worse - my application is trying to call a
native library that is only present in the
$ORACLE_HOME/lib32 directory (libclntsh.so.10.1), so
unless I can include this path in the
"java.library.path" on the Applicaiton Server, then
my program will not work.
So, how do I change the "java.library.path" when the
values aren't coming from $LD_LIBRARY_PATH in the
first place?
The utility $IAS_HOME/opmn/bin/opmnctl is actually a shell script.
It has this section which sets the LD_LIBRARY_PATH:
if [ -z "$LD_LIBRARY_PATH" ]
then
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/opmn/lib:$ORACLE_HOME/lib ; export LD_LIBRARY_PATH
else LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/opmn/lib:$ORACLE_HOME/lib:${LD_LIBRARY_PATH} ; export LD_LIBRARY_PATH
fi
So if you have an existing LD_LIBRARY_PATH env var set, it should just be putting its paths onto the front of it.
What you could try as a quick test is to edit the opmnctl script (after taking a backup of course) and either appending the path you need to it, or just add some debug statements to output the LD_LIBRARY_PATH value it ends up setting so you can try and work out what's causing it.
I expect these other entries:
$IAS_HOME/jdk/jre/lib/sparc/server
$IAS_HOME/jdk/jre/lib/sparc
$IAS_HOME/jdk/jre/../lib/sparc
are coming from the JRE when it is launched, in probably a similar manner to our opmn entries.

That's CLASSPATH, not PATH.
Without seeing your exact directory structure and the exact command you're runing, nobody can give you specific advice. Here are some explanations of how it works, though.

Unfortunately I don't have the
"org.eclipse.swt.win32.win32.x86_3.1.2.jar" file. On my computer
the folder is not set up the same way (C:\Program Files\Adobe\Flex
Builder 2\plugins) instead it is set up as (C:\Program
Files\Adobe\Flex Builder 2\metadata\plugins) but I've looked in
everything and that file just isn't in there. I've re downloaded it
twice. Still not there. Is there anything else i can do.
