Setting file permissions for 'wheel' group files

I have a bunch of files I copied from my PC when I made the transition to my Mac. I'm having problems moving or backing up many of the files apparently because the Mac has set the group for these files to 'wheel' and I'm not sure how to change them back. My efforts to chown or chgrp the files always result in "Operation not permitted" error messages.
I have been able to select a file at a time in the finder and use the get-info option to change the permissions, but I need to do this for thousands of files and it takes too long manually.

  • How to set file permissions for SFTP uploaded file?

    Hello,
is it possible to set file permissions with the SDK for files uploaded via SFTP transfer? I use the default sample plugin ftp_upload.lrdevplugin to transfer the files, but would like to tweak it to set the uploaded file(s) to permission 644 (rw-,r--,r--) on Linux server. Currently the server sets new file(s) by default to 600 (rw-,---,---).
I am looking for an option to do the "chmod" directly from Lightroom without doing any modificatios in general to default umask, etc. settings on the server. No real UI is needed for this. Just hardcoded setting for 644 in the .lua.
So far I've been unsuccesful in finding the way. Googled, read this forum, looked at the API. Maybe I just missed it, or does this functionality exist?
    All advice is appreciated!
    Cheers,
    Timo

Niel's suggestion is good. You might also try posting your question in the Tiger Server forums. I'm sure Tiger Server has several ways of dealing with this.

  • [Solved] Problem with file permissions for a group

I'm working on a simple Apache HTTP server just to get a small education in proper unix work.
To save myself sudoing everything (and generally because it seems the proper way to use unix), I'm trying to give my user control over the /srv directory. So I ran:
    - `sudo groupadd srvadmin` to create a group called srvadmin
    - `sudo chown -R :srvadmin /srv` to change the group-owner of /srv to srvadmin (and all files inside it)
    - `sudo chmod -vR g+w /srv` to give /srv and all its files group write permission
    - `sudo gpasswd -a <me> srvadmin` to add my user to the srvadmin group
But I still can't create or edit files in /srv
    "ls -l / | grep srv" gives:
    drwxrwxr-x 4 root srvadmin 4096 Dec 19 17:44 srv
all the files and directories inside /srv also have group write permissions and are owned by user "root" and group "srvadmin"
"cat /etc/group | grep srv" gives:
    srvadmin:x:1000:<me>
However, possibly herein lies a clue:
    "id" gives:
    uid=1000(<me>) gid=100(users) groups=100(users),7(lp),10(wheel),50(games),91(video),92(audio),93(optical),95(storage),96(scanner),98(power)
That is, "id" doesn't tell me I'm in the srvadmin group.
It seems like there's an important concept about groups and permissions that I'm not getting, but reading several man and wiki pages hasn't enlightened me. Could anyone suggest what I'm missing?
    Thanks.

No, our job is to tell you to do it yourself: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fo … ow_to_Post (second to last bullet)
Ok, this is pretty embarrassing given the parallels with the topic of this thread, but I coudn't edit the title (which is the reason for my earlier remark; I assumed I didn't have permission)!
The text box was un-editable (not "disabled", I just couldn't edit the text in it). I managed to change it in the end by deleting all the text and typing a new title. I think it may have been just because the title was at the exact character limit.

  • Unable to set site permissions for AD group

    Hello,
I have upgraded TFS from 2012 to 2013 Update 2 and using SharePoint SP1.
The TFS server is installed in Domain A which has Trust to Domain B (domain B doesnt have trust to domain A). User account that the TFS runs under is from Domain B, also application pool in IIS runs under account from Domain B.
Problem is that i cannot add domain groups from Domain A to the site permissions, i can add users but not the groups.
The error i get when adding domain group from Domain A: "The user does not exist or is not unique"
Does anybody have that or had this kind of problem?

It is the Application Pool account making the query to retrieve the groups, so you would need to establish a trust from Domain B -> A.

  • Permissions for website directories/files & Share Points for managing files

    Hello.
I'm wondering if anyone could lend some advice in how to best set up permissions, both POSIX and ACLs, for the following setup?
#1 - Permissions for directories and files for hosting a website (via OS X 10.5 "Web" GUI). Basically, I'm curious as to what people suggest for the basic files for the directory (and sub-directories and files) that go into the backend (html, images, etc.) of a website? I'm going to be being files over from another machine, so I may need to propagate these permissions once they've been moved over?
#2 - Permissions (ACL) for allowing users to access these directories and files for editing, etc. via client Macs on our LAN (this server is going to be a development web server for initial building/testing).
Any advice would be much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Kristin.

    Hi Kristin,
The "other" or "everyone" group should not have "write" permissions to any files under your website document root folder. The Apache web server runs as user "www" ... "www" is usually in the "everyone" group, thus allowing read-only access to the website.
You can set up the owner of your files to an admin account. Perhaps set up a group with write permissions to the file shares where your website files are.
You must first analyze who should have access to what, base your groups on that ...

  • Aperture 3 default file permissions for referenced images

    Hi,
This might be a bit more an OS X question than an Aperture question, but perhaps asking this here might help other people with similar case.
Is there a way to change the default file permissions Aperture 3 sets for image files imported from a digital camera?
My wife and I both import photos from our camera to a directory hierarchy under /Users/Shared/Photos/, and we both have our own Aperture libraries which reference the masters from that location.
However, when one of us imports photos from the camera, the permissions for the image files are set as 600 and the permissions need to be changed into 660 (for example) or otherwise the images are not readable for the other. (In the shell umask shows 0022 by default, but as I start the Aperture from the dock, changing the umask in the shell doesn't help)

  • How to set PDF version for the output file in ES4

I am using LiveCycle ES4 for converting word docs to PDF. In our client we invoke createPDF method of GeneratePdfServiceClient class. We are using a custom PDF setting in LiveCycle in which we have defined configuration as per the business requirement.
We need the PDF version of the document to be set to 1.4.  For this, we are setting the value for compatibility (under File Option) to Acrobat 5 (PDF 1.4) in custom PDF setting template in LiveCycle adminui and in Acrobat preferences. Both these setting are not working and the resulting document has PDF version set to PDF1.5. Can you tell me how the version of resulting document be set to 1.4??

    Hi Neelam,
I tried it and did the personalization as the help documentation said.
But I don't know why it doesn't work:(
    I followed these steps:
    1. open workbook and select a value for the variable used in query
2.click personalized variable and new window pop up then I select the value I chose and added to the selection.
    3.click ok and quit
    4.save workbook
but next time I open this workbook, the variable selection window still pop up.

  • [SOLVED] setting up permissions for mounted usb devices

    Hi all,
I've been having the following problem when mounting my external hd: in order to mount the external hd I created a folder /mnt/usbstick/ giving permissions to a non-root user to read the files/directories in this folder (using chmod); however, after I mount the external hd, the set of permissions for /mnt/usbstick/ change so that a non-root user cannot  read the mounted files in /mnt/usbstick. This is a problem for me because, when I copy a file from the external hd to the non-root home folder, the copied file can only be read by the root user.
Do you know how I can solve this problem? Should I write a udev rule and place it at /etc/udev/rules.d/? Or should I simply add the non-root user to a specific group from /etc/group? Any ideas?
    Thanks!

You could try adding an entry for your usb device in /etc/fstab and specify the option user to let non-superusers mount it.
Here's an example of an entry for my external HD. I'm sure there are probably other (and better) ways to do this but it works for me.
    UUID=4376-0BFB /media/FIRELITE vfat rw,user,noauto,async 0 0

  • Set windows permissions for folder

My labview app is being installed to the prog files dir for the app by an installer created by the LV Dev System.  i encounter a problem when trying to store a config file for the app to the directory during user customization of settings after app installation because the file I am trying to update is read only due to win 7 defaults.  I try to set the permissions for the folder programmatically, but it does not change the folder to a NOT read only one.  What is the trick here?  Do I need to put my config files in another directory somewhere or is ther a way to change the folder settings so I can create temp files in that folder?

Creating temporary config files in Program Files is not very good practice. I would do it in the public user folder.
How are you setting the parameters?
    Did you use the following?

You can use permissions to change only write permissions for users (bit 7); the operating system ignores all other changes to the bits.

  • JAAS - How to set up permissions for a specific code?

I would like to set up permissions for specific code in JAAS policy files.
In other words, let's say I have the followiong entry:
    permission java.util.PropertyPermission "java.home", "read";
Then, when I do Subject.doAsPrivileged(..., MyAction), if this permission is absent, I will not be able to access the "java.home" property in my MyAction.
If I, let's say, set up a file permission, I will not be able to read certain files if the permission is absent.
I want something simpler. I want to be able to specify that the whole class MyAction cannot be executed if the permission is absent - I do not want the code to even go there. Basically, if the necessary entry in the Policy file is not present, I do not want the calling code to have access to class com.mypackage.MyAction.
This must be really straight-forward, what am I missing?

    Thank you for your input.
My case is a little bit more complex.
There is a request and approval process attached to the provision to this target system.
The approval process has a first level of approval (including 1 to many approval steps) and the user gets the basic access to this target system. The user can then access the target system but is limited to what he/she can do.
Then the approval goes to a second level of approval (including many approval steps) and if approved the user gets the elevated access to this target system.
To accomplish this, the previous implementer created 2 resources for the same target. After the first level of approval, he provisioned resource A to the user. After the second level of approval, he provisioned resource B to the user, revoked resource B, and updated resource A.
This is very confusing because we are dealing with 2 resources for the same target.
I am looking for way to take advantage of the GTC to provision and reconcile with a system that takes a flat file and can write a flat file. But I also need to make it work with this approval nightmare.
Do you have any ideas on how to make this better and simpler?
    Thanks

  • Problem in Creating Source Files (Templates) for Original Application Files

    Dear Friends,
I am trying to ccreate "Source Files (Templates) for Original Application Files" . I checked the link
    http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/PLM/Templates-Document+Management
I created a new DOc. type TMP with no statuses, checked in KPO, assigned no. ranges.
Created  DIR & assigned the template file, checked into storage category. DIR no. 10000000390 created.
In Workstation application "DOX" in define templates for originals : doc. type: ZGA, application: DOX; language- EN; no - 01; In source doc- entered doc. type- TMP, doc. no.- 10000000390, part & version
Assigned for required source file copy" ZGA doc. type. -- Default Appl. as "DOX" workstation application.
Now created a DIR with ZGA doc. type, when clicking on originals , DOX prompted and clicking on "create with template" . TMP doc. 10000000390 template open in a new window. I edited & saved. close the MS word window. When comes to DIR, it prompted, Original was changed Do you want to save the original?.
    clicked on yes.
Saved the ZGA DIR. When I saw the new ZGA DIR created it didn't capture. Where I went wrong ?
    Regards,
    Sai Krishna

    Dear Ravindra,
By going this below link, it seems we can use template for creating ne wdocument & attach the same.
    http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/PLM/Templates-Document+Management
Following messages if you read, it may be clear.
By having templates in place we can utilize the pre-defined documents instead creating right from scratch.
Entries can be done in the Template and save the document.
Templates are used for standardization and uniformity. By using templates time consumption for creation of documents will reduce as most of the details are maintained in the master template and the same can be utilize by using the template when creating documents.
If in DMS editing functionality is not there what is the use of templates- documentation?

    Hi all,
I am having a physical file which is getting generated dynamically. It is having the date and time stamp in its name which is added at runtime.
Now I need to assign a logical file name for the physical file path through the program.
Is there any FM or any other method to assign the same.

I think it is not possible. becuase the date & time added at runtime. so if you check the table  PATH you can find filename and their definitions

Using Acrobat 9, Setting permissions is very confusing!
How do we set the permissions for document so that:

    -- Doument Assembly: Not Allowed
    -- Content Copying: Not Allowed

    -- Page Extraction: Not Allowed
    -- Commenting: Allowed
-- Filling of Form Fields: Allowed
    -- Signing: Not Allowed
-- Dreating of Template Pages: Not Allowed

Not possible. If you allow filling in forms you must allow signing. BTW, while it is nice to be able to set permissions anything that depends upon passwords that you set is easily overcome by third party utilities. Don't do anything that really depends upon these permissions. If you want to set permissions using the Document Properties Dialog box (control D), then click on the Security button. In the Security Method Dialog box, select password security and fill it out as you need.
