Setting up the fax modem on a Mac Mini

I would like to be able to fax from my Mac Mini. I have an internal fax modem installed, but when I press the Set Up Fax Modem... button in the Print & Fax section of the System Preferences, the internal fax modem is not listed in the Fax List window.
Anyone know why this might be?

the internal fax modem is not listed in the Fax List window.

You have not used it yet. Do a File >> Print >> PDF >> Fax PDF... >> Fax
That should kick up a fax machine icon bouncing on your Dock, and you should note that an internal modem should be listed now under Show Fax List.

Do you have a fax machine or fax modem? If not, then you cannot fax over telephone lines, but you can subscribe to one of many eFax services.

  • How can I deactivate the FAX modem menu which appears when I try to print a web page?

I have a PC that is not connected to a telephone and I have never selected the FAX icon. Two weeks ago I was suddenly unable to print web pages because a menu concerning setting up a FAX modem appears when I push the Print command. On the Printers and Devices page the FAX icon is not selected. How can I deactivate the FAX menu?

You can use this extension to modify the menu.

You can also achieve this with code in the userChrome.css file below the default @namespace line.

  • Mistake Made During Reinstallation of Tiger; I Omitted the FAX/Modem Driver

I made a mistake while reinstalling Tiger: I omitted the FAX/Modem Driver, apparently, because I told the installer not to install ANY printer drivers.
    1. This was OK for my Epson printer, since I had the special disk containing its driver, and I just installed that instead.
    2. The problem is that now whenever I try to "ADD" the FAX machine as an additional printer, the operating system reports back that it can't because it doesn't have any printers to choose from.
    3. I have an exact copy of the operating system as it was before I reinstalled it. This exists on a second hard disk. This is working perfectly and includes the FAX/modem as an available printer. I can boot from this external hard disk since it is attached through the firewire interface.
QUESTION: Can anyone please tell me where to go on the COPY to find the FAX/modem driver so that I can copy it to the new reinstallation so that the system will be able to "FIND" the FAX/modem as a printer available for installation?
    Many thanks,
    Jim Chumbley

You can use Pacifist (versiontracker.com) to install only the pieces of the system you'd like to. Before you do that though, it's possible that the driver is already there - I believe it is installed as part of the system and not part of the printer drivers. Try launching Textedit (or any other app) and selecting Fax PDF from the Print Dialog. If the driver is installed and there's a fax modem installed, it should create the fax printer automatically. There isn't a way currently to add a fax printer through Printer Setup Utility, the way you would add other printers.
    Hope that helps.

  • I recently bought a new macbook pro and set it up using the migration assistant and my mac mini.  I can't get the text message forwarding feature to work with both computers.

I recently bought a new macbook pro and set it up using the migration assistant from my mac mini.  I can't get the text message forwarding feature to work with both computers.  It keeps saying that I only have 2 devices setup, my iPad and my macbook pro.  When I mess with the setting on my mac mini, it goes from saying that that is one of the devices to my macbook pro being the 2nd device.  I think that something happened as a result of my using the migration assistant and now it thinks that my macbook pro and my mac mini are one and the same computer.  Any ideas?

    Thanks, Sig.
The old computer is a 2.6 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
The new one is a 2.3 GHz intel core i7
In going over this, thanks to "tallking it out" with you, I did discover the Text Edit problem.  Because I've still been unable to get the new computer text size (fonts or whatever) to match the old computer, I did not notice that the curser is now different--the line midway down the curser has to be placed on the line I am working upon, otherwise the edits go elsewhere on the page.  Now, with a bit of difficulty, I am able to get Text Edit to work correctly.
If you have any ideas as to why my menu bar and Text Edit type are still so slow, I'd love to have them.
(I went through the process you suggested earlier, re my Trackpad preferences, and found no improvement.)

  • How Do I Increase The Speed Of Sending Emails Using The Mail Service on my Mac Mini Server?

Note: This is the first time I have set up a mail server.
I have a Ruby on Rails application where I am currently sending approx. 240 individual emails with the potential of more being sent each week as more people add themselves to our mailing list.  I am sending them invidually in order to personalize the emails and to hopefully prevent my emails being falsely identified as spam.
The GoDaddy email address I was using in my Rails application has a daily limit of sending 250 emails each day.  With our mailing list fastly approaching 250 I decided to set up an email address on my Mac Mini Server using Mountain Lion (OS X Server).  The email address was set up to be stored locally at the advice of Apple Enterprise Support.  This email address will not be used in an email program.  It will only be used in all my Rails applications.
My emails send properly but take almost 10 seconds an email.  When I use the same software with GoDaddy's email address the emails take about eight minutes to send.  With the email address I created it takes about 41 minutes.  The difference seems to have to do with the sacl_check being done.  Here is an example of what I see for each email in mail.log.
    Mar 14 11:06:50 hostname.domain1.com postfix/qmgr[45322]: 4B2C5603D25: removed
    Mar 14 11:06:59 hostname.domain1.com postfix/smtpd[99464]: sacl_check: mbr_user_name_to_uuid([email protected]) failed: No such file or directory
There is 9-10 seconds that elapses when the sacl_check.  If I subtract this difference the remaining time is almost the time that the GoDaddy email takes to send the same number of emails.
The link below is a post about the sacl_check.  I was looking at the comments by powercore from Germany at the comments where settings in /etc/postfix/main.cf are discussed.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3241121?start=0&tstart=0
Will making these setting changes speed up the sending of the emails from my Mail Server or is there something else I can check?
