Sharepoint 2013 master/detail

In a sharepoint 2013 web part, I am planning to have a master/detail association. The master will contain data that does not change where the detail will be data that is entered on a weekly basis.
My questions include the following:
1. My fist question is if I need 1 or 2 custom lists. Right now in the workflow that I am planning to allow a user will keep entering data into a custom list until the custom list request is approved by the 'authorized' user. The data is stored in the
1st custom list.
However when I am ready to setup the master/detail webpart, I am not certain if I should use the the existing custom list or start a new custom list. If I use a new custom list, I would pass the applicable information from the approved custom
list to the new custom list and that would be the 'master' part of the master/detail webpart. The detail would be the weekly data that is submitted.
2. Right now I do know who how I will store the data that will appear on the master/detail webpart. Will the 'master' data come from 1 custom list and the repeating data that is entered weekly will come from another list? Basically can you tell me how the
data should be stored for the master/detail webpart?

Hi,
From your description, I know you have some questions when you create a master/detail web part in SharePoint 2013.
In your case, you just need one custom list. Before you create the master/detail, you should create a custom list with enough columns. When you create your master/detail, you could select some columns from columns in the custom list to display in master,
and select other columns from columns in the custom list to display in detail. You can learn how to create the master/detail by referring to this blog:
http://blog.splibrarian.com/2012/05/21/connecting-web-parts-with-a-selector-and-a-detail-pane-sharepoint-2010-version/. Though it is for SP 2010 it should work the same in SP 2013.
As you want to prevent user to edit item when the item is approved, you could add another workflow to remove edit permission of current item. You can refer to this article:https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/e2e59b58-8623-472b-8314-f2967e5271e9/sharepoint-2013-workflow-update-list-item-permissions-in-workflow?forum=sharepointgeneral.

  • Convert a sharepoint 2007 master page to a Sharepoint 2013 master page

    Dear friends,
                     I'm doing migration from SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2013. I was able to migrate the databases and deployed the customisations to new SP2013 environment. Can
    you please advice me which approch should I follow when migrating the master page? Does anyone have experience ?
    Thanks,
    Dilip

    Hi Dilip,
    There is no easy way to migrate SharePoint 2007 master page to SharePoint 2013.
    SharePoint 2013 use new CSS Style and theme. When you migrate to SharePoint 2013, the master page will be set to use the default master page in SharePoint 2013. To support the new UI in SharePoint 2013, changes have been made to the default master pages.
    For this reason, you cannot apply a master page created in SharePoint 2007 to a site in SharePoint 2013.

    We have created one SharePoint 2013 public site in office 365.
    We create a custom master page for entire site.when i am login with particular user then its fine.but for anonymous user publishing page design and content not properly view.
    please provide me proper solution for publishing page layout that works with anonymous user.

    You should be able to configure this within the library settings of the master page library as below.

    but i get the following error when i create page through this page layout
    "Content Place holders are only allowed in master page"
    Can anyone tell me how do i insert left navigation in page layout which is created through sharepoint designer (.aspx file) but master page is created through design manager

    Hi  ,
    As the error says, you need to  add Content Place holders to Mater Page not the Page Layout.
    For  inserting  left navigation, you can add Vertical Navigation SharePoint component to the master page using Snippets  manager:
    1.
    Open the site then click design manager link from right top corner "Settings".
    2.
    Click “Edit Master Pages” link.
    3.Click your custom mater page. It will open preview page.
    4.
    Once open the preview page then click Snippets menu from top right side. It will open “Snippet Gallery” in new tab page.
    5.
    Click the Vertical Navigation menu item in “DESIGN “tab.
    6.
    In this page we can easy to configure component properties.
    After customization must click the update button then only the changes are reflected in the component snippet.
    7.
    Once click the update button the HTML code automatically generated in the “HTML snippet” box and click “Copy to Clipboard” button.
    8.
    Open the mapped network drive then open the Mater Page HTML file and paste HTML snippet where you want the navigation to show.

  • Adding a Left Navigation in the place of Current navigation in SharePoint 2013 Site.

    Hi All,
    I have successfully converted an HTML Page to a SharePoint 2013 Master Page. I also created a Custom Page Layout. Using both them I have created my SharePoint Site with 30+ pages. Each page is consisted with the Top Header Navigation as it is inheriting
    from the Master Page I have used. Now I need the left navigation inherit from the master page also. It gives me the advantage of updating it from the master page and affects it through the entire SharePoint Site.
    But at the moment I am inserting the Left Nav using a web part as an HTMl code snippet individually for each and every page. If needs a modification I have to go through all the pages and do the modification. This is not convenient also. I want to this left
    nav like the SharePoint Current Navigation alternative but within my Page Layout.
    Is there an option to chat within these forums?
    Could someone help me to solve this problem?
    Thanks and regards,
    Chiranthaka

    Hi Chiranthaka,
    Thank you for posting in MSDN forum.
    Since
    this forum is to discuss: Visual
    Studio WPF/SL Designer, Visual Studio Guidance Automation Toolkit, Developer Documentation and Help System, and Visual Studio Editor.
    Based on your issue,
    it is more related to the sharepoint, so I’m afraid that
    it is not the correct forum for this issue.
    In addition, I find that you have been posted this issue in this SharePoint forum:

    so we will merge this case to the above case, I think that the SharePoint expert will follow up your issue.
    Thanks for your understanding.

  • Changing Site Actions Gear Icon to 'Site Actions' Word in SharePoint 2013

    Hi all,
    I want to know that is it possible to change the Site Action's Gear Icon to Site Actions word in the SharePoint 2013 Master Page?
    If so how?
    It should align along with the Logged in UserName like the Gear Icon.
    Please could someone give me some tip on this?
    Thanks and regards,
    Chiranthaka

    Hi Chiranthaka,
    As I understand, you would like to add text “Site Actions” to site settings gear icon. We could use JQuery to achieve it:
    $(document).ready(function () {
    $('.ms-siteactions-root > span > a.ms-core-menu-root').append("<label>Site Actions</label>");
    Please refer more information about the coding:
    http://www.broculos.net/2014/03/sharepoint-2013-add-text-to-site.html#.VB_d0xCKAiR
    You could also download JQuery.min.js from the link below:

  • Can't change the master page after upgrading to SharePoint 2013.

    After upgrading our farm to SharePoint 2013 we are having trouble changing the master page for sites that don't have sub-sites. We are still using the v4 UI version, and that appears to be what is causing the problem. The error we get when going to /_layouts/ChangeSiteMasterPage.aspx
    is:
    System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.    at Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.Internal.CodeBehind.AreaChromeSettingsPage.OnLoad(EventArgs e)     at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive()
    at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint)
    I took a peek at the source code for AreaChromeSettingsPage.OnLoad and found that it references a CheckBox control that does not exist in the v4 ChangeSiteMasterPage.aspx:
    protected override void OnLoad(EventArgs e)
    base.OnLoad(e);
    this.EnsureChildControls();
    if (!this.Page.IsPostBack)
    this.LoadValues();
    if (base.Web.Webs.Count == 0)
    this.resetSystemMasterPageSubSitesCheckBox.Visible = false;
    this.resetSubSitesCheckBox.Visible = false;
    this.resetAlternateCssSubSitesCheckBox.Visible = false;
    this.resetThemeSubSitesCheckBox.Visible = false;
    base.ConfigureCancelButton(this.BtnCancel);
    If I manually add a checkbox control with the ID "resetThemeSubSitesCheckBox" to a hidden panel in the v4 copy of ChangeSiteMasterPage.aspx the page works, but obviously this is not a best practice. How can we fix this without upgrading the UI version, which
    we are not yet ready to do?

    Thanks Mike - Could you please share what is your next step then? I also have custom master pages and layout but I am going to make new master page and layout in 2013 as we need to change the existing branding too. so, i upgrade the site collection. I understand
    the Look and Feel will not persist after the upgrade but I am concern that at least the page should show the content on the page after the upgrade. The page had Calendar webppart on it but after the upgrade it is coming blank.
    any suggestion?

  • Adding Custom Breadcrumb for SharePoint 2013 Custom Master-Page With A Custom Separator.

    Hi All,
    I have successfully converted an HTML file to a SharePoint 2013 Custom Master-Page with relevant style sheets. But when I used within the SharePoint site I could not find the breadcrumb. So I want to know how to do that? For that breadcrumb I need a custom
    separator like an arrow like in the below.
    As you can see the separator is a custom built one. To have this custom separator in my HTML I have used the following code snippet.
    <div class="breadcrumb-desktop">
    <span class="breadcrumb-links"><a href="#">SharePoint Site Home</a></span>
    <span class="breadcrumb-links"><a href="#">Sub Link 01</a></span> Active Page
    </div>
    The styles are as like in the below.
    .breadcrumb-desktop {
    width: 100%;
    font-family: Arial;
    padding: 23px 0 40px;
    float: left;
    font-size: 0.75em;
    line-height: 1.25;
    .breadcrumb-desktop > span.breadcrumb-links:after {
    content: " \203A ";
    white-space: pre;
    I have tried the following code snippet within the SharePoint site as
    <!--MS:<asp:sitemappath runat="server" sitemapproviders="SPSiteMapProvider,SPXmlContentMapProvider" rendercurrentnodeaslink="false" hideinteriorrootnodes="true">-->
    <!--ME:</asp:sitemappath>-->
    But it did not display as I wanted.
    So how am I supposed to insert these to my Custom Master-Page's breadcrumb and style them? Please could someone help me to solve this?
    Thanks and regards,
    Chiranthaka

    Hi Chiranthaka,
    Please use the following code snippet in your html master page.
    <div class="CustomBreadcrumbs">
    You are here:
    <!--SPM:<SharePoint:AjaxDelta id="DeltaPlaceHolderPageTitleInTitleArea" runat="server">-->
    <!--SPM:<asp:ContentPlaceHolder id="PlaceHolderTitleBreadcrumb" runat="server">-->
    <!--MS:<asp:sitemappath runat="server" sitemapproviders="SPSiteMapProvider,SPXmlContentMapProvider" rendercurrentnodeaslink="false" hideinteriorrootnodes="true">-->
    <!--ME:</asp:sitemappath>-->
    <!--SPM:</asp:ContentPlaceHolder>-->
    <!--SPM:</SharePoint:AjaxDelta>-->
    </div>

    We can also customize a breadcrumb control, then add it in master page.

  • Can anyone tell me in detail how to install SharePoint 2013?

    I know it requires Windows Server Operating System, so  installed it on my VMWare (can it be installed on Win8 by any any any chance, highly unlikely)
    When I installed SharePoint Foundation 2013, it extracted files and then opened cmd prompt which opened 'splash.hta' in visual studio. I can't get past it!
    What are the pre-requisites???
    Please tell me in detail how to install Sharepoint on a laptop, if it is possible.
    I am learning it these days, and want to try on it on my laptop.

     know it requires Windows Server Operating System, so  installed it on my VMWare (can it be installed
    on Win8 by any any any chance, highly unlikely)
    Inder : Yes you can install it on VMware but VM's operating system should be windows server 2008 r2 or
    Windows server 2012.  Installing SharePoint 2013 preview on Windows 8 is unsupported, although here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30345 it's listed. You need to install on either Server 2008 R2 SP1 or Server 2012 RC
    When
    I installed SharePoint Foundation 2013, it extracted files and then opened cmd prompt which opened 'splash.hta' in visual studio. I can't get past it!
    Inder: can't say why is happening may be you dont have windows server.
    What are the pre-requisites???
    Inder: Its better if you are connected to internet from the VM to download and install pre-requisites.
    It is a pain to manualy install it

  • How to set custom master page for social/sites.aspx in sharepoint 2013

    How to set custom master page for social/sites.aspx in sharepoint 2013.?
    File path is
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Web Server Extensions\15\TEMPLATE\FEATURES\SocialDataStore\SocialDataStoreList\sites.aspx
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    You could open the sites.aspx in Notepad or SharePoint designer, and set the master page to your own master page directly via editing:
    <%@ Page language="C#" MasterPageFile="~masterurl/custom.master"      Inherits="Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal.WebControls.FollowedContentWebPartPage,Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal,Version=15.0.0.0,Culture=neutral,PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c"
    %>

  • How to set master page for Wildcard inclusion Managed path in Sharepoint 2013

    I am using sharepoint 2013. I created mysite in root level for newsfeed. Also i included wildcard inclusion managed path named as
    my. If i am clicking newsfeed the page url is http://webapplication:port/
    if  i am clicking sites the page url is http://webapplication:port/my/CURRENTUSERNAME/Social/Sites.aspx#IsEditing_WPQ4=1.
    I can apply master page for newsfeed site using sharepoint designer. But i cant apply for
    my path.
    If am opening http://webapplication:port/my/vijay in designer i can change the master page. But my requirement is to apply master page for http://webapplication:port/my
    for all users have same master page.
    How to solve this . Thanks in advance.

    You need to update the mysitehost masterpage. all master pages are created as mysitehost template.
    Here is how you do it.
    Create a site collection with template as mysitehost
    Modify the mysitehost masterpage
    Once it is done, update the mysitehost in user profile service application
