Sharing a database online with a small group

I have a group of 11 people that should have access as well as the rights to modify and add information to a database I developed in Access 2007. Is it possible to share this DB for free, but still protect it for not being accessed without a user and a
code?

Hi,
There is more than one method to share Access database depending on different situations. Here is an article which provides an overview of the methods:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-in/access-help/ways-to-share-an-access-database-HA010279159.aspx
As this is SharePoint forum, I found some information with regard to sharing an Access database by using a SharePoint site. There are two methods: publish database and link to SharePoint lists.
http://office.microsoft.com/en-in/access-help/publish-a-database-to-a-sharepoint-site-HA010131469.aspx
http://office.microsoft.com/en-in/access-help/introduction-to-integrating-data-between-access-and-a-sharepoint-site-HA010131463.aspx
http://blogs.technet.com/b/hub/archive/2010/11/08/publish-your-access-database-to-sharepoint.aspx
As to security requirement, we could use authentication on SharePoint site to protect your information.
Please also ask the question in Access forum via the links below for more professional assistance:

  • How can I share a pdf with a small group of people and restricting downloading and changing the file?

I guess it was important to mention that the sharing needs to be done online.

    Hi sirbails,
You can use Adobe Send to send a link to the file to whomever you choose--and only the people who have a link to that file would be able to access it. As for restricting editing, that's something that you would set up in Acrobat when you create the file. You can assign security that would disallow certain functions, such as editing or printing the file.
For more information about Send, please see cloud.acrobat.com/send. For more information about security in Acrobat, see PDF security, PDF encryption, protect PDF | Adobe Acrobat XI.
Please let us know if you have additional questions.

  • Sharing Portal database connection with JSP page

    Hi out there,
I implemented a JSP page as a selection form to be integrated into Oracle Portal. This JSP page contains a 'dynamic' form which needs to send queries to the database also integrated in the Portal.
For this I am currently using a JDBC connection but I would prefer to use the internal db connection of the Portal System.
Explanation: The user has to log in to the Portal and after that can call the JSP form. To poulate some comboboxes within this form I need some data from the database and the user does have READING privileges on that database.
Can anybody tell me how to use the user's login and password (or the established connection) to fetch the needed data from the database OTHER than with a jdbc connection?
    Thanx in advance!
    Cheers,
    Thomas

sorry. not going to happen. you're running in a completely different environment when running Java on Portal. Portal is running in the database; your Java is running on the application server. your Java code must use JDBC to access any database resources, even if Portal related.
it is essential that you implement a connection pool on the application server to optimize your database traffic. check out bitmechanic for a very good open source option.
    good luck,

  • Is there a way of working collaboratively on a flex project with a small project group?

Is there a way of working collaboratively on a flex project with a small project group?
I am part of a small group of developers who wish to work on a single flex project together. Is there a way to set up flex so that the project can be developed by multiple people at the same time. I have seen one thread out on the internet about working locally and then uploading to SVn but this is not an option in this case.
    Any ideas.
    Many thanks in advance
    Dave

I would say that rushing into development without a source-control system will cost you more in the long-run. If your organisation is serious about developing software it then it needs to invest in the necesary infrastructure, so you should get that process kicked-off as soon as possible.
In the interim you could set-up a source control server on one developer's machine or commandeer a spare machine to use as a temporary source control server. Just make sure you have it backed-up regularly. Or you could use one of the online source control services; many will support private repositories for a small fee.

  • One shared mailbox with multiple distribution groups connected and the sent items folder - how to configure?

    Hi!
I have been struggling for a while now with the following issue.
    For starters:
We are using exchange 2010 in combination with outlook 2013 on client computers.
Cause of the limitations concerning the number of mailboxes in outlook im looking for a solution to receive and reply
to multiple aliasses. So i did the following:
    1. Configured one shared mailbox.
    2. Configured multiple distribution groups
    3.  made the shared mailbox a member of the distribution groups
    4. Configured full access and send as permissions for myself on the shared mailbox ( testing )
    5. Gave send as permissions to the shared mailbox in Active directory.
    6.  Logged in to OWA to setup rules for the shared mailbox.
I now receive emails from all connected distribution groups in the shared mailbox and also in the right folder.
I do however have to select the proper from address when i reply to an email.
the email sent by the main SMTP of the shared mailbox is placed into the sent folder of the shared mailbox.
I setup the senddelagate blabla in register.....
When i sent an email as one of the connected distribution groups it fails to put the sent item in the sent items folder of the shared mailbox. The email is sent using the proper address but placed in the sent folder of my main account.
I want this emails to end up in the sent items folder of the shared mailbox. Or even better, in a sent items folder for each of the addresses.
    Any suggestions ?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
    As what
Rajkumar says, sending as a shared mailbox(full access permission) will put the email in the sent item of shared mailbox. But it cannot be located in the “sent item” of a distribution group. Because
it is a distribution group instead of a enabled user mailbox.
According to your further description, I understand that the reason why you configure that is some users reached the
limitation about the number of Exchange accounts you can include in the same Outlook profile. Is it rights? If I misunderstand, please point it out.
By default, user can only add 10 Exchange accounts to the same profile. You can customize the limit to the number Exchange accounts in the same profile using the following registry data:
    Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\policies\Microsoft\exchange
    DWORD: MaxNumExchange
Value: integer value starting at 1 (default = 10 if DWORD is missing)
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/outlooking/archive/2012/12/24/clarification-on-outlook-2010-and-additional-exchange-account-supportability.aspx
    Hope it helps.

    Hi,
since you are getting a read error, it might as well be, that your datafile is defective.
Try the same dd-command to /dev/null, to see if it is possible to read the entire file.
First make sure that your null-device is existing, otherwise you might face a root-fs full problem.
    dd obs=1024K bs=1024K if=/oracle/ANP/sapdata2/sr3_9/sr3.data9 of=/dev/null
or try a dbverify on it, which would also read the entire file and do a checksum test.
    brbackup -c -u / -m /oracle/ANP/sapdata2/sr3_9/sr3.data9 -t online -w only_dbv
    Good luck

  • What are the Benefits of Synchronizing/ Replicating Project Online with an on-Premise SQL Database

    Hi
What are some of the reasons and/ or benefits that one may want to consider with regards to setting up and synchronizing Project Online with a on-Premise SQL database ?
\Spiro Theopoulos PMP, MCITP. Montreal, QC (Canada)

    Spiro,
Reporting via Project Online is limited to OData, and writing queries with OData starts getting complex at a certain point.
So, if your organization in using third party BI tools, or want to use OLAP cubes, or in general want to use straight SQL queries instead of oData, it is generally beneficial to have the data in house for reporting.
So in general, using the SQL Synchronization, will bring data into "your" organization, as opposed to being with Microsoft so you get a LOT more flexibility with reporting.
    Hope this helps your question.
    Cheers,

  • Newbie - Setup Xserve with Mac Os X 10.6 for small group

I already have infrastructure with DNS, DHCP, file storage etc.... I have a small group of users that will use Macs with OS 10.6 and a new Xserve. I only wnt them to autthenticte to OD on Xserve and thats it. And so I can see logs og their logins.. I will use Apple Remote Desktop but I guess will use it on another MaC not on server.
My background Novell Shop and MS mix, with Linux/Unix. I do Zenworks stuff.. So my question... Ho do I use the xserve only for OD authenticatin I ran through the install worksheet and setup my OD. And I have a MAC workstation im testing. I try to login on thta MAc to my OD server with an account I created on Xserve in Workgroup Manager. But when I login on MAC i see my full name then login window shakes and goes back to login window. I created another user account on server and created that account on MAC locally. I can login but I see no record on xserve password logs. When I login with network account that does not have local account on MAC and get the shaky window I see log on Xserver Password log and see authenticaiton.
On mac I setup to join the OD xserve and tahts it. What am I missing??

But I have another question. If there is a user locally on the MAC workstation and they try to login as th enewtork user, same shortname, it doesnt login with network password only local password. I set password on Network to that one on Local. they login but no hit to password service server log? We only want to use the server to Authenticate OD users and thats it. So can you have local user synch up to network? Or am i only stuck with network users and setting as you described?
This is the function of the Search Path. When binding to external domains, OS X will follow a search path defined in Directory Utility. However, DSLocal is always searched first, followed by BSD flat files, then external directories (AD, OD, LDAP, etc). DSLocal is ALWAYS first. This can not be changed. What this means is that if you have a user on the workstation named Bob Smith with a short name of bsmith and a password of letmein and a UID of 502 AND you create a user in the external directory named Bob Smith with a shortname of bsmith and password of hereiam and a UID of 1026, you will never reach the external directory during login. This is because the shortname bsmith will be hit in the DSLocal domain first as it is always the first directory encountered.
The way around this for systems that you are migrating is to delete the user's account plist and the chown the entire home folder. Now, this assumes that a local admin exists at account 501 already. If this is the case, then the bmsith account attributes (/var/db/dslocal/nodes/Default/users/bsmith.plist) file can be removed from the machine, effectively "deleting" the account without altering the user's data (/Users/bsmith). Then, if the machine is bound to the domain, all that is required in a chown of the /Users/bsmith folder so the UID value of the external directory account is set (1026).
And again, there seems to be some confusion about OS X and home folder types. Apple supports a lot. They are:
Local account with local home: This is the most common. Take machine out of box and create account. For IT, the local initial admin is this type of account. The user exists in the local domain and the home folder is in /Users.
Mobile (domain) account with cached attributes with local home: This requires are directory domain like AD or OD. For the AD plugin, this is default behavior. For OD it is very common. The machine is bound to a domain and on initial login, the user's account attributes are cached to the machine for offline use. This will create a "permanent" account in System Prefs and the user can use his or her domain credentials when offline. As an added feature using MCX, you can add home folder sync on top of this style.
Mobile (domain) account without cached attributes and network home: This is common in schools and training rooms. The workstations are always on the network so there is no need to cache the account nor do you want to litter the machines with local homes. A net home server is established and then users can freely move from machine to machine. On login, an automount share must be available to the workstation and the user uses domain credentials to access the network home. All data is stored in the central network location allowing for ultimate mobility of user.
Now there are also external homes (homes on external drives), guest accounts and more. But the three above are the most common.
Hope this helps all following the thread.

  • Sharing a folder with specific users/group

I am trying to make 3 different shared folders for 3 different groups on Windows server 2008 R2. I have tried creating 3 folders in C:\, and then share it with the specific groups. The problem I have is that even though I have only given read and write permissions
to the specific group members, the other group members(from the 2 other groups) can still read and write in that folder. Which is not supposed to happen. What am I doing wrong and how can I fix this?
PS: I am quite new to this...

    Hi,
As all accessing occurs locally, actually Share permission is not involved.
I assume the purpose is to create a folder which can only be accessed by several members in all 7 users.
Please noticed that, if all users are local admin (in local Administrators group), this will not work as local admin can always take ownership of a folder for gain accessing rights.
If you (and other members in that group) are the only local admins on this computer, set NTFS permission will work.
Again if one of the excluded members has local admin permission, he/she can take ownership to gain accessing rights. 2 workarounds are "set password with a third party application" and "create a new volumn for saving those files, and enable
BitLocker encryption on that volume with a password".

  • EPM 11.1.2.3 Issue with Rehosting Shared Services Database

    Hi All,
We have installed EPM 11.1.2.3 on a distributed environment using QA database. Now we have restored the database to a Production Database.
As per the process, we deleted "reg.properties" from EPM_Oracle_Instance/config/foundation/11.1.2.0 and tried launching the EPM configurator from both
    1) EPM_ORACLE_INSTANCE\bin
    2) EPM_ORACLE_HOME\common\config\11.1.2.0.
But, the "configure database" for Hyperion Foundation is grayed out in both the cases and we are not able to release it for the users.
I Request you to please help us.
    Thanks for your help.
    Best regards,
    Jayant Sahewal

    Hi John,
Thanks for the suggestion. I would have tried forceRegistry as the last option.
But, I figured out that now reg.properties is saved at 2 locations in EPM 11.1.2.3.
    1) EPM_Oracle_Instance/config/foundation/11.1.2.0
    2) EPM_ORACLE_HOME/User_Projects/config/foundation/11.1.2.0
And, to rehost shared services database, reg.properties needs to be deleted from both the locations.
I hope Oracle corrects their documentation. In their EPM 11.1.2.3 deployment options guide, reg.properties isn't mentioned at all.
    Best regards,
    Jayant Sahewal

  • Unable to bring database online on 2nd node in FailSafe and MSCS config

I have a two node cluster running Windows 2003 Server, MSCS, and Oracle Failsafe. I have been unable to bring the database online on Node2. All resources in Cluster Administrator fail over fine and come online except for the Database resource itself. The shared disks, listener, etc, are all online. All resources come online on Node1. When I failover to Node2, the Database Resource fails and posts this error in the Event Viewer:

  • Database creation with ASM using dbca

    hi all,
i found the steps to create the database using ASM diskgroup.
but i received errors when configuring the FRA(flash recovery area), DBF(normal), +ARCH(archival dest),
i tried atleast 2 to 3 times from scratch but found the same error....................
    ORA: 19624
    ORA: 19870
here are the steps can somebody correct these steps..................
Create Virtual Disks from VM Ware software when server is down.
    Choose Edit Virtual Machine Settings.
    Click on Add button
Press Next and Highlight Hard Disk, then click Next
Check ‘Create a New Virtual Disk’
    Choose SCSI as type
    Select Size as 2 GB
Name the virtual disk as ‘ASMDBF1.vmdk’
    Create additional disks as:
    ASMDBF1.vmdk for DBF files
    ASMDBF2.vmdk Failover group
    ASMFRA.vmdk Flash Back Recovery Area
    ASMREDO.vmdk Redo Log Area
    ASMARCH.vmdk Archived Logs
    •     Start up the server OraWorld1
    •     Go to Disk Management and you will be prompted with a screen which should display all five disks with a check mark. Accept defaults and Click next.
    •     On second script all five will be unchecked, click Next
    •     Press Finish to complete and you should see all 5 disks as Type Basic Unallocated. For each of the disk perform:
    1.     Right click, New Partition, Extended Partition and Finish
    2.     Right click, New Logical drive, Do not assign drive letter nor partition it.
    3.     From command prompt type Diskpart and enter Automount enable.
    4.     From command prompt, configure basic CRS services as
    5.     C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1>localconfig add
    6.     C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1>localconfig add
    7.     Step 1: creating new OCR repository
    8.     Successfully accumulated necessary OCR keys.
    9.     Creating OCR keys for user 'administrator', privgrp ''..
    10.     Operation successful.
    11.     Step 2: creating new CSS service
    12.     successfully created local CSS service
    13.     successfully added CSS to home
    •     Launch DBCA and choose Configure Storage Management.
    •     Select Create New group, choose stamp disks which will show you all of your five disks. Configure ASM links to all these disks as:
    1.     ORCLDISKASMDBF1 \Device\Harddisk1\Partition1
    2.     ORCLDISKASMDBF2 \Device\Harddisk2\Partition1
    3.     ORCLDISKASMFRA \Device\Harddisk3\Partition1
    4.     ORCLDISKASMREDO \Device\Harddisk4\Partition1
    5.     ORCLDISKASMARCH \Device\Harddisk5\Partition1
Now make Change Disk Discovery Path as Null and you should see all disks.
Now create Disk groups as :
    ARCH \\.\ORCLDISKASMARCH External 1GB
    REDO \\.\ORCLDISKASMREDO External 1GB
    FRA \\.\ORCLDISKASMFRA External 2GB
DBF (MAIN GROUP WITH 2 SUB-GROUPS) Must create as Normal Redundancy
    DBFP \\.\ORCLDISKASMDBF1 External 2GB
    DBFS \\.\ORCLDISKASMDBF2 External 2GB
You now have a running ASM instance on the server.
    •     Checking ASM instance
You can always use DBCA to check settings of ASM.
    Alternatively, go to command prompt:
    Set ORACLE_SID=+ASM
    Sqlplus /nolog
    Connect sys/password as sysdba
    Show sga (80MB)
Total System Global Area 83886080 bytes
    Fixed Size 1247420 bytes
    Variable Size 57472836 bytes
    ASM Cache 25165824 bytes
SQL>desc You can then check C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\database for these files. You can also view v$parameter for all possible values for ASM instance.
    +asm.asm_diskgroups='DATA1','ARCH','REDO','FRA','DBF'#Manual Mount
    *.asm_diskgroups='DATA1','ARCH','REDO','FRA','DBF'
    *.asm_diskstring=''
    *.background_dump_dest='C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\admin\+ASM\bdump'
    *.core_dump_dest='C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\admin\+ASM\cdump'
    *.instance_type='asm'
    *.large_pool_size=12M
    *.remote_login_passwordfile='SHARED'
    *.user_dump_dest='C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\admin\+ASM\udump'
You can change some of the values like large pool and even db cache size. You can also manually create the disk group as:
    Create diskgroup DBF NORMAL redundancy
    Failgroup flgrp1 disk ‘\\.\ORCLDISKDATA0’, ‘\\.\ORCLDISKDATA1’
    Failgroup flgrp2 disk ‘\\.\ORCLDISKDATA2’, ‘\\.\ORCLDISKDATA3’;
    Check Candidate disks:
    select group_number, disk_number, mount_status, header_status, state, path from v$asm_disk;
    Other useful queries:
    Select group_number, name, total_mb, free_mb, state, type
    From v$asm_diskgroup;
    Select group_number, disk_number, mount_status, header_status, state, path, failgroup
    From v$asm_disk;
You can use sql commands to perform most of the ASM tasks, however EM console can also be used here
    Oracle Database Installation
    •     Launch DBCA
    •     Choose Create Database and select OLTP type
    •     Name it as ORCL2, choose ASM as file system, select all disk groups to be used.
    •     Use oracle managed files as:+DBF press Next
*•     Specify Flash Recovery Area as +FRA*
    *•     Enable archiving at +ARCH*
*•     Choose Auto SGA as 55% of memory*
*•     Leave else default and complete DB creation.*
*•     Launch NetConfig and define Listener with default settings.* here i received the errors,.................
Database ORCL2 is created with the following attributes:
    NAME: ORCL2
    SPFILE: +ARCH/ORCL2/spfileORCL2.ora
    URL: http://oraworld1:1158/em

Strange, those messages are RMAN backup errors -- are you trying to backup the database?
Or...if you selected "create starter database" it may be that dbca is not finding the backup files from the "demo" database.
    :p

  • Whole Database Online + redo log backup: How Long?

    Hi gurus,
There's something I want to ask about online backup with redo log.
If i'm correct, redo log file is created everytime there's operation that change datafile right?
If i schedule this type of backup everyday, it means it will backup all datafiles, along with redo log file when transaction take places, at my pre-defined hours, right?
Then here's what i'm confused about. When will this backup process finished? Is it when all the datafiles have been backed up? Then how about the redo log files? If there are users that keep making transaction (therefore make change to datafiles), new redo log files will be created on disk, and that will prevent the backup process to finish. Then when will this cycle come to an end?
Please confirm if my grasp about oracle online backup is correct or not, and provide explanation to satisfy my curiousity.
    Thanks gurus,

    Hello Fidel,
    i am feeling honored
    > Keep in mind that the only thing where a DBA cannot make mistakes is restore/recovery and this depends on your backups
In general i would say you are right, but i have seen already one case where this statement is not true.
Some time ago i got a call from a colleague where his database crashed, the online redolog files were corrupted and the recovery was not working.
If you don't look really close at this point you are in trouble and can not continue the recovery. Let explain this on a example.
This demonstration is done on an oracle 10.2.0.4, but it work on every other version too.
    Let's simulate a crash
    SQL> shutdown abort;
    Corrupt/delete a specifc redolog file
    SQL> startup
ORA-00313: open failed for members of log group 3 of thread 1
    ORA-00312: online log 3 thread 1: '/oracle/TST/oradata/redolog/redo03.log'
ORA-27037: unable to obtain file status
Ok - so far so good, lets check the groups and files
    SQL> select GROUP#, STATUS, MEMBER from v$logfile where TYPE = 'ONLINE';
        GROUP# STATUS  MEMBER
             1         /oracle/TST/oradata/redolog/redo01.log
             2         /oracle/TST/oradata/redolog/redo02.log
             3         /oracle/TST/oradata/redolog/redo03.log
    SQL> select * from v$log;
        GROUP#    THREAD#  SEQUENCE#      BYTES    MEMBERS ARC STATUS           FIRST_CHANGE# FIRST_TIM
             1          1         95   52428800          1 NO  CURRENT                5117817 06-JAN-09
             3          1         94   52428800          1 YES ACTIVE                 5117814 06-JAN-09
             2          1         93   52428800          1 YES ACTIVE                 5112855 15-DEC-08
    What's the situation?
The online redolog file of group 3 is lost/corrupted and this group is needed to perform a complete recovery (see status ACTIVE).
But you are lucky, because of this group 3 is already archived - so you can perform a complete recovery.
Now let's perform a complete recovery but with UNTIL clause (because we need to jump between the online and archived redologfiles)
    SQL> recover database until cancel;
    ORA-00279: change 5116194 generated at 01/06/2009 21:06:48 needed for thread 1
    ORA-00289: suggestion : /oracle/TST/oraarch/TST_1_93_6b8c0516_666969185.arc
ORA-00280: change 5116194 for thread 1 is in sequence #93
    Specify log: {<RET>=suggested | filename | AUTO | CANCEL}
    ORA-00279: change 5117814 generated at 01/06/2009 21:08:47 needed for thread 1
    ORA-00289: suggestion : /oracle/TST/oraarch/TST_1_94_6b8c0516_666969185.arc
ORA-00280: change 5117814 for thread 1 is in sequence #94
ORA-00278: log file '/oracle/TST/oraarch/TST_1_93_6b8c0516_666969185.arc' no longer needed for this recovery
    Specify log: {<RET>=suggested | filename | AUTO | CANCEL}
    ORA-00279: change 5117817 generated at 01/06/2009 21:08:51 needed for thread 1
    ORA-00289: suggestion : /oracle/TST/oraarch/TST_1_95_6b8c0516_666969185.arc
ORA-00280: change 5117817 for thread 1 is in sequence #95
ORA-00278: log file '/oracle/TST/oraarch/TST_1_94_6b8c0516_666969185.arc' no longer needed for this recovery
    Specify log: {<RET>=suggested | filename | AUTO | CANCEL}
    /oracle/TST/oradata/redolog/redo01.log
    Log applied.
    Media recovery complete.
Now execute an OPEN NORESETLOGS accidentally (maybe the dba think it is not necessary because of the complete recovery) and try an OPEN RESETLOGS after:
    SQL> alter database open noresetlogs;
    alter database open noresetlogs
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00313: open failed for members of log group 3 of thread 1
    ORA-00312: online log 3 thread 1: '/oracle/TST/oradata/redolog/redo03.log'
ORA-27037: unable to obtain file status
    SQL> alter database open resetlogs;
    alter database open resetlogs
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01139: RESETLOGS option only valid after an incomplete database recovery
So now you are lost.. you can't execute an UNTIL CANCEL anymore which would be needed to perform a successful OPEN RESETLOGS.
In this special case you can do mistakes and you have to restore the whole database and perform the same recovery again and end with OPEN RESETLOGS.
    Just for information
    Regards
    Stefan
