ShortDesc for af:column
I have a table with filterable columns and want to add a popup hint to the filter input to help users with search conditions, similar to how a hint on the date format is automatically added when filtering by date on a column. I thought the shortDesc attribute for af:column does that, but it does nothing.
Anyone know if that's the right attribute? or how to implement a popup tip like the date column filter?
Ok I tried the things mentioned in the link you posted, but they don't work either. I created a Resource Bundle-Based Help, and used the HelpTopicId attribute to display a note window popup, but it doesn't show up that way either.
The document says that ShortDesc should work too but it doesn't, so my question is why doesn't it?
Here is how I coded my af:column tag:
<af:column sortProperty="#{bindings.ChNoteView2.hints.Note.name}"
filterable="true" sortable="true"
headerText="Clinical Notes" id="c1" width="250"
filterFeatures="caseInsensitive"
helpTopicId="ICHT_FILTER_COLUMN_TEXT" shortDesc="Some Help text here.">
<af:outputText value="#{row.bindings.Note.inputValue}" id="it5">
</af:outputText>
</af:column>
I am expecting to see a note window popup displaying "Some Help text here." but nothing happens when I click into the column filter input.

Multi-column Index vs One index for each column
Hello everyone,
i have one table about 20 000 000 rows, some developers have to generate reports on it and i want to create indexes on this table.
The table has 34 columns, no primary key, no unique keys.
The "where..." clause of the reports usually use 8 columns but some reports uses 8 + some other columns.
can any one help me on what kind of indexes do i have to create?
1. one index for each column used in "where clause"
2. one index for 8 columns and some other indexes for other used columns
3. one index for all columns
or something else etc...

Let me suppose that you are runing OLTP database and you have a where clause with 8 columns.
1) are all those where clause equalities (where col1 = and col2 =) or there are inequalities?
2) could you evaluate the most repetitive columns?
3) could you know the column that could have the best clustering factor (the column which most follow a certain order in the table)
Based on that I would suggest to create one b-tree index having 8 columns (even though that it seems for me to high) this index should follow the following points:
1) put the most repetitive column at the leading edge (and compress the index if necessary)
2) put the columns that are used in equalitity predicate first
3) put the column having the best clustering factor first
The most precise index you have the best access you could gain.
Of course that you have to know that an index access is not always good and a FULL table scan is not always bad.

Different number of rows for different columns in JTable
hi
I need to create a JTable with different number of rows for different columns...
Also the rowheight should be different in each column...
say there is a JTable with 2 columns... Col1 having 5 rows and column 2 having 2 rows...
The rowHeight in Col2 should be an integer multiple of Rowheight in Col1
how do I do this ??
can anybody send me some sample code ?????
thanx in advanceHow about nesting JTables with 1 row and many columns in a JTable with 1 column and many rows.
Or you could leave the extra columns null/blank.
You could use a GridBagLayout and put a panel in each group of cells and not use JTable at all.
It would help if you were more specific about how you wanted it to appear and behave. -
Is there a way to have tooltips for every column in a TableView?
Hi there!
I found in documentation that any node and control can show a tooltip ( http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2/api/javafx/scene/control/Tooltip.html ) but I can't get tooltips to work for TableColumn (a column from TableView).
Do you have any idea how could I have tooltips for each column of the table view?TableColumn's are neither controls nor nodes, so you can neither set nor install tooltips on them.
You can use cellfactories to set tooltips on cells generated from the factories.
You can use css style lookups (node.lookup function) to get access to table nodes (such as the headers) after the tableview has been displayed on a stage and then manipulate the displayed nodes to add tooltips. It's not a great approach, but it is the only approach I know at the moment that would work. -
Average sum for a column in ALV tree layout
Hi,
I've trying to set an average sum for a column in an ALV tree report. In the field catalog i set the DO_SUM field to 'X' and this will do a total sum, but I can't find out how in the code to do the average sum.
Also to get round this I was going to just set a default display variant with the "average" sum option saved after i had manually selected the columns and set it to this. Problem with this is that when i re-run it, the sum comes back as a total rather than an average. I have tried setting display variants on the SAP example ALV tree programs and the same thing happens.
Does anyone know how i can get round this?
Cheers
Matt.Hi,
In addition to setting DO_SUM = 'X' you need to specify function in H_FTYPE field. It should be set to 'AVG' in your case.
ls_fielcat-do_sum = 'X'.
ls_fieldcat-h_ftype = 'AVG. -
How to set default values for boolean columns
I'm trying to deploy some content types and columns into a site with a feature. All it's ok, except that I'm trying to set a default value for boolean columns with no success.
I've tried to set default value at column level:
<Field ID="{EFE23A1D-494E-45cf-832E-45E41B17F0CF}" Name="ScopeSpanish" DisplayName="Se publican noticias en español"
Type="Boolean" Hidden="FALSE" Group="Columnas ShaCon" >
<Default>TRUE</Default>
</Field>
and at content type level:
<FieldRef ID="{EFE23A1D-494E-45cf-832E-45E41B17F0CF}" Name="ScopeSpanish" DefaultValue="TRUE" Required="TRUE" />
But in any case, when i create a new item with this content type, default value is applied.
Can anyone tell how to set default values for boolean columns?
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
SergioIn the field definition you can set
<Default>1</Default>
or
<Default>0</Default>

Get frequent data for each column of a table
What is the best way to get the most frequent data in each column of a table.
we have around 25 tables and each table has around 20 columns , so rather than writing group by for each column of table , is there any easy way to find this?
example we have table
Column A Column B Column C
Apple Monday Red
orange Tuesday Green
Apple Monday Red
Lemon Wednesday Green
Apple Thursday Red
in this table, column A's frequnt data is Apple , column B's frequent data is Monday , Column C's frequnt data is Red
Apple 3 Monday 2 Red 3
Orange 2 Tuesday 1 Green 2
Lemon 1 Wednesday 1
Thursday 1
Group by kind of query will give this result, but with 20 tables each having 20 - 30 columns if we need similar kind of result .. is there any way to get this data.Hi,
GROUP BY (using aggregate functions) is the best way to do what you described.
PIVOT and UNPIVOT are probably what you'd want in this case. The phrase "GROUP BY" may not actually appear in your code, but you'll essentially be doing a GROUP BY.
Analytic functions (rather than aggregate functions) can do the job, too, but they'll be less efficient. Analytic functions get you results about the groups, without losing each row's identify, but in this case, losing each row's identity is eactly what you want to do. You only want 'Apple' to appear 1 time, not 3 times.
The fact that you need to do the same query on 20 different tables suggests that there's something wrong with your table design. Wouldn't it be better to have 1 big table, with a new column that has 20 unique values instead?
I hope this answers your question.
If not, please post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements, relevant columns only) from all tables involved, so that the people who want to help you can re-create the problem and test their ideas.
Also post the results you want from that data, and an explanation of how you get those results from that data, with specific examples.
Simplify the problem as much as possible. For example, instead of posting a problem with 20 tables, each having 25 columns, post a similar problem involving, say, 2 tables, each with 3 columns.
Always say which version of Oracle you're using (for example, 11.2.0.2.0).

How does Toggle Visible for a Column in a Table work ?
Hi All,
I have a question for you.
Using version 11.1.1.7:
I was playing with a use case where I need to show and hide columns in an af:table component.
I want to do this clientside using javascript.
Guess what: It works, however, it only works for hiding columns ?!
Initially I have client component = true and visible is true.
See javascript below.
When I call hideColumn, the component is found and hidden after calling.
When I call showColumns (after it is hidden) the component cannot be found anymore.
function showColumn(evt){
var col = AdfPage.PAGE.findComponentByAbsoluteId("pt1:pc1:t1:c9") ;
col.setVisible(true);
function hideColumn(evt){
var col = AdfPage.PAGE.findComponentByAbsoluteId("pt1:pc1:t1:c9") ;
col.setVisible(false);
}I checked and when the columns visible property is initially false, the column is not found by AdfPage.PAGE.findComponentByAbsoluteId("pt1:pc1:t1:c9"), which means it is not available ?!
It looks like the visible property for an af:column works slightly different then for other components such as buttons.
Also makes me wonder how the panelCollection component shows and hides columns. Doesn't that component do exactly the same ?
Thanks.Luc,
couldn't find a hint in the sources (maybe didn't spend enough time). However, one reason for this behavior would be if the hidden column had no client component created (in which case it only exists as hidden HTML). The work around I think would be to use a serverListener on the table and to pass the columns to show/hide as the payload for server side show/hide

Get a quarter out of data for a column chart
Who can help me with this challenge?
I want to create a column chart with four quarters in the current year and one column with the rest later in time.
One project can have multiple output data. They are separated by an ;
The notation of the outputdata can be a date (d-m-yyyy), a month (mm-yyyy) or a quarter (Q1-yyyy).
This is by example the available data.
Project outputdata
Project 1 1-4-2014
Project 2 03-2014;Q4-2014;Q2-2015
Project 3 25-09-2014;Q1-2015
The data I want to get for the column chart is:
Project outputdata columnchart
Project 1 1-4-2014 Q2-2014
Project 2 03-2014 Q1-2014
Project 2 Q4-2014 Q4-2014
Project 2 Q2-2015 2015 and later
Project 3 25-09-2014 Q3-2014
Project 3 Q1-2015 2015 and later
I hope that someone can help me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance,

evidently the problem is a lack of public execute on DBMS_LOB, which is used in the generated IR source.
while waiting for the DBA to grant privs on DBMS_LOB, changing the dbms_lob.getlength call to length() fixes the IR.
however, i am not getting the download link on the associated form page... changed templates, that's not the issue -- we'll see if that's a dbms_lob issue as well -

Limitation for CLOB columns? - ORA-01704: string literal too long
Hello!
I'm trying to update a CLOB column with more than 35000 characteres, but I get "ORA-01704: string literal too long".
The code:

returning test into l_clob;
dbms_lob.write( l_clob, length('A...here 35000xA...A'), 1,'A...here 35000xA...A');
end;
Is there any limitation for CLOB columns?
Thanks for help.

Frame 9 solution for table column + side head does not work in Frame 10 and 11
In Frame 9 structured (DITA) we could force Frame to record the actual widths of table columns in the DITA XML. Frame 9 would respect the widths when opening the file. This was particularly useful for forcing tables to be wide -- to go across the column and the side head -- and for the columns to never resize.
In Frame 9 this was done by commenting out the line
"writer use proportional widths;"
like this
"/* writer use proportional widths; */"
in the topic.rules.text" file located in
"...\FrameMaker9\Structure\xml\DITA\app\DITA-Topic-FM"
This no longer works in Frame10 and Frame 11. Even though the same line is commented out in all the "NAME.rules.txt" files in all the subdirectories of
"...\AdobeFrameMaker11\Structure\xml\DITA_1.2\app"
and
"...\AdobeFrameMaker11\Structure\xml\DITA\app"
and
"...\AdobeFrameMaker10\Structure\xml\DITA_1.2\app"
and
"...\AdobeFrameMaker10\Structure\xml\DITA\app" .
Commenting out the line does force Frame 10 and 11 to record the absolute column width (2.357" etc.) in the DITA XML.
However, on Open, Frame 10 and 11 force the table to fit in the column, not the column and sidehead. That is they behave as though they were still using proportional column widths. It seems the original values (as inserted by Frame 10 and 11 before closing!) are recalculated on Open, thereby mimicking the default proportional width behavior.
For example, this on Save then Close from Frame 10 or 11
<table frame = "topbot" colsep = "0" rowsep = "1">
<tgroup cols = "4" colsep = "0" rowsep = "1" outputclass = "FormatB">
<colspec colnum = "1" colname = "1" colwidth = "1.796in" colsep = "0"/>
<colspec colnum = "2" colname = "2" colwidth = "1.852in" colsep = "0"/>
<colspec colnum = "3" colname = "3" colwidth = "1.179in" colsep = "0"/>
<colspec colnum = "4" colname = "4" colwidth = "2.152in" colsep = "0"/>
goes to this on Open then Save:
<table frame = "topbot" colsep = "0" rowsep = "1">
<tgroup cols = "4" colsep = "0" rowsep = "1" outputclass = "FormatB">
<colspec colnum = "1" colname = "1" colwidth = "1.351in" colsep = "0"/>
<colspec colnum = "2" colname = "2" colwidth = "1.393in" colsep = "0"/>
<colspec colnum = "3" colname = "3" colwidth = "0.887in" colsep = "0"/>
<colspec colnum = "4" colname = "4" colwidth = "1.618in" colsep = "0"/>
Any help at all would be appreciated!
We have 8,000 to 10,000 pages to PDF in the next few days and about 33% of those pages are messed up tables!
Message was edited by: borealforestHi...
Unfortunately, I don't have any insight into the default DITA table handling in FM10 or FM11 .. so can't give you the answer you're looking for. Since both FM10 and FM11 offer ExtendScript, you could write a script (or have one written) that processes all of your files to reset the table widths. Or, perhaps the best short term solution may be to reinstall FM9 to get the job done, then spend more time later to figure out a better solution.
One alternative would be for you to use DITA-FMx, which supports the table/@pgwide attribute for controlling which tables span the page and which don't. Since your tables probably don't make use of this attribute, it won't help in the near term, but might make sense going forward.
