Should I worry about the following warning?

I have the following:
public class Record
  private RecordMetadata                metadata;
  private List<Field<? extends Object>> data;
  (snip)
  public <T> void setValue( String fieldName, T value )
    int fieldIndex = this.metadata.getFieldIndex( fieldName );
    this.data.set( fieldIndex, new Field<T>( value ) );
  public <T> T getValue( Class<T> clazz, String fieldName )
    int fieldIndex = this.metadata.getFieldIndex( fieldName );
    Field<? extends Object> field = this.data.get( fieldIndex );
    return (T) field.getValue( );
  }In the last line (return in getValue) I'm getting the following warning (as reported by Eclipse):
Type safety: The cast from capture-of ? extends Object to T is actually checking against the erased type Object
What does this exactly mean? Should I worry about it? Should I do what I'm trying to do in another way?

Field<? extends Object> field = this.data.get(
get( fieldIndex );
return (T) field.getValue( );
You are not making use of the Class object that you're passing to
getValue. You could use it to get rid of the warning:
return clazz.cast(field.getValue());
