Show Oracle structure from Access
Hello everybody,
Based on miscellaneous sources in newsgroups, I got an Access sub to show the structure of my Oracle base, i.e. the user's tables names and the fields names, sizes and types.
That runs fine, except if I have fields of type TIMESTAMP(6), in which case the field name is blank (in fact empty string), and the field type appears identical to that of the previous field.
Would anyone be able to explain me what is my error, and how to correct it ?
This is VBA code, ran from Access 2003 :
Public Sub ListeBaseOracle()
Dim wrkODBC As Workspace
Dim OracleDB As Database
Dim Tb As TableDef
Dim s As String
' strCon for documentary purposes - not used
strCon = "Driver={Microsoft ODBC for Oracle}; " & _
"CONNECTSTRING=(DESCRIPTION=" & _
"(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)" & _
"(HOST=SERVER.FR)(PORT=1521))" & _
"(CONNECT_DATA=(SID = USER))); uid=USER;pwd=USER;"
Set OracleDB = DBEngine(0).OpenDatabase("", dbDriverComplete, False, "ODBC;UID=USER;PWD=USER;DSN=WILLNOTKNOW.NET")
Set gConnection = New ADODB.Connection
gConnection.Open sConnect
MousePointer = vbDefault
rs.Open " SELECT * FROM TAB", gConnection
If rs.EOF = False Then
Do Until rs.EOF
'RsTable.Open " SELECT * FROM " = rs!TNAME, gConnection
RsTable.Open "SELECT * FROM " + rs!TNAME, gConnection
Debug.Print rs![TNAME]
For Each F In RsTable.Fields
Debug.Print " " + F.Name, F.Type
Next
RsTable.Close
rs.MoveNext
Loop
Else
MsgBox "No table accessible to user"
gConnection.Close
End
End If
rs.Close
gConnection.Close
End Sub

Well, there is some news about this.
I could get the field name using openShema, but I was unable to find a documentation about openShema.
I am still searching about the field type, as I get the same value in the DATA_TYPE field for a TIMESTAMP column as for a RAW one (and the TYPE_GUID is empty).
rs.Open " SELECT * FROM TAB", gConnection
If rs.EOF = False Then
Do Until rs.EOF
RsTable.Open "SELECT * FROM " + rs!TNAME, gConnection
NomTab = rs!TNAME
Set rsC = gConnection.OpenSchema(adSchemaColumns, Array(Empty, Empty, NomTab, Empty))
Debug.Print rs![TNAME]
While Not rsC.EOF
Debug.Print "", rsC!COLUMN_NAME, rsC!Description, rsC!DATA_TYPE, rsC!TYPE_GUID
rsC.MoveNext
Wend
RsTable.Close
rs.MoveNext
Loop
Else
MsgBox "No data"
gConnection.Close
End
End If
rs.Close
gConnection.Close

Problem calling Oracle function from Access 2007 / ADO
Hopefully, I'm posting this in the correct forum. I'm also posting on an Access forum as I'm not entirely sure where the issue lies.
I'm calling an Oracle function from Access 2007 using an ADO Command object.
The function takes three input parameters and has a return value and an output parameter. The output parameter is a BLOB, and the return value is varchar2 (either "T" or "N") based on the outcome of the function.
If I pass correct values to the function, I get the following error message (errs out on the command.execute line):
Run-time error '-2147467259 (80004005)':
[Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error
ORA-06512: at line 1
Here's the function:
FUNCTION GET_ITEMREV_ATTACH(P_ORGANIZATION_ID IN NUMBER,
P_INVENTORY_ITEM_ID IN NUMBER,
P_REVISION IN VARCHAR2,
X_DRAWING OUT BLOB) RETURN VARCHAR2 IS
RESULT VARCHAR2(1);
BEGIN
RESULT := 'T';
BEGIN
SELECT L.FILE_DATA
INTO X_DRAWING
FROM FND_ATTACHED_DOCUMENTS AD,
MTL_ITEM_REVISIONS_B IR,
FND_DOCUMENTS_TL D,
FND_LOBS L
WHERE AD.ENTITY_NAME = 'MTL_ITEM_REVISIONS' AND
AD.PK1_VALUE = IR.ORGANIZATION_ID AND
AD.PK2_VALUE = IR.INVENTORY_ITEM_ID AND
AD.PK3_VALUE = IR.REVISION_ID AND
AD.CATEGORY_ID = 1001216 AND
D.DOCUMENT_ID = AD.DOCUMENT_ID AND
D.LANGUAGE = 'US' AND
L.FILE_ID = D.MEDIA_ID AND
IR.ORGANIZATION_ID = P_ORGANIZATION_ID AND
IR.INVENTORY_ITEM_ID = P_INVENTORY_ITEM_ID AND
IR.REVISION = P_REVISION;
EXCEPTION
WHEN OTHERS THEN
RESULT := 'N';
END;
RETURN(RESULT);
END GET_ITEMREV_ATTACH;
Here's the VB code I'm using to call the function:
Private Sub Command8_Click()
Dim CMD As New ADODB.Command
Dim conn As ADODB.Connection
Dim Param1 As ADODB.Parameter
Dim Param2 As ADODB.Parameter
Dim Param3 As ADODB.Parameter
Dim ParamBlob As ADODB.Parameter
Dim ParamReturn As ADODB.Parameter
Set conn = New ADODB.Connection
With conn
.ConnectionString = "Driver={Oracle in OraHome92};Dbq=OAPLY;UID=***;PWD=*******"
.CursorLocation = adUseClient
.Open
End With
Set CMD = New ADODB.Command
Set CMD.ActiveConnection = conn
CMD.CommandText = "immi_attach_pub.get_itemrev_attach"
CMD.CommandType = adCmdStoredProc
Set ParamReturn = CMD.CreateParameter("RESULT", adVarChar, adParamReturnValue, 1)
CMD.Parameters.Append ParamReturn
Set Param1 = CMD.CreateParameter("P_ORGANIZATION_ID", adInteger, adParamInput, 1, 6)
CMD.Parameters.Append Param1
Set Param2 = CMD.CreateParameter("P_INVENTORY_ITEM_ID", adInteger, adParamInput, 4, 5207)
CMD.Parameters.Append Param2
Set Param3 = CMD.CreateParameter("P_REVISION", adVarChar, adParamInput, 2, "04")
CMD.Parameters.Append Param3
Set ParamBlob = CMD.CreateParameter("X_DRAWING", adLongVarBinary, adParamOutput, 200000)
CMD.Parameters.Append ParamBlob
CMD.Execute , , adExecuteNoRecords *** this is where the error occurs
conn.Close
MsgBox CMD.Parameters("RESULT")
End Sub
I've tried using different data types for the varchar2 parameters (adVarChar, adBSTR, adChar) with no difference.
If I pass a bogus value for Param3...."'04'"...the function returns "N" indicating that it actually executed something. But, when I pass the correct value "04", it returns the above mentioned error.
I can execute the function in PL/SQL just fine, so I'm thinking there's something wrong with the parameters, datatype, or other definitions on the Access side.
Does anyone have any thoughts? I'm at a dead end with this. Sorry for the long post. Thank you.I tried your code with 11107 ODBC/client/database (but with a NULL output blob for convenience sake) and got no errors.
If you're using 92 ODBC/client, you may want to try upgrading to something more current, or at least getting the latest patch(9208) to see if that helps. Since it works for me I'm guessing it may be a resolved bug in that version.
Hope it helps,

Calling oracle function from Access passthrough query does not return list
Thanks to the help I received in an earlier post I've created an oracle 10g function that returns a list after executing the sql it contains. It works in oracle, using sql developer.
I need to have the list that it returns show up in MS Access via a passthrough query. It's not working so far. The connection string etc is ok, I'm able to use passthrough queries to run sql strings successfully. But when I try to call the function via the Access passthrough query at first nothing seems to happen (ie no list appears) and if I try to run it again, there is a odbc error 'call in progress. Current operation canceled'. There are only the three records in the table. I'm missing something, can anyone spot it?
The passthrough query looks like this
select * from fn_testvalues from dual
Again that runs in oracle.
To create the testing table and 2 functions see below.
CREATE TABLE t_values (MyValue varchar2(10));
Table created
INSERT INTO t_values (
SELECT 'Merced' c1 FROM dual UNION ALL
SELECT 'Pixie' FROM dual UNION ALL
SELECT '452' FROM dual);
3 rows inserted
CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION fn_isnum(p_val VARCHAR2) RETURN NUMBER IS
n_val NUMBER;
BEGIN
n_val := to_number(p_val);
RETURN 1;
EXCEPTION
WHEN OTHERS THEN
RETURN 0;
END;
Function created
testing the table:
SELECT val, fn_isnum(MyValue ) isnum
FROM t_values;
VAL ISNUM
Merced 0
Pixie 0
452 1
Now the function that is called in the passthrough query:
create or replace function fn_testvalues
return sys_refcursor is
rc sys_refcursor;
begin
open rc for
Select t_values.*, fn_isnum(MyValue) IsNum from t_values;
return(rc);
end fn_testvalues;lecaro wrote:
OK. But obviously there is some oracle object that one can call via an Access pass-through query which returns rows?Just to clarify. You could fetch data in Access from an Oracle function that returns a ref cursor using VBA editor. To use a pass-through query Oracle function should be a table function or pipelined table function:
CREATE OR REPLACE
TYPE testvalues_obj_type
AS OBJECT(
val varchar2(10),
isnum number
CREATE OR REPLACE
TYPE testvalues_tbl_type
AS TABLE OF testvalues_obj_type
CREATE OR REPLACE
FUNCTION fn_testvalues
RETURN testvalues_tbl_type
PIPELINED
IS
CURSOR testvalues_cur
IS
SELECT testvalues_obj_type(MyValue,fn_isnum(MyValue)) testvalues_obj
FROM t_values;
BEGIN
FOR v_rec IN testvalues_cur LOOP
PIPE ROW(v_rec.testvalues_obj);
END LOOP;
RETURN;
END;
/To test it in Oracle:
SELECT *
FROM TABLE(fn_testvalues)
VAL ISNUM
Merced 0
Pixie 0
452 1
SQL> Now in Access pass-trough query window enter:
SELECT *
FROM TABLE(fn_testvalues);SY. -
Calling oracle function from access
does anyone know if it s possible to call a oracle pl/sql function from access ?
thx in advance
AndreAs long as you do not need a return value from the procedure, you can call it from Access.
Create a QueryDef object as a sql pass through query. Make sure that you set the ReturnsRecords property of the QueryDef to false. Set the SQL property of the QueryDef to the correct syntax to execute your procedure, then call the Execute method of the QueryDef object. -

How to access the ORACLE APPS table structures from SAP
Hi Experts,
How to access the ORACLE APPS table structures from SAP? Is it possible from SAP?
Thanks in advance
ThomasHi Silviya,
you can access this database using a technique called DB Multiconnect - sometimes written as multi-connect.
Search the SAP documentation and notes for this term and you will find how to do it.
Essentially you configure the remote database connection via transaction DBCON.
If your SAP system is not running on Oracle you will need to install the db-specific kernel files for Oracle along with the Oracel db client software - SQL*Net.
Then you can access the Oracle database from ABAP using native-SQL. It works a treat!

Accessing Array of Structures from Coldfusion
I am having a problem accessing an array of structures from
Coldfusion within my flex application. Here is how I make my Array:
(GetRegions is a type Query and Type is a string variable)
<cfset ReturnArray = ArrayNew(1)>
<cfset ReturnArray[1] = StructNew()>
<cfset ReturnArray[1].Query = GetRegions>
<cfset ReturnArray[2] = Type>
Within flex I am trying to access the results in the
following way:
private function dataHandler(event:ResultEvent):void{
Query_Filter = new ArrayCollection(event.result[0].QUERY as
Array);
myString = event.result[1] as String;
Can anybody help me with this. I want a way to return a query
and a string back from coldfusion.
Thanks for the help,
JeffSo now I changed my code to the following in CF:
<cfset Type = "MyString">
<cfset ReturnArray = ArrayNew(1)>
<cfset ReturnArray[1] = StructNew()>
<!--- set up query GetRegions --->
<cfset ReturnArray[1] = GetRegions>
<cfset ReturnArray[2] = Type>
<!--- Return Array --->
<cfreturn ReturnArray>
Now in flex I have the following dataHandler Function:
Alert.show("hello: "+ObjectUtil.toString(event.result[0]));
Query_Filter = new ArrayCollection(event.result as Array);
Now I set up a List box with Query_Filter as the dataprovider
but the results aren't showing correctly. The first item in the
list box is displayed as [object, Object], [object, Object] and the
second item is my String.
Does anybody know how to break up the query to a variable and
the string to its own variable in the dataHandler function.
Thanks for any and all help -
Migrating from Access to Oracle
Hello......
I am trying to migrate a table from Access to Oracle. It contains approx 850,000 rows, and I tried using SQL Server's DTS Import/Export tool to perform the migration. However, this export/import has been running for almost 48 hours (crazy, huh?!), and I'm only at 350,000 records loaded. This tool is obviously not sufficient for a migration of this size.
Can anyone suggest a better way for me to go about this?
Thanks,
-ChristineHi,
If you have DDL structures in Oracle, then you can save the access data as .csv file format. you using any opensource tool you can migrate it.
Or you can go for sql loader also.

put movies in itunes on one computer why does it not show up when i access itunes from other computers or ipad2?
i just purchased a file that had videos in it. i put them in the itunes library on my pc where i first downloaded them. i was able to transfer them to my other pc, a laptop, through my home network. i am now trying to get them on my mac pro desktop and my ipad2. my mac pro can see the other computers on my home network but i cannot get it to connect to them. i know the operating systems are different but was hoping i could transfer pictures and files from pc to mac this way. haven't been able to get it to work yet. the videos i am trying to get my mac to see came in a folder with both mac and pc versions. i thought if i got the videos i purchased into itunes that i would then be able to get them to my mac pro and my ipad2. i am new to mac/apple and have always been pc-centric so trying to marry it all has been difficult. i speak pc pretty well but am just learning apple. am i trying to do things that are not possible? i sure could use a knowledgable friendly soul to walk me through my issues of having pc and mac on the same network. i have been able to get all computers and ipad to print on my network. thanks.

Cannot load Java plug-in and access R12 Oracle form from client
Hi, one of my user cannot open Oracle form when accessing R12 environment using IE6. After selecting responsibility and menu, it got stuck after 50% processing when trying to load Java applet. It never got completed even after waiting for 2-3 hours.
Is there any browser setting that needs to be modified? I checked popup blocker and activeX setting. All seem to be in order. Kindly assist. Thanks.Hi,
What is the difference between this client and other clients?
Delete the browser cache/history files and check then. If this does not help, enable trace for JRE (as per Note: 549423.1 - How to enable tracing and logging for Sun JRE (Native Plug-in)) and see if it shows any errors when you encounter this issue.

Import/Export from Access MDB to Oracle DB
Dear Friends,
I need to import a huge table from access to Oracle. I tried to export the file from MS Access to Oracle, it is giving error. I tried another way of doing , i first exported the data to SQL server and then using Export/Import utility of SQL Server, it has imported succesfully. I am not sure which is the best way to import data from ACCESS to Oracle.
Kindly suggest,
Regards,
VinayAnother approach you might try goes something like this:

Connecting from Oracle to MS Access
Hi,
I've had a good search through the various topics on establishing a connection between Oracle and MS Access and have found that most center around Access initiating the connection (linked tables and the like).
What I'd like to do is initiate the connection from Oracle.
Some background:
we are running Oracle 9.2.0.2 on an HP/UX 11 OS, and have a series of MS Access 2000 Databases that have identical schemas, but with totally different data content and different names (naming convention is datestamp of when Db was created).
I would like to initiate a connection from within oracle to 'pull' the data from the Access DB's, and append the respective tables together into one lager table in oracle.
Is there any way of doing this? Are there connection drivers that will allow oracle to create an ODBC connection to Access? and if so what must be loaded/configured within oracle on the Unix box to achieve this in an automated fashion?
Any help most appreciated.
Cheers,
JamesYou can do this sort of thing if you install Oracle Heterogenous Services. That lets you create a database link from an Oracle database to a non-Oracle database and issue SQL statements against the data in the non-Oracle database.

Hi netters, I've been trying to install a GC Release 2 over a Red Hat 4 without bad results. I've passed all the prerequisites (except for the packages one, i think there's a mislead on some package names names, so i marked "user verified"). Well, wh
