  • Problem in importing data from shape file to Oracle Spatial

The following error is being displayed
    symbol : constructor ShapefileReaderJGeom(java.lang.String)
    location: class oracle.spatial.util.ShapefileReaderJGeom
Though i have downloaded latest Spatial Java class library (sdo_java_040319.zip) file and properly set sdoapi.jar and sdoutl.jar in the classpath.
How can i get rid of this problem. Is it because i am still using old spatial java library for some other programs.

    Hi,
Did you follow the instructions in the readme? Are you using Oracle10g?
    Thanks,

  • Import a shape file to oracle spatial format within an oracle pl/sql proced

    hi,
My task is to import an esri sde shape file to oracle sdo format within pl/sql procedure.
i am using oracle 10g, arcgis 9 and arcsdo, geometry type is line, please anyone could help how can i achieve this task, would be very thankful
    Best Regards,

There are no "in database" tools around that do this AFAIK. Most/all tools are external to the database and have to be invoked externally.
If you created an external "batch file" that did the right processing, you would still have to work out how to execute this batch file from within Oracle. AFAIK the standard method is to use create custom code that uses DBMS_PIPE to communicate with the operating system to execute the batch file. DBAs hate this approach and it does require programming.
The other method could be to write a trivial piece of Java that when passed the full path to the batch file executes the file. You would then load the compiled Java class into the Oracle JVM and then create a simple PL/SQL wrapper around it. I can't do it at the moment, but can come back with the code and instructions later on in the week.
    <SHAMELESS PLUG>
As an aside (it seems appropriate to mention this now), I have been developing tools that do run inside the Oracle JVM an can export Oracle data (including sdo_geometry) to a number of formats:
    * xSV (ie comma separated, tab separated, any other single character)
    * Excel Spreadsheet
    * ESRI Shapefile (including the writing of the PRJ file using a user supplied PRJ string and also I write a MapInfo TAB file to "wrap" the shapefile).
When exporting to xSV or Excel Spreadsheet one can chose to encode the SDO_GEOMETRY data as GML or WKT.
(I am working on a KML exporter as well.)
However, note that these tools EXPORT data and do not IMPORT data.
The tools, currently are running in production at a customer site (tabbed shapefile export option) and work well. Export jobs are defined and given to the Oracle JOB or SCHEDULER and correctly run at the appropriate time writing the data to an operating system directory defined internally (with appropriate permissions) as an Oracle Directory object.
I am now considering selling the exporter tool and am looking for testers. (The pricing of these tools will be exceedingly low.)
    </SHAMELESS PLUG>
Now, while I hadn't planned to write any importer for a shapefile for my Exporter, I might consider it if you get stuck and can't find a satisfactory tool.
    regards
    Simon

  • Conversion of .dgn file to .shp files for spatial data processing

    Hi All,
Presently I am working oracle spatial database (10gR2). I have following task:
Task: Spatial data loading into oracle database 10g Release 2:
Task process description: Client has given the input file as with .dgn extension. So we have to convert that to .shp file and load to spatial database.
There is utility in OTN site for loading data .shp file data into spatial database. This we can able to do.
Now I am looking for how to convert the .dgn file to .shp file? I mean, if there is any tool for it or any commands to do this in specific environment.
    Any help would appreciate.
    Thanks,
    [email protected]

    Hi,
There are several ways to do this.
Get a general GIS format translator. I use FME. This can be obtained from SAFE at safe.com. There is a free 30 day evaluation.
Get GIS software which has a data translation facility. Take your pick of the systems.
Write some code to read the DGN into Oracle. The DGN format can be found at http://www.bentley.com/en-US/Products/MicroStation/OpenDGN/. You need to know the version of DGN.
Ask your client to supply data in SHP format.

  • Can Oracle Spatial read shape files?

    Hi,
I need to read some shape files into Oracle spatial and was wondering how (or indeed if) there is a way of doing this. I don't know much about the shape files, except that they can be used with ARCView. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Steve

    Steve,
    I've done this 4 ways:
    1. If you have ArcGIS 8.1, you can use ESRI's shp2sde which can create spatial tables containing SDO_GEOMETRY objects.
    2. If you have GeoMedia Pro 4.0, you can convert shape files to Oracle Spatial tables containing SDO_GEOMETRY objects either with a direct write or you can generate scripts.
    3. FME Universal Translator by Safe Software (www.safe.com) can translate shape files to Oracle Spatial tables containing SDO_GEOMETRY objects.
    4. Oracle's shp2sdo utility can also translate them, but there is added cleanup. You have to then migrate your table to 8.1.7.
    Hope that helps.

  • Uploading bulk data in oracle spatial

    Hi,
I need to upload a map data in (input is ESRI File geodatabase) in Oracle Spatial using ArcSDE.
I have Oracle spatial 10g, ArcGIS desktop 9.3. I am able to connect the oracle spatial data using arcsde and i am able to view those maps in arcmap. Also, i am able to upload small esri shape files in oracle spatial using esri arccatalog through arcsde.
I would like to know, the steps to be followed to upload a road network for North america (around 15gb) data as SDO. If there is any document available it will be more useful for me.
Or pls. share your experience in this.
    Thanks,
    Vadivelan. P

    Yikes,
You won't require 150 gig of undo to load your data with ESRI tools. Noel might need to start a new thread to discuss that issue as his bulk loader may need some tuning. :p
All ESRI bulk loaders use a rather modest auto-commit. ArcCatalog is 1000 records and sdeimport is 2000 records by default. So after loading that many records the tool does a commit and thus avoids much undo at all. You can easily change this number to tune performance (higher for point data, lower for huge honkin' polygons) in the parameters.
At this point I would say the heck with all these torpedoes and give your load a try. You stated in the very first thread that you have loaded shapefiles successfully into Oracle Spatial so the assumption is you have your dbtune keywords setup and are all set with the issues of mapping ESRI coordinate systems into Oracle Spatial. So full steam ahead! Another idea would be to load a small subset of the data and make sure its correct to your needs before doing the whole thing. My opinion is I don't think you need to worry about the 15 gig size of the load. Yes it will take some time to do but I would bet whatever problems you run into are the same you would face with a 15 meg load.
    Cheers and good luck,
    Paul

Thanks for the advice but i already did that kind of research. I found some documentation but nothing from Oracle.
Im working for a company that is a "Certified Advantage Partner" (OPN PIN: 147582435711). Can i have acces to some Training Documentation on Oracle Spatial or to some Oracle spatial training from Oracle University?
Im sure that Oracle has some PPT files on Oracle Spatial.

  • How to load spatial data from .shp file

Could anyone suggest an easy to use, free tool to upload spatial data from .shp file (or/and other open source spatial file sources) into an Oracle Locator database?
We have licensing for ArcGIS10, but nobody (including ArcGIS) have been able to successfully create a direct connection from their software to our Oracle 10.2 database.
Client desktops here are Windows 7 64bit, which further complicates matters (tend to find neither ArcGIS nor Oracle support 64bit OS in a cogent fashion)

    790951,
. . . .You can also try Oracle's ShapeFile Converter (shp2sdo). It's a command line utility so there's automation potential.
. . . .Note that ESRI's tools may (depending on how they're used) store spatial content in Oracle Spatial as BLOBs containing their ST_GEOMETRY data-type (rather than Oracle's SDO_GEOMETRY type).

    Noel

  • Import Bently DGN Files into a oracle spatial 8.1.7-- ERRORS

    Hy
I work with Oracle spatial 8.1.7, MapX, VB6 and Win2k.
My Problem: I get a DGN File. When I translate this file into a MapInfo File(s), it works fine.
Now I must have this data in a oracle spatial. On this part the problems start.
I can only inport the geometry and no charakters strings into the DB.
The Textlayers on the mapinfo file are converted th polygons (from DGN to MapInfo TAB).
If I move these file to the oracle, the text Layers are empty. If I look into the MapInfo Layer, which could have the text, the visible table (on MapInfo) is empy.
It is posible to transform the DGN to a other way (with FME). Then I have a smaler number of MapInfo files with text informations in the table(MapInfotable).
Because it is not posible to load this file into the oracle.
I get the errormessage, that the first row is Zero.....
    What can I do???
Is the DGN FIle corrupt??? Have I a'n error on my Oracle???
    Please help me

  • Importing .shp files

I'm using map builder to import .shp files. I want to know, if i've each layer as a separate .shp file, should i import each file in a separate table?, then how can i preview the whole map with its labels.
Another question, when i duplicate a style or a theme from one database to another, i got the new copy with a '?' in its definition, what's the problem
execuse me for my questions but i'm new to Oracle spatial. thanks

    Hi,
in most cases each .shp file should be imported into a new table. However if you select an existing target table, you will have the option to append the new records.
In Map Builder you can have a quick preview from original tables, or you can preview MapViewer themes where you can use better style definitions. On the Help there is a section about previewing data. For example on the bottom tree (Spatial Tables -> Geometry Tables), select a table, then right click the mouse to bring the popup menu. Select Preview. To preview the geometry column plus label, check the label box and select the label column.
The definitions in MapViewer are in XML. The '?' is part of a XML definition.

  • Oracle Lite & Oracle Spatial

    Hello,
Is Orcale Lite compatbile with Oracle Spatial>
(ie: Can the mobile client do spatial queries on its client side DB?)
    Thanks,
    Brian Hudson

    Hey,
    Thanks for the response.
Here is a more specific example of what I would like to do:
LetÂ’s take a shape file that contains the polys for all buildings in a given county.
And I have a shape file that contains a single poly; some of the buildings are contained within this poly.
I convert these shp's to sdo and put them on the main Oracle DB.
My mobile client then syncs with the main Oracle DB.
I take my mobile client offline (so no more interaction with the server can occur at this point).
Can I at this point, query the DB to see which buildings are contained within the poly?
Can the mobile client also add new spatial data to its database (that would later sync back up with the main Oracle DB)?
    Thanks for the help,
    Brian Hudson

Increasing this value beyond the 25 mile default may generate more
accurate routes using local roads but can also decrease the Routers
performance by increasing size of the soluion set to be searched.
Decreasing this value, the minimum allowed value is 10, can increase
Router performance by decreasing the size of the solution set to be
searched. However, this may cause the Router to abandon viable local
routes and produce nonoptimal short routes.
