Side Bar Folder Disappears

I have a folder that I keep putting in my sidebar... and it keeps disappearing. There's nothing special about this folder; it's just work stuff that I have sitting in my home directory. I've tried renaming it and changing where in the position of the sidebar I've put it. It stays there for a few days and then it just goes away. Nothing else seems to disappear like this. Only this one folder. I've found nothing on the internet to help me with this either. I'm just stumped.
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Serial # W8608****

I have been having this problem (MBP rev A). Same symptons, add a folder and then a couple of days later, it disappears from the sidebar. Can't figure it out what is happening. I have trashed both of the plist files, reset the sidebar (with Onyx). Nothing seems to work here. I haven't tried to make a new account, but don't really want to either.
Any other ideas out there?
TIA

  • New side bar folder, How?

Hi to all, I'm very happy that i have set up my personal mail accounts on mail. my question, is there a way i could create a rule for senders that automatically goes to a certain folder in the side bar?
    Thanks to all.

Sure! Just go to Mail's preferences and click Rules. Create a new rule, and set it so that messages from a particular sender (or senders) are moved to the desired folder. To create folders, just click the + at the bottom left corner of the Mail window and choose New Mailbox.

  • Finder's Side bar (lateral bar) disappeared

Hi, hope someone can help me out. I have the most recent version of Tiger and all my updates have been made. About a week ago, I realized that when I open my finder window, I don't see the side bar anymore. I can go in Finder's preferences and try to play with all the different options but no changes. I can only change the folder that will be selected when I open the window but nothing that helps me with the side bar. Anyone can tell me how to activate the side bar? Thanks for the help.

Hi Samuel, have you tried clicking on the oval button at the top right of your Finder window?
If that not it, navigate to ~(yourHome)/Library/Preferences and trash these two files:
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then log out and back in again. Or restart.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)
    Let us know.

  • How do I select photos in library from the side bar (source) folder?

I have placed photos from the library at different times in a side (source) folder. I now want to delete them. However, they are spread all over the library. If I delete them from the side folder they still remain in library. Is there a way to identify the library photos from the side folder, select and delete them in an easy way, rather than spend hours trying to find them individually?
    Thanks, Max

    Hi MaxFS,
To delete photos from both an album and the Library
    at the same time:
Select the photo/photos in the album
    press the Command-Option-Delete keys
this will remove the photo/photos from the library
and all albums it is in.
thanks, very simple, it does the trick. BTW, will the same action work in iTunes?

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

I'm running Safari (2.0.4 419.3) and suddenly (the past week or so) my "Customize Address Bar" menu item has disappeared and has been replaced with a laundry list of menu items. Somehow I think I caused this, but really I just want to fix it and get the Customize Address Bar item back.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

Hi ya Ron, you are most welcome; )
    It used to work, really.
    Due to your first post, how do you think you altered it, she asks again;
    alright you need not say;~))
Try running disk permission repair, to do so.
    First, "Quit" all Applications.
Go to your Applications folder, see the Utilities folder, click on that
    Now find the Disk Utility.
Double click to launch Disk Utility
Your HD will show up in the left side bar. Click on your HD.
Once you click on it, you will see the toolbar, click on "First Aid" tab
Click on button "Disk permissions repair". also on the left side of the
    window, run repair not verify.
Now do a restart, when it has rebooted, restart once more.
This fixes a lot of problems, I hope it will fix this one for you.
If you already know how to, sorry just can to be clear.
as an aside to make a √, hold the option key down √ and click the v key
Please let me know if the perm run helps any, <fingers crossed>I hope so.

  • I'm wanting to use the "Actions" in Photoshop Elements 11.  But when I get the Actions box up, it is only showing a small list of effects to use.  And no side bar to go any further.  When I click on the little arrow at top and then click on "load actions"

I'm wanting to use the "Actions" in Photoshop Elements 11. But when I get the actions box up, it is only showing a small list of effects to use. And no side bar. So I can't go any further.  When I click on the little arrow at top and click on "load actions", I am only getting a box with empty space saying "No items match your search".  The folder at the top does say "Actions".  How do I get more effects?  The tutorials that I've checked into all show a long list of effects in their box.  Can anyone help?

To use the existing actions, try the following:
    1. Open one of the Action Sets, in this example Special Effects is the Action Set, by pressing the small arrow beside the set name.
    2. Then click on the name of the Action, in this example Faded Ink is the Action name.
    3. Then press the Play button to run the action.

  • "All my files" has gone missing from side bar, can't get it back

    Hi,
I have deleted the "All my files" (in Dutch: "Al mijn bestanden") link from the sidebar by accident. It is no longer available and I cannot get it back by going to the Finder Preferences. As you can see from the picture it is missing in the Finder Side bar, but in Preferences it still is checked. Moreover, it is also no longer available from the "Go"-Menu (in Dutch: "Ga"), SHIFT-CMD-F is grey.
If I uncheck "All my files" in Preferences it automatically checks it again, but it does not reappear.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get it back? I only want to do a Lion restore factory settings as a last resort. Thanks.

When you restarted with the shift key held down, did the start up sequence look different from normal or just the same as usual?
If it looked the same as usual, try it again. See here for how to do a safe boot if you're not sure:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455
If you are sure you started safe mode correctly, and 'All my files' is still not showing, you should restart the computer holding down  'command-r' and choose 'Reinstall OS X Lion' from the window. This should not affect any of your personal folders or apps, but please do backup your system before doing this in case anything goes wrong.
If you are sure you started safe mode correctly, and the problem was solved while in safe mode, restart your computer normally. If the problem reappears, go to
 > System Preferences... Login Items
Make a note of the programs listed in the window. Select all and click the minus '-' button at the bottom of the window. Restart your computer. You should find the problem solved. Now add each one of those programs back to the Login Items list one at a time, restarting after adding each one. After each restart, check 'All my files'. If when you find it disappears, go back to Login Items and remove the last program you added. That's the culprit.

  • Change font size in side bar

How do I change the font size for the side bar? I can change icon sizes and font sizes for desktop and folder items, but I do not see where the setting is for the side bar.
    Thanks in advance

A few people mention seeing a sidebar option in Tiger but nowhere in 20 minutes web searching could I find anybody saying where they could do this in Tiger (and usually that kind of tip is very quickly found on many websites). They just bemoan missing this in Leopard. Maybe they remember an even earlier incarnation of OSX, or it may involve a pretty serious hack of the system.
    http://www.straitmac.com/jforum/posts/list/502.page
I looked at preference lists for Finder and com.apple.sidebarlists.plist and nowhere does it list sidebar font preferences.
Good luck searching, and report back if you do find it.

  • How can I have the side bar in iTunes 12??

I just installed iTunes 12 that was claimed to provide "a more pleasant interface for navigation"!?!?
Personally, I do not find the new view format pleasant at all. I expected to be allowed to go back to the lateral bar visualization, finding it as a view option. It was quite upsetting finding out that the option disappeared from the menue. Did you have the brilliant idea to remove it, or did you simply hide it somewhere else? (I am definitely too old to play "hide and seek" with visualization options and I really do not have the time either)
Probably, kids like big figures that do not require any reading skill, unfortunately I do not.
I conclusion, how can I have the side bar visible again in iTunes 12???
    Thank you
P.S. Playlists is similar to lateral bar, but not the same, as it is not ONE allowing to navigate music, movies, podacast, but one for each.

The functionality of the sidebar has changed indeed. But what's the problem? Category's of the library have been separated from playlists and moved to one of the top bars. I think it's an improvement for people using iTunes as a media-management tool. In the old version the playlists were at the bottom of the sidebar and if you had all options activated you had to scroll down to find your playlists.
You don't have to do that anymore. Your music library is now aside with the playlists. If you want to activate another categorie you can use the icons in the topbar and still keep the overview on your playlists.
People who use iTunes for syncing iDevices seem less happy with this new presentation. It seems a minor adjustment to me, but others seems to think otherwise.

  • How can I erase burnfolders in the side-bar?

How can I erase burnfolders in the side-bar?
                                                                       W.W.

    You can also try this.
Go to your home folder>Library>Preferences - delete/trash the files labeled "com.apple.finder.plist" and "com.apple.sidebarlists.plist" and then restart your computer.  Empty the trash once you reach the desktop.  The untitled dvd folder & burn icon should now be gone from the Finder sidebar.
In addition to removing preference files, if you don't want to use the sidebar for managing CDs and DVDs you can go to the Finder preferences and uncheck the option to show CDs, DVDs, and iPods in the sidebar to prevent them from appearing there in the first place.

  • The Photo Stream option dissapeared from the left side-bar in iPhoto.

Hello everyone, just to let you all know, I'm new to the world of Mac. As I was setting up Photo Stream in iPhoto, I accidently clicked on the "No Thanks" option instead of clicking on the "Turn on Photo Stream" option. Now the link has disappeared from the side-bar in iPhoto, I am affraid I might have ruined my ability to 'photostream'. Is there anyway I can redo the entire process? Any input will be greatly appreciated. By the way, I enabled photostream in iCloud from system prefences. Will enabaling it in iCloud make Photo Stream work even though it does not appeare in the iphoto side-bar?

  • I have a disk inserted into my MAC that is not showing up in the Finder side bar. How do I eject it?

I have a disk inserted into my MacBook Pro that is not showing up in the Finder side bar. How can I get it "ejected?" (I've checked in system preferences under CDs & DVDs and did not find a solution.)

Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
      1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
left mouse button until the disc ejects.
      2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
      3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
      4. Press COMMAND-E.
      5. If none of the above work try this: Open the Terminal application in
your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:
            /usr/bin/drutil eject
If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into Single-user Mode. At the prompt enter the same command as used above. To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.

  • ITune 11 where is the apps upgrade ?  cannot find on side bar

The iTune 11 is really Shxx !!!  I have the side bar shown up and under Library, it shows Apps, but when hit the "Apps", it just shown the big logo of Apps, and a big button of Apps in the App Store.  When I hit it, then it just led me to the iTunes Store... Can never find the same view as previous version.
Apple is getting so confusing, and I don't know how those people are thinking now.  Why Apple is making things more and more user unfriendly !!!

Found the issue ... Basically, my issue is because I did a laptop swap. Although the disk image is exactly the same, however Itunes just don't recognize as valid, so I need to "Transfer Purchase" from my iPhone back to this new laptop. Once done, everything work as is now!!
Just copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer to new computer.
