SIGBUS in operator new / delete

Hi
My application crashes from time to time with SIGBUS. It is a multi thread application. Here are the last 2 stacks on the thread with SIGBUS

I didn't post the entire stack (eliminated the calls on our code, the lines are irrelevant).
I still consider the corruption of memory as a possible reason, but it looks more and more that the issue is located inside the OS libraries. The both cores are located inside the dbm calls... Any insights on these cores?
Below the machine description
Thx in advance, Radu

OK, I see that dbm_open is NOT mt safe. But please look at the stack, it shows:
[1] dbm_open[...]
[2] dbm_open[...]
[3] operator new[...]
which means the implementation of operator new is calling dbm_*. I didn't implement operators new/delete, they are Solaris implemented.
I agree there are several explanations, including:
1. the stack is wrong - unlikely because the others frames are matching perfectly with my code
2. because of other problems in my code the stack or other parts of memory are corrupted
In this moment I would like to know if Solaris implementation of allocation of memory is USING dbm_* and if so, how it is supposed to work. If not, anybody has any idea why dbx shows me this kind of stack (operator new/delete calling dbm_* methods)...
As I said, the cores I have show this kind of stack over and over again. That's why I am supposing there are chances the problem being somehow related to OS... Obviously I am further collecting them and hope to see something.
Using dbm in an MT program is a source of several of
these errors, which is why I recommend resolving that
issue first.I am not using dbm_* calls anywhere in my code (not directly at least)...
Thx

  • QuickLook and overriden new/delete operator

    Hi at all,
I need your !great! help. Currently I am on the way to write a QuickLook plugin.
To do that, I use a static lib in the project to get certain information of the file.
Everything works fine, except the QuickLook plugin crashs on exit. The new and delete operator are overriden by the external lib.
The problem is, it seems that OSX allocates some internal stuff with the
original new operator and deallocates it with the +new overriden+ delete
    operator which occurs a crash.
Any ideas how to solve that? The overriden new operator is in its own namespace.
    Each help is highly appreciated

No, the library is well tested and not buggy. It simply overrides the new/delete operator
and in some calls the delete operator gets some pointers where the corresponding new operator did
    not allocated the memory.
That sounds like a bug to me.
Apple (or, rather, gcc) is free to do any clever things it wants inside its own new/delete operators. If some library wants to write their own, they don't have to emulate anything that Apple does. The old C malloc still works great. But if you have some pointer to memory that did not come from a valid malloc call, you better not call free on it.
Keep in mind that many open source projects are built and tested only on Linux. Linux is notorious for doing everything in its power to make bad code run. Then, people take this running and tested code and try it on MacOS X and it fails. "But it runs great on Linux!" they proclaim. That is true, but only because malloc never fails on Linux. If your programs runs out of memory on Linux, Linux will kill some other, random program. On MacOS X, malloc may fail and developers need to check for that.

  • Overload operator new in C++ plugins

    Hi,
Does it make sense to overload "operator new" in C++ plugins and have it call the Premiere memory allocation routines?
    Thanks!

    Hi Annabella,
Yes, this could be done, although not necessarily required.  Remember though, when allocating buffers for video frames, to specifically use the PPix Creator Suite in PrSDKPPixCreatorSuite.h.  This will ensure that the created PPixes are stored in the Media Cache.
    Regards,
    Zac

  • Linking with 12.4 beta (using CC -std=c++11, unresolved symbol operator new)

    Hi,
I've got our code compiling with 12.4 beta now, but linking is proving slightly different to 12.3. If I compile with "CC -std=c++11", then I get link errors:
    Undefined                       first referenced
    symbol                             in file
    operator new[](unsigned long)         foo.o
    operator new(unsigned long)           foo.o
These can be resolved by using "-std=c++11" when linking using "CC" (a mixture of .o files and archive .a libraries), but this involves modifying many Makefiles to add this extra flag, which isn't required for the Oracle Studio C++ 12.3 compiler.
Is this expected behaviour? Or shouldn't the compiler figure this out itself when linking?
    Many thanks,
    Jonathan.

As object files created during the compilation contain references to those runtime libraries you definitely
need to link with them in order to satisfy those references. In your case it is allocation functions.
-std=c++11 uses a completely different ABI and a completely different set of runtime libraries compared to the default mode.
CC -std=c++11 knows which libraries to use (and which library/run paths to set up).
CC by default links with different set of libraries and sets up a different set of library/run paths.
Thus you dont have any other options - you need to link with CC -std=c++11.
Say, if you would compile the sources with g++ and then attempted to link it with Studio result would be the same.
    regards,
    __Fedor.

  • How do you copy all podcast information (new/deleted/downloaded) from one computer to another.

I am changing my itunes computer and am trying to move my podcast subscriptions from the old machine to the new one.
I want the new computer to know
    * which podcasts feeds I have subscribed to
    * which podcasts I have deleted
    * which podcasts I currently have downloaded on the old machine, so it can download them on the new machine.
Currently I have only been able to get the feeds transferred.  The trouble with this is that this only automatically downloads the most recent entry - even of the podcasts that I am completely up to date with and have already seen that episode.  And, for the ones where I am not up to date, unless I can transfer the information, I am going to have to go through and manually delete the episodes I've already watched.  (and unfortunately it's not just a case of finding where I'm up to and deleting all previous episodes (some podcasts are out of order, some I want to relisten to) )
Is there any way of doing this?  Old machine has iTunes 8.2, new machine has iTunes 10.2

Thanks - I used the Layer > Duplicate command and it worked great!
P.S. How do you drag and drop a layer? I tried dragging a layer to the other open image, but nothing happened. Do you have to hold down a specific key for this (I'm using Windows)?

  • Is it okay to use C++ new, delete in a plugin these days?

Are C++'s new and delete operators totally kosher, not a time bomb that'll crash for some user two months from now?   The documentation I found says to ask Photoshop for memory through an awkward API, but then all documentation and sample plugin code I've found so far are old.   In years past, I've worked in programming environments where one had to get handles and then get pointers - the old Win32 API comes to mind - but eventually the makers of such environments said to just go ahead and use malloc() and free(), or new and delete, and it was fine.
Maybe it's likewise for the PS CS5 SDK?
I just finished developing a Format plugin for CS5 on 64-bit Mac, using C++.  (No 32-bit, no Microsoft, no older CS[n].)   It works fine, no crashes or complaints so far.   To facilitate processing, it allocates memory and objects using new during handling of formatSelectorReadStart and deletes it during formatSelectorReadFinish.   So it seems okay. But of course "it runs on my machine okay" is not sound reasoning.

Yes, it is ok to use new and delete.
It is recommended to use Photoshop memory routines for *large* memory requests.
Photoshop (via user settings in preferences) and the system have already had a discussion about memory usage and if you go and ask the OS for large amounts of memory you are more likely to run into thrashing and unhappy users. Having said all that, I see you are 64 bit mac! So thrashing is far less of an issue in that world.
We used to over ride new and delete in the SDK examples and that was a BIG mistake. As you cannot guarantee when the over ride occurs and if libraries are using new and delete your over ride and on and on and it is a true mess! Don't do it.

  • I need a new Delete key for my MacBook Pro

My daughter ripped my delete key off my MacBook Pro and I need a new one. Anyone know where to get one from and how much they would be? Thanks!

Do a Google search or call an Apple store or an AASP.  Ask them about the cost.

  • Need to revert to previous non-icloud ical -- new Delete button in Edit window is a problem.

Does anyone know how to revert to a previous version of iCal?
The new 5.0.3 iCal update is giving me huge problems.
When editing events, sometimes a delete button appears in the bottom right corner of the Edit window. Reflexivly, I click the small button, which I don't realize until it's too late, had changed to a 'delete' button. The new event is gone; there is no undo available.
I lost several appointments until I realized what was happening. I have lost new appointment with all the details I'd entered since.
Realize that this is just an opinion, but it is unfathomable why the UI change after all this time. There seems to be no good reason for having a delete button sometimes appear on the edit window.
Another change that is driving me crazy is that the Edit window open and close shortcuts were both command-E. Now, the commands have changed.
Please help! This is driving me crazy. I use iCal dozens of times a day. The new changes are not making me happy.
    Thanks.

    Hi flamechaser,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having some issue's when attempting to scan to the computer.
I do have a few suggestions we can try in the attempt to troubleshoot this issue.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
I have also located a document that deals with communication issues between the computer and printer. Please click on the following link for a Windows Error: 'No HP devices have been detected. HP Solution Center will now close.'
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.
    Thanks for your time.
    Cheers,

  • Change/new/delete highlighting during import process

    Hi everyone,
I intend to use SAP NW MDM to consolidate master data from external sources.
During the import process, I would like to see a highlighting of all new, of all deleted and of all changed records. The reason herefore is the following: before I actually load the imported data into my MDM repository, I want to check the data. Just in case, some corupt data was loaded.
Can I do this in the MDM Import Manager?
    Best regards, Daniel

    hi,
Whenever an imported record is new or changed, a timestamp could be set (which is most likely set already anyway). After importing the data I could run a routine which shows me all records that have not been updated. I could then delete these records or set them as "inactive".
What do you think about this workaround? Is it feasible in MDM?
Yes this is feasible in MDM. Whenever one record is changed / updated by user, the record will be updated along with the timestamp.
you can view this in data manager.
if you want to select some records and mark them as inactive, you have to create a field.
    hope this may help you,
    Regards,
    Srinivas

  • XML forms / news - delete button

In the RenderListItem form, I did included two buttons :
    - edit button to edit the news => work perfectly
    - delete button to delete the news => the problem
When I click on the delete button, I receive the following message :
    XML - Forms
Item /BvD-it SEPNews/Others/0056c04e-7c12-2a10-8185-c74e6f577c75.xml does not exist
    but the file do exist.
When I click on the OK button (at the end of the message), the news is effectively deleted.
So this is functionnaly working, but it comes with a non relevant error message.
    Thank you for your help
    Vincent

    Thank you Matthias,
I did add the buttons to the xml forms, not to use the FlexUI command.
This solution bette fits the layout requirements I've.
Are you sure about your statement that these buttons are no more supported ? Because I did opened an OSS message about the error, and discussion is going on, they never said it was no more supported. (Next step is to connect to our Portal)
I'll keep the Treath updated with the solution provided by SAP.
    Thank you and kind regards
    Vincent

  • Ical will not create new / delete old calendars

On my imac, ical will not create a new calendar (File / New Calendar) and will not delete the calendar (Edit / Delete) that is in there (a custom calendar called 'group 3' that was never used - the default calendars are not in there either).
I tried same on my ibook and it worked as expected.
Back to the imac, I delete the imac application from the applications folder, then did a custom install from my OS X 10.4 disk. Although the install completed successfully, the situation is no different.
    Suggestions? thanks

Solved: Deleted all Key Chain references to the FTP address.

  • Where do I find instructions for simple iCloud operations like deleting photos I've uploaded to iCloud by mistake?

Where can instructions for simple operations in iCloud be found? I uploaded a whole bunch of photos unselectively. I'd like to delete them and start over.

The knowledge base articles for iCloud are a bit scattered.  There's a pretty good help site here: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mmd0558ce3.  Thre's also a support site here with links to articles: http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/.
To answer your specific question, if you want to delete photo stream photos, open your my photo stream album, tap Edit, tap the photos you want to delete, tap Delete.  (Unfortunately, there is no "select all" option.)
