Simple access question

how do i make something like this in access?
in sql server...
update A
set column1 = (
select count(*)
from B
where A.ID = B.ID
when i tried it in access, an error message says:
"must be an updateable query"

This is a standard SQL, why it can't run correct.

  • Migration (import) of simple Access table+screen to Apex is failing

    Hi,
    I have tried Exporting and then migrating an Access application - but have had repeated failures on the import step. These attempts are on the Oracle Application Express environment for evaluating Apex - I have a Workspace allocation (wsmihail1) on the Oracle database ( my schema is DBS1). User id is [email protected]
    Now, I have tried creating a Real simple Access application - 1 simple table & 1 form & 1 comand button !!
    Still crash::
    In APEX Create Migration Project screen / step :::::
    - try to Import db2.sql ....
    KEEP getting ::
    ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
    ERR-1021 Unable to run "function body returning boolean" validation.
    FYI::::
    THE db2.sql file is copied to here:::

    Hi Mike,
    Hopefully I can help to clarify a few things for you. An MS Access application migration essentially involves 3 steps, to be completed in the following order:
    1. Export the database and application information from your MS Access MDB file using the Exporter tool for MS Access. This tool generates two files: an XML file containing the database schema information, and a SQL script containing the application metadata. You've already completed this step.
    2. Migrate the database schema to Oracle. Using Oracle SQL Developer Migration Workbench, load the XML file generated in step 1, to capture & convert the MS Access database objects to Oracle.
    3. Migrate the application to Oracle Application Express. Using Oracle Application Express Application Migrations, create a Migration Project to retrieve the application metadata from the SQL script generated in step 1. The Migration Project should be associated with the Oracle schema containing the migrated database objects (from step 2).
    It sounds like you have carried out steps 1 and 3, but skipped step 2. I would recommend that you do the following:
    * Download the latest release of Oracle SQL Developer, version 1.2.1, from OTN - http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/sql/index.html. It incorporates the Migration Workbench. Review the accompanying documentation from the Help > Table of Contents menu item, specifically the chapter "Migrating Third Party Databases".
    * Create a Migration Repository, which is used by the Migration Workbench during the migration process. In order to do so, you need to create a database user for the Migration Repository. I would recommend reviewing the documentation for further information on this. The section titled "Before You Start Migrating: General Information" will assist you.
    * From the menu bar go to Migration > Capture Microsoft Access Exported XML, where you should browse to the location of the XML file generated by the Exporter tool in step 1. This captures the MS Access database schema information, and create a Captured Model of the information.
    * Right-click on the captured model, and select "Convert to Oracle Model" from its context menu. This creates a converted model, which is a representation of the structure of the destination Oracle database.
    * From the menu bar go to Tools > Preferences, to launch the Preferences dialog. On the Preferences dialog go to Migration > Generation Options, and select the "Least Privilege Schema Migration" and click OK.
    * Right-click on the Converted Model & select "Generate" from its context menu. This will generate the DDL statements to create the migrated database objects. I would recommend that you save the statements as a SQL script.
    * Create a new Oracle connection in Oracle SQL Developer, providing the connection details to the schema associated with your Oracle APEX workspace. Then run the SQL script containing the output from the "Generate" step. This will create the objects in the schema associated with your Oracle APEX workspace.
    * Log in to the Oracle APEX workspace, and I would recommend creating a new Migration Project. You should then be in a position to review the information retrieved from your MS Access application forms & reports.
    I hope this helps. Apologies for the length of the posting, but hopefully the points I've outlined will make the process a little clearer for you.
    Regards,
    Hilary

  • Using broadband routers as simple access points?

    I need a simple Access Point and the WAP610N seems to be sufficient. However, I might like to get simultaneous dula-band capability, and it seems I must go to something like the WRT400N to get the. However, the WRT400N has a broadband connection. Can I simply "not use" the broadband capability, rendering the WRT400B to be, in essence, a simple access point?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thanks! The answer seems really quite simple. Just need to make sure the two routers don't have the same IP address, and that you don't have two DHCP servers active.

  • 4 Simple Flash Questions that Are Stumping Me!

    What is the Frame Rate for Web Animations
    Q1. I am making an animation which will be played on the web. What is the default frame rate (fps) of Flash CS5? And what is the frame rate of for web?
    Q2. My animation needs to be 30 seconds long. So at 15 fps that would mean I need to use 600 frames in Flash?
    How Do I Mask everything so all I see is the Content on the Stage?
    I have a wide image that extends past my movies stage size so when I preview my movie the image is visible. How do I mask out anything that extends past my movies window size? I believe I can create a layer named "mask" and place it above all other layers, but I forget how to make the mask. Any help is appreciated.
    How to Fade a Graphic
    I have a graphic element (some type) and I want it to fade from 0% to 100%. In older versions of Flash I could just select the symbol and then set it's alpha value to 0%, move a few keyframes and then set the alpha to 100%. Voila! but now it doesn't seem to work that way. How can I do this in CS5?

    Ned, it says 24 fps which means there is 24 frames per second so each 24 frames is 1 second.

    1 You can create your character as a movieclip and copy/paste that movieclip from one file to another. 2. One way to create a movieclip is to copy all the frame of the animation's timeline (select them all, right click the selection, choose Copy Frames), then create a new movieclip symbol (Insert -> New Symbol...etc) right click on its only keyframe and chhose Paste Frames.  THat will put all the layers and frames you copied into the movieclip The only way to come close to being certain about the timing of you animation is to use code to keep track of the time, something like getTimer()..  The frame rate that a file plays at is not a reliable means of dictating the time it takes due to a variety of factors which include the amount of content you are trying to process and performance limits of the user's machine.

  • Simple performance question

    Simple performance question. the simplest way possible, assume
    I have a int[][][][][] matrix, and a boolean add. The array is several dimensions long.
    When add is true, I must add a constant value to each element in the array.
    When add is false, I must subtract a constant value to each element in the array.
    Assume this is very hot code, i.e. it is called very often. How expensive is the condition checking? I present the two scenarios.
    private void process(){
    for (int i=0;i<dimension1;i++)
    for (int ii=0;ii<dimension1;ii++)
      for (int iii=0;iii<dimension1;iii++)
        for (int iiii=0;iiii<dimension1;iiii++)
             if (add)
             matrix[i][ii][iii][...]  += constant;
             else
             matrix[i][ii][iii][...]  -= constant;
    private void process(){
      if (add)
    for (int i=0;i<dimension1;i++)
    for (int ii=0;ii<dimension1;ii++)
      for (int iii=0;iii<dimension1;iii++)
        for (int iiii=0;iiii<dimension1;iiii++)
             matrix[i][ii][iii][...]  += constant;
    else
    for (int i=0;i<dimension1;i++)
    for (int ii=0;ii<dimension1;ii++)
      for (int iii=0;iii<dimension1;iii++)
        for (int iiii=0;iiii<dimension1;iiii++)
           matrix[i][ii][iii][...]  -= constant;
    }Is the second scenario worth a significant performance boost? Without understanding how the compilers generates executable code, it seems that in the first case, n^d conditions are checked, whereas in the second, only 1. It is however, less elegant, but I am willing to do it for a significant improvement.

    I guess my real question is, will the compiler optimize the condition check out when it realizes the boolean value will not change through these iterations, and if it does not, is it worth doing that micro optimization?Almost certainly not; the main reason being that
    matrix[i][ii][iii][...]  +/-= constantis liable to take many times longer than the condition check, and you can't avoid it. That said, Mel's suggestion is probably the best.
    but I will follow amickr advice and not worry about it.Good idea. Saves you getting flamed with all the quotes about premature optimization.

  • A few simple Logic questions...please help.

    I have a few probably simple Logic questions, that are nonetheless frustrating me, wondering if someone could help me out.
    1. I run Logic 8, all of the sounds that came with logic seem to work except organ sounds. I can't trigger any organ sounds (MIDI) on Logic, they won't play. I have a Yamaha Motif as my midi controller.
    Any idea why?
    2. I've starting running into a situation where I will record a MIDI track, the notes are recorded but they won't playback. The only track effected is the one that was just recorded. All other midi tracks playback.
    I have to cut the track, usually go out of Logic and back in, re record for it to playback properly. Any idea why this may be happening?
    3. How important is it to update to Logic 9. Are there any disadvantages down the road if I don't upgrade. If I purchase the $200 upgrade, do I get a package of discs and material, or it just a web download.
    Any help is appreciated!

    you titled "simple quick question"...
    .. complicated to answer..
    a) the TermsOfUse of the iTS don't allow any processing of purchased files, these are "copy protected"..
    b) iM has a voice-over function..
    c) iM is a video-edit app.. easy to use... just learn to handle it...
    d) iM allows to "extract" audio (=muting the original audio, adding your own..)
    e) to learn iM, spend some time here: http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/imovie/index.html
    f) use pencil and paper first! WRITE and scribble, what shall happen when in your movie/parody... make a script, draw a storyboard .. THEN launch iM.. in other words: think first, then edit.. iM is just a tool, it does not "create"... Picasso needed a papertowel and half a stencil to create art....
    g) to get comfortable with iM, start with your own, small, short (3min!) project... import some stills, edit them, add a funny voice-over, add sounds, add music... good? make a bigger one...
    h) .. in our Lecture II, we teach you how to import shows from TV, youtube, wherever..

  • Simple query question

    hi all,
    I have a XMLType table with one column - I have presently one row, in my column xmlsitedata I have stored one large xml file.The schema definition is given below:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
    - <xs:schema elementFormDefault="qualified" attributeFormDefault="unqualified" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">
    - <xs:element name="siteList">
    - <xs:complexType>
    - <xs:sequence>
    <xs:element name="site" type="siteType" minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="unbounded" />
    </xs:sequence>
    </xs:complexType>
    </xs:element>
    - <xs:complexType name="siteType">
    - <xs:sequence>
    <xs:element name="nameEn" type="xs:string" />
    <xs:element name="nameFr" type="xs:string" />
    </xs:sequence>
    <xs:attribute name="code" type="xs:string" />
    </xs:complexType>
    </xs:schema>
    I have executed the query below:
    select x.XMLSITEDATA.extract('/siteList/site/nameEn/text()').getCLOBVal() "stName" from wsitelist x;
    and I get all english names of some 200 locations, however, there is 1 row selected and all names show up on one row. How do I split them into 200 or whatever rows?
    Thanks,
    Kowalsky

    Have a look at the answer provided in the following thread.

  • A simple security question

    I'm trying to write a simple self-signed applet that use a jca provider but thi exception "java.security.SecurityPermission putProviderProperty.BC" is thrown. if I use a policy file, it works fine but for a beginner user is not very useful intall a new policy file.
    After this I tried to write a new self-signed applet that read a file and open a ServerSocket on port 21, and it work fine without a new policy file!
    My question is this: why is needed a policy file to add a provider and not to open a ServerSoket or read/write a file???????
    PS
    if u have an idea to resolve my problem without a policy file, tell me pls!!! IT'S URGENT!!

    An applet works out of a so-called sandbox. The security restrictions can be overcome in one of two ways that you have tried:
    1) by the use of a policy file, or
    2) by signing the applet
    So, to answer your question:
    My question is this: why is needed a policy file to add a provider and not to open a ServerSoket or read/write a file???????Since the applet is signed, there is no need for a policy file......if you tried to access the socket without signing the applet, you'll get the security exception!
    ;o)

  • Simple Mail question (couldn't find Mail forum)

    Sorry to ask this on iCal forum, but I saw no forums dedicated specifically for regular Mail.
    This is a simple question as I am a new Mac owner: I am used to using gmail for my email, and like this primarily because, given that it is a web based email application, I can access my email from any computer, anywhere, anytime.
    Given my new Mac, I am interested in switching to the Mail application and was wondering if there is any way to check my email when I am away from my home computer? I think this would work with a mobileme account, but I have not obtained one as of yet.
    Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks...

    Thanks Kosmoe...
    One other question...if I do indeed create a new email account and use the Mail application for it, will I be able to check messages via the internet from any computer or only from my own?
    And, if I want to be able to check from any computer, then it seems like getting a mobile me account would solve the problem, right? I am assuming mobile me email can be accessed from anywhere?
    Sorry to be such a Mac newbie! But so far loving the whole Mac experience!

  • Simple JSP question (newbie)

    Hi all,
    firstly I hope this is the right place to post this question, if not, please accept my apologies,
    I am putting together my first set of JSP pages with Tomcat, and so far everything is going very well, but I am having one small problem.
    I have 1 JSP page at the moment, and that in turn uses 1 JavaBean thing bit of code to do something.
    The problem I am having is passing an integer variable from my JSP page to my JavaBean page, I can't seem to find the right syntax for it. The following code (from the JSP page) will make this ten times clearer...
    <%! int score; %>
    <%! String scoreAsString; %>
    <%
    scoreAsString = request.getParameter("score");
    score = Integer.valueOf(scoreAsString).intValue();
    out.println("Your score of " +score +"was received, thanks very much!");
    %>
    <jsp:useBean id="converter" class="scoreApp.SaveScoreBean"/>
    <jsp:setProperty name="converter" property="scoreToSave" value="${score}" /> As you might see, the problem comes in that last line of code - I want to pass the "score" integer I've received off to the bean, but I don't know the syntax for this. I've tried "value=score", "value="score"", "value="$score"", "value="${score}"" etc. but to no avail.
    You can see this is a super-simple problem :)
    ... but my if it isn't becoming frustrating :)
    Any help at all will be most welcome, and gratefully received.
    Many thanks,
    Peter

    I am learning jsp now. You´re actually at the JSF forum here.
    Now, i am a textfield control on jsp as textField1. You are? Really?
    I have created this control from Palette. in java code i am writing "textbox1." but there is no action, no intellisense while pressing ctrl + space.
    How the control is accessing from java code? Maybe my logic with visual studio .net. but i want to learn jsp logic.Uh, just write code accordingly? You can use h:commandButton/h:commandLink for that.

  • Newbie Database Access Question

    I am familiar with SQL and database access from web programming, but have never done these things from within a Java application. My google searching has been fruitless thus far, so I'd appreciate any references to beginner's guides about how to query databases from a Java app and manipulate the resulting recordsets. Anything on Access db's would be ideal.
    TIA,
    John

    Thanks for the reference. I have a question about this section of the tutorial:
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/jdbc/basics/connecting.html
    Under the section "Loading the Drivers" is the following paragraph:
    Loading the driver or drivers you want to use is very simple and involves just one line of code. If, for example, you want to use the JDBC-ODBC Bridge driver, the following code will load it:
    Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
    Your driver documentation will give you the class name to use. For instance, if the class name is jdbc.DriverXYZ , you would load the driver with the following line of code:
    Class.forName("jdbc.DriverXYZ");My question is: How do I decide which driver I need for connecting to an Access db on a Win XP machine? Is there perhaps another reference which answers these kinds of questions?
    Thanks again,
    John

  • Very simple jstl question

    I for the life of me have not been able to find the answer to this very simple question, googling and looking at various documentation. What is the difference between accessing properties using $ or #? Is there a difference?

  • File access question

    I've written an application that runs on a server and watches a list of directories specified in an .ini file. A thread is executed every few seconds (also specified in the .ini) that checks to see if any files have been copied into any of the directories it is monitoring. If it finds one or more files, it zips them into a .zip file and copies them to an output directory.
    The problem I'm having is people are copying HUGE .eps files into the directories through our company's network. The thread gets executed before the copy is done and a .zip file of the partial .eps file gets created.
    The question is how can java know if a file is currently being written to? My application needs to wait until the file has been fully copied before it tries to zip it up and send it out. How can I achieve this?

    These are all good responses, but I've now tried most of them and I still get sent back to my original problem:
    We're using Windows NT so I don't know if this is the same case for UNIX or other OS'es but when you copy a large file from one machine to another, NT automatically allocates disk space on the target machine for the size of the file AFTER the copying is done.
    So if you were copying a 64 Meg .eps file from one machine to another, as soon as the copying starts the file system reports the file size as 64 Megs not however much has been copied so far. So I don't think filesize checking will help.
    I tried using canWrite() on a file currently being copied to and it returns true so that didn't work either. I'm sure it has something to do with the way NT copies files. It allocates all of the disk space necessary right from the start so Java thinks it is a whole file and can do whatever it wants with it.
    I also tried the rename-and-replace method but still ran into the same problem. NT reported to Java that a complete file was available even though it was a partial file. So then the renaming and deleting took place way before the file was actually done copying.
    I think what I really need is some way to access whether or not the file is currently being used. Just a simple true or false method that will tell me if another application or the file system itself is currently using a file. Then I'll just wait until it is done and then zip it up.
    I read the JavaDoc for the FilePermission class and it reads like Greek to me and I don't think it will be much help. Any ideas?
