Simple z-index layering problem

I'm trying to overlay some text on top of an image. The
stacking order seems to work, but I can't position my text where I
want it–in the white box on the graphic below. It may be a
problem with my positioning attribute, but I'm not sure which one
to use (absolute, relative, inherit etc...) I've tried them all,
and none seem to work. Anyone have any suggestions?
And why does the positioning look fine in the design view in
Dreamweaver?

Thanks

Auggh, just figured it out.  The Polaroid needed to be relative positioning!

  • Indices configuration for XML document analysis (indexing time problems)

    Hi all,
    I'm currently developing a tool for XML Document analysis using XQuery. We have a need to analyse the content of a large CMS dump, so I am adding all documents to a berkeley DB xml to be able to run xqueries against it.
    In my last run I've been running to indexing speed problems, with single documents (typically 10-20 K in size) taking around 20 sec to be added to the database after 6000 documents (I've got around 20000 in total). The time needed for adding docs to the database drops with the number of documents.
    I suspect my index configuration to be the reason for this performance drop. Indeed, I've been very generous with indexes, as we have to analyse the data and don't know the structure in advance.
    Currently my index configuration includes:
    - 2 default indicess: edge-element-presence-none and edge-attribute-presence-none to be able to speed up every possible xquery to analyse data patterns: ex. collection()//table//p[contains(.,'help')]
    - 8 edge-attribute-substring-string indices on attributes we use often (id, value, name, ...)
    - 1 edge-element-substring-string index on the root element of the xml documents to be able to speed up document searches: ex. collection()//page[contains(.,'help')]
    So here my questions:
    - Are there any possible performance optimisations in Database config (not index config)? I only set the following:
    setTransactional(false);
    envConf.setCacheSize(1024*64);
    envConf.setCacheMax(1024*256);
    - How can I test various index configuration on the fly? Are there any db tools that allow to set/remove indexes?
    - Is my index config suspect? ;-)
    Greetings,
    Nils

    Hi Nils,
    The edge-element-substring-string index on the document element is almost certainly the cause of the slow document inserts - that's really not a good idea. Substring indexes are used to optimize "=", contains(), starts-with() and ends-with() when they are applied to the named element that has the substring index, so I don't think that index will do what you want it to.

    I have an iMac that I purchased back in 2010 and over the past 9 month or less my computer just started shutting down while someone was in the process or working on it.  What could this come from?  Is there a simple solutions to this problem?

    Which model iMac do you have?  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1758 How to identify iMac models
    Which OS is currently installed?
    Check out KB Articles:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379 Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
    If not of the above works and you have AC, call them.  Let them deal w/it.  Otherwise, take your iMac down to your local AS or an AASP.  Diagnostic testing is FREE!

  • Layers problem in PS cs5 extended, all layers change at once, including background layer.

    layers problem in PS cs5 extended, when working in a layer, all layers changes at once i.e size, cropping, smart object etc. even the background layer changes...it is really annoying, please help, My system windows 7 64 bit  4gb ram.  It is not grouped, deleted preferences, usually work in rgb/ 8 bit channel - have same problem with all new projects.

    Hi
    Problem with layers is when I use the crop tool in a layer out of 20, all of them get croped at once including a locked backgound layer.
    When I use smart object in a layer to size down image with transform tool, guess what happens to all the layers in project? all behave odd, changes same as the layer being sized down. If I work images or layers in separate files, once I bring them over to my workspace, all get affected without maintaining their own individuality. This happens with every new project. I think colors are not affecting layers. Layers are not grouped, I do not know anything about linking layers. This problem is stopping me from using photoshop. Please help!!!
    I had previously a problem with a photoshop bug (GPU sniffer), which I was able to resolve it with reintalling the graphics video card with the help of HP technical support, I am able now to work with repousse however with same video card.
    Let me know if you need me to give you more details.
    thanks,

  • Dsee 6.2, idsconfig, vlv index processing problems

    Hey Folks,
    I ran into a problem where the idsconfig script failed on creating 4 vlvindex entries. I had to modify the script to allow me to troubleshoot the problem. I ended up fixing the problem manually, but I'm still not to sure why it happened to begin with. It seems like a race condition, but i could be dead wrong. I thought it might have been the way I answered the idsconfig questions but I went over it quite a bit. This post may be a bit long, but I want to provide enough information.
    - Solaris 10 08/07 fully patched (using smpatch) as of 1/10/2008
    - DSEE 6.2
    - idsconfig that comes bundled with Solaris 10 08/07
    - All this is being done inside a logical domain (ldom) on a T2000 using a file image as a disk
    The first thing I did was make the following modifications to the idsconfig script so it would not exit on error while adding vlv index entries, and also commented out the cleanup process so I could view the temp file created by idsconfig
    Original Code from the add_vlv_indexes() function:
             # Add the index.
             ${EVAL} "${LDAPMODIFY} -a ${LDAP_ARGS} -f ${TMPDIR}/vlv_index_${i} ${VERB}"
             if [ $? -ne 0 ]; then
                 ${ECHO} "  ERROR: Adding VLV index for ${i} failed!"
                 cleanup
                 exit 1
             fiSame code, after my modifications:
             # Add the index.
             ${EVAL} "${LDAPMODIFY} -a ${LDAP_ARGS} -f ${TMPDIR}/vlv_index_${i} ${VERB}"
             if [ $? -ne 0 ]; then
                 ${ECHO} "  ERROR: Adding VLV index for ${i} failed!"
                 #cleanup
                 #exit 1
             fiHere is the full output of the way I used idsconfig to configure the directory:

I have read blogs about others running this script on dsee 6.x successfully, so thinking its a bug doesn't seem right.
    If anyone wants me to test something or provide more info, i'd be happy to.
    Thanks for reading,

    Thanks for the response. Sorry about not including the logs. I should have. I have gathered the full logs during the time idsconfig was trying to add the vlvindex entries. I did see that there where a few err=32 codes on the ADD operations on the entries that I had to add manually.
    Here is one thing I did notice when I was adding the 4 entries manually. In each of the ldif files idsconfig creates, there are 2 entries as in the following example.
    dn: cn=example.edu_passwd_vlv_index,cn=example,cn=ldbm database,cn=plugins,cn=config

    dn: cn=example.edu.getpwent,cn=example.edu_passwd_vlv_index,cn=example,cn=ldbm database,cn=plugins,cn=config

    objectclass: top
    objectclass: vlvIndex After idsconfig was done running the entry with the dn of "dn: cn=example.edu_passwd_vlv_index,cn=example,cn=ldbm database,cn=plugins,cn=config" was created, but the "dn: cn=example.edu.getpwent,cn=example.edu_passwd_vlv_index,cn=example,cn=ldbm" was not created.
    This is weird because according to the logs (if i am reading them right) the add operation for the dn that was actually created seemed like it failed.

  • Z-Index Layers

    HI
    I have a flash movie and I need to cover a portion of it with
    a HTML Layer (specifically using Dreamweaver layers.
    I have tried adjusting the Z-Index, but the Flash movie
    always ends up on top of the layer.
    How do I force Flash NOT to be the top layer?
    Thanks
    Rowby

    Marghoob Sulemaan is right. But only use the transparent
    wmode if you need transparency (like rounded borders or see
    through) as it is more CPU intensive. Otherwise, use the opaque
    wmode if you only want to display layers on top of Flash (check
    adobe.com HTML source on any page with Flash).
    If you still have problems (namely, with IE6), you can put
    the SWF in a container layer, hide it (visibility: hidden) at the
    beginning then show it after a short while (visibility: visible).
    Best regards,
    Karl Sigiscar.

  • Flash Layering Problem in Firefox , Please Help.

    Hi,
    I am having a problem with Firefox and Safari. I am trying to
    place video over an already emdedded flash file. Here is an example
    www.mjmi.com when viewed on IE the layering is fine and you can see
    both flash videos. When you view it in Firefox or safari my video
    with the actors falls to the back of the original flash video.
    I have tried every type of positioning but the video keeps
    falling behind the other one.
    Does anyone have a solution for this? With out having to
    combine the flash files.
    Thanks so much
    here is my code if that is the problem
    <div id="flashAdd" style="position:absolute; left:25px;
    top:98px; z-index:1000">
    <script>myprintln('<OBJECT
    classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" z-index:"0"
    codebase="
    http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=5,0,0,0"
    width="496" height="300">');
    myprintln('<PARAM NAME=movie
    VALUE="<cfoutput>#Request.MainUrl#</cfoutput>video/home_1.swf">');
    myprintln('<PARAM NAME=loop VALUE=false>');
    myprintln('<PARAM NAME=quality VALUE=high>');
    myprintln('<param name="wmode" value="transparent">');
    myprintln('<param name="menu" value="transparent">');
    myprintln('<EMBED
    src="<cfoutput>#Request.MainUrl#</cfoutput>video/home_1.swf"
    loop=false quality=medium bgcolor=#FFFFFF wmode="transparent"
    width="496" height="300" TYPE="application/x-shockwave-flash"
    PLUGINSPAGE="
    http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash">'); myprintln('</EMBED>');
    myprintln('</OBJECT>');</script>
    </div>

    and if you will ask in order that he to put for top with a
    level of the type:
    _root.creatEmptyMovieClip ("my_mc", 5);
    That will do that his application raises 5 levels, I think
    that it can be a solution, if there is doubt look in for help for
    creatEmptyMovieClip ();

  • Centering with layers problem

    I have a problem centering a layer that has an image with
    relative positioning. I've replicated this phenomena with some
    basic code to make it easy to convey:
    I would like to position a layer with an image that is
    horizontally center to the page regardless of the screen
    resolution. I created a div tag called "layer1" with the
    appropriate descriptors below. This "appears" to center the image,
    but when I take my pencil and measure the left and right of the red
    box, it is clear that there are different measurements. When I
    center text just above the centered image, it is immediately
    apparent that the jpeg is not totally in the center. I've tried
    looking at it in 800x600 and higher resolutions, all with the same
    results.
    This is a big deal since the more complicated code where I am
    trying to center the layer with the image offsets images to where
    the entire page looks jumbled.
    I've attached the html code so you can see what I am doing.
    The image is just a red box that I made with GIMP.
    Can anyone see my error?

    > regardless of the screen resolution
    Just so you'll know, this is NOT a resolution issue. It's a
    browser
    viewport width issue. The same page will look the same on
    *any* resolution
    screen as long as the browser viewport is the same width in
    pixels on all
    screens.
    Put a border around your "pseudo-layer" (it's not a layer)
    and you'll see
    that it is in fact completely centered on all browser widths
    on any
    resolution screen.

  • Oracle Text - CTX Context Index Soundex Problem

    Hi,
    I'm running into a problem with Oracle Text when searching using the ! (soundex) option. I've created a simple test example to highlight the issue.
    Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bit
    Windows 2008 Server 64-bit
    create table test_tab (test_col  varchar2(200));
    insert all
      into test_tab (test_col) values ('ab-tönes')
      into test_tab (test_col) values ('ab-tones')
      into test_tab (test_col) values ('abtones')
      into test_tab (test_col) values ('ab tones')
      into test_tab (test_col) values ('ab-tanes')
      select * from dual
    select * from test_tab
    begin
          ctx_ddl.create_preference ('test_lex1', 'basic_lexer');
          ctx_ddl.set_attribute ('test_lex1', 'whitespace', '/\|-_+&''');
          ctx_ddl.set_attribute('test_lex1','base_letter','YES');
          -- ctx_ddl.set_attribute('test_lex1','skipjoins','-');
    end;
    create index test_idx on test_tab (test_col)
      indextype is ctxsys.context
        parameters
          ('lexer        test_lex1'
    select token_text from dr$test_idx$i;
    TOKEN_TEXT
    AB
    ABTONES
    TANES
    TONES
    select * from test_tab where contains (test_col, '!ab tones') > 0;
    TEST_COL
    ab-tönes
    ab-tones
    ab tones
    select * from test_tab where soundex(test_col) = soundex('ab tones');
    TEST_COL
    ab-tönes
    ab-tones
    abtones
    ab tones
    ab-tanes
    So my question is, can anyone suggest an approach whereby I can get the Oracle Text Context index (or CTXCAT index if it's more appropriate) to return all 5 rows like the simple Soundex is doing?
    I can't really use soundex as this search query will form part of a search screen for a multi-language application. Soundex is limited to English sounding words, so I need the solution to be able to compare strings that may not "sound" English.
    It must be an attribute of the BASIC_LEXER, and I've tried skipjoins, start/end-joins, stop lists, but I just cannot get the Soundex feature of Oracle Text to function like the SOUNDEX() function!
    Looking at how the tokens are stored dr$test_idx$i I need Oracle Text to almost concat 'AB' and 'TONES' to search as a single string.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    I am not getting the same problem that you are getting with the umlat, but I don't see what is different.  Please post the result of:
    select ctx_report.create_index_script ('test_idx') from dual;
    Here are the results on my system.  Perhaps you can spot the difference.  I added an empty_stoplist, so that it won't print out a long list of stopwords.

  • After fixing z-index layers lost container color and footer

    You realize that the code you show below is for a Template page, not a child page, right?  And you also realize that your layout method is going to be just a big problem for you because of your use of absolute positioning as a primary layout method, right?  I'm just trying to make sure that you want to push ahead with what I consider a badly flawed approach....

  • Dreamweaver CS3 & Show/Hide Layers Problem

    I'm trying to use Dreamweaver CS3 and the Show/Hide Layers

  • Z-index layering moving images

    Hi,
    I am hoping someone can help me out! Basically I have an application to build that has a frame image (img1) with a transparent centre, an image (img2) within that centre area and another image (img3), the same size as img2, that hides in behind img2.
    When a button is clicked, img2 will move up and reveal img3. When the button is clicked again img2 moves back down and covers over img3 again.
    The problem is to do with the layering of the images. I want img2 to always lay over img3 so that when it is back down img3 is completely hidden. I am able to do all of this up to this point. The problem lies is that when img2 is moving up, I want it to move up in behind the top of the outer frame (img1), but all I can get is the image moving up over the top of the frame and not slotting in behind it.
    I hope I have explained this clearly! Not so easy!
    I tried the WipeUp effect, which was close to what I want, but the image winds up with the top of the image remaining until the last moment before it disappears. I want the image to roll all the way the way a window blind would so that you would always see the bottom of the image until it reached the top.
    Does anyone have any ideas of how to do this?
    Thank you so much in advance!

    Would be great if someone from Adobe was on here yes!
    I will give your suggestion a try later today, but I have a feeling that when I 'move' img2 up it somehow changes it's z-index. I also give the user the option to change the frame to a different style. Even though it stays staic on the screen (has no effects - all I do is change the source of the image), I think that changing the source of it also changes its z-index and brings it to the front.
    Very frustrating. I'll let you know how I get on with your suggestion later - thanks for taking the time in trying to help me.

    Any thoughts, anyone?
    Thanks very much,
    Jim Greetham

    Jim,
    We typically don't support these kind of schema names for Spatial schemas
    as they have to be created with double quotes.
    Like create user "3droads".
    In this case, the schema name is the problem. They should pick a schema name
    they can create without using the double quotes.

  • Z-Index layering in Firefox?

    Hey All...
    Newbie on this board, looking for someone who can help me out with some layering issues I have on this page (there are other pages, but this one will be easy to understand.
    http://www.syrup.doralevich.com/page72.html
    here's my issue.   This page has a lightbox and a cart for adding products to it, they aren't playing nicely in Firefox.   if you click on the image, the picture appears in a lightbox, although behind the Flash show "Syrup" covering up the image.
    If you add an item to the cart (top of page) and then Show Cart, you'll also notice that the cart comes down but again, behind the Flash show "Syrup"
    When using my Mac, it works fine in all 3 browsers.
    I added this piece of code, which made it wokr in IE 7 and 8 on a PC
    <PARAM NAME="wmode" value="opaque" />
    The only browser that I can tell that isn't wokring correctly is Firefox (I'm using 3.5.7).
    Is there any way that this can be fixed?   Here is the code that gives me that effect:
    <center><OBJECT classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=5,0,0,0" WIDTH="550" HEIGHT="160">
    <PARAM NAME=movie VALUE="http://www.syrupclothingny.com/warehouse/Syrup Splash600.swf">
    <PARAM NAME=quality VALUE="high">
    <PARAM NAME="wmode" value="opaque" />
    <EMBED src="http://www.syrupclothingny.com/warehouse/Syrup Splash600.swf" quality="high" WIDTH="550" HEIGHT="160" TYPE="application/x-shockwave-flash" PLUGINSPAGE="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash">
    </EMBED>
    </OBJECT></center>
    And attached is a screenshot showing how it covers up the cart/picture.
    Thank you very much for your help.
    David

    Hi SnakEyez02
    Thank you for your reply.
    After I posted my question yesterday I ran across an article on Adobes site explaining about wmode.
    I realized that my lower div on the pages that displayed wrong all had flash content, and the article says that flash content always display in the top layer regardless of z-index given.
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14201.html
    But if you assign a wmode in parameters of either transparent or opaque you can layer the flash with dhtml. I did this after my post and now the menu displays right in both IE and Firefox!
    So you were looking at the already altered code.
    I will still clean up the things you mentioned. But thank you very much for your quick reply.
    Sincerely,
    G Gaarde

  • Please help, simple requirement using Layers, there must be a solution?!

    Hi, I am using a trial version of Adobe Acrobat X Pro, with a view to purchasing the program for several members of my staff. However, it does not seem to be able to do something fairly simple which I need.. unless someone can help please! I work with maps that come to me as pdfs, and I need to be able to add text items (with arrows) to these maps that are then visible only when certain layers are selected in the new pdf, so that the three sub-contractors I distribute our completed maps to can view either all the text/arrows we have added, or only the info relevant to them if they prefer.
    We've tried saving three maps each with different info on then importing them as three new layers to the original map, but that doesn't give the functionality to interchange views and it's very time-consuming. We've tried using InDesign on trial version but the layers are messy in the exported pdf (adds obsolete layers as a 'feature', the administrator in the InDesign forum said). I've experimented with the pre-flight functions in Acrobat Pro but found them not so user-friendly. Is there a way to select some text items and export them to a tiff with transparent background, then import these as a new layer perhaps? Or please someone tell me I'm being stupid and this was addressed in a simple function since Acrobat v2?!

    Thanks all, I do appreciate these feedbacks, but I am struggling to understand the analogy between a car and iPad. When buying a car in a different location, you are adviced of all the features and then you take a decision if you are okay with it or not. But this was not the case with the iPad. I only found that out after a while being that it is my first iPad. Of course I will not make this same mistake again but I find it challenging that there are no provisions for correct this facetime issues for none residents.
    I assume as you have all continiously stated that I may not make a difference on this as a lone voice but if Apple can consider making it possible for none residents or insisting that this is explicitly mentioned at the point of sales in Duabi for Apple products then it begins to be fair. In the car example, you are at least sure that certain feutures are unavailable and do not realize this after the purchase is done and you are back to your home country.
    I also think saying "Dubai iPad" might not be correct as I always believed I was dealing with Apple product which out to give same level of satisfaction accross the globe....
    I am a frequent traveller and really it would not have been inconveniencing not to buy this iPad when I did as I could have bought it from the UK, US or SA.....but just thought iPad was iPad everywhere.
    Again why do I really have to buy another one? These cost money. And I do not have a shop to sell it as a non-facetime ipad. I would have expected apple center to receive these ipads and replace them or correct them.....
    I am just listing this out incase the Apple team can see some sence in what I am saying. There are a number of ways this current situation would have been avoided for people like me.
    Regards
