Since 10.4.7 update my MacBook powers down!

I am not sure what the deal is but twice now I have woken my MacBook from sleep and started to use it and then it totally shuts down completely!?! After the first time Safari was gone from my dock as well. Has anyone else had this problem?

The System Management Unit in your MacBook is responsible for power management: You should reset it and test.
- If the computer is on, turn it off.
- Disconnect the AC Adapter and remove the computer's battery.
- Press and hold down the power button for 5 seconds and then release the button.
- Reconnect the battery and AC Adapter.
- Press the Power button to restart the computer.
Did you do what Mulder suggested -- downloading and reapplying the 10.4.7 combo update? That's a good suggestion. But there are two other things you can do to troubleshoot the problem instead, if you like.
You can confirm your hardware concerns or (mostly) rule them out by booting from the grey disk that came with your system and holding the D key as it starts up. That will run the Apple Hardware Test diagnostic. Be patient if it's slow to boot and run: Do the Extended test.
Do your wake-from-sleep problems extend to another account? Make a new user account, log out of your account and into the new one. Can you reproduce the problem?

    I have the exact same problem as you do, and my MacBook is being repaired now. Here's what I recommend you do:
    Back up your files (if you have problems starting the coputer up to do the backup, try pressing and holding the power button until you hear a beep). Perform the steps described by guykuo in http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=577462&tstart=45 . If the problem doesn't go away, call Apple. Your computer will probably need its logic board replaced, so be prepared to be without it for a while.

  • Since the IOS 7 update, I can't down size when I'm changing my wallpaper background.  It goes back to the previous size before it will set.  What is wrong?

    I've never had this problem before IOS 7.  My wallpapers don't fit the screen properly and won't resize before saving.  Is this happening to anyone else?  HELP!

    Ok, I just found the solution Thank God
    You see how with the new update the icons move as you tilt the phone to give you that "fancy" 3D look, well because of this the wallpaper gets distorted.
    I turned this option off, and the wallpaper resizing issue went away
    Here is how to turn that dumb 3D option off (which also drains your battery):
    Navigate to the iOS 7 Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> Reduce Motion -> ON
    Yep, that's all.

    Double tap the Home button, then swop upwards on the App Preview (not the App Icon). Tap the Home button again when done to return to normal screen.

    Suggest you try a NVRAM / PRAM reset, as described by Apple:
    Shut down your Mac.
    Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
    Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
    Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

    The startup disk may need repairing ...
    Startup your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys.
    From there you should be able to access the built in utilities to repair the disk and restore OS X using OS X Recovery

  • Macbook, Snow Leopard 10.6.8  Since the last software update Safari 5.1 will not save history.  Prefs. are set correctly, reset has been done, appropriage plist has been trashed, now Saf. 5.1 has been re-installed.  Still dumps history every time

    Prefs. are set correctly, Cache has been dumped, reset done, appropriate .plist trashed, and finally an uninstall and clean install done
    with 5.1.1 download from the Apple support site.
    The problem still exists, making me very suspicious that this is a bug.
    Any solutions?  Let's hear 'em.

    Let me add a little bit of details,
    after the software update, I was asked to restart my laptop,
    while doing it, I got a message error :"some files couldn't be updated".
    Since then, everytime I start my macbook pro, I have the grey apple & screen, with a kind of updating bar (grey as well) at the bottom,
    when the bar reaches approximately 30 to 40%, it disappears & the laptop swiths off.
    Ihave tried to start on a safe mode, it doesn't work either,

    So since the last (recent) update to I think firmware 7.6 my 2 macbook pro's are disconnecting on their own everyday, have to choose the network again, or turn off wifi and turn it back on again (and select the network) - anyone else having this issue? It seems to be affecting only my macbook pros not my iphone, apple tv or ipad.

    Also, the firmware is for Airport Extreme, which I am using.

    I am having the same issue with Media Temple Email.
    My problem in more detail is:
    Adding my Media Temple Hosted domain email to a desktop service on my Macbook Air.
    I have tried this on both Mac Mail and Thunderbird.
    I add the account manually and have checked, double checked, triple checked the server addresss and also the user name and password and they are correct.
    I have altered the ports from being default to custom and have tried both SSL and non SSL and still it is unable to connect to the SMTP server.
    IMAP inbox is working as I recieve mails but can not send them.
    I have chatted to Media Temple and they say it must be something to do with the hardware of the MacBook Air which to start with I disagreed with but I have since tried adding the email to my Mac Mini and it works fine.
    I am assuming their is an issue in the MacBook Air with the SMTP ports and I would really appreciate some advice on how to fix this as I don't want to use Webmail for ever.
