Site Feedback: Categories

After playing around with iWeb for a week, I have put up a draft of an iWeb "blog" design. Each picture represents a category, which is actually a blog page, but before I fill out the rest of the site I wanted to solicit feedback.
http://web.mac.com/jadespace
I tried to do everything "within" iWeb, with the exception of changing fonts to Courier in an XML file for the Archive and Blog page. I also duplicated the White template after editing an Entry page, so that any future entries retain the look and feel.

The 'Site Feedback' link (bottom right corner) is broken.
Not for the TechNet brand.
http://technet.microsoft.com/cc512759.aspx
Oh. The Microsoft brand you mean?
https://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/mailform/contactus.aspx?refurl=http%3a%2f%2fsocial.microsoft.com%2fForums%2fen-US%2fhome%3fforum%3dforumsredesign%252Csuggest%252Creportabug%26filter%3dalltypes%26sort%3dlastpostdesc
I wonder why it is going to Lab.MSDN?
And the MSDN brand apparently doesn't want us to Contact them

  • Iweb site feedback

    Hi everyone,
I am an athletic director at a small school and have been using iweb to create an athletics site (http://web.me.com/mauiprep). Before I go live with the site, I thought I would bounce some ideas/feedback off this group. I am hoping to do all these things while using iweb.
Here are some issues I am dealing with:
    1. Really slow. I am hoping web maestro might help with this somewhat, but I am not holding my breath. Any other thoughts? The page file sizes don't seem too large compared to different websites, yet it still takes a long time.
    2. Same components on all pages. Because the basic structure of the site remains unchanged regardless of what page you are on, is there a way to not have to keep reloading the "static components"?
    3. Page within page. For the various team pages, I have created fake tabs (recent news, schedules, records) that take you to different content pertaining to that team. However, they aren't acting as true tabs because they just take you to a whole brand new page (which takes a long time to load!!). How can keep the tabs within one page?
    Any other thoughts?

I don't know why your first page takes so long to load. There's only 10 files that have to load and the largest is only 79 KB. It does take a ridiculously long time to load. You can see what files are loading by going to the Window->Activity menu option while in the page. That will tell you what files are part of the page and their size. Some background images are taking forever to load.
What theme are you using? The loading time is way beyond normal. I checked some of my sites today and they loaded very quickly. All I can think of, and it's a shotgun approach, is to do a Publish All to MobileMe and see if that won't refresh and speed up the load time. I'm not sure WebMaestro will help all that much as most all of the files are very small to start with. But I've not used it so can't be sure.
2 - no, not with iWeb. With other web deveopement apps you could load a file to a folder and then link to that from all pages it's to be on.
3 - again, not easily with iWeb. You can embed a page within another page but to click on a link and have that page pop up in a section of the page would require a good knowledge of javascript. Maybe Cyclosaurus or Wyodor could give you an idea of how to implement that.

  • Iweb site feedback and friends?

    hi all,
i used to use these forums a lot; however, i stopped that a while ago. I currently have started using iWeb a lot and am looking for feedback on my site and any one that wants to add me as an ichat buddy to bounce ideas and stuff off of. If you are willing to at least give some feedback check out my site at :
    http://www.andrewfosterphotography.net
thanks a lot ahead of time, and feel free to add me to ichat if u want!

  • Problem with viewing web site- feedback needed

I have a friend who had his site redesigned and integrated with Paypal recently.
He is a Windows user and I am a Mac user.
For some reason I am unable to view the blue Buy Now buttons on his site and if i keep trying long enough the browser will suddenly tell me that the site server cannot be found.
I was told by paypal that it was a cookie problem but i completly cleared out everything and it still does not work.
I have tried both IE and Firefox. IE will work for me sometimes, but once the problem begin happening in Firefox then IE stops working also.
I have also tried using my PC and if i use it before the Mac, i can see it fine but if the Mac starts messing things up i will no longer be able to view it on my PC. I called a friend while having this problem and he said he could see it fine on his PC (not Mac).
I am beginning to think that it is a wireless network problem since i have tried everything else i can think of.
Could some of you please view this page and just let me know if you have any problem seeing the two top Buy Now buttons?
Please also let me know what browsers you used...
The BUY NOW buttons in question should be just below the Download buttons...
Please give me some feedback. This will help me decide if it is a local issue or not.
    URL for the page is:
    http://www.butlerofficepro.com/products.html
Thanks, this would be a great help to my diagnosis 8-)

    Works fine here in Safari.
I think you have a Router problem, or a Modem with a Broadcom Chipset in it.

  • Site feedback & help with a bug

    Hello,
We are busy with final testing of a clients site at
    this
    address
Any feedback would be appreciated. Also, we're experiencing a
bug while testing on IE6. Doesn't appear to happen with Firefox.
I can replicate it every time by doing this: enter
site>skip> go to 'go underground' click the link to download
map>go to 'guerrilla marketing'. When I go back to 'Guerrilla
Marketing', the scroller component with the tetris pieces shows up
beyond its visual range. ie it is displaying behind the buttons
etc. when it clearly should not. I have not had any problems with
any of the other scrollers in 'guerrilla headlines' so am a little
confused. I tried on another machine with IE6. Bug appeared
instantly without having to click the download link.
I am a designer and deal with graphics and animation. I'm
afraid when it comes to scripting I'm a bit clueless. If anyone has
any ideas with regard to action script, please post them and I'll
send them on to my business partner, the coding chap. :)

    AAH-chooo!
    Bump.

  • Site feedback/technical issues?

    Hi there!
Well, I just put my site up which I plan to launch in a week officially. Still missing the podcast section which I plan to finish this week, but the site is (for the most part) done. You will notice a small blemish here and there.
Interested in feedback with regard to the navigation on the photo pages, general issues, how well it works on different browsers/platforms. If anyone cares to have a look, please feel free to toss any feedback my way.
I certainly would appreciate any feedback and/or constructive criticism.
    The site: http://www.avicdar.com
    thanks!

  • Site Feedback & Checks

    Hi,
We (our humble 2-man company) are busy with final checks for
a client's site before going live. If you have a minute to spare,
    take a look
    here.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated...you know how it
goes - when you stare at something too long you often miss the
obvious. Also, if there are any bugs spotted please post here. One
known issue is with the realtime updating of the scoreboard not
working on IE6. Mozilla seems to work fine - would be interested to
    hear feedback on other browsers.
    Thanks in advance,

Ok, well we've hot our deadline and the site is up now at

  • Site feedback

i have created a website using iWeb 08..
    http://amizone.net/amizone/Webforms/ACTWeb/ACT08/ACT_08.html
would love to hear your feedback(on site) as well as here on discussions.
    thanks

Site looks great! I'm big on breaking out of the standard formatting and coming up with something different.
My one suggestion is to try and optimize your site - it is extremely slooooooooow to load in both Firefox and Safari. I recommend WebSite Maestro. You can download a demo here: http://www.tonbrand.nl/download_mac.htm
I also like to get my hands dirty when it comes to optimizing my images by using Photoshop's "Save for web" feature, comparing PNG and JPEG formats to achieve the smallest file size possible. I know iWeb is supposed to optimize images for you when you drop them in, but I don't know how good a job it does. Try to get the small images edited down to actual size too. I will always tweak on something manually as opposed to trusting an automated part of a program.
In a site with as much graphics as you have it is key to get them under control. I'd even combine a lot of the smaller ones into the background so there is one large background image to load instead of a ton of small ones. That is what I did with my site.
    Good luck!

  • Portfolio site feedback / google verification problems PLEASE ADVISE.

Firstly I have an iweb designed illustration/photography site which I would greatly appreciate feedback on (ease of use, loading problems etc...etc...):
    http://www.matt-dawson.co.uk/
Cheers for any constructive comments. I've been getting sections of the browser background not loading in first time on Safari...does anyone else find this, suggestions...?
Further to this, a number of related questions (I'll keep it short and sweet, I know to many they may be tired old questions but I've searched old topics and despite everything I'm still puzzled...please advise).
problems getting listed on google: 1,2,3. FYI my site has been running for 2 months now.
1)which URL do I try to list with google? My site is forwarded from an NTL homepage:
    http://homepage.ntlworld.com/matthew.jdawson
to my domain provider. Do I try to get google to list my www.matt-dawson.co.uk site (as I've been trying to) or must I try to list my ntl homepage...? If the latter is the case how do I ever get my concise .co.uk URL to be listed on Google...?!
2)Tried both methods of google verification for www.matt-dawson.co.uk to no avail. The HTML file approach gives me the message "404 error, status of 200 (ok) in the header" so I followed googles advice RE this and opted for the Meta tag approach which also refuses to work. I've opened the iweb index.html in text edit (with ignore rich text clicked) and tried to insert the metatag where google said to but despite many attempts trying different possible insertion points in the text, no luck. Can anyone make the 'simple' even simpler for me...?
    3) finally, I understand from looking at past topics that even by typing my site name in this forum I have increased my chances of google eventually finding me as this forum gets crawled... is that correct...? I don't have contacts with websites that would link to me so that avenue is closed to me at present...
Sorry if anyone feels I'm treading over old ground but this is really foxing me... the brilliant iweb only holds your hand so far before you have to fend for yourself!
I'd very much appreciate anyones advise. Many thanks! Matt

Welcome to the Discussions, Matt. Regarding your website -- I found having to always click on HOME or the Back button an annoyance. I realize it looks more "arty" to omit the menu, but it serves a purpose: to efficiently navigate between sections of your site.
When arriving at a section, you show the section name as a reminder -- except at the INFO section. You may want to consider including "INFO" both for orientation and consistency.
And at that section you have the text: "(Click here to open an email message)". You may want to consider using the Mail app's "stamp" icon instead and enabling that as a link to the mail app -- it would be easier to see on the screen and a bigger target to click on. You could optionally add a short title such as "Email me".
Same at the Illustration section -- "(for link to Amazon click here)" -- you could use instead an Amazon logo button and perhaps a short title.

  • Flash 8 Video Site Feedback

Wanted to get some feedback on our new Flash 8 video website
serving daily astrology. We're using the on2 Flix Pro to encode the
video. Let us know what you think.

I'm still trying to figure out how to get the FLVPlayer to

  • Site Feedback 2 - Further Beyond Templates!

    Hi Guys and Girls
I thought I would post my second site done in iWeb. I tried to push the boundaries even further since my last project
I wanted to see what could be done when iWeb was combined with a little bit of Javascript. I am not a Javascript expert by any means but wanted to see what a little bit of tweaking could do.
I wanted to keep the design simple and elegant to match the ethos of the subject matter. The client wanted a memorable presence on the web. With this in mind I set out to create a little 'Bookmark' on the web that would be her site.
Anyway Enough Talk. Check it out and tell me what you think. Any questions - just ask!

Please note: The 'Three Graces' Link at the bottom of the page links to a site that was neither designed or hosted by me(presently, this may change shortly).

    Thanks Cloen
Okay to try and answer your questions.
The animation in the navigation bar. - To do this is quite straight forward. It is animated Gifs that come in on rollover. It involves changing a couple of attributes in a javascript file that iWeb automatically creates and changing a suffix in the html file. If you want I can Post up the process step by step.
Regarding the loading times. This is a bit of HTML trickery. Because the only thing that changes on each page is the content within the text box. So what I did was have each page look for its graphics within the same directory. So once one page had loaded each page after already had its graphics cached in the browser dramatically cutting down the download time.
I also went into the directory on my idisk where all my images were store and sent them through a free application called 'PNG Crusher'. Some of the graphics were as compressed as they could be automatically but some had extra data that wasn't needed so the app removes this cutting down its file size.
Also it helps if you make sure your graphics are optimized before bringing them into iWeb. They can't get bigger! A liitle extra preparation time goes a long way in reducing download time.
    Again Thanks for the comments.
I am actually setting up an iLife resource site with video tutorials and podcasts etc with a strong iWeb emphasis. Would this be something you would find helpful? What would you like to see in particular?
    Anyway, thanks again.
    Derek

  • How to make a categories in FAQ's

I want to make my question in category.
    Example.
    1. Adobe
         What is Adobe Dreamwever ?
         What is Abobe Business Catalyst?
         soon....

    Hey Renante,
First you need to create your categories:
    Site Settings > Categories
Then in your individual FAQ items:
Actions > Classify this item > Choose the relevant categories
Then on your page where you insert your FAQ items:
Module Manager > FAQ's > Display list of FAQ's > All items in category classification > Pick your category.
    Hope that helps.

  • Various Site Problems

    http://jobs.oracle.com/
    Code is as follows:
<!-- Copyright &copy 1995,1998, Oracle Corporation, All Rights Reserved. -->
    <HTML>
    <BODY>
    <title>HTML META tag refresh</title>
    <meta http-equiv="Refresh" content="0;url=http:/jol_ext-jolap-dad/plsql/jol_www_pages_pkg.jol_intro">
    </head>
    </html>
Seven lines of code total, containing four problems ... not a great impression.
    1. Comment contains &copy ... html character codes aren't necessary in a comment, and even if they were, it's missing the terminating semicolon to make it valid.
    2. First tag after <html> is <body>, when it should be <head>
    3. The content of the meta refresh lists the URL as http:/jol_... I'm not sure where to start with this one. It should either be a relative URL (i.e. url=/jol_ext-...) or an absolute URL (i.e. http://jobs.oracle.com/jol_ext-...). This is some horrible attempt to do both, and ends up doing neither.
    4. The second to last tag is </head>. While this is half correct, since the meta tag should precede the closing </head> tag, there is no corresponding opening <head> tag, so the tags are mismatched. According to the order in which tags were opened, this "should" be </body> (which would also be wrong, for a different reason.
[5. This isn't really an error, but a nitpick. An http response code 301 should probably be used in this situation instead of a crappy <meta> refresh. Or, even better, just put the actual content in the web site root directory ... no redirect needed. If you do insist on using a meta redirect, the title of the page should probably be something more display-friendly, such as "Redirecting, please wait," instead of a low-level implementation-specific note.]
Then, when I went to report this problem, naturally I go to www.oracle.com -> Contact us, to find a "site feedback" link. As others have pointed out before [ http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=1735536 ], no such link exists. However, in visiting the "Contact Us" page, an HTTP authentication message appears for login.oracle.com. I tracked this down to the "image" /corporate/contact/dotted_horizontal.gif ... which actually results in an HTTP 302 temporarily moved message, redirecting the browser to https://login.oracle.com/pls/orasso/orasso.wwsso_app_admin.ls_login?site2pstoretoken=v1.2~5426~A2B7981364[...]
This is further complicated by the fact that [apparently] this page prompts Opera for http authentication, and loads a regular web page for Firefox and Internet Explorer. Regardless, it's at least slightly broken (probably in at least two ways).
For being "the information company," Oracle really needs to work on how their information is presented.

Thanks. I googled for oracle site feedback, and this was the closest I could find.
I was a little curious, so I investigated further on the http authentication point.
I simulated the HTTPS session, and discovered that, in fact, the server did respond differently based on the User-Agent string (ugh, browser discrimination ... one of my big pet peeves). When I used the User-Agent string from Internet Explorer 6 (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.04506.30)), the server responded with a 302 Moved Temporarily page. However, when I used the Opera User-Agent string (or a made-up string) (Opera/9.20 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en)), the server responded with a 401 Unauthorized HTTP response (and WWW-Authenticate: BASIC realm="Single Sign-On").
