SizeWidthToFit()

I would like to use the command sizeWidthToFit, in order to have the columns of my JTable
large enough to show the column headers, but I have some problems with it.
I'm using this code:

javax.swing.table.TableColumnModel m = t.getColumnModel();

As you can see, now the width is fixed to 200, because the command:
c.sizeWidthToFit();
doesn't work.
Can you help me finding a solution?

You can easily modify it for your needs!

  • JTable displays string in wrong order : my code problem or Java problem ?

    I have the following code that displays data in a JTable, most of the time it works fine, but I've realized when I have a cell with values like : "Snowboarding"+"[123456789]"
    It would display it as : [Snowboarding[123456789
    For a string like : "Chasing toddlers"+"<123456789>"
    It would display it as : <Chasing toddlers<123456789
    It not only moved the last bracket to the front, but also changed its direction from "]" to "[" and from ">" to "<"
    Is there anything wrong with my code ? Or is this a Java problem ?

  • How can i make perticular row or perticular cell Editable  of a JTable

    Dear al,
    can u help me by guiding me for the problem of...
    i am having a JTable, in which a (first)column of each row is having a checkbox field.
    If the checkbox is checked then and then i should able to modify the cells in that row where the checkbox is.
    I have created the table with AbstractTableModel of which the isCellEditable(int row, int col) method is overwriten. Whatever return value (true/false) reflects the perticular
    cells becomes editable/non-editable respectively.
    but at run time...(mean the table is created now) and now i want to make the cells editable/non-editable depending on the checkbox value...
    how can i implement it.........
    please suggest.........

  • Help for adjusting columns of a JTAble in a Table Model

    In order to have a good display of by DataBase in a JTable, I've wrote some code to adjust columns in function of datas. Those datas are displayed with a TableModel ( which I've declared in a class JDBCAdapter ).
    When I start my application, I call adjustColumns(), and all is great but when I add information to my DB and display it, the columns of my JTable return to default width...

    Hi,
    OK. I have read your code sample again. It looks like the JDBCAdapter class is reloading table data in the executeQuery method. Why not call adjustColumns at the end of this method after the new rows and columns are loaded? Perhaps it also should be called at the end of executeUpdate. Have you tried doing that?
    I would still set
    JTable1.setAutoCreateColumnsFromModel (false); to prevent Java from readjusting the size automatically at some other time.

  • JTable getColumnName not working with numbered rows

    you know when you read through the same code for a day and can't find the problem but someone who has never seen it before can find the problem in a second? i've got that going on right now.
    I saw a thread, http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=57&threadID=639189 , where rows numbers are neatly added to a JTable by camickr, after I implemented this I can't get my data or ColumnHeaders to line up with the corrent columns. I have three columns, { Integer, Integer, JComboBox } it's kind of an old post but I was just wondering if any one else had run into the problem.
    Also when I insert a new row { Integer, Integer, "Combo Option" } it is inserted into the table as { Integer, "Combo Option", Integer }, this isn't a real high priority but any help would be appreciated, thanks.

    First, I don't see where you are tying to set the combo box on the first two columns. I only see it for the 3 and 4.
    Also why are you putting combo boxes in columns that are not editable:

  • Adjusting JTable column width

    I want to set the width of one column and let the other columns have the rest of the width in the table. Right now I am doing this by setting the width of each column. But can someone please tell me if it is possible to do programmatically.
    I have tried to use sizeWidthToFit(). But it does not work. I have also set the headers to null.

    Here you can set the properties such as the width, height, alignment or color of the cell. This parameter is not normally set because many of the properties are already defined when the style is defined.

    I am trying to use a list in the left hand side of a split pane and a table in the right hand side of the same split pane.
    Both the list and the table are in scroll panes.
    At the moment I am trying to have the table appear with column headings large enough to accommodate their names at runtime.
    Can someone please tell me why the following code doesn't do this?

  • JProgressBar Shows Up Too Late--How Do I Update the Display Immediately?

    My application has a split pane, the bottom page of which is a panel containing an image that takes a long time to load. For that reason, I want the bottom pane to be a panel with a progress bar until the image is ready.
    Here's a simple version of my code:

If I pop up a dialog after I add the progress bar to the split pane, the progress bar shows up as soon as the dialog shows up.
    This code is inside a ListSelectionListener on a table elsewhere on the GUI, in case that's relevant.
    I think I don't understand some basic principle about how to get the GUI to be updated immediately after I make some change.

    As suggested, I have prepared a compilable demonstration. I figured out that the
    problem I was having before was that I was trying to join the background and
    event-processing threads (I had been using threads, but I didn't show that code in the
    version I posted since it didn't seem to matter). After I eliminated the join, the progress
    bar is displayed, but the user can do other things while the image is loading. I want to
    prevent the user from doing that. I switched the cursor to a wait cursor, but that doesn't
    seem to prevent it.
    In particular, while it is loading, the user should be able to:
    * resize the window
    * minimize the window and bring it back up
    * ideally, adjust the split pane, but that isn't critical
    but NOT:
    * select a different row in the table
    * sort the table
    * use the menus
    Any attempt by the user to perform the disallowed actions should have no effect either
    while the image is loading or after it has finished.
    (That is, the disallowed events should not simply be queued for later.)
    I wonder if there is a simple way to accomplish that.
