  • Send Syslog messages to multiple SYSLOG servers

    Hi,
We are have two syslog servers defined, however we notice that the ACS only sends the syslogs to one server and will only send to the other in a failure scenario, which is a standard operation across all platforms. However we have a requirement for the ACS to send syslogs to both servers simultaneously, is there a configuration option for this?
    Many Thanks
    Leon Noble

    You can do the following:
    1) Create a remote log target for your syslog server at
    System Administration >
    Configuration >
    Log Configuration >
    Remote Log Targets
    2) Configure the log categories that should be enabled to eb sent to this log target.
    Go to
    System Administration >
    Configuration >
    Log Configuration >
    Logging Categories >
GlobalSelect a specifc category and then look at "Remote Syslog Target" tab.
For each category that you want sent to your syslog server select the remote log target in the "
    Selected Targets" transfer box
Note that this configuration is hierarchical. So if make configuration for one log category it applies to all subtemding categories. For example if configure
"AAA Audit" then the configuration will apply to the pass and failed attempts categories

  • N97 doesn't send text messages?

I purchased my N97 on release date, and up until now, it has been texting fine, however, as of yesterday I have been unable to send text messages and when I attempt to, they just sit in the outbox telling me to retry sending them later.
I can receive messages perfectly fine and I am on O2-UK, if that's any help?
Please could someone help? It's getting kind of annoying...

This is an airtime supplier issue. Contact O2 and confirm they have not changed your contract settings and ask them to txt you the correct settings to your phone, have answered many posts on this subject, it is inevitably down to O2,Vodafone,Orange,T-moblile etc etc. They all seem to have been messing about with settings last few weeks, I had similar prob, and took 5 calls for someone to realize they had removed the service from my contract. Be persistant with them !
    Good Luck

  • ASA send syslog messages for configuration changes

On a router you can send configuration changes to the syslog server by doing,
    conf t
    archive
    log config
    logging enable
    notify syslog
Then the router will send something like,
    .Aug  3 13:12:00.776 PACIFIC: %PARSER-5-CFGLOG_LOGGEDCMD: User:admin  logged command:no interface Loopback76
if I had typed at the command line, "no int lo76"
How do you do this on the ASA?
Goal:  I want to know when anybody does any kind of config on my ASA.

The syslog number 111008 and 111010 will log the command that is entered by user.
    111010 is for configuration changes.
Here is the syslog for your information:
    111008:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa84/system/message/logmsgs.html#wp4769400
    111010:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa84/system/message/logmsgs.html#wp4769410
You need to enable syslog, and severity level 5, and if you don't want to see any other logging, you can only log the above 2 syslog numbers.

  • EEM and sending syslog trap

When using EEM applet or even EEM Script I have noticed a behavior, when sending syslog message like this
    action 30.1 syslog priority notifications msg "Usmerjevalnik $_info_routername: 1G LINK 2 UP (sla id = $sla_id) !!!"
message does not appear in switch buffer and is not sent to syslog server, except when using global logging level "debugging" like:
    logging buffered 1024000 debugging
    logging trap debugging
    Is this normal behavior?
    I'm using C6513/SUP720/ios 151-2.SY2 or 122-33.SXJ6
    Regards,
    Branko

    Hi Branko,
AFAIk, this is an expected behaviuor  , you need to have "logging trap debugging " command enabled to get the syslog traps.
    Thanks-

  • IPSLA/Perfromance/IPM: syslog message on collector down/failed

    Dears,
Customer is upgrading  from ciscoworks SNMS  and they feel they loose a lot of valuable info.
They now have a few maps that give an at a glace state of the network. There is little I can do in LMS 4.1 to cover that.
The main problem for now is alerting on a host that runs a service like smtp, dns, etc and some hosts that should be pingable.
I'm trying to configure a collector on "IPM/ IPSLA/Performance" to run tests like echo, smtp and dns from a few central devices.
I think a IPSLA device it is capable to send syslog messages when the collector action 'fails' right?
Does anyone know what these messages look like?
I'd like to generate an alert using the syslog automated actions so I need to know what I can expect, provided my asumptions are correct.
    Cheers,
    Michel

    I am amazed.
When I use LMS to configure the devices to send IPSLA SYSLOG it configures ..... traps!
"IP SLA jobs for syslog configuration"
    rtr logging traps
    ip sla logging traps
    ip sla monitor logging traps
I found this other thread   https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/176841
It seems what is being said in LMS help and on cisco.com is perhaps somewhat misleading.
It can send traps not syslogs.
Now looking at the helpfile I get the impression someone is confused about syslog and traps
    "IPSLA Syslog Configuration
Syslog is a trap message that is sent  from the device if any changes occur to the device. You can either   enable or disable the IPSLA Syslog. However the IPSLA Syslog can be  configured only by a Network  Administrator or System Administrator.
The Device Selector will display only the Source devices that are IPSLA enabled. It does not display any  Target devices.
To enable or disable IPSLA Syslog: "
A SYSLOG message is not a trap message!.
Can someone shed some light on this?
Can I get LMS to act upon a failing collector?

  • RME (LMS 3.2) No detect Change Configuration automatically by Syslog Messages

    Hi,
I have a problem with the "change audit" for Syslog messages trigger. I set all my devices to send Syslog messages to the CiscoWorks server. When I make any changes to syslog message is sent correctly for the CiscoWorks server, but it does not start automatically collects configuration (config fetch).
Only when I start manually "sync archive" the configuration is stored and detected the change in configuration.
Has not changed anything in config fetch "to" Automated actions Syslog ".
    Thanks

    Hi,
You an check RME  > Tools > Syslog > Automated Actions to verify nothing was changed.
Then display 'Config Fetch'. There is contextual help available:

  • Recivining and analyzing syslog messages from facility local3 on LMS4.2 soft appliance.

                       HI,
all of our enterprise switches are sert to send syslog messages from facility local3. this is partly because our linux syslog server loggs its boot syslog  messages from  facility local7 an we could't use the default  facility of local7 on our cisco switches. LMS4.2s syslog daemon is set to recieve syslog messages from facility local7. how can i change it so that it can listen for facility local3 and also make sure the syloganalyzer and automated action  work fine.
    thanks,
    Kerim

    Hi All,
I thought it is a good idea to share the workaround my colleague came up with for this prolem. there is a file called syslog-entries.txt under /opt/CSCOpx/conf. he added all the entries we needed like :
    local3.*     /var/log/syslog_info
    local5.*   /var/log/syslog_info
the change was automatically reflected on syslog.conf
now we receve alerts from facilities 3 and 5 besides 7.  hope this helps anyone who run into the same issue.

  • N5k and FI sending syslog

Hi, I would like to know the behaviuor of N5ks and FIs when they are sending syslog messages to multiple remote syslog servers. Do they send it only to the 1st in the list OR to all of them at the same time.
If I do "show logging server" on the n5k, it shows me 3 BUT as i do not have access o those servers, I cannot verify this.

    Hello,
If you have configured three syslog servers, FI would send logs to all of them.
If you want to verify it and do not have access to syslog servers, then one way to verify whether we send the messages or not is to turn on the debugs.
    connect nxos
    debug logging
show debug logfile syslogd_debugs  <<<<---- view the debugs
un all <<<---- turn off the debug
You can do the same on N5K and verify it's functionality.

  • WLAN APs send syslog broadcasts in controller mode

    Hi,
in a test environment we use several 1131 wlan aps in controller mode with software version 4.2.176.0.
With wireshark running on a client pc in the same subnet as the wlan aps reside I saw that the wlan aps are sending syslog messages to the broadcast address 255.255.255.255 like "AP:<mac-address> %LWAPP-3-CLIENTERRORLOG: Decode Msg: could not match WLAN ID 5".
Does anybody know if this is expected behaviour and how I can correctly configure syslog on the aps in controller mode?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Thorsten Steffen

    Hi,
Yes, the AP broadcasting syslogs is an expected behavior. It helps in troubleshooting AP join issues. If you don't want the AP broadcasting the messages you can either configure the AP's to send them as unicasts or disable the syslogging by defining a destination address of 0.0.0.0.
You would use the "config ap syslog host..." command on the controller to configure this. Obviously this command only works for the AP's after they have already joined the controller.

  • RV110W excessive syslog messages

I bought a RV110W wireless router a couple months ago that I've been pretty happy with.
However, I have one significant problem with it.  It is configured to send syslog messages to an internal server.  Twice now it has gone into a mode where it starts dumping messages like,
      ip_conntrack_is_ipc_allowed: ipc_entry_is_full
continuously, at a rate of about 20 per second.  It otherwise seems to function normally, but of course if unnoticed my syslog file quickly grows to hundreds or thousands of megabytes.  A reboot restores normal operation.  It is running firmware 1.1.0.9.  A search on the internet turned up no information about this problem.
It may be some corruption is occuring in the router's OS, or perhaps this is something that can be triggered externally (in which case it would be a weak form of DoS attack?  Or maybe worse if in this state it is unable to properly apply the firewall rules.)
Looking for some hints on what might be wrong and how to fix.

I have also experieced the same issue.  I did not reboot the Wireless Router but the logging has seemed to stop.  I'm not sure what caused it either.  I did clear the log and it has not been logging the error "ip_conntrack_is_ipc_allowed: ipc_entry_is_full".
I would like a response from Cisco on this error.  How do we get Cisco to respond?

    Hi,
I've recently noticed that ALL the syslog messages that are sent to our Cisco MARS device are then being sent to our syslog server. Besides the messages from our MARS device, the syslog server also gets the original syslog messages from our ASA and PIX firewalls (which, of course, also send to our MARS device). I would like to have MARS send syslog messages to the syslog server that pertain only to changes/events happening directly to the MARS device. Can anyone help me with this?
    Thanks in advance!

    Kerry;
To have CS-MARS specific incidents forward to your syslog server, you will most likely want to add an action to generate a syslog for the CS-MARS-specific inspection rules.  These rules can be found by navigatng to:
    RULES>Inspection Rules
from the Group: drop-down choose "System: CS-MARS Issues"
You can then edit the Action: section for the specific rules (one at a time) to add a syslog action.  Specifics are outlined here:

  • Using 37xx stack switch can I send snmp messages as syslog ?

In my environment, we are having cisco 37xx stack switches, I want to know is it possible to use the switch config to send snmp traps as syslog messages to the Syslog-server.
In our case, we are using siem which has the ability to process syslog messages from different networking switches. What specific event I'm after is related to bandwidth utilization of the interface. It would have been great if there was existing syslog-event for exceeded bandwidth or increase in bandwidth beyond certain bps rate. The only place such information can be obtained is from snmp, but the siem station doesn't understand snmp, So I hope there are some setting which allows the conversion of snmp traps to syslog msg to be forwarded to destination.
    Thanks.

The iPad cannot use your Android phone number at all so it will not in any way be associated with the device or your Apple ID. You will be using your Apple ID email address as your connect address to use Messages. If you want to look at it this way, your iPad/iMessages will be associated with your Apple account/Apple ID, not with the Android phone number.
Where some users get into problems is if they go from an iPhone number to an Android phone number. That is not what you are doing.
