Slow-Mo Woes

I haven't been useing After Effects very long, but I when I try to add effects to my videos the play in a really slow frame rate. Then when I render them I saves them in the same slow frame rate. Ideas? Help?

You need to run through the basics.
Please go through any of the getting started tutorials. At least go tv.adobe.com and search for After Effects Workflow.
This will help get you started: First, you have to render previews using the 0 key on the numeric keypad. You don't use the space bar. The space bar won't do it. Secondly, you need to set your output module to a codec that will playback smoothly. The default lossless codecs won't.

  • Slow motion woes

I am trying to slow down a clip of DVCProHD 25p footage to run at 50%. I have used the timing tab and set it to 'adaptive' with 'best' motion and, as there is no camera movement, set the flow smoothness to 0.
Once rendered there is a bizarre warping evident on some of the moving elements, that makes me think there is something wrong with the 'adaptive' setting.
Has anyone got any experience of this issue? Can you help me resolve it?
    Thanks very much
    Dominic

  • So I was going to buy a 3G phone but...

I get a phone home, and there is NO 3G, although it works on the street fine and also have WIFI, but when I turn to 3G I get no BARS, when I turn it OFF (3G) I get full strentgth.
So what gives, why would it work on the street and not 200feet away? Could low battery do it?
    Then again, NON 3G=full bars.
    Thanks

*> In conclusion, stop trolling, stop lying.*
*You sir are a non computer person and do not understand computers, wi-fi, and download speeds at all.*
*I had a friend that told me he got 300K per second, and I said really, for how much? That's 1 Mega byte in 3.2 seconds. or 3000 mega bits per second. I tested his line with a speed test and he was getting about 100K per second or 1 MEGABYTE per 10 seconds, or 1000 mega bits per second.*
*As I type right now, you either don't know what you're talking about or simply misunderstood.*
*My Wi-Fi gets about 10,100K per second or when I download a file, 1.2MEGA BYTES per second, meaning, I can download a 700MB CD in 600 seconds.*
*Here, take a look, see, this is wi-fi, 10xxx per second, wireless.*
    *http://img380.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture4iy6.png*
*Anyway his device was 5 times faster than iPhone and was tested at CNET as well as testmyiphone.com and he got 1900 megabits, or 190K per second, or almost 200K per second, or 1 MB in 5 seconds, and the iPhone got 58K or 580 mega bits or 1 MEGABYTE in 20 seconds, and is much slower than his other device.*
*Learn the difference, so many confuse megabits and megabytes all the time and high speed sells packages as 786Mps which really means 78K not 780K where my line is sold through cable as 10MBps = 1 megabyte per second, or 10,000K, and 784K (as seen by packages) are 78K or almost 100K meaning, 10 seconds to download a megabyte.*
*So no, I am not lying. Learn the difference.*
*iphone 5 times slower than his other phone.*
*iphone came in around 58K, other phone 190K, or 584 and 1900 any my computer if on the same numbering system is 10100, or 101K or 1.1MB, again, another person that has no idea what they are talking about.*
*My speed (and wireless at that, is 88% faster than the rest of the country and 92% faster than the rest of the world).*
*Believe what you want, but at least learn the correct terminology...*
    *http://img169.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture5jj8.png*
**For those that are, like my friends and this person here, many, and I do mean many, are misinformed...**
*I pay $24.99 for a 10Meg service which really translates to 1.2MEGABYTES per second download.*
*Take a look at this image that I snapped when I was testing...It shows my speed (wireless too) at 10525 or 1.0Meg per second, as in megabyte, not megabit, which is what the other numbers before it are, so when you see a cable or DSL selling a package for 512, or 1.5 speeds, they are talking about 150K per second, or 6 seconds or so to download 1MB.*
    *Notice on this chart it says 512, 1M, 1.5, 3M (or 300K), 5M (or 500K) or 10M (meaning 1 megabyte).....which is what I am getting.*
    http://img148.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture6rk5.png
Many, even after years and years of being around, don't know the difference between megabyte and megebit (which is what service providers sell their packages at) and are mislead thinking 1.5Meg service means 1.5 megabyte when in fact it means 150K per second......
The fastest you can get in this country today is 30M service, or 3 megabyte per second, only in Boston that I know of.
SO it seems that this replier does not know what he is talking about and I don't mean to flame him but if I have to give a class on speeds and how they are marketed and so on, so be it.
I also discovered that the iPhone speeds are GLOBAL and that other phones DO NOT have problems so its the phone, not the service provider and I am speculating that the antenna is either faulty, or tuned down for longer battery life. That said, I was in the Apple store and played with a ATT phone (older iphone) and it was faster than the newer iPhone and this was an ATT phone (who is a friend of mine), so maybe he tweaked his out, I will be talking to him and will report back on this as this is an EPIC problem that seems to be global. Apple will not be able to sit and do nothing about this, the repercussions are to huge, google iphone 3g slow speed woes and you will see story after story, hopefully, this can be fixed on the next batch of phones, regardless of battery life, I am thinking you are going to need 2 batteries to get though a day and the phone is going to have to be self replaceable. Note the screws this time.
    WE'll see.

  • Slow computer and Prebinding Woes

    Greetings.
I have been experiencing slow overall system performance as of late on my Dual 2.0GHZ G5. Normally, a repair permissions and prebind will solve this problem. I tried this last night, however when I ran prebinding from the terminal, it asked for my password, and after I entered it, the terminal hung for about 15 seconds and the next line I get reads c-67-161-216-202:~"my user name"$
Then I get the little rectangle cursor as if the terminal is waiting for a new command.
The lines of text I would expect to follow after I enter my password no longer apear.
I don't know if it makes any diference, but I did experience a kernal panic a few weeks ago.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Dave.

First, there's no need to ever do prebinding unless you are using OS X 10.1.x or earlier. Repairing permissions also won't make a slowing computer run faster. Your computer may be running slower because you need more RAM or maybe just need to do an occasional restart. It could also slow down due to large cache and log files that need clearing (use TinkerTool System.) If the problem is due to hard drive corruption then use Disk Utility to repair the hard drive. Unless you are having permissions related problems there's no need to repair permissions.
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on maintenance and optimization. Following is my suggestions on maintenance:
Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility called Macaroni that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.
OS X automatically defrags files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems.
I would also recommend downloading the shareware utility TinkerTool System that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old logfiles and archives, clearing caches, etc.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is significant):
    1. Retrospect Desktop (Commercial - not yet universal binary)
    2. Synchronize! Pro X (Commercial)
    3. Deja Vu (Shareware)
    4. SuperDuper (Commercial)
    5. Carbon Copy Cloner (Freeware - not universal binary.)
    6. LaCie SilverKeeper (Freeware)
    7. MimMac (Shareware)
    8. RsynchX 2.1 and PsyncX 2.2.1 (Freeware)

  • Startup woes followed by slow functionality.

    Hi all
I have a MacbookPro 2006, 3Gb Ram, 500 Gb internal drive. 2.33 Dual Core. The Logic board and HD were replaced about a year ago.
Never had an issue really with it.
Not until I dropped it the other night.
Wouldn't start up fully. The chime, screen lit up, no apple. Just grey screen and fans whirring.
Now, I've two backups, a cloned version on an external drive about a month old and a current Time Machine backup.
    - So I boot off the SL disc, and tried Disk Utility, reported issues it could not fix.
    - Booted off DiskWarrior DVD. Reported major issues and that it couldn't replace the directory.
So I harvested the latest files using DW, no harm even with the two backups.
    BIte the Bullet.
    - Boot off the SL disc, ran Disk Utility, erased the drive, writing zeros to disk. Ran smoothly.
    - Ran the SL installer to do a clean fresh OS install. Quit half way through, said it couldn't install all the support files.
    Hmm...
    - Rebooted off the SL disk. Ran Restore Backup from A Time Machine from the menu, selected my most recent full backup. It took seven hours, did it, reported no issues.
    - Restarted. Grey Screen, chime, Apple logo, spinning cogwheel... and that's it.
    - Rebooted off SL disk, Ran Disk Utility, Repaired disk, it did a bunch of things. Repaired permissions too.
    - Restarted. Grey Screen. chime, Apple logo, spinning cogweel... that was it.
    - Restarted in Safe Boot mode. Ran fsck twice till it reported no modifications.
    - Restarted. Same as before.
    - Rebooted off DiskWarrior disk. Checked the directory, reported only minor issues, suggested replacement directory, replaced the directory.
    - Restarted. No difference, stuck at the logo.
    Hmm...
    - Downloaded the 10.6.5 combo updater, maybe that might 'bless' the internal HD to boot.
    - Booted off an external drive, ran the combo updater on the internal drive.
    - Restarted.
    - Got all the way to my login window. Logged in. The whole thing slow as treacle.
And there I find myself, with a Mac that is struggling, clicking anywhere results in a spinning beachball. Finder windows take an age to draw, if they actually do manage to draw. Launching programs is impossible.
    Help much appreciated. I'm baffled.

You say you have a bootable clone? What happens if you boot from it?
You might want to try running SMART Utility:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/systemdiskutilities/smartutility.html
You can download the demo and run it several times for free. It will give you a detailed analysis of the physical health of your hard drive. It is more critical than Disk Utility, and may pick up signs of a failing hard drive, which could be the problem.
The drop could have jarred almost anything. If the HD checks out OK, you may need to open it up and reseat some cables on the logic board.
    Good luck!

  • Slow Dialup Update Woes -- any other options?

I just unpacked my new Intel iMac and am in the process of setting it up, moving files from my old beloved G3 iMac, etc. No problems setting up the external modem. I decided after receiving some advice elsewhere here to run Software Update before installing any software, moving over Quicken data, etc. Was horribly dismayed to see that I was looking at literally days of download time. So far I have only downloaded and run the Firmware Update. I stopped Software Update after a 5-hour Quicktime 7.1.2 download (which I apparently lost altogether when I Stopped) because I saw that the OS 10.4.7 download was going to take approximately 21 hours.
I am stuck in the hinterlands without cable or DSL. Satellite is prohibitively expensive for me at this time. Dialup is presently my only option for Internet connectivity. I am the lone Mac user crying in the PC wilderness here. Is there any way to get the 10.4.7 update, as well the other updates I need (iPhoto, iWeb, iPod, iTunes, iDVD, etc.) on disc somewhere? Failing that, can I download them from my PC at work onto a disc and use them at home from that? If Apple makes these large files available for us dial-up peasants, I cannot find them and I sure would appreciate some direction. Many thanks in advance for any advice that anyone can offer.
iMac Intel DuoCore   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Your best option would be to download them at work like you proposed. Then, place the original files you download onto a CD-R.
Then, copy them to your Mac's hard drive to install them.
It does not matter that they would be downloaded with a PC and then copied to a Mac. As long as you save the original downloaded file to the CD-R, the Mac will work just fine with it.
The one exception are files that have the "PKG" extension. Those files cannot be stored properly on a Windows disk (either hard drive or CD-R disk).
If your office has a Unix or Linux system, then you can store those files on a disk.
But, Windows disks will not hold those files properly.
At least I know that the Mac complains any time I try to place one of those files on a FAT32 / Windows disk.
Now, you could always try it, and see what happens. But, I expect you are going to have trouble with PKG files. So, you'll have to download and save those with a Mac.
The updates that are in DMG format will download and save just fine on a PC.
As for getting the updates on disk. I don't know of any way to do that except for buying them on e-bay. There's a few shady people selling the updates there. It's not ethical, and likely illegal / against the license agreement. But, they do it.
Your best bet is going to be to find someone with a Mac every once in a while to download and save the updates for you.
Perhaps there is a cyber-cafe somewhere near you with a Mac setup. Or, maybe even an Apple dealer.
It's a tough one when you're stuck with a slow connection.
    I hope this helps.

  • More itunes woes - slow playback

I guess this all all linked to the dodgy itunes 7.5 download but i have searched the forums and not seen this problem elsewhere.
When I play tracks back with itunes they play back really slowly - like an old walkman playing a tape with flat batteries!!
I have run all the diagnostics, updated my pc drivers and removed quicktime and reinstalled 7.2 version - but all to no avail!!
Any ideas anyone? ... tyvm in anticiption

"If possible, I'd like a solution that doesn't require reinstalling iTunes or updating iTunes, because I get an installation error message with iTunes whenever I try to do that (great program)."
That's not exactly a realistic expectation. Try and use Microsoft's Cleanup Utility and then reinstall Quicktime/iTunes:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Make sure it's a new and fresh download from:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
See if any of these help:

    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302775
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
If not mentioned in the articles, make a new user account in Windows XP and see if iTunes opens. That will tell you if there's something funky in your main account (if the new user works), or if you have a system-wide issue.

  • ICal woes - any help please

Hi everyone, I am having some major iCal woes that I hope someone has the answer to.
Ok this is how I handle my workflow. I have numerous calendars such as "call", "viewing", "meeting", "work misc", "personal" etc. All colour coded and I use the month view as standard.
Under SL I would double click the day I add an event go through the boxes (name, location, time, etc) click save and job done.
Now under Lion when I double click a day I get an event box but only the header. So I have to type the header hit return then double click on the event again to get the box up so I can assign the event the right time and calendar to use. This is taking twice as long as it did before under SL and is a pain when you have a client on the phone. Am I missing something here? Why is it now so hard? - and I have tried that quick entry business but it doesn't work for me, I simply want the whole calendar entry box when I double click in month view.
Next problem is all new events go in as a all day event. Again another click I didn't need to do in SL. Then untick all day and enter a time LionCal doesn't set the end time 1 hour later anymore it sets it hours later for me, sometimes into the next day so I have to click into the date box and type the end date, again a massive slow down in my workflow.
Finally and most annoyingly in month view I cannot for the life of me get a 12 hour clock with AM/PM. I checked my international page in sys prefs and all is ok but LionCal is not playing ball.
Any help would be appreciated as I love iCal and run my life with it over MobileMe.

If you want to Commit changes at every record level in a Multi-Record Block, you may have to write the following triggers at the block level :-
    1) Key-Down
    2) Key-Up
    3) You will also have to handle Mouse Events
    i.e When-Mosue-Click etc
In each of these triggers, issue a commit statement :-
    i.e.
Trigger Name :- KEY-DOWN [ Defined at Block Level ]
    Trigger Code
    Commit_Form;
    Next_Record;
The Commit_Form statement will display a message for the user to COMMIT transaction to the DB.

  • Is there a fix for my intolerably slow iMac?

I will greatly appreciate any help provided by the community - whether it's harsh reality or a miraculous fix.
My beloved 24" iMac (Early 2009, 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB) - which ran like a dream all the way through 10.6.xx has been booted back to 2001 in terms of speed.  Even the simplest of things like opening Mail, launching Chrome or even copying files bring up the dreaded rainbow wheel and sometimes take 3-5 minutes to launch and return keyboard and mouse control to me. Photoshop and Aperture are virtually unusable.  A simple crop in Photoshop has caused a total system hang and working with any file over say 20MB in size becomes a game of patience, waiting and resisting the urge to put my fist through the glass out of frustration.
I'm a Mac user since 1993 and I've never been forced to downgrade the OS.  I've either ponied up and bought a newer model, or refused to upgrade the OS after learning a particular OS rendered my model unusable.  Well, I received poor information this time and this iMac went from a graphic and web production machine to being a glorified web browser (and even that is slow, jerky and unreliable).
Is there a cure for my woes short of trying to find my original install DVD and retrograding the entire thing back to 10.6?  I'm loathe to do this becaue this will render as useless several programs I use regularly - Coda for example and all of my Apple apps - iPhoto, Aperture, and who knows what else.  Based on the fact that I try to keep all my software current at all times, it could start an endless backward spiral that makes the situation even worse than it is already.
I am not in a position to upgrade with a new OS on the horizon and the current iMac crop aging as well - in fact, now would be perhaps the worst time to jump to a new machine.  Nor do I wish to lug this beast over to the Apple store and waste an afternoon waiting for a Genius to tell me to buy a new system.
I simply need to make the right choice this time instead of the wrong choice, which was installing Lion, and I could use some advice.
    most sincerely,
    Dave Bias

Well seeing as I'm running Lion on 2 GB of RAM, I can't see how upgrading the RAM will make that much of a difference.    If you are seeing launch times in minutes, it probably indicates your cache got corrupted by some third party cache cleaning software.  To see if some corruption can be fixed, first backup your data:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-1992
Then boot in safe mode, holding the shift key.  If issues persist in safe mode, run the hardware test that came with your Mac.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303081
And if that is unrevealing, and booting into safe mode doesn't solve anything, and you are backed up, try repairing the directory by:
    1. Booting into the restore partition with command-R.
    2. Selecting the installer's Utilities menu.
    3. Selecting Disk Utility
    4. Selecting First Aid
    5. Selecting the boot partition.
    6. Click on repair disk (not repair permissions)
Do NOT proceed with any install itself.  Just quit the install program
If the disk is not able to be repaired, purchase Alsoft Disk Warrior, and boot of that to repair the directory.
If it is able to be repaired, and the machine is still slow, I think you may have run into some RAM that is bad, and need to replace it, not add to it.
If Disk Warrior can't repair the hard disk, replace the hard disk itself.

  • Software updates download is very  slow

Today I downloaded 2 software updates; OSX 10.9.5 and Safari 7.1.  The download speed was very slow and erratic.  The activity monitor showed that the process "softwareipdated" was receiving data at anywhere from 1 to 25 kbs.  My DSL connection is never very fast but typically receives 130 to 150 kbs.  Other downloading such as streaming music or video has been normal.  Any ideas why this happened and could this be a symptom of some more fundamental problem?

It may not be exclusive to Verizon but considering that Apple updates are severely affected on my system, yet my next door neighbor with Comcast has no problems whatsoever, I am 100% confident that Verizon is playing a role in my woes.  In fact, I updated my wife's iPad to iOS 8 OTA on a relative's Xfinity wifi just to get it completed.  Took me about an hour to complete.  I came back home, less than a quarter mile away to my lovely FiOS and boom, 15-20 hour download estimate on my rMBP to update my iPad Mini (which I'm saving for last or at least until this issue is resolved).  Changing my DNS seemed to work briefly on my rMBP but less than a day later my speeds were back to being slow as molasses. At least I had the opportunity to update both my rMBP and iPad Air before the speed took a nosedive again.  Just wish I had updated the Mini too.  I figured the problem was resolved and I'd get a chance to update it later.
Judging by several posts I found online (links to two examples posted below), I see I'm not alone in thinking something funny is going on between Apple and Verizon.  I won't refute your claim that it is also affecting other providers, because your experience sounds pretty close to mine, but everyone I've encountered with problems in this area has FiOS. Folks around me who subscribe to other ISP's seem fine.  The link below to the discussion on dslreports (2nd link) is particularly telling because I read it after trying various troubleshooting steps and was surprised by the number of people who posted in that thread that had identical issues and troubleshooting experiences as me.  Several people also mentioned that the problem disappeared after they connected to Apple update through a VPN.
I assumed it was primarily on the East Coast because I have relatives in the West and Midwest with FiOS who have not had any issues.
I called Verizon but that was about as useful as your experience.  They didn't even bother pointing fingers.  They simply said "if everything else works then I'm getting what I pay for".  I promptly replied that as an almost exclusively Apple household, I am most certainly not getting what I pay for if I can't upgrade my software, apply security patches or use my Apple streaming devices.  Unfortunately, no one seems interested in fixing the issue, so we're left to find our own solutions.
And that's exactly what I did roughly an hour ago.  Comcast will be out to swap my equipment and service in 14 days.  Problem solved... At least I hope.

  • Why is my Macbook pro now extremely slow and not running things like powerpoint any more?

I'm sure I'm not the only one.
Mavericks installed. Now my Macbook Pro is slower than a one-legged tortoise.
It won't run powerpoint, which just crashes. en my keyboard misses the first part of sentences because it can't keep up. I have to double check everything I type. I'm trying to run a business, and I'm losing time, money and the will to live.
I cannot reinstall microsoft office, as I bought my macbook Pro (2 GHz Intel Core i7, 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3) from a seller who cleanly installed Mountain lion for me, and installed Office 11 on it. I do not have any installation disks. I have been forced to downgrade to Mountain Lion, which I'm still waiting for Apple to send to me.
Is there anyone out there who can give me any help. I'm not paying Apple any more money. Why should I? I've already been forced to rebuy an operating system that my Macbook previously had installed.
Not only that, I think I have an expanding battery issue, and my trackpad is now broken. Just to add to my woes.
Has anyone had a solution to solving the Mavericks debacle?
    Please somebody, help.
    Please.
    Before I start self harming.

    Hi all;
I agree with stobston,  many thanks to cbs20 for your inputs.  I was stuck with this one also.   I'm a former UNIX sysadmin; thanks so much for pointer to etrecheck.  It's nice to be able to look under the hood.

Note that I had no heavy CPU processes like stobston had.  There are some processes using lots of memory  though.  Made me wonder, could it be  a swap or contention issue?  I have a Macbook Air, so 'swapping' doesn't mean what it used to mean.  Anyway, I tried closing Excel and Finder.  Powerpoint was still slow.   I ran etrechek again.  WebProcess and mds are still running at the same memory usage; nearly half a gig between them.  WebProcess is Safari; shutting down Safari didn't help.   I have heard that Safari has had memory leaks, I don't know if that's true or not.  mds is the MetaData Server for SpotLight. I had run Spotlight several times today, and also did a lot of desktop cleanup.   That might have triggered mds.
I don't know how well Mountain Lion reclaims memory ( now I'm really getting into the weeds ), so I shut down  MacOS  and restarted it.  This time, I started up PowerPoint first, with nothing else running.  Problem solved.  PPT is running fine.
Thanks again all for your inputs.  An hour ago, I had no idea where to start.

  • Lightroom 4 runs slow

I have recently purchased LR 4.  I must say I prefer LR 3 much more.  I find it runs extremly slow and I'm not happy that they took the recovery and brightness sliders away.  I also noticed that they took preset of Tone Medium away on the left hand side. I have done updates but, it didn't seem to help much.  Exporting images as well as editing the images is very slow. I'm not sure what the Defringe and Moire brush is used for either. Any suggestions would be greatly apprecaited.  Thanks!

My suggestion: Use Lr3 until 4.2 comes out. I mean, the develop features of Lr4 are better, once you learn them, but learning them may be a nightmare if Lr running too slow.
Lr runs normal for me, but plenty of people share your performance woes. There may be things that will help, but they may not help... (see the "big" thread).
PS - Defringe is often best handled using both global and local adjustments: global to get what you can without getting too much, and local to get the rest... - try it when you have an image with fringe color that is not due to lateral chromatic aberration.

  • ITunes extremely slow

Whenever I try to open iTunes the program starts gathering information for iTunes Match and the program slows down incredibly.
I tried to open iTunes while offline, but to no avail: whenever I open a file, the program keeps running for at least 30 seconds before playing the file.
If I access iTunes from my iPad, all is smooth.
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks in advance.
    I'm using iTunes 10.6.1 running on OS X 10.7.4.

While I'm sorry to hear of everyone's woes here, I'm heartened slightly to hear that it's not just me experiencing these exasperating stalls and beachballs. And it's definitely since 'upgrading' to the latest version of iTunes.
Pretty much EVERYTHING runs incredibly slowly, though once playing it's seamless. However, iTunes now barely responds to prety much any action involving the actual interface. Among the actions that take an awful long time: switching between playlists, editing any info, searching, using the arrow keys to forward, back, skip, even adjusting the volume, essentially, any action that involves the keyboard or mouse brings up the spinning ball for around 20-30 seconds, even up to around the two-minute mark in some instances. I hadn't reconciled the amount of time with the file siZe, I'll keep an eye on that, but these are just MP3s, so nothing any bigger than 15-20Mb.
The rest of my system seems to operate fine, it's just suddenly iTunes is the slowest application out there... So I am glad to hear that others are experiencing similar and can only hope that the problem is being addressed.

  • Wifi on Netgear WGR614 router slow wifi fixed !!!!!!

I have had wifi problems on my new I Phone 4 since the 24th June at home with connecting to my router and get slow speeds and web pages that did not load and would freeze but have tried a little trick after seaching all over the web this weekend that seemed to have solved my wifi woes as of the last 15 hours I have had lighting wifi speeds and great connection so it might work for other users too.
    1. Upgrade to latest firmware for your router.
    2. Within router settings my mode was setup to use 802.11B & 802.11G mode, change this from either auto or B&G and select it to use 802.11B ONLY or B mode only.
    3. Save settings, reboot router and reconnect with your I Phone.
This has worked for me after 2 months of woes. Hope It Helps

I've tried to upgrade my WGR614v9, but everytime I download the upgrade file from the Netgear admin software, I get a file named "Unkown"
If I try to use this file for the upgrade, I get an error saying: "Invalid filename was provided, please enter again:(*.chk)"
The Netgear forums all recommend using only a WIndows PC for upgrades. Is it possible to upgrade a Netgear router using OSX?

  • Broadband Speed - So Slow Its Unuseable

I need some advice on how to tackle my current broadband speed problems with BT; if there is indeed an answer?  Before i begin I will state that I am a rural customer many miles from the exchange and I do not expect proper broadband speed, i always had a slow connection but I  just want what I got before.
I was achieving about 95kb/s connection since I signed up with BT last April (woes of getting that done and removing the DAX on the line are on another thread somewhere on this forum) which is terrible but what I accepted and paid over my cash for and it has been consistent at that speed since then.  However, for the last 2 weeks its now dropped to an average speed of 29kb/s.
Since April my router had only been rebooted twice duce to powercuts and it had never dropped the connection, however slow it may be, so its not excessive rebooting effecting the line.  Noise however has gone through the roof.  Noise margin is now displaying at 9.1db and the line attenutation is 69.3db...  Before the drop off this was never good but around the 7db margin level with about 60db attenuation on on the down line.  The sync rate has also dropped from nearly 2 Mbps to 1.063.  Full stats from router settings here:

I'm connected to the master socket with a Openreach fitted BT ADSL faceplate.  I've tried connecting to the router both wireless and wired with no difference to performance.   I contacted BT by phone 5 days ago and went through the usual reboot the router etc ordeal. They then agreed to reset the line but that has made no difference, if they did indeed do  anything at all?
Running the speedtest from http://www.speedtester.bt.com my results are as follows:
    Download Speed (Mbps): 0.31
    Upload Speed (Mbps): 0.36
    Ping Latency (ms): 41.38
I know it sounds paranoid but the same day this dropped off I saw on the way to work an Openreach van working in the village on the roadside cabinet.  Just seems that there has been some alteration to their infrastructure locally and its taken my connection from bloomin slow to unusable..
    Ideas?

Yeah i realise my profile is correct for my connection speed.  But in real world terms dropping from 80kb/s into the 20s makes a major difference to useabilty.  If you were on some infinity connection or even a 8mbps max connection you wouldn't even notice but when thats all you have it makes a mockery of the money you are sending to BT each month/
I Shall go through the old favourite of contacting a mod then.  Check my old thread Johjn46 where you and I went through this procedure with getting me signed up and things with mods never worked out as you promised they would
