SMS_INVENTORY_DATA_LOADER failed to process HYDYGY8R.MIF

We are having some problems with our inventory collection using
SCCM2012 R2. The sms_inventory_data_loader log is full of these messages:
Inventory Data Loader failed to process the file D:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\inboxes\auth\dataldr.box\Process\HYDYGY8R.MIF because it is larger than the defined maximum allowable size of 5000000.
Solution: Increase the maximum allowable size, which is defined in the registry key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\SMS\Components\SMS_INVENTORY_DATA_LOADER\Max MIF Size (the default is 5 MB), and wait for Inventory Data Loader to retry the operation.
I am hesitant to change default values in registry on site server. 
I tried to check classes but couldn't see HYDYGY8R.MIF. There is various folders on Dataldr.box
one of which is BADAMIFS which is about 24 GB in size.
Is there any way to resolve this without modifying registry

If you MIF is over 24GB,  you are Foobar'ed there is nothing that you can do. The max size of any MIF file is 50MB and this is a hard code limit.
IMO you should increase you max MIF file size to 50 MB. You should also look at what is causing it to exceed that limit. Unless you are inventory everything under the sun, I have never really seen a MIF bigger than 50 MB for a full inventory, ever with a
ton of custom items. There is one except to this, Citrix servers with the AI Shortcut future enabled. If AI shortcuts is enabled, I would disabled it.
