Solaris 10 and Java Messaging Server

How do you install java messaging server?

It's been quite a while since I worked with Trend. I do not know the current product, but if it's the same as the old, called by command-line, the walkthrough we did for 5.2 is still totally valid:

Please tell the steps to install and configure Sun Java Messaging Server 6 2005Q4.
    Thanks.

You aren't providing a lot of informations... in this case the answer could be: run the command
    /cdrom/jes_05_q4_dvd/Solaris_sparc/installer
if you just want to install messaging server on a single host, for evaluation purpose, in the documentation
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-4879
there is an exhaustive guide. If instead you're trying to addres some specific question, then please give us more details such as O.S., schema version, and so on...

  • Sun Java Messaging Server help.

I have currently running netsacpe messaging server on solris 7. I want to upgrade or change my mail server now. I am intrested in Sun Java Messaging Server 6.
Here i have few questions in my mind.
Will it only install on solaris 10 (linux not) ?
    Can I upgrade my NMS 4.1 and Solaris 7 into to SJMS 6 w / without solaris 10 ?
If I seprate install it can I able to migrate my old NMS 4.1 into SJMS 6 ?
And lastly Solaris 10 and SJMS are free or not (without commercial support) ?
If all things goes in my favour then please point me to the right how-to or docs.
    Thanks for reading.

Well i have started work on it. Two question more.
    1. Does whole JES is free to use without support or i
need to purchase any component. No purchase of any kind is needed.
    >
    2. Is it possible to migrate NMS 4.1 directory server
users by using ldif to this new directory server. Absolutely. It's even documented how to do it.
    check in the 5.2 documentation:
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/816-6734-10
    As for anti-spam and anti-virus:
Our engineers believe that they know how to build an excellent mail system. They make no claim to be experts at creaging spam or virus scanners.
We do have, however, integration with SpamAssassin (free spam scanning), and it's quite easy to integrate Clam AV anti-virus (also free_.
Why is our Messaging Server better than other products?
First, it's the highest performance of all we've been able to test.
Second, the mail server is extremely stable, and scales to systems holding up to a million mailboxes on a single hose. This reduces your cost of administration.
Third. the system is higly resistant to crashing to the point you have a lot of downtime.
Fourth, we go to extreme efforts to never loose a message

NB: the above commands will only work with Delegated Administrator 7.0 which introduced the "im" service. For DA6.4 you would use "-S mail, cal".

  • Solaris 8 and iPlanet Directory Server 5.1: Help

Could anyone help with advice or where to find documentation of how to setup a Solaris 8 client machine to authenticate against iPlanet Directory Server 5.1? The only documentation (eg books, BluePrint articles) I can find cover iPlanet Directory 4.11 or 4.12 and a Solaris 8 client. Even the tools from the BluePrint Tools area at Sun only talk about using iPlanet Directory Server 4.11/12. Quite a lot seems to have change from iDS 4.12 to iDS5.1.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Stewart

Hi Steven, I suppose that this question is identical to your other question: " Topic: solaris 8 client setup with solaris 9 ldap".
So the answer will be the same.
You may find what you are looking for in the following technical note: http://knowledgebase.iplanet.com/ikb/kb/articles/7966.html
It is called: "Cookbook for Solaris 8 client with Directory Server 5.1/Solaris 9"

  • Rebind Method and java.rmi.server.hostname

    Hello,
We are trying to execute a server on the internet which is installed in a machine whose private IP address is 10.X.X.XX.
To access the server by internet, the IP address is 196.XXX.XXX.XX and is converted by NAT to the IP address 10.X.X.XX.
I start the server with the command:
    java -Djava.rmi.server.hostname=196.XXX.XXX.XXX myServer
Also, and according some recommendation in this forum, we don't use the "rmiregistry" and instead we use the method:
    Registry r = LocateRegistry.getRegistry(MYPORT);
    r.rebind("MyServer", obj);
    However,
And it takes about over 4 minutes for this app to execute the rebind method. Does anyone know why ?
If I start without java.rmi.server.hostname propert. it executes immediatelly, but then I can't access the server from outside firewall.
    Am I missing something?
    Any advice or idea?
    Thanks
    Gerardo
PS. I am using Java 1.4.1 under Linux Red Hat 9.0.

I start the server with the command:
java -Djava.rmi.server.hostname=196.XXX.XXX.XXX myServerThe wait is probably due to your DNS setup. Is a client inside the firewall able to reverse-resolve a 196.xxx.xxx.xxx address?

  • Spamassasin and users database with sun java messaging server

Does anybody has managed to deploy spam scanning using personal databases (bayesian filters databases), i mean using spamassasin with user databases.
    Thanks,
    Andrs.

Yea, i do the same thing, but i see that some people want to receive mail that other people don't want.
Can i ask you another question? How do you deploy sa-learn?
    I use this scripts:
    learn_nospam.sh
    dir_nospam='/mail_store/*/*/*/\=no_spam/*/*.msg'
    for i in $dir_nospam
    do
    echo $i
    sa-learn no-sync ham $dir_nospam
    done
    sa-learn --sync
    learn_spam.sh
    dir_spam='/mail_store/*/*/*/\=spam/*/*.msg'
    for i in $dir_spam
    do
    echo $i
    sa-learn no-sync spam $dir_spam
    done
    sa-learn --sync
That 's works but it too slow, do you know some other ways.
    Thank you very much,

  • Use of MPSS on Solaris 9 and Java 141_03 - not getting 4M pagesizes

    Hi all,
Anyone know how to get MPSS actually using large page sizes in 1.4 / SunOS 5.9 ??
I have a 1.4.1_03-b02 JVM that is using the -XX:+UseMPSS option and using the LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/mpss.so.1 and MPSSHEAP=4M but when I use pmap -Fxs <PID> I always see 8k pages. My system is 5.9 Generic_122300-03 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-480R and pagesize -a give me:
    8192
    65536
    524288
    4194304
so 4M should be OK to use...
    The full JVM options are:
    -XX:+TraceClassUnloading -XX:+UseParallelGC -XX:+UseMPSS -XX:-UseAdaptiveSizePolicy -XX:SurvivorRatio=2 -XX:MaxTenuringThreshold=3 -XX:+DisableExplicitGC -Dsun.rmi.server.exceptionTrace=true -Xloggc:gc.log -verbose:gc -XX:+PrintGCTimeStamps -XX:+PrintGCDetails -server -ms2560m -mx2560m -Xmn1024m -Dsun.rmi.dgc.client.gcInterval=14400000 -Dsun.rmi.dgc.server.gcInterval=14400000
I have also tried using LD_PRELOAD_32 and LD_PRELOAD_64 but still only see 8k pages in pmap for the heap...
Thanks for any ideas, if I read the doc I should not need to do anything to use the MPSS option on SunOS 5.9...so maybe one of my other JVM options is preventing MPSS from being used?

OK, bug 4845026 is giving me a clue:
    Bug ID:      4845026
    Votes      1
Synopsis      MPSS broken on JDK 1.4.1_02
    Category      hotspot:jvm_interface
    Reported Against      1.4.1_02
    Release Fixed
State      Closed, will not be fixed
    Related Bugs
    Submit Date      08-APR-2003
    Description
I am running SPECjAppServer2002 with WebLogic Server 8.1 and JDK 1.4.1_02.
Here is the version of JDK 1.4.1_02 that I am using:
    <gar07.4> /export/VMs/j2sdk1.4.1_02/bin/java -version
    java version "1.4.1_02"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.1_02-b06)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.1_02-b06, mixed mode)
The system is a V240 with solaris S9U3:
    <gar07.5> more /etc/release
    Solaris 9 4/03 s9s_u3wos_04 SPARC
Copyright 2003 Sun Microsystems, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
Use is subject to license terms.
    Assembled 16 December 2002
After rebooting the system I use the following command line to start the appserver:
    + /export/VMs/j2sdk1.4.1_02/bin/java -server -verbose:gc -XX:+PrintGCTimeStamps
    -XX:+UseMPSS -XX:+AggressiveHeap -Xms3500m -Xmx3500m -Xmn600m -Dweblogic.oci.sel
    ectBlobChunkSize=1600 -classpath ...
The process should have some annon segments mapped to 4M, but it doesn't:
<gar07.7> ps -ef | grep java
    ecuser 541 533 12 10:30:33 ? 0:50 /export/VMs/j2sdk1.4.1_02/bin/java -server -verbose:gc -XX:+PrintGCTimeStamps -
    ecuser 566 343 0 10:31:24 pts/1 0:00 grep java
    <gar07.8> pmap -s 541 | grep 4M
    <gar07.9>
If I do exactly the same using JDK 1.4.2 instead of JDK1.4.1_02 I am able to get
4M pages. Here is the command line for 1.4.2:
    + /export/VMs/j2sdk1.4.2/bin/java -server -verbose:gc -XX:+PrintGCTimeStamps -XX
    :+PrintGCDetails -XX:+AggressiveHeap -Xms3500m -Xmx3500m -Dweblogic.oci.selectBl
    obChunkSize=1600 -classpath ...
And here are my 4M pages:
    <gar07.20> pmap -s `pgrep java` | grep 4M
    1AC00000 282624K 4M rwx-- [ anon ]
    F5800000 16384K 4M rwx-- [ anon ]
    F6800000 4096K 4M rwx-- [ anon ]
    F6C00000 4096K 4M rwx-- [ anon ]
    F7000000 4096K 4M rwx-- [ anon ]
    F9C00000 4096K 4M rwx-- [ anon ]
Without large pages the time spent in TLB misses for this benchmark is 25% (!)
Using 4M pages that time is reduce to 3%. WLS8.1 was certified with 1.4.1_02 so
we cannot use 1.4.2 for the benchmark.
    thanks for your help,

    Mukesh,
Can you get someone to look into back porting this fix. Please see below
attachment for additional info. 4845026 : (P1/S1) New Hotbug Created
Is a new bug that only exists in JDk 1.4.1_x release. Its fixed in 1.4.2
release from code related to bug 4737603.
Thanks Jane & James for the heads up.
    Thanks
    Gary Collins
    Gary,
I think the bug James referred to is
4737603 Using MPSS with Parallel Garbage Collection doesn't yield 4mb
    pages
which was fixed in mantis (according to the bug report).
Looks like a simple fix to back-port.
    Jane
    xxxxx@xxxxx 2003-04-10
This problem is partially because of bug 4737603, mainly because there is code cache mapping to large page in 1.4.1(4772288: New MPSS in mantis). This part of code will be ported into 1.4.1 from mantis.
    xxxxx@xxxxx 2003-04-18
There's 2 things. MPSS wasn't used in the parallel GC collector AND not
used for the code cache. Both need to be addressed.

  • Mail.app and Netscape Messaging Server v3.6

We are trying to track down performance issues with Mail.app in both Tiger and Panther. Issues include how long it takes to download large attachments (PDFs upwards of 10MB), how long it takes to synchronize and cache, and other things that appear in Mail's activity window and never go away. Downloading large attachments puts a large CPU load on our mail server. We are looking at all variables -- switches, network configs, local client settings, etc. We are on a switched network with a mix of Gig and 100BT to the desktops. But my question here is: What might be the advantage of upgrading to a newer mail server? Our Netscape 3.6 software is very old, but the Sun hardware it lives on had a CPU upgrade last year. Even though the IMAP protocol itself has been pretty stable for years, would we find newer platforms more efficient with modern needs such as large attachments and inboxes that receive dozens of messages a day?

Wow, this is dusting off the cobwebs. NS 3.X has a different format for mail message, the IMAP data is contained in the first 400 bytes (or so) of the message file. So sending them through the deliver program is not an option, unless you strip the bytes off.
When you ran upgrade on an individual user, did you first remove the 4.15 mailbox with mboxutil -d?

  • Sun java Messaging Server queries

    Hi,
We are currently evaluating Sun java Communication suite.
There are some doubts we are having about the system.
    1) How can an admin block incoming/ outgoing mail from the internet for a specified user or domain ?
    2) how can an admin backup and restore all mailboxes in case of a disaster?
    3) where can we find the physical location of the mailboxes?
We are using SunSolaris 9 on an UltrasparcIII server. The current setup is done using the single host setup guide.
    Thanks in advance
    Zafrul

    Hi,
    zkhan wrote:
    1) How can an admin block incoming/ outgoing mail from the internet for a specified user or domain ? Blocking incoming email for a specific email address/user can be performed a few ways e.g. adding a rule to the MTA mappings file, sieve filter rule, disable the user/domain in the directory (inetmailstatus: attribute) etc.
Blocking outgoing email isn't as simple unless you enforce SMTP authentication/UWC access only otherwise you cannot guarantee that a user hasn't 'forged' their email details (FROM: address).
Once again you can use the same methods to block outgoing email as incoming email.
    2) how can an admin backup and restore all mailboxes in case of a disaster?Refer to the manuals on backup/restoring.

    3) where can we find the physical location of the mailboxes? The mboxutil command will tell you the path e.g.
    ./mboxutil -lxp user/<uid>/*

If you just want to configure bge0 ... until next reboot:
