Solutions for Acrobat X annoyances?

I just upgraded to Acrobat X and must say I am very disappointed in some of the new layout "features".
1. The fading toolbar window at the bottom of the screen - this has to be one of the dumbest ideas that the programmers came up with. On Acrobat 9 this toolbar was logically where it should be, along the top. I download and print a lot of documents. Now, when I open those documents within a website I must scroll down to the bottom of the page, guess where the hidden toolbar is, mouse over it, wait for it to fade in, then hit the Print or Save button. What a hassle, especially when you need to open and save tons of documents.
On this same fading toolbar is the page count for the document (i.e. 1 of 100). When scrolling through a document this is not visible!! HOW can I tell what page I'm on?? I have to mouse over the faded toolbar, and then is disappears after a few seconds. Argh!!!
Also on the faded toolbar is the zoom key, which, again, must be moused-over to appear, and then it goes away.
Is there any way to put this toolbar back where it should be (doh!), back where it's convenient? Computer users these days have PLENTY of screen space, we don't need to save a quarter inch by removing the toolbar line, and especially when it is so inconveniently placed and hidden.
2. The annoying box that is permanently displayed in the middle of the screen. I HATE this. WHAT were they thinking? And, to rub salt in the wound, there is no way for Windows users to turn this off and get rid of it!
3. The "Find" box - it's now gone, and requires the user to hit "Control F" - and then...  a SMALL tiny box appears way over to the right of the screen for you to type your text in. So now, everytime I want to search a new document I have to go to the hassle of opening up the box. This is just ridiculous - here you have TONS of EMPTY UNUSED space on the toolbars above, but there is no way to move the Find box into that space!!! WHY is the box so small, did someone at Adobe assume people were only going to search for 5-letter words or something?
4. When I have a PDF file open and want to Save it or re-Save it - now requires and extra click because I have to select PDF first before the file dialog box opens!!
Overall Acrobat X is a BIG disappointment. I understand the goal was to "clean up" the interface. So, they cleaned it up all right, but then left all kinds of empty space on the toolbar, space in which you cannot use for anything, space that is just wasted!
Smart programmers design programs that require LESS keystrokes and mouse-clicks, NOT programs that require MORE. Also, programmers who insist on designing annoyances into their programs should be smart enough to include a way to get rid of the annoyance. For example, if you design an obnoxious box that goes into the middle of the screen, offer an option to get rid of it. If you design a search box that is only large enough for one word, then offer an option to enlarge it.

Is there any way to put this toolbar back where it should be (doh!),
back where it's convenient?
The Reading Mode head-up-display is not dockable and although it can be dragged anywhere on screen, it will always revert back to the middle bottom position when a new document is opened. This was one of the features introduced to maximise the document screen real estate for devices with relatively-short displays, such as netbooks, where even a docked toolbar is a noticeable intrusion into the usable space.
It's a total love or hate feature, but it seems here to stay, at least in the medium term. Of course if you exit Read Mode, the normal window chrome is shown.
The "Find" box - it's now gone, and requires the user to hit "Control F.
The reasoning I've heard on this was to make Acrobat's search box behave the same as the search boxes in web browsers, where it's hidden by default and activated by a standard keypress. It is also on the menu.
When I have a PDF file open and want to Save it or re-Save it - now requires and extra click because I have to select PDF first
Not necessarily. If you're working on a PDF and have made changes to it (dirtying the file) then the simple "Save" item on the File manu is activated. If the file hasn't changed, it's disabled specifically to show that it doesn't _need_ to be saved. You also don't need to click the "Save As..." submenu parent, just mouse over it and the submenu will fly open - so it's still click once on "File", mouse down and across, click once on "PDF". Keyboard shortcut as explained above is Shift-Ctrl-S, or via the system key sequence, ALT-F-A-P or ALT-F-A-<enter>
I know it's workflow-related, but comparatively few people ever save a PDF as a 1:1 copy PDF without the document being dirty, they usually want to save it with optimizations, extensions, etc. - which is why those have been moved to separate menu items in the Save As... submenu.

  • Error (150:30) for Acrobat Pro 9.3 and PS 3 & 4 CS

I just had a very nice call with a support person at the 800 number, but I thought that I would still post my problem in the hopes that it might still help move towards a solution.
I lost use of Acrobat Pro 9.5.1 back in early June when I updated my MAC OS to Lion (OS X 10.7.4). After I upgraded to Lion, Acrobat Pro 9.5.1 stopped working and started giving me a notice saying, "Suite Product Activation Needed".
I unistalled the program and then reinstalled Acrobat Pro 9.3.0 from the orginal Adobe CS 5 Design Standard disk. At that point I found that the reinstall still did not work and had created an additional set of problems. I stopped working on this because I was leaving my main office for the summer and figured that I would survive short term with Adobe Reader. I also figured a patch would present itself given enough time.
Now that I am back, I've found the time to revisit this. I am wondering if I somehow missed an opportunity to fix this because Lion upgraded to Mountain Lion and I upgraded the Mac OS before finding a fix for Acrobat.
I spent most of yesterday working on this and this is what I found:
    1) I cannot not upgrade Acrobat Pro at all. It is stuck on version 9.3.0. This is important because I saw 9.5.2 was released and, if it has a patch, I cannot use it because I can't get back to 9.5.1.
    2) I have been all over the boards looking for a solution. I did find the Support Document #51260 (which phone support directed me to as well). This document, "Error 'Licensing has stopped working'|MAC OS", outlines fixes up through Lion, but has not been updated to Mountion Lion.
    3) From document #51260, I went ahead and downloaded LicenseRecoveryLauncher to have it. The problem, however, is this is a PowerPC app and Mounton Lion no longer supports PowerPC apps.
    4) Because of document #51260, I tried opening my older Photoshop programs from CS 4 and CS 3. I get the same (150:30) notice with Photoshop CS4 ver 11.0.2 and just a notice saying that Licensing has topped working with Photoshop CS3 version 10.0.1.
    5) Since I'm writing this, I find that I am getting the same Licensing notice for Illustartor CS 3 & 4 and In Design CS 3 & $.
    6) The one program that I can use is Photoshop CS 5 Version 12.0.4
As I said earlier, I am wondering if I didn't miss a window of some sort to fix this by not seeing the fix for Lion as described in Document #51260. I am also wondering if the problems are related to the fact the Mac no longer supports PowerPC apps.
Regardless, the problem of not being able to run Acrobat Pro 9 still exists for me and the current fix document does not solve the issue for Mountain Lion. Is there an updated fix that does?
    I am running:
    Mac Pro (Early 2008)
    Processor  2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory  2 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB
    Software  Mac OS X 10.8.1 (12B19))
PS - I tried downloading Acrobat 9.5.1 and when I click on the installer I get a warning message saying "AcroProUpd951_all" is an application froman unkown source and am I sure that I want to open it. I did open it, but it does not run a program. It takes me to Mac HD/users/My User Name/Documents/Acrobat User Data and then there is nothing to select. I can't even slect the Acrobat Pro Icon in the apps folder. My web browser is Firefow 15.0

  • Best Solution for Creating an Onlne Purchase order form with multiple calculation fields

I am a bit confused.  Our school has a Forms Central account which works great for our registration forms but I need to find a solution for creating an online purchase form with multiple calculation fields - I know that forms central does not support calculation fields (too bad) but I know that Acrobat Pro does... soooo...
Can you create the forms in Acrobat and then somehow integrate the advanced features into forms central?  Do they talk to each other?  Is this easy to do? .... I guess another way to putting it is can you create the forms in Acrobat including all of the advanced features for payment calculation and then host it online using Forms Central to manage and collect the data? (I guess that really is my question)
Thanks (how does this compare to a solution like Formstack?)

    Hi, thanks.
The naming convention was the consistant up until a point when I read that you need a '.' syntax (?!) - does anyone know if this is true?
Attached is a version with Bernd Alheit's suggestion and with all the naming of the fields being consistant. It's still not working for me though after doing this and I'm stuck as to why, because I think it should work. I've also tried writing the calcualting line of code in the same manner that Bernd Alheit suggests before I came on here, and it wouldn't work then.
As with any coding, it must be something to which I have done, but I can't see it anywhere
Any ideas? Thanks for helping me
    Cheers

  • Unable to write to registry key for Acrobat XI - error 1406

    Hi all,
I have a problem regarding the installation of Adobe Acrobat XI 11.0.07 on an ASUS laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium OS.
In short, I am unable to complete the installation of Adobe Acrobat XI on this machine because Acrobat is not able to write the value to the registry key situated here:
         HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE --> SOFTWARE --> Microsoft --> Internet Explorer --> Toolbar.
I tried to find solutions on the internet, and have found one webpage at the Adobe Forums, which is this one: Error 1406.Could not write value Adobe ARM - and it was not very helpful, since the person asking solved his problem, but did not tell how he did. So, I found this page at Acrobat Help, called Error 1402 | Error 1406 | Acrobat, Reader where I tried the different solutions, but so far none of these have worked. What I did was to remove all previous versions of Adobe Acrobat, Reader, Air and so on. In fact, I deleted all software from Adobe in case one of these softwares were to blame, but it has not worked. But before I deleted all this software, I deleted Acrobat and Reader several times, but as you probably already have found out, it did not work. As this did not work, I tried the next solution at Acrobat Help, which was to "Set permissions to their defaults in the registry". I followed the solution completely and did everything it said, but it has not worked. As a note, I have to say that the registry key type I have problems with is called "Locked", the type is REG_DWORD and the data value is (0). Does this have anything to do with it? I am not too familiar with editing the registry. Though, I did try to change the value to (1) and updating the registry, but it did not work...
More information: nevertheless if I install the complete version of Adobe Acrobat XI or the typical installation, the same error comes up: error 1406. And I did scan my system with my antivirus software, called Bullguard, to see if there were any viruses; there were none. I also closed my antivirus software and diabled the firewall of Bullguard, but that was not succesful either, and I did a scan of my system using cmd as an administrator (sfc /scannow), and the program found some errors it could not fix. As far as I can see, it found three .dll files with errors. I have the document called sfcdetails.txt if that would be any helpful to you.
Besides that, I am not sure what to do. I did pay for Adobe Acrobat the 23rd of January, 2015, and I have not managed to make it work properly yet, and I cannot update the software, since I have this problem with the registry. I am able to use the software for what I had to use it for until now, but I would like to be able to use it for everything it stands for and update it to prevent any lapse in security.
Thank you. I hope you have any ideas for my problem and will be able to help me!
    Best regards,
    Mads

    Hi Rahul,
Thank you for your answer. Though, it did not solve my problem! I did what you said: I tried using the Adobe Acrobat cleaner tool, and afterwards, I restarted my computer. After this, I downloaded the program from your link and I tried to install the program, but I did not succeed, because the same error came up, which is this:
Error 1406. Could not write value {47833539-D0C5-4125-9FA8-0819E2EAAC93} to key \SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar.
With this error, the only options are to abort, retry or ignore the install, but none of these solves the issue, I am afraid.
But what I think it is all about is how to gain access to the registry. I followed the tutorial, I mentioned above, but I were not able to solve it... I gained administrator access to the registry, I made the current administrator account the owner of the key (the current administrator is not the original administrator of the computer, since I changed this long time ago), and I made the permissions correctly, I guess. I followed the tutorial, anyhow. Though, what confuses me, is that when pressing the button, called "Advanced", and entering the menu called "Advanced security settings for Toolbar" (I have the Danish version of Windows, excuse me if I did not translate it correctly), I see many persmission posts, two of which have the name of the current administrator account. One of these have full control, the persmissions from this are not inherited and they are used on "this key and underkeys". The second only has a special permission, it is inherited from "MACHINE\SOFTWARE\..." and it is used only on this key. How to change this, I am not sure. But I do not suspect that there should be two permissions for the same administrator account? Do you know if this is right?
    Thank you.
    Best regards,
    Mads

  • Unable to install updates for Acrobat Pro 9.0 and MS Office 2008

This is a followup post to a nagging problem last fall that prevented successful installation of product version updates for Acrobat Pro 9.0 and Microsoft Office 2008 running under OS X v10.6.5. Days of fruitless, circular pursuit of solutions from both Adobe and Microsoft tech support provided no recognition of the problem…let alone an answer.
Fortunately, a few helpful techs at a nearby Apple Store yielded results. They were initially as perplexed as their counterparts but it gratified to this customer when each recognized the problem was real and was sufficiently motivated to track down a solution.
By process of elimination it was suggested: i) reinstall the original Snow Leopard 10.6.0 upgrade disk; ii) download the v10.6.5 combo update to bring the OS current; and iii) download and install the Acrobat and Office updates. It worked—perfectly—the first time.
The consensus seems to be that a combination of many successive installations of OS and product version updates eventually produced conflicting instructions resulting in stalemate.
Remarkably, it hasn't been necessary (or appealing) to perform a clean install since some point prior to the introduction of OS X. Nor has it since. A 'rollback' to the original Snow Leopard version with one subsequent update to the current OS version appears to have cleared out a nest of remnant conflicting instructions. Kudos to Apple's tech support and Occam's Razor.

    Hello,
You can download the Acrobat 9 updates manually by following link:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows
However, PDF Maker plugin would not be enable in Outlook, as Acrobat 9 is not support with Office 2013.
Please refer to following compatibility chart:
Compatible web browsers and PDFMaker applications
You need to have Acrobat 11 to get PDF maker plugin in Office 2013.

  • Batch security for Acrobat Pro X

    Hi,
Can anyone help me with batch removing security and passwords from files with Adobe Pro X.  I have found solutions for other Acrobat versions by using Batch Processing, but that feature seems to be missing from Pro X.  I read on another board about installing "change security to none.sequ" in the sequence folders, but I am not sure how to go about that. http://acrobatusers.com/forum/actions/create-new-action-without-scripting
There does not seem to be an action for this issue.
    Thanks

Acrobat and Adobe Reader will not play YouTube video streams natively as the Terms of Use applied by Google (owners of YouTube) expressly forbid it.
Developers have to load the YouTube API player directly from Google's servers, which makes embedding a video a Flash/Flex task not a video task. There are some proof-of-concept examples from myself and Joel Geraci floating about, but Adobe has no intention to support the direct conversion of a YouTube URL into a rich media annotation. The typical YouTube 'embed' link is a link to an HTML page, not to the video itself - the direct link to the stream is dynamic and can only be obtained using the API player.
Acrobat requires that if you specify a URL for a video asset, it be either a local FLV or H.264 file, an FLV or H.264 file served from a regular http server, or a stream from a Flash Media server (rtmp/rtmpe protocols). In every case the URL must end with a valid file extension. It will not accept anything else.

  • Do you have an installer for Acrobat 6.0 Standard for Mac???

Please help me!  Can you send me an installer for Acrobat 6.0 Standard for Mac???  The Acrobat Customer Service "help" says this is the only way I can get my Acrobat going again.  It won't bother YOUR installer to share it with me.....and I must use MY OWN SERIAL NUMBERS to connect with them, so they say there's no way it could hurt you......but it would really help me!
I reinstalled my system software, and my Acrobat got corrupted in some way which will not let it communicate properly with Adobe.  I cannot upgrade because this is the only version compatible with my other software.  Please help, and send me the installer so I can get working again.  I'm grateful for anyone who can help.  Thanks, Jane.

I'm sorry you distrust me and the person from Acrobat.   He does not
usually work on the Forum, and was trying to help me as Adobe thinks this is my
only solution.   One of the other Acrobat customer service people had
suggested it, and someone had replied that perhaps he could help.   I guess you
misunderstood his posting because he was not trying to say my software had been
"trial" , he was using that as an example.   I bought, own, and have been
using my copy of Acrobat 6.0.4 since I bought it directly from Adobe in
2004........I had something happen with my operating system, and now I need to
reinstall it, but Adobe erases the installers from people's systems after 3
years.   It was the Adobe Customer Service Techie help line that suggested this
"solution".   I have my own serial number etc.......it just won't connect
to Adobe without some teensy missing part of something from the installer
software.   The only "standard" versions I see out there for sale, are for PC,
not Mac.   If you know of something else, I'd be grateful for the info.
    Thanks for your interest.   Jane.

Nice try, but I'm not stupid seeing how that was your first post, and I
would expect an employee working the forum to have a lot more posts than
that.  Also, the Acrobat 6 installer was never done as trial software.  That
option only came about with later software as is done currently.  You do
need a serial number to install it or it will not install anything.  If you
need the installer so badly, you can get it at Amazon: http
    ://www.amazon.com/Adobe-Acrobat-6-0-Standard-VERSION/dp/B00008ZGRY
There are used copies being sold starting at $19.99, just follow the link

  • Special Standard printer only for acrobat reader, is this possible? Registry Hack

In my networking earea are a lot of printers also a big toshiba copying mashine.
While printing a pdf file to it with an PCL6 printer driver it takes a lot of time to print this.
When i take a Postscript driver it runs faster ...
so when my users will print pdf's it is difficult to explain them how to print ... an own standard printer for acrobat reader would solve this problem.
Does anyone have a solution? is there some registry hack?
    regards 2CV6

In Windows (don't know if this is the case on Mac) in a corporate environment where you are connected to printers via verbose network paths, you can't see the entire path.  The "printer name" gets truncated.  Since the name of the printer is at the right end of the path, you can't see which printer is which.
It would be handy if they had a function that allowed you to scroll to the right of the printer list and/or throw up a tool tip that gives the entire path.  I'm surprised this hasn't been flagged as a pretty significant issue.

  • Is there a solution for graphs that do not translate from Excel to PDF?

We are working on an Excel Spreadsheet with graphs but when we create a PDF of the sheet the graph does not contain the ledger or values. Is there a solution to this problem. We have tried both printing to PDF and exporting to PDF.

Just a note: If you want to print the PDF to paper, it may still not print correctly even though it looks correct on the PDF document- the printed graph may flow off of the paper sheet.  When you click Print, a print dialog box opens with some options and a preview.  If the preview does not look correct, change the size option to "Shrink oversized pages".

you have a ps cs4 license for mac and you have some way of finding your serial number.
if yes, download an install the installation file.  if you already have the installation file, what is its name and file extension?  (eg, if it's one file, it should be a dmg file.)

  • Problems running updater for Acrobat Pro

Since I upgraded to a Windows Vista computer 4 years ago I have had problems running Acrobat Pro Updater. This goes all the way back to v7. The installer always fails with error 1601 'Can't find network path.' I went through all of Adobe's troubleshooting docs. The only method that I found to a solution for the 1601 error that worked was to edit the registry by deleting all MS Office installer entries. Then running the updater. Then reinstalling the registry entries. Not a big deal one time but a pain in the *** over the last couple of years. And not terrifically elegant. After completely unstalling Acrobat Pro and installing new versions and CS Suites several times, the problem remains.
Surely there must be a better way to deal with these updates.

This has been a pattern since I started using a Vista workstation in 2007 with Acrobat 7 Pro and the original CS Suite. I'm now on Acrobat 9.x Pro and CS5. At one point I reverted from Office 2007 to Office 2003 thinking it might make a difference. It did not. So, it would appear that any version of Office and any version of Acrobat have this problem with some Vista installations. This workstation is running all current Vista service packs and patches.

  • Providing DRC solution for ATMs in the enterprise network

    Hi all,
I am looking for ideas on how to provide a Disaster Recovery solution for thousands of ATMs (Automated Teller Machine) deployed in the bank enterprise network. The solution should consider
    the following facts:-
1.- Having the ATMs switch the connection to the Server at DRC shouldn't be automatic. This situation might last for the next few years until DRC becomes mirror image of primary data center.
2.- The ATM servers at the primary and disaster recovery center is single server equipped with high availability (Tandem). I mean to say, there is no SLBs invloved in the connection
3.- The application running on the ATMs is calling the ATM Server by hardcoded IP address in the application. The bank is willing to visit the ATMs to change once and forever.
I see source natting as the most appropriate solution, however your opanion and expertise are appreciated.
    Thanks
    Sami

    Sami,
what kind of solution are you looking for ?
Is the concern the connection from ATM to central location ?
Or is it a concern about the server at the central location ?
For connection issues, I don't see any other solution than providing multiple lines.
If the concern is the single server, you could have a loadbalancer somewhere in your network.
The loadbalancer can use probes to check the health of the server.
If the primary fails, or is unreachable, you can automatically redirect the traffic to the standby.
ATM machines will point to the virtual ip (you could reuse the current ip and assign a new one to the servers).
Not sure where to place the loadbalancer without a better idea of the problem to solve and the network.
    Gilles.
