*** SOLUTIONS POST HERE - To the iOS 5 & iCloud Apple ID Fiasco...

PLEASE POST ALL YOUR SOLUTIONS HERE
There are so many topics for this now, it's mind numbing to find some answers.
I'll do my best to post some realizations that I've had, and methods to work around what Apple hasn't properly explained yet.
Issue: E-mail for my Apple ID says it's "already taken" and I need to reset my password
DISCOVERY #1
When first setting up iOS 5 and iCloud on a device that has just been updated, it will automatically plug in your short formed,
username for the Apple ID and insert a saved password. On the next screen, it asks you for an email address for an Apple ID.
If you use the same email address that you always have, then it will say it's already taken.. Why is this?
The first login screen when setting up iOS 5 is asking for an email NOT a username. What your device will
automatically insert needs to be backspaced out. You'll notice the form says [example: [email protected]].
Once you put your actual email in instead of a username it will allow you to continue with setup.
DISCOVERY #2
Even when I get my iCloud set up, it tells me my email is not verified in my settings. Yet I don't get a confirmation email from
Apple in order to verify. If I login to appleid.apple.com with my email it says I havn't verified the email still. If I ask it to send
me a verification email, it won't send. If I create a new email and use that as my primary email, it'll send a verification.
I now have a separate iTunes Apple ID and a brand new email address to process my iCloud Apple ID... Do I really have to use 2?
No. After a very frustrating process of creating a separate Apple ID email and verifying through appleid.apple.com,
I logged out and decided to log back in to appleid.apple.com using my already established iTUNES username and
password... NOT the email address associated with my iTunes username!
It then showed me my quiet_dime Apple ID and asked me to link my email address I've used with it for years
to make the iCloud Apple ID and iTunes Apple ID paired into one login/profile.
I'm not sure why this is necessary, because it was already linked before iCloud. But head to http://appleid.apple.com, login with your
iTunes username and password (not your email) and link your two already existing accounts together into one.
I know there's a lot more problems than this, but if you have a FIX, please post it here!

I'm so screwed it's not even funny.
It seems I've destroyed my itunes username as nothing works to log in with that anymore.
I CAN log into itunes using my email address.
I can not update nor download any apps because my itunes username is automatically entered and no password works.
When I got to appleid and ask for email verification of my itunes ID, it says an email verification has been sent, but none arrives at any of my inboxes.  Where it goes, nobody knows.
Not knowing how much it would screw me up, I deleted the new account I created in iCloud and TRIED to log in with my regular apple ID.  It says I need to verify my email address.
When I go to apple ID sure enough, my email address is marked as needing to be verified.  Clicking on that link does nothing.
I FOUND the email I got some time ago when I had to verify my email address and clicked the "Verify Now" link in that and the page I went to told me that MY EMAIL ADDRESS HAD ALREADY BEEN VERIFIED and that is IS VERIFIED!  Except is isn't.
So now I cannot use iCloud, cannot download any apps, cannot updated any apps, cannot home shrare my itunes, cannot log in with my itunes username, and cannot seem to fix any of this.
I'm pretty screwed and there doesn't seem to be any way for me to fix any of this.

If it is still using IOS 6:
You can force iPad into Recovery Mode. Follow step 1 to 6 very closely.

I have two different 5s's with two different phone numbers but they are both using the same iCloud/apple account. After upgrading to iOS8 when I get a phone call on one phone both phones ring. One phone is for work and one is for private and I don't need both phones to ring from one call. It's bizarre.......is this supposed to be like this? If so where can I turn it off?? And while we are at it iOS8 has installed iBooks on both of my phones and iTunes won't let me uninstall it. I don't need or want iBooks on my phones.

    Hi,
There are two easy fixes to this.
One, you can set up Family Sharing, in which you can have two different iCloud Accounts, yet still share the same apps, music, media etc.
Two, go to Settings and turn-off "Handoff". This can be found under the General page.
    Hope this helps!

  • HT201210 been trying to restore ipod touch for days after updating itunes. keep getting error #9. Tried it on 2 computers, with vista + XP. tried all the solutions posted. nothing is working. Thanks Apple. Didn't have this problem before updating itunes!

Been trying to restore Ipod touch for days after updating Itunes. Error code #9. Stuck on restore screen. Tried all the solutions posted. Tried on 2 computers, Vista + XP. No device shown on computer. Thanks Apple! Didn't have this problem before update. How about rolling back your update?

    Error 9
This error occurs when the device unexpectedly loses its USB connection with iTunes. This can occur if you manually disconnect the device during the restore process. You can resolve this issue by using USB troubleshooting, using a different Dock Connector or Lightning Connector to USB cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.

  • I have an iPhone and an iPod with the same iCloud/Apple ID but I don't want have the same stuff on them?

Ok so I have an iPhone and an iPod which share the same iCloud/appleID. I did this today when I got my new iPhone I put in my iCloud details which put everything I had on my iPod onto my iPhone(I was unaware this happened). I'm happy with all the apps added straight on and my contacts added but I don't want to have all my photos from my iPod on my iPhone. I want to keep the photos from my iPod on my iPod and when I take pictures on my iPhone they stay just on my iPhone. I'm wondering if this is possible as it's with the iCloud? I have previous synced my iPod on my laptop when adding music ect but I don't know if that effects iCloud I don't really know but I'm worried if I delete all the pictures off of my iPhone then sync that then sync my iPod into the same laptop will it wipe those pictures since there off my iPhone? I don't really get how all this works so help is very much appreciated!!  And I hope what I've wrote makes sense to someone!

Welcome to the Apple Community lizzie.
If you don't want photo stream to sync your photos between devices go settings > iCloud and uncheck photos, do this on each device.

  • How to edit a post here in the forum?

I have noticed several posts in which the original author of the post went back into it to edit it.
How is that done? There have been many times I wanted to go back and edit.
    Thank you.

Jabberwock, the experiment went like a slide on ice.
I did say that I would return in 15 minutes to edit a second time, but I got tied up in other things and returned to my office in about 40 minutes. I clicked onto my post as it existed in the forum list, but when it came up, it did not have that icon of the pen, so I figured that too much time had elapsed and I just let it go.

Edit: Oh oh. I think I discovered what might have happened. When I sent this message to be posted, a copy of the message remained "behind." THAT message had the pen icon on it. So my mistake was to go to the forum topic list for my message rather than to return to that particular page that acts like a holding tank for messages that I recently posted.
I might be way off base here, and if I am I hope someone clarifies so that anyone who is just starting out won't be misled by what I say here.....

  • Another solution that worked for the iOS 6 WiFi issue...

After the iOS 6 install my wifi connect just wouldn't connect anymore. I tried everything in the book. I was even changing settings on my router at one point. Nothing worked. It would connect for a second, drop off and then try to bring up a login screen from Apple.com with the message "Page cannot be found."
This is weird but it solved my problem both on my iPhone 4S and my iPad 3:
    Settings>Safari>Clear History
    Settings>Safari>Clear Cookies and Data
Hold down the Sleep button until it brings up the Power Off slider. Power off and then turn on again.
Reconnect to wifi network using Settings>Wi-Fi
Now everything is hunky dory. Super weird!

Thanks for the suggestion. I followed them to the letter. I have a time capsule and a base station. I switched the time capsule as you suggested. I got rid of the previous connection on the ipad and connected. At first when it started I had full bars. I walked to the opposite side of the house (2000 sq. ft house) was going strong and it dropped to one bar. If I turn the ipad off for awhile full strength comes back. Unfortunately, in my experience no joy.

  • I really am struggling to like the upgrade, but the screensaver problems are awful...I have tried most of the solutions offered here, and the problem still persists...PLEASE fix it, Apple. I wish I had not upgraded my ipad.

I am really struggling to like this upgrade, but the screensaver problems are so disappointing...I have tried most of the suggested solutions but the outsized photo problem still persists on my ipad. Pretty close to a deal breaker!  Please fix this, Apple.  I really wish I had not upgraded...can it be undone?  I really dislike the camera roll, too : (

No one from Apple monitors these forums, so it isn't the place to voice complaints or suggestions. Go here:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
It's the best place to make complaints, recommendations, or just mention stuff.
    There's a screensaver with iOS? I don't think so.

  • IOS5 or not ?  I have been reading all the post here for the last few day and am not hearing to many people rave over IOS5. So what's the answer, update or stay as is.

    Wondering what to do.

I'm on a first gen iPad and apart from the lack of multitasking gestures (which is only on the second gen), there is nothing that I've found that I don't like or won't be able to get used to. Apart from anything else the iCloud features will probably come in useful. You should also remember that people tend to post on support forums like these because they have problems and/or questions - those who havn't had problems don't have a reason to post.
But ultimately the choice is down to you - you don't have to update. You will find that over time apps will start to have iOS 5 as a requirement (the current versions of Pages, Numbers, Keynote already do), so at some point you will probably need to do so if one of your existing apps gets updates that you'd like to have, and/or a new app is released that you want - but you can wait until if/when that happens, the choice is yours.

  • Adobe Flash plug in still crashing after attempting both solutions posted here. Works for a day then crashes again.

My Adobe Flash plug in is still crashing. I first attempted the Update Flash. It worked for a day before it started crashing again. So I went back to the page and attempted the 2nd solution of downgrading flash to 10.3. Again it worked for a day or two but now is giving me the same issue. I am getting extremely frustrated.

Thank you. I uninstalled both and reinstalled 11.5. It is working currently. Hopefully it will continue!

  • FIX the long backups, not disable them. Solution is here!

NOTE: This process was performed on an iPod Touch 2.0.2 with iTunes 7.7.1.11 on a PC running Windows XP. The process is the same (or similar) for the iPhone.
+*My backups used to take 4 hours. Now they take just minutes, even with 40+ apps*+ installed including large apps like Texas Hold 'em, Brain Challenge, and Vay. No, I am not exaggerating. A fresh sync generally takes no more than 5 minutes from the time I plug my iPod in to the time I disconnect.
I do not guarantee this process will work for you. I can't do that. But it has worked for a lot of other people. This fix is an adaptation from geauxracerx's solution posted here. Read what others have said. I do not take credit for the solution, but I added in a few steps and gave a little more detailed info to fill in the blanks, fix problems and answer the questions I ran into when following geauxracerx's instructions.
Extraordinary long backups are caused by an error when an app (or apps) was installed or updated, particularly if you have ever installed or updated using the App Store on the device itself rather than iTunes. Even if you were never aware that there was a problem, they can arise and will cause problems with the backup process. Maybe you did have a problem during an update or install. Maybe the update stalled, or the App Store crashed. These issues are very likely what have been causing your long backups and you didn't even know it. During the backup process these errors cause it to drag and pause for a very long time before it gets moving again. From your view, you just see a normal backup that is taking hours, and undoubtedly annoying you to no end. On the inside, iTunes is trying desperately to get past a roadblock that it doesn't know where it came from.
This is how to fix the problem. *This is not a quick fix, but it is an effective fix. And it is a FIX, not a band aid.* Depending on how many apps you have installed, this can take several hours to complete. *You will also lose all game scores and any other data stored in your apps.* You will be starting fresh. It is an inconvenience, but in the end, you will be rewarded with quick, efficient backups, the way Apple intended. And you will never have to dread the
    iTunes backup again.
    The Process:
    1. Open iTunes, go to Edit>Preferences>Syncing and remove all previous backups. Also click "Disable automatic syncing for all iPhones and iPods"
    2. In your system file structure, locate the backup files for iTunes.
    On Windows: C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
    On a Mac: Users/YOURACCOUNT/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup
Delete ALL files and folders inside the Backup folder.
    3. Plug in iPod. On the Applications tab, uncheck sync apps. Click sync. This will remove all apps on your iPod, it will also backup the ipod. This backup will be very fast, and will recreate the backup folders you deleted in
    step 2.
    4. If there are any apps left on your ipod, touch and hold the icon until it starts to wiggle, then touch the X to delete the app. Delete all apps left on your ipod. Then sync again.
    5. After the sync is complete, disconnect the iPod and do a hard restart by holding down the sleep/power button until the slider appears, slide to power off. Wait 5 seconds and push the power button again and wait for the ipod to boot up.
    6. Now begin adding apps back to your ipod one by one. On the Applications tab, click "Sync applications" AND "Selected applications".
    7. Click one app and sync. After the sync is complete, right click on your ipod under Devices in the left column of iTunes. Click "Back Up" and allow the backup to complete.
    8. Repeat step 7 for each app you want to install. Be sure to backup after each install. As you add more and more apps, the backup will take longer and longer as the process scans apps for changes. An initial backup can also be long for a particularly large application. However, ONLY the initial backup after you install an app will take a long time. Subsequent backups are very quick. Even these "long" backups are just minutes long, sometimes up to 15 minutes in my experience.
    9. When you are finished installing and backing up all apps, go to Edit>Preferences>Syncing and enable automatic syncing for all iPhones and iPods.
    10. Unplug and plug your device back in just for kicks. Let it back up and sync. Better?
    Notes:
The very first time an application is backed up, all critical data is written to your hard drive. This is why the backups are so long the first time. Afterward, only data changes are written, so backups are much shorter.
Backup times will continue to vary based on how many apps were altered since the last sync. If you've used one app since the last backup, your backup will be very short. If you've used 20 apps, the backup will be longer. But you will be rid of the dreaded hour (or more) long backup, that is a promise.
Now that your apps are installed and backing up correctly, the number one rule is to *never, ever install or update apps through the App Store on the iPod*. ONLY install and update through iTunes, and backup after every install or update. The App Store on the iPod is still unstable and can cause lock ups, crashes and freezes. And it is the culprit in these long backup times. Avoid it until the bugs are ironed out.
Also, do not be tempted to disable backups using programs or code edits available online. Your backups are crucial in the event of a restore. Backups contain all of your personal data like game scores, notes, icon arrangement, application data, etc. And it's not a matter of if you'll have to restore one day, it's when, and you'll be glad you have a backup when you do.

Thanks for your reply, the trackpad is 9 months old, but it was a christmas present so I dont have the receipt.
Also Im in Dubai, which pretty much means that your warranty lasts as long as they remember your face in the shop buying it!
I have read through over 10 pages of people with the same problem as mine here on the support site, the only variable is different solutions
work for some people, and nothing works for others.
I found turning my iPhone off fixed the problem for 2 days!!
Most people seem to only have the issue with Mavericks, and a few suffered with the Lions.
The movies are playing fine, they just keep pausing and playing continuously from phantom clicks.
Its got so bad now, I dont even have enough control to restart the machine!
I would simply chance buying a new trackpad... but after I received a phantom click about 20 seconds AFTER the pad was switched off, I dont wanna go throwing more money at this needlessly.
I wish Apple would take these sort of things seriously, if I cant get this sorted in a week, Im gonna have to either upgrade my Macbook to Mavericks (which I did before, then spent 2 days reverting back to Snow Leopard)
Or im gonna have to buy a PC and Cubase!
If any one at Apple is reading this (I do believe I just heard an echo!) Some of us rely on your equipment for work, and we do seem to pay a very big premium just for the privilege of the little white logo.
Is there any chance you could show your existing users a hint of respect or common courtesy by taking these issues seriously?
It is after all our loyalty to your brand over the years that put you were you are today.
