[SOLVED] Avant-Window-Navigator issues

Hey guys,
For the first time I'm trying out arch linux and I'd just like to say it's the best distro I've ever used. I got very far very easily on this distro by just using the arch wiki and the forms. You guys have a fantastic community.
Anyways I'm posting because I've had issues with avant-window-navigator. The biggest one being that I cannot move the dock. When I start awn-settings I get this error.
/usr/bin/awn-settings:1064: GtkWarning: Failed to get constuct only property adjustment of monitor_align_hscale with value `adjustment1'
  self.wTree.add_from_file(self.XML_PATH)
And the result is that the "Position" slider is locked in one place. On top of that I've been having issues with different applets (specifically the main menu applets) where they just crash whenever I try to use them. I'm assuming those are just missing dependencies?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Appears to be the same problem as with exaile and xfce-panel. Downgrade gtk2 or try to change the value by editing the gconf files.

    I get the impression that the file "/usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop" is missing I would copy another random file to that name, run avant-window-navigator, remove the launcher and then delete the surrogate file.

  • [SOLVED] Avant window navigator runs twice at startup!

    Hi, ive installed AWN and put itin to session menu in XFCE4 to run a startup.
    When i type:
    avant-window-navigator
    It runs fine, but at startup, it runs twice!
    I can see a AWN behind the other. This also happened in KDE4.
    Last edited by B4RR13N705 (2009-08-04 01:26:22)

    In your AWN option menu, do you have the little box checked that says: "Start AWN on login"? (Or something close to that) Try unchecking it, and removing your start up entry from the session manager as well. Test to make sure it does not start when you log back in, then JUST add it to your start up session menu. AWN will figure out it was added and check the box for you.
    I had this problem for a long time in Gnome, and contrived a massive workaround where I had a short script that started it and added the script to the start up menu. Just adding it once is much cleaner.  It's a quark of AWN's built in start up script.
    Alternatively, you could let AWN start itself by checking that box rather than adding it to the session manager after logging back into your XFCE session.
    I hope this helps!

  • [Solved] How to Install avant-window-navigator-bzr

    Trying to install awn-bzr because it doesn't require a compositer.  Never installed using bzr before...  Here is my pathetic attempt... No laughing
    tried
    yaourt -S avant-window-navigator-bzr
    failed because i wasn't logged into launchpad
    so i tried logging on: bzr lp-login (myusername)
    failed because I didn't have a ssh key.
    so I followed the instructions and made one.
    trying yaourt again fails
    searched arch forums and tried bzr branch lp:awn
    and got some weird results but I'm lost -_-.... no idea what to do next.
    I'm doing everything wrong aren't I?
    Last edited by Loafers (2010-02-24 06:59:42)

    Can you please show the exact output? I'm sure you don't need a launchpad account to get the source.
    I think I know what message you are talking about and from memory you just need to wait it out until the source has downloaded. It shouldn't stop you in any way.

  • Avant-window-navigator doesn't start & problems changing gnome languag

    hey there everybody!
    this is my first post in this forum after a few days trying arch:)
    simply love it... doesn't require too much efort(but if it did it would be a pleasure:) )
    well let's stick to the issue...
    here it goes:
    i've searched through the web and i've found that to change my language to portuguese i would have to edit rc.conf so it would be like this:
    LOCALE="pt-BR.UTF8"
    HARDWARECLOCK="localtime"
    TIMEZONE="Portugal"
    KEYMAP="pt-latin1"
    CONSOLEFONT="Agafari-12"
    CONSOLEMAP=
    USECOLOR="yes"
    the problem is that after this it is still in english and when i type locale -a i get this
    [root@myhost foka]# locale -a
    C
    POSIX
    en_US
    en_US.iso88591
    en_US.iso885915
    en_US.utf8
    i haven't found any gnome-i18n alike's so i really need help on this one although i'm confortable with english
    the secound problem.. i've installed avant-window-navigator from source but when i try to start it or use configuration tools i get this
    Failed to execute child process "avant-window-navigator" (No such file or directory)
    i hope you can help me:)
    good hacking:D

    i can show you my PATH:

  • Xfce4 and avant window navigator

    So i have installed awn on top of my xfce4 desktop and now im having some issues with applets. Most of the applets i try to add crash instantly. Also i have received warning messages of missing dependencies like python-notify ( Installed via pacman works for now) and python-feedparser which is installed but it says it isn't. So what can i do about crashing applets and missing feedparser?

    Sounds to me like a python2/3 conflict. python-notify and python-feedparser are python2 only.
    Check the applet .desktop files in /usr/share/avant-window/navigator/applets to see if they are launching using python or python2. If they are using python, this means they are launching in python3, hence the crash.
    Cheers.

    This is an error with the version of the Pilot Link macro that recently hit the Arch repos.
    To fix it, edit /usr/share/aclocal/pilot-link.m4 and comment out the first line:
    #AC_DEFUN([IT_PROG_INTLTOOL], [AC_PREREQ([2.50])dnl

  • Something wrong with avant-window-navigator

    I got to install with compiling, but when I type the command or click the icon on the menu, it says  "bash: avant-window-navigator: command not found". I believe I have all the dependencies.

    try using these "locate, which, whereis" to find the executable then put in path
    Also check it has the right permissions if you know where it is.

  • Avant Window Navigator problems

    Since the one in the AUR is OOD, I'm trying to install the latest version ( 0.4.2).  In the documentation it says that I have to install libdesktop-agnostic, so I get it from the recommended source.
    However, after extraction, I can't get it to install.
    I'm new to Arch so it's likely I'm doing something wrong, I've been using it for a couple of days and not hit such an elementary problem yet but now, extraction and installation of a common program has me stumped.
    I'm running enlightenment.
    Since this is a fairly popular bit of software I was hoping someone out there who has already had success give me a little point in the right direction on how to get this setup.
    Cheers.

  • [Solved]Xfce 4.8 Menus and Avant-Window-Navigator.

    Does anyone know of any applets for AWN that have support for xfce 4.8?   I've got xfce set up exactly the way I like it right now, but I'd love to fix the menu issues in AWN.
    I've been searching for a solution to this for most of the afternoon, and I seem to only come up with outdated information and current applets that just lead to broken download links.    Is there a package in the AUR that i'm overlooking?
    Last edited by Beelzebud (2011-04-26 05:51:53)

    Well I found a solution that works.   I'm just using alacarte to edit a custom menu, then removing it to get rid of the bloat that comes with it.   Really liking xfce.

  • [SOLVED] Steam windows flashing, issues with overlay

    I made a short video to demonstrate the problem here.
    I am using the catalyst drivers (from Vi0L0's AUR), xorg 1.13
    A similar issue occurs with smplayer and the video showing through other windows.
    Any ideas?  Thanks!
    **EDIT**
    So I re-read the catalyst install guide and it looks like xorg 1.14 is now supported.  Deleted the reference to the 1.13 repository, installed, and it seems to be working.  RTFM works!

    Once you install xcompmgr you'll need to do two things:
    /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/70-nvidia-composite-hotfix.conf
    Section "Extensions"
    Option "Composite" "Enable"
    EndSection
    ~/.xinitrc
    ...snip...
    # Workaround For Hardware Accelerated Video Glitching On NVidia
    hsetroot -solid "#000000" # Stops The Gray Background
    xcompmgr -n &
    # Start My Window Manager Of Choice
    exec my_window_manager
    Notes:
    xcompmgr's -a flag is not entirely reliable and prone to kill rendering on a direct draw movement event (Eg the Steam info slide box or dragging an image in a browser.)
    The hsetroot utility and line is only needed if you get a gray background/boarder when you start xcompmgr.
    nvidia-settings by default disables composite features in it's XOrg config save. If you've used nvidia-settings and saved it's output (Eg. 20-nvidia.conf) you either need to change the extensions section to re-enable this, or just add this section in it's own high numbered config to override it. The latter is documented so that this fix is a module, reminding of its removal when/if this problem is fixed upstream.
    Edit: I had it crash again while I was using no flags. I think I've now fixed it with the -n to enable transparency. Just know your millage may vary.
    I'd go ahead and mark as solved if it works for you too Speedy Consoles.
    If you're using lxdm, you should append this to
    ~/.config/lxsession/LXDE/autostart
    @hsetroot -solid "#000000"
    @xcompmgr -n

  • Openbox +xcompmgr + Avant window navigator

    Running arch + AWN and it works pretty good, except one thing, and that thing sure is annoying! It is like AWN occupies all the space on the bottom of the window. Like all the scrollbars/button on the bottom 50 pixels are unusable. I can't click on them,And I can't use autohide on AWN either. It hides, and it stays hidden!

    the cairo-dock that pacman offered didnt agree with me either, but i had more success with the svn version
    get from svn by doing
    svn co http://svn.berlios.de/svnroot/repos/cai … cairo-dock
    and compile/install manually

  • Why does my avant window navigator look so horrible?

    I have seen loads of screenshots where awn looks awesome, but mine just looks horrible...

    Am i missing configuration files, or what?

    by the screenshot, I'm guessing you're not using svg icons, try some svg icon and see how it looks, it might be that avant is not bitmap friendly.
