[SOLVED] Conky Not Displaying Unicode Characters Correctly

I have some music that requires unicode characters in order to be displayed properly. The artist name is Röyksopp, but it is displayed like this:
http://i.imgur.com/rRBDxZn.png
Does anyone know how to either make it display correctly (Röyksopp), or at least remove the umlauts to make it almost correct(Royksopp)? I've set the locale, so it displays correctly in both i3bar and urxvt, but it had no effect on conky.
EDIT: Here is my conkyrc.

I know that this font works because I tried it in urxvt and it displayed correctly.
Also, I tried "override_utf8_locale yes" and it still was incorrect.

  • Illustrator CS6 is not displaying unicode characters properly.

I need to access certain unicode characters (namely the x/8 fractions). I have the appropriate font installed, and the characters display in every other program on the machine, but they are not displaying correctly in Illustrator. If I type the characters in using alt codes, the 3/8 character displays as "\", the 1/8 character displays as "[", etc. Is there some setting I need to change to enable support for Unicode characters?
    *UPDATE*
If I type the character in another program, copy it, and paste it into Illustrator, it shows up as a box with an X through it. If I highlight the box and change the font to one that supports the character, then the character does display correctly. This is, however, quite inconvenient. Is there a way to type the character directly into Illustrator?

  • New iTunes update (10.6) not displaying asian characters correctly.

Just updated my iTunes to 10.6 and the new version is not displaying the asian characters in the artist or song titles. They are appearing in the album. Have restarted my computer multiple times.

Same issue going on for me. Like daskaea said, it doesn't show up in the album grid, but shows up fine everywhere else. I personally am encountering this issue for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean scripts.
Attempts to clear the name and re-enter it manually also do not work.

I try to copy my songs from iTunes (9.0 running Mac OS X 10.6 Russian interface language) with tags containing Cyrillic characters (song name, artist, etc.) into iTunes 9.1 (russian interface) on netbook running Windows 7 Starter English. I do it via Home sharing option in iTunes.
Some songs with Russian titles displayed OK, but some of them display wrong characters (see attached screenshot).

  • Webpage not displaying certain characters correctly. Similar question already asked but not quite the same

I am using version 4.0.1 and it was a clean install after I reformatted my hard drive and did all the updates. I have a Dell Dimension 3000 with a 3.0 Ghz CPU with Hyperthreading and 2 GB memory.
On this one particular website I belong to, where a colon is supposed to be, I get this little square box with the letters FF IR in it. I have the default settings for Western (ISO-8859-1) for the Default Character Encoding.
I've asked other members of that website and they have the same settings, but they see the colon and not the FF IR.
I will include a link for the site and I don't think you have to sign up to view it and I did a screen shot for both Mozilla/Firefox 4.0.1 and Internet Explorer 8.0.6001.18702 but in Internet Explorer, where the colon is supposed to be there is just a little square.
I will include a link to the site and if you scroll down to post # 2, you will see the screen shots of the problem for both Mozilla/Firefox and Internet Explorer.

I know you can't help with Microsoft programs and that is fine as I only used Internet Explorer for Microsoft Updates and to download Mozilla/Firefox.
Initially the responses from the site owner didn't have any problems on his end, but another person gave me some tips but they didn't work and then we found out that it is indeed supposed to be a colon.
I didn't have this problem with earlier versions, but when I had to reformat and reinstall everything, the only version I could download from Mozilla/Firefox was 4.0.1

I'm not sure what screen shot you are referring to, but if it is in your initial reply, before you typed the thing about''' "I do not seem to have a font to display" ''' But I see the FF IR and then the FF IR with quotation marks on each side.
Then pretty much of the whole page instead of having different characters for each font set, it shows several rows of FF IR.
I did notice the same problem today with a site I belong to that I take surveys for, the whole page was filled with FF IR
If the oxFFoo - oxFFFF block, I actually went to the search function for the page the link you included brings me too and neither of them showed up so I don't know what to do. I did earlier try to do a search for how to add the : font to my Unicode and the first thing that came up was "Basic Latin" Unicode Character 'COLON' (U+003A
Someone from the website I'm having the problem with told me something about UTF-8 encoding and gave me a link to check why Firefox doesn't detect UTF-8 encoding. I checked the fonts and under UTF, it starts with UTF-16 so I guess I have to figure a way to add UTF-8.
I thank you again for your help.

  • [SOLVED]Xfce4 not displaying any characters.

I got this weird problem with xfce4.
I have an old machine I want to use as a bittorrent client. For this I want to use xfce4 (with azureus).
So now that I've installed xfce4 none of the characters on the screen are shown correctly. They're all just squares?
Thinking I had a font problem, I started going through all my installed fonts, and even installing some extra fonts. None of it helped.
I'm not sure if it is related to the problem, but when I kill X.org there are some messages in the console. They look like this one:
Pango-WARNING **: pango_cairo_font_get_scaled_font called with bad font, expect ugly output.
I've also been trying different settings for the locale, thinking it might be a localization problem. That didn't help either.
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong here?
If there are any config or log files you would like to see, just let me know.
    EDIT:
Nevermind. It never stops to amaze me how incredibly stupid I can be.
Pango of course needs the sdl_pango package to function properly! Of course I was under the impression that all dependencies were handled automatically?
Have a nice New Years Eve everyone.

    Hello Anubha,
I am having a similar problem on my machine.  I was using Word 2008 and I created a PDF inside Word.
I am opening the file on the system itself and I am running Windows 8.1.  I am using Version 11 of Reader.
When the PDF I created (my resume) attempts to open, it says:  cannot find or create the file Times, Bold.  Some characters may not display or print correctly.
However, the entire Reader keeps freezing and will not allow me to open or test print the document.  Also, it is not displaying any of the Bold Times New Roman Print.  Can you please help?  Thanks.

  • Cannot extract the embedded font 'F2'. Some characters may not display or print correctly.

This question was previously published but no answer has been found.
    Error message is :
"Cannot extract the embedded font 'F2'. Some characters may not display or print correctly."
Many pdf documents display this error with Adobe Reader 8.1.0. We have errors for embedded fonts 'F0','F3','F7' and so on.
It looks like a Adobe Reader bug because :
    - All PDF files can be opened with Acrobat Reader 5.0.5, 6.x and 7.x, can't be opened with 8.1.0 version.
    - the 8.1.1 update removes only the bug for 'F0' error message (issue #1572280).
    The solution :
    - to publish a 8.1.2 update to fix this important bug
    - is there a registry parameter or tool option to disable the checking added in 8.x version of Adobe Reader ? The 8.x version catches more errors to be compliant with Adobe specification but Adobe reader must be
compliant with all documents generated by third party products.
This Adobe Reader bug applies to Windows Vista, XP Pro SP2, 2000.
    Thx,
    Regards

Just to let you know, for anyone else with this problem. I had this problem occur on a MAC when you tried to do save to PDF in excel. This was all happening at the point of generation of the PDF in my case.
The fix was to delete ALL the microsoft preferences, but perahps only the font cache needed to be deleted.
I deleted the following areas from the local users userprofile on the mac. On windows, I would probably log in as a differnet user to try to see if the problem just exsists for one particular user.
Here are the sections I deleted:
    Library/caches/metadata/Microsoft*
Username/library/preferences/com.microsoft* ( and anyhting with microsoft in it)
I did leave the entourage settings though.
hope it helps someone with a similar issue.

Under file properites, the following font TTF5BC9A0t00 is recognised by Adobe as true type and custom encoding. Anyone has any suggestions for fix??

BUT, does it say "embedded" or "embedded subset" next to the font name. If not, the font isn't included in the file and if you don't have it, it can't display or print it.
The file creator will need to embed the fonts properly although "some" fonts don't allow embedding. This could be one of them.

  • Displaying unicode characters

    Dear all,
I am currently dealing with a character displaying problem on the MAM.
We will soon go live in China. Until now we only had European countries, with a Latin alphabet.
Now however this changes, so we need to use Unicode to display all characters correctly.
Therefor I have converted all our custom language files to language files with Unicode escape characters.
    e.g.:
    EQUIPMENTS_EQU_MAT_NR=设备材料号码
Now the strange thing is that when we login in Chinese, everything is displayed correctly, but when we login in German or Polish (countries which also have some special characters), we don't see everything displayed correctly.
This is the code how we display an entry from the language file on the screen:
    <%@page language="java" contentType="text/html; charset=UTF-8"%>
    meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text-html; charset=UTF-8"
    <jsp:useBean id="res" class="com.sap.ip.me.api.services.MEResourceBundle" scope="session"></jsp:useBean>
    <%=PageUtil.ConvertISO8859toUTF8(res.getString("CONFIRMATIONS_HEADER_DETAIL"))%>
For Chinese language, the characters are displayed correctly in this way.
    e.g.: 最后一次同步时间
However Polish characters and German characters are not (always) displayed correctly.
    e.g.: Wskaźnik pierwszego usuniÄu2122cia usterki
The only 'difference' that I can see is that for China, every character in the language file has a special Unicode notation, while for Polish and German characters, only the special characters are displayed in special Unicode notation.
    e.g.:
      EQUIPMENTS_EQU_MAT_NR=Numer materia\u00c5‚u sprz\u00c4™tu
FYI, I've converted the files to Unicode escape characters with the java util native2ascii.exe.
Is there anyone who knows how to solve this issue?
    Thanks already in advance!
    Best regards,
    Diederik

    Dear all,
I've found the reason for this problem.
    Thanks anyway for your time!
The problem was that when converting the language files to Unicode escape characters, the source format was wrong. The files where saved as UTF-8, but the JAVA tool native2ascii is not taking UTF-8 as standard input format. So the resulting Unicode file was not containing the correct Unicode characters.
I've re-generated the language files with the parameter -encoding UTF-8, and now everything is displayed correctly!
    Have a good day!

  • After Effects error: could not convert Unicode characters. (23 :: 46)

    Hello,
I'm getting the following error message:
After Effects error: could not convert Unicode characters. (23 :: 46)
I have yet to find an answer that works to resolve this problem. I'm using CS6 on an HP Z220 on Windows 7.
    Thanks in advance.

So I solved the problem. A little history for this situation: I created a new AE project and while attempting to import a file received the error message:  After Effects error: could not convert Unicode characters. (23 :: 46)
I then tried to import a Vanishing Point which broken the spell on the error message and allowed the menu to select a vanishing point to appear. I closed out of that and was then able to import files.
